We propose a novel projection-based particle method for solving the McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations. Our approach is based on a projection-type estimation of the marginal density of the solution in each time step. The projection-based particle method leads in many situation to a significant reduction of numerical complexity compared to the widely used kernel density estimation algorithms. We derive strong convergence rates and rates of density estimation. The convergence analysis in the case of linearly growing coefficients turns out to be rather challenging and requires some new type of averaging technique. This case is exemplified by explicit solutions to a class of McKean-Vlasov equations with affine drift. The performance of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by several numerical examples.
In the literatur there exist approximation methods for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations which have a computational effort of order $3$. In this article we introduce full-history recursive multilevel Picard (MLP) approximations for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations. We prove that these MLP approximations have computational effort of order $2+$ which is essentially optimal in high dimensions.
In this paper, we present a generic methodology for the efficient numerical approximation of the density function of the McKean-Vlasov SDEs. The weak error analysis for the projected process motivates us to combine the iterative Multilevel Monte Carlo method for McKean-Vlasov SDEs \cite{szpruch2019} with non-interacting kernels and projection estimation of particle densities \cite{belomestny2018projected}. By exploiting smoothness of the coefficients for McKean-Vlasov SDEs, in the best case scenario (i.e $C^{\infty}$ for the coefficients), we obtain the complexity of order $O(ε^{-2}|\logε|^4)$…
In this paper, we establish the theory of chaos propagation and propose an Euler-Maruyama scheme for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst exponent $H \in (0,1)$. Meanwhile, upper bounds for errors in the Euler method is obtained. A numerical example is demonstrated to verify the theoretical results.
In this paper, we derive fully implementable first order time-stepping schemes for McKean--Vlasov stochastic differential equations (McKean--Vlasov SDEs), allowing for a drift term with super-linear growth in the state component. We propose Milstein schemes for a time-discretised interacting particle system associated with the McKean--Vlasov equation and prove strong convergence of order 1 and moment stability, taming the drift if only a one-sided Lipschitz condition holds. To derive our main results on strong convergence rates, we make use of calculus on the space of probability measures with…
In this paper, we first establish well-posedness of McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (McKean-Vlasov SDEs) with common noise, possibly with coefficients having super-linear growth in the state variable. Second, we present stable time-stepping schemes for this class of McKean-Vlasov SDEs. Specifically, we propose an explicit tamed Euler and tamed Milstein scheme for an interacting particle system associated with the McKean-Vlasov equation. We prove stability and strong convergence of order $1/2$ and $1$, respectively. To obtain our main results, we employ techniques from calculus …
On the infinite time horizon approximation for Lévy-driven McKean-Vlasov SDEs with non-globally Lipschitz continuous and super-linearly growth drift and diffusion coefficients
We present an implicit Split-Step explicit Euler type Method (dubbed SSM) for the simulation of McKean-Vlasov Stochastic Differential Equations (MV-SDEs) with drifts of superlinear growth in space, Lipschitz in measure and non-constant Lipschitz diffusion coefficient. The scheme is designed to leverage the structure induced by the interacting particle approximation system, including parallel implementation and the solvability of the implicit equation. The scheme attains the classical $1/2$ root mean square error (rMSE) convergence rate in stepsize and closes the gap left by [18, "Simulation of…
In this paper, we introduce adaptive Euler-Maruyama schemes for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (SDEs) assuming only a standard monotonicity condition on the drift and diffusion coefficients but no global Lipschitz continuity in the state variable for either, while global Lipschitz continuity is required for the measure component only. We prove moment stability of the discretised processes and a strong convergence rate of $1/2$. Several numerical examples, centred around a mean-field model for FitzHugh-Nagumo neurons, illustrate that the standard uniform scheme fails and that t…
We prove the well-posedness of solutions to McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations driven by Lévy noise under mild assumptions where, in particular, the Lévy measure is not required to be finite. The drift, diffusion and jump coefficients are allowed to be random, can grow super-linearly in the state variable, and all may depend on the marginal law of the solution process. We provide a propagation of chaos result under more relaxed conditions than those existing in the literature, and consistent with our well-posedness result. We propose a tamed Euler scheme for the associated interac…
