Classical conformal blocks naturally appear in the large central charge limit of 2D Virasoro conformal blocks. In the $AdS_{3}/CFT_{2}$ correspondence, they are related to classical bulk actions and are used to calculate entanglement entropy and geodesic lengths. In this work, we discuss the identification of classical conformal blocks and the Painlevé VI action showing how isomonodromic deformations naturally appear in this context. We recover the accessory parameter expansion of Heun's equation from the isomonodromic $τ$-function. We also discuss how the $c = 1$ expansion of the $τ$-function leads to a novel approach to calculate the 4-point classical conformal block.
Classical Virasoro conformal blocks are believed to be directly related to accessory parameters of Floquet type in the Heun equation and some of its confluent versions. We extend this relation to another class of accessory parameter functions that are defined by inverting all-order Bohr-Sommerfeld periods for confluent and biconfluent Heun equation. The relevant conformal blocks involve Nagoya irregular vertex operators of rank 1 and 2 and conjecturally correspond to partition functions of a 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$, $N_f=3$ gauge theory at strong coupling and an Argyres-Douglas theory.
The goal of this note is to show that the Riemann-Hilbert problem to find multivalued analytic functions with $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$-valued monodromy on Riemann surfaces of genus zero with $n$ punctures can be solved by taking suitable linear combinations of the conformal blocks of Liouville theory at $c=1$. This implies a similar representation for the isomonodromic tau-function. In the case $n=4$ we thereby get a proof of the relation between tau-functions and conformal blocks discovered in \cite{GIL}. We briefly discuss a possible application of our results to the study of relations between cer…
We study the solution of the Schlesinger system for the 4-point $\mathfrak{sl}_N$ isomonodromy problem and conjecture an expression for the isomonodromic $τ$-function in terms of 2d conformal field theory beyond the known $N=2$ Painlevé VI case. We show that this relation can be used as an alternative definition of conformal blocks for the $W_N$ algebra and argue that the infinite number of arbitrary constants arising in the algebraic construction of $W_N$ conformal block can be expressed in terms of only a finite set of parameters of the monodromy data of rank $N$ Fuchsian system with three r…
We consider the conformal blocks in the theories with extended conformal W-symmetry for the integer Virasoro central charges. We show that these blocks for the generalized twist fields on sphere can be computed exactly in terms of the free field theory on the covering Riemann surface, even for a non-abelian monodromy group. The generalized twist fields are identified with particular primary fields of the W-algebra, and we propose a straightforward way to compute their W-charges. We demonstrate how these exact conformal blocks can be effectively computed using the technique arisen from the gaug…
The leading classical asymptotics of Virasoro conformal blocks on the Riemann sphere with n generic and n-3 "heavy" degenerate field insertions can be described in terms of the geometry of Garnier system describing the monodromy preserving deformations of second order Fuchsian differential equations on an n-punctured sphere. This allows us to characterise the leading classical asymptotics of Virasoro conformal blocks completely, and to clarify in which sense conformal field theory represents a quantisation of the isomonodromic deformation problem.
Quasinormal modes are characteristic oscillatory modes that control the relaxation of a perturbed physical system back to its equilibrium state. In this work, we calculate QNM frequencies and angular eigenvalues of Kerr--de Sitter black holes using a novel method based on conformal field theory. The spin-field perturbation equations of this background spacetime essentially reduce to two Heun's equations, one for the radial part and one for the angular part. We use the accessory parameter expansion of Heun's equation, obtained via the isomonodromic $τ$-function, in order to find analytic expans…
We construct the general solution of a class of Fuchsian systems of rank $N$ as well as the associated isomonodromic tau functions in terms of semi-degenerate conformal blocks of $W_N$-algebra with central charge $c=N-1$. The simplest example is given by the tau function of the Fuji-Suzuki-Tsuda system, expressed as a Fourier transform of the 4-point conformal block with respect to intermediate weight. Along the way, we generalize the result of Bowcock and Watts on the minimal set of matrix elements of vertex operators of the $W_N$-algebra for generic central charge and prove several propertie…
In this work the correspondence between the semiclassical limit of the DOZZ quantum Liouville theory on the torus and the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of the N=2* (Omega-deformed) U(2) super-Yang-Mills theory is used to propose new formulae for the accessory parameter of the Lame equation. This quantity is in particular crucial for solving the problem of uniformization of the one-punctured torus. The computation of the accessory parameters for torus and sphere is an open longstanding problem which can however be solved if one succeeds to derive an expression for the so-called classical Liouville…
By applying an hyperbolic deformation to the uniformization problem for the infinite strip, we give a method for computing the accessory parameter for the torus with one source as an expansion in the modular parameter q. At O(q^0) we obtain the same equation for the accessory parameter and the same value of the semiclassical action as the one obtained from the b -> 0 limit of the quantum one point function. The procedure can be carried over to the full O(q^2) or even higher order corrections although the procedure becomes somewhat complicated. Here we compute to order q^2 the correction to the…
The Seiberg-Witten solution of N=2 supersymmetric SU(2) gauge theories with matter is analysed as an isomonodromy problem. We show that the holomorphic section describing the effective action can be deformed by moving its singularities on the moduli space while keeping their monodromies invariant. Well-known examples of isomonodromic sections are given by the correlators of two-dimensional rational conformal field theories -- the conformal blocks. The Seiberg-Witten section similarly admits the operations of braiding and fusing of its singularities, which obey the Yang-Baxter and Pentagonal id…
We prove a relation between the asymptotic behavior of the conformal factor and the accessory parameters of the SU(1,1) Riemann- Hilbert problem. Such a relation shows the hamiltonian nature of the dynamics of N particles coupled to 2+1 dimensional gravity. A generalization of such a result is used to prove a connection between the regularized Liouville action and the accessory parameters in presence of general elliptic singularities. This relation had been conjectured by Polyakov in connection with 2-dimensional quantum gravity. An alternative proof, which works also in presence of parabolic …
We give an implicit equation for the accessory parameter on the torus which is the necessary and sufficient condition to obtain the monodromy of the conformal factor. It is shown that the perturbative series for the accessory parameter in the coupling constant converges in a finite disk and give a rigorous lower bound for the radius of convergence. We work out explicitly the perturbative result to second order in the coupling for the accessory parameter and to third order for the one-point function. Modular invariance is discussed and exploited. At the non perturbative level it is shown that t…
We derive Fredholm determinant representation for isomonodromic tau functions of Fuchsian systems with $n$ regular singular points on the Riemann sphere and generic monodromy in $\mathrm{GL}(N,\mathbb C)$. The corresponding operator acts in the direct sum of $N(n-3)$ copies of $L^2(S^1)$. Its kernel has a block integrable form and is expressed in terms of fundamental solutions of $n-2$ elementary 3-point Fuchsian systems whose monodromy is determined by monodromy of the relevant $n$-point system via a decomposition of the punctured sphere into pairs of pants. For $N=2$ these building blocks ha…
We study the semiclassical holographic correspondence between 2d CFT n-point conformal blocks and massive particle configurations in the asymptotically AdS3 space. On the boundary we use the heavy-light approximation in which case two of primary operators are the background for the other (n-2) operators considered as fluctuations. In the bulk the particle dynamics can be reduced to the hyperbolic time slice. Although lacking exact solutions we nevertheless show that for any n the classical n-point conformal block is equal to the length of the dual geodesic network connecting n-3 cubic vertices…
We consider the moduli space of holomorphic principal bundles for reductive Lie groups over Riemann surfaces (possibly with boundaries) and equipped with meromorphic connections. We associate to this space a point-wise notion of quantum spectral curve whose generalized periods define a new set of moduli. We define homology cycles and differential forms of the quantum spectral curve, allowing to derive quantum analogs of the form-cycle duality and Riemann bilinear identities of classical geometry. A tau-function is introduced for this system in the form of a theta-series and in such a way that …
We consider the monodromy problem for the four-punctured sphere in which the character of one composite monodromy is fixed, by looking at the expansion of the accessory parameter in the modulus $x$ directly, without taking the limit of the quantum conformal blocks for infinite central charge. The integrals which appear in the expansion of the Volterra equation, involve products of two hypergeometric functions to first order and up to four hypergeometric functions to second order. It is shown that all such integrals can be computed analytically. We give the complete analytical evaluation of the…
A recently formulated conjecture of Gamayun, Iorgov and Lisovyy gives an asymptotic expansion of the Jimbo--Miwa--Ueno isomonodromic $τ$-function for certain Painlevé transcendents. The coefficients in this expansion are given in terms of conformal blocks of a two-dimensional conformal field theory, which can be written as infinite sums over pairs of partitions. In this note a discrete matrix model is proposed on a lattice whose partition function can be used to obtain a multiple integral representation for the length restricted partial sums of the Painlevé conformal blocks. This leads to expr…
Quasinormal modes of usual, four dimensional, Kerr black holes are described by certain solutions of a confluent Heun differential equation. In this work, we express these solutions in terms of the connection matrices for a Riemann-Hilbert problem, which was recently solved in terms of the Painlevé V transcendent. We use this formulation to generate the small-frequency expansion for the angular spheroidal harmonic eigenvalue, and derive conditions on the monodromy properties for the radial modes. Using exponentiation, we relate the accessory parameter to a semi-classical conformal description …
The so-called Poghossian identities connecting the toric and spherical blocks, the AGT relation on the torus and the Nekrasov-Shatashvili formula for the elliptic Calogero-Moser Yang's (eCMY) functional are used to derive certain expressions for the classical 4-point block on the sphere. The main motivation for this line of research is the longstanding open problem of uniformization of the 4-punctured Riemann sphere, where the 4-point classical block plays a crucial role. It is found that the obtained representation for certain 4-point classical blocks implies the relation between the accessor…
It is known that the classical limit of the second order BPZ null vector decoupling equation for the simplest two 5-point degenerate spherical conformal blocks yields: (i) the normal form of the Heun equation with the complex accessory parameter determined by the 4-point classical block on the sphere, and (ii) a pair of the Floquet type linearly independent solutions. A key point in a derivation of the above result is the classical asymptotic of the 5-point degenerate blocks in which the so-called heavy and light contributions decouple. In the present work the semi-classical heavy-light factor…
