The constant-roll inflation is studied where the inflaton is taken as a tachyon field. Since in this approach the second slow-roll parameter is assumed to be of order one instead of being small, then the perturbation parameters will be considered again. The results are compared with observational data, and it is confirmed that the model could stand as a proper candidate for inflation.
In this paper, we consider a model of tachyon with a non-minimal coupling to gravity and study its cosmological effects. Regarding inflation we will show that for a specific coupling of tachyon to gravity this model satisfies observations and solves various problems which exist in the single and multi tachyon inflation models.
We compare the standard single scalar field inflationary predictions with those of an inflationary phase driven by a tachyon field. A slow-roll formalism is defined for tachyon inflation and we derive the spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations as well as the consistency relations. At lowest order the predictions of standard and tachyon inflation are the same. Higher order deviations are present and their observational relevance is discussed. We discuss the observational consequences of some typical inflationary tachyon potentials and compare them with recent data. All the models predict a …
In this paper we study the tachyonic inflation in brane world cosmology with Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk. We obtain the exact solution of slow roll equations in case of exponential potential. We attempt to implement the proposal of Lidsey and Nunes, astro-ph/0303168, for the tachyon condensate rolling on the Gauss-Bonnet brane and discuss the difficulties associated with the proposal.
The model of inflation with a single tachyon field generates larger anisotropy and has difficulties in describing the formation of the Universe . In this paper we consider a model with multi tachyon fields and study the assisted inflationary solution. Our results show that this model satisfies the observation.
We consider non-tachyonic hybrid inflation in the context of the braneworld cosmology. When one considers models for brane inflation, hybrid inflation is a natural consequence of the tachyon condensation if it appears at the end of inflation. In this case, however, reheating is a difficult problem due to the peculiar properties of the tachyon. In this paper we show some models for brane inflation where a new type of hybrid inflation is realized due to the localized matter fields. The obvious advantage of our scenario is successful reheating, which is due to the potential that is localized on t…
In a previous work we showed that large nongaussianities and nonscale-invariant distortions in the CMB power spectrum can be generated in hybrid inflation models, due to the contributions of the tachyon (waterfall) field to the second order curvature perturbation. Here we clarify, correct, and extend those results. We show that large nongaussianity occurs only when the tachyon remains light throughout inflation, whereas n=4 contamination to the spectrum is the dominant effect when the tachyon is heavy. We find constraints on the parameters of warped-throat brane-antibrane inflation from nongau…
We consider cosmological consequences of string theory tachyon condensation. We show that it is very difficult to obtain inflation in the simplest versions of this theory. Typically, inflation in these theories could occur only at super-Planckian densities, where the effective 4D field theory is inapplicable. Reheating and creation of matter in models where the tachyon potential V(T) has a minimum at infinitely large T is problematic because the tachyon field in such theories does not oscillate. If the universe after inflation is dominated by the energy density of the tachyon condensate, it wi…
The tachyonic inflationary universe model in the context of intermediate inflation is studied. General conditions for this model to be realizable are discussed. In the slow-roll approximation, we describe in great details the characteristics of this model.
Motivated by recent works of Sen and Gibbons, we study the evolution of a flat and homogeneous universe dominated by tachyon matter. In particular, we analyse the necessary conditions for inflation in the early roll of a single tachyon field.
We show two analytical solutions of the tachyon inflation for which the spectrum of curvature (density) perturbations can be calculated exactly to linear order, ignoring both gravity and the self-interactions of the tachyon field . The main feature of these solutions is that the spectral indices are independent with scale.
We consider cosmological inflation driven by the rolling tachyon in the context of the braneworld scenario. We show that sufficient inflation consistent with the observational constraints can be achieved for well defined upper limits on the five-dimensional mass scale, string mass scale and the string coupling for the bosonic string.
Tachyonic inflationary universe model in the context of a Chaplygin gas equation of state is studied. General conditions for this model to be realizable are discussed. By using an effective exponential potential we describe in great details the characteristic of the inflationary universe model. The parameters of the model are restricted by using recent astronomical observations.
We study the motion of a BPS D3-brane in the NS5-brane ring background. The radion field becomes tachyonic in this geometrical set up. We investigate the potential of this geometrical tachyon in the cosmological scenario for inflation as well as dark energy. We evaluate the spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations generated during tachyon inflation and show that this model is compatible with recent observations of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) due to an extra freedom of the number of NS5-branes. It is not possible to explain the origin of both inflation and dark energy by using a single …
Brane cosmology driven by the tachyon rolling down to its ground state is investigated. We adopt an effective field theoretical description for the tachyon and Randall-Sundrum type brane world scenario. After formulating basic equations, we show that the standard cosmology with a usual scalar field can mimic the low energy behavior of the system near the tachyon ground state. We also investigate qualitative behavior of the system beyond the low energy regime for positive, negative and vanishing 4-dimensional effective cosmological constant $Λ_4=κ_5^4V(T_0)^2/12-|Λ_5|/2$, where $κ_5$ and $Λ_5$ …
In this paper we propose a new mechanism of inflating the Universe with non-BPS $D4$ branes which decay into stable $D3$ branes via tachyon condensation. In a single brane scenario the tachyon potential is very steep and unable to support inflation. However if the universe lives in a stack of branes produced by a set of non-interacting unstable $\tilde {D4}$ branes, then the associated set of tachyons may drive inflation along our 3 spatial dimensions. After tachyon condensation the Universe is imagined to be filled with a set of parallel stable $D3$ branes. We study the scalar density perturb…
With the help of the tachyonic trapping mechanism one can potentially solve a number of problems affecting quintessential inflation models. In this mechanism we introduce a trapping field with a spontaneous symmetry breaking potential. When the quintessential inflaton passes the critical point, a sudden burst of particle production is able to reheat the Universe and trap the inflaton away from theminimum of its potential. However, self-interactions of the trapping field suppress particle production and reduce the efficiency of this process. We develop a method to compute the magnitude of the s…
Plateau inflation is an experimentally consistent framework in which the scale of inflation can be kept relatively low. Close to the edge of the plateau, scalar perturbations are subject to a strong tachyonic instability. Tachyonic preheating is realized when, after inflation, the oscillating inflaton repeatedly re-enters the plateau. We develop the analytic theory of this process and expand the linear approach by including backreaction between the coherent background and growing perturbations. For a family of plateau models, the analytic predictions are confronted with numerical estimates. Ou…
We study the tachyon inflation in the presence of the superpotential as an inflationary potential. We study the primordial perturbations and their non-gaussian feature in the equilateral configuration. We use the Planck2018 TT, TE, EE+lowE+lensing+BK14+BAO joint data at $68\%$ CL and $95\%$ CL, to perform numerical analysis on the scalar perturbations and seek for the observational viability of the tachyon inflation with superpotential. We also check the observational viability of the model by studying the tensor part of the perturbations and comparing the results with Planck2018 TT, TE, EE+lo…
Tachyon-Brane inflationary universe model in the context of a Chaplygin gas equation of state is studied. General conditions for this model to be realizable are discussed. In the high-energy limit and by using an exponential potential we describe in great details the characteristic of this model. Recent observational data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe experiment are employed to restrict the parameters of the model.
We consider the mimetic tachyon model in the Lagrange multiplier approach. We study both the linear and non-linear perturbations and find the perturbation and non-gaussianity parameters in this setup. By adopting two types of the scale factor as the power-law ($a=a_{0}\,t^{n}$) and intermediate ($a=a_{0}\exp(bt^β)$) scale factors, we perform a numerical analysis on the model which is based on Planck2018 TT, TE, EE+lowE+lensing +BAO +BK14 and Planck2018 TTT, EEE, TTE and EET data sets. We show that the mimetic tachyon model with both the power-law and intermediate scale factors, in some ranges …
Warm inflationary universe models in a tachyon field theory are studied. General conditions required for these models to be realizable are derived and discussed. We describe scalar perturbations (in the longitudinal gauge) and tensor perturbations for these scenarios. We develop our models for a constant dissipation parameter $Γ$ in one case and one dependent on $ϕ$ in the other case. We have been successful in describing such of inflationary universe models. We use recent astronomical observations for constraining the parameters appearing in our model. Also, our results are compared with thei…
Tachyon inflation is one of the most attractive models of noncannonical inflation motivated by string theory. In this work we revisit the constraints on tachyon inflation with inverse $\cosh$ potential and exponential potential considering reheating, Although the phase of reheating is not well understood, it can be parameterized in terms of reheating temperature $T_{re}$, number of e-folds during reheating $N_{re}$ and effective equation of state during reheating $w_{re}$, which can be related to the parameters of the tachyon potential, spectral index $n_s$ and tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$. For …
We present a general slow-roll formalism within braneworld-motivated cosmologies with non-standard effective Friedmann equations. Full towers of parameters involving either the inflaton potential or the Hubble parameter are constructed and the dynamics of non-tachyonic and tachyonic fields are considered in detail; exact cosmological solutions and the inflationary attractor condition are provided. We compare scalar-driven and tachyon-driven accelerating eras through slow-roll correspondence and the observational imprint on early-universe structures.
We show that in hybrid inflation it is possible to generate large second-order perturbations in the cosmic microwave background due to the instability of the tachyonic field during preheating. We carefully calculate this effect from the tachyon contribution to the gauge-invariant curvature perturbation, clarifying some confusion in the literature concerning nonlocal terms in the tachyon curvature perturbation; we show explicitly that such terms are absent. We quantitatively compute the nongaussianity generated by the tachyon field during the preheating phase and translate the experimental cons…
We study preheating in the Palatini formalism with a quadratic inflaton potential and an added $αR^2$ term. In such models, the oscillating inflaton field repeatedly returns to the plateau of the Einstein frame potential, on which the tachyonic instability fragments the inflaton condensate within less than an e-fold. We find that tachyonic preheating takes place when $α\gtrsim 10^{13}$ and that the energy density of the fragmented field grows with the rate $Γ/H \approx 0.011 \times α^{0.31}$. The model extends the family of plateau models with similar preheating behaviour. Although it contains…
We study the instability of a scalar field at the end of hybrid inflation, using both analytical techniques and numerical simulations. We improve previous studies by taking the inflaton field fully into account, and show that the range of unstable modes depends sensitively on the velocity of the inflaton field, and thereby on the Hubble rate, at the end of inflation. If topological defects are formed, their number density is determined by the shortest unstable wavelength. Finally, we show that the oscillations of the inflaton field amplify the inhomogeneities in the energy density, leading to …
The running of the Higgs self coupling may lead to numerous phenomena in early universe cosmology. In this paper we introduce a scenario where the Higgs running induces turns in the trajectory passing a region with tachyonic mass, leading to a temporal tachyonic growth in the curvature power spectrum. This effect induced by the Higgs leaves phenomena in the form of primordial black holes and stochastic gravitational waves, where proposed GW observatories will be able to probe in the near future.
Within the framework of a novel functional method on the world-sheet of the string, we discuss simple but re-summed (in the Regge slope) inflationary scenarios in the context of closed Bosonic strings, living in four target-space dimensions, in the presence of non-trivial tachyon, dilaton and graviton cosmological backgrounds. The inflationary solutions are argued to guarantee the vanishing of the corresponding Weyl anomaly coefficients in a given world-sheet renormalization scheme, thereby ensuring conformal invariance of the corresponding sigma-model to all orders in the Regge slope. The key…
We study the stochastic background of gravitational waves produced from preheating in hybrid inflation models. We investigate different dynamical regimes of preheating in these models and we compute the resulting gravity wave spectra using analytical estimates and numerical simulations. We discuss the dependence of the gravity wave frequencies and amplitudes on the various potential parameters. We find that large regions of the parameter space leads to gravity waves that may be observable in upcoming interferometric experiments, including Advanced LIGO, but this generally requires very small c…
We present unified ways of handling the cosmological perturbations in a class of gravity theory covered by a general action in eq. (1). This gravity includes our previous generalized $f(ϕ,R)$ gravity and the gravity theory motivated by the tachyonic condensation. We present general prescription to derive the power spectra generated from vacuum quantum fluctuations in the slow-roll inflation era. An application is made to a slow-roll inflation based on the tachyonic condensation with an exponential potential.
