We suggest that the forward-backward asymmetry $(A_{FB})$ of the charged lepton in $gg\to H\toγZ\toγ\ell^-\ell^+$ process could be used to probe the CP violating $HγZ$ coupling when the interference from $gg\toγZ\toγ\ell^-\ell^+$ process is included. With CP violation in $HγZ$ coupling, the interference effect leads to a non-vanishing $A_{FB}$, which is also sensitive to the strong phase differences. The resonant and non-resonant strong phases together make $A_{FB}(\hat{s})$ change sign around Higgs mass $M_H$. For phenomenology study, we suggest the integral over one-side mass region below $M_H$ to magnify the $A_{FB}$ strength.
I reconsider the forward-backward asymmetry for flavoured quarks in electron-positron annihilation. I suggest an infrared-safe definition of this observable, such that the asymmetry may be computed in perturbative QCD with massless quarks. With this definition, the first and second order QCD corrections are computed.
The Forward-backward asymmetry in the angular distribution of $e^+e^-$ is studied in the process $B\to e^+e^- and \bar{B}\to \bar{X}_d e^+e^-$ . The possibility of observing CP violation through the asymmetries in these two processes is examined.
We computed the bottom-quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron in the Standard Model and for several new physics scenarios. Near the $Z$-pole, the SM bottom asymmetry is dominated by tree level exchanges of electroweak gauge bosons. While above the $Z$-pole, next-to-leading order QCD dominates the SM asymmetry as was the case with the top quark forward-backward asymmetry. Light new physics, $M_{NP} \precsim 150$ GeV, can cause significant deviations from the SM prediction for the bottom asymmetry. The bottom asymmetry can be used to distinguish between competing NP explanations of the…
Using the most general effective Hamiltonian comprising scalar, vector and tensor type interactions, we have written the branching ratio, the forward-backward (FB) asymmetry and the normalized FB asymmetry as functions of the new Wilson coefficients. It is found that the branching ratio depends on all new coefficients, but the dependence of asymmetries on coefficients could be analyzed only for one Wilson coefficient.
We study the effects of the complete supersymmetric QCD and electroweak one-loop corrections to the ttbar forward-backward asymmetry at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We work in the complex Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), only restricted by the condition of minimal flavor violation (MFV). We perform a comprehensive scan over the relevant parameter space of the complex MFV-MSSM and determine the maximal possible contributions of these MSSM loop corrections to the forward-backward asymmetry in the ttbar center-of-mass frame.
We calculate the second-order QCD corrections to the forward-backward asymmetry in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. Using the quark axis definition, we do not agree with either existing calculation, but the difference relative to one of them is small and understood. In particular, we point out that the forward-backward asymmetry of massive quarks is enhanced by logarithms of the quark mass. This implies that the forward-backward asymmetry of massless quarks is not computable in QCD perturbation theory and affected by non-power-suppressed corrections coming from the non-perturbative fragmentation functio…
A model-independent method of studying the forward-backward correlations in symmetric high energy processes is developed. The method allows a systematic study of properties of various particle sources and to uncover asymmetric structures hidden in symmetric hadron-hadron and nucleus-nucleus inelastic reactions.
We study long-distance effects in rare exclusive semileptonic decays B -> K_{1}ell ^{+}ell ^{-}, K_{1} is the axial vector meson. The form factors, describing the meson transition amplitudes of the effective Hamiltonian, are calculated using Ward identites which are then used to calculate branching ratio and forward-backward asymmetry in these decay modes. The zero of forward-backward asymmetry is of special interest and provide us the precission test of Standard model.
Forward-backward charge asymmetry in rare dilepton $B$-decays is formulated with the assumption of an on-shell b-quark. We find the asymmetry is expressed in terms of two spatially transverse helicity amplitudes, which are determined by combining the data of $D\rightarrow K^*(892)\; l^+ ν$ with heavy flavour symmetry. We estimate the charge asymmetry of $B\rightarrow K^*(892)\; l^+ l^-$ for large energy leptons against various top masses in the standard model.
We present an analysis of the forward-backward asymmetry in the production of top quark pairs at the Tevatron collider. We use novel Monte Carlo methods for merging matrix elements and parton showers to combine NLO QCD predictions for tt and tt+jet production. Theoretical uncertainties are quantified in detail. We find agreement with experimental data on the transverse momentum dependence of the asymmetry.
In this paper, forward-backward asymmetry and differential cross section of top quark in flavor violating $Z'$ model up to $\mathscr{O}(α_s^2 α_X)$ at Tevatron are calculated. In order to account for the top observed large forward-backward asymmetry, the new coupling $g_X$ among $Z'$ and quarks will be not much less than strong coupling constant $g_s$. After including the new higher order correction, the differential cross section can fit the data better than those only including the leading contributions from $Z'$, while the forward-backward asymmetry is still in agreement with the measuremen…
We have recently calculated the second-order QCD corrections to the forward-backward asymmetry in e+e- annihilation (hep-ph/9905424). Here we recall the results and compare them to others in the literature.
The recent forward-backward asymmetry recorded by the CDF Collaboration for the top and anti-top quark pair production indicates more than $2σ$ deviation from the Standard Model prediction, while its total production cross section remains consistent. We propose a $W'$ boson that couples to down and top quarks. We identify the parameter space that can give rise a large enough forward-backward asymmetry without producing too many top and anti-top quark pairs. Other models presented erstwhile in the literature that can produce such effects are also discussed.
We study the impact of the inclusion of Neutral Current (NC) DY data from LHC mapped in the Forward-Backward Asymmetry ($A_{\rm FB}$) observable on PDF uncertainties, using the open source platform \texttt{xFitter}. We find that $A_{\rm FB}$ enables new PDF sensitivity at current and future luminosity stages of LHC.
Forward-backward (charge) asymmetry in the processes of $e^+e^-$ annihilation into a pair of charged pseudoscalar mesons is recalculated in the one-loop approximation. The exact dependence on the meson masses is taken into account. Results known in the literature are partially corrected. The bulk of the charge asymmetry appears due to double-photon exchange in $s$ channel. Experimental studies of the asymmetry can be used to verify the point-like approximation used in calculation of radiative corrections due to emission of photons by pions or kaons.
The impact of the electroweak radiative corrections on the value of the forward-backward asymmetry in e^+ e^- annihilation into a quark-antiquark pair is considered in the double-logarithmic approximation at energies much higher than the masses of the weak bosons.
Decay rate, forward-backward asymmetry and polarization asymmetries of final state leptons in B-> K_{1}tau ^{+}tau ^{-}, where K_{1} is the axial vector meson, are calculated in Standard Model and in the universal extra dimension (UED) model. The sensitivity of the observables on the compactification radius $R$, the only unknown paramter in UED model, is studied. Finally, the helicity fractions of the final state K_{1} are calculated and their dependence on the compactification radius is discussed. This analysis of helicity fraction is briefly extended to B->K^{*}l ^{+}l ^{-}(l =e,mu) and comp…
We investigate the impact of high-statistics Drell-Yan (DY) measurements at the LHC on the study of non-perturbative QCD effects from parton distribution functions (PDF). We present the results of a PDF profiling analysis based on the neutral-current DY forward-backward asymmetry, using the open source fit platform xFitter.
We point out that QCD coherence effects can help to identify the colour structure of possible new physics contributions to the anomalously large forward-backward asymmetry in top quark pair production. New physics models that yield the same inclusive asymmetry make different predictions for its dependence on the transverse momentum of the pair, if they have different colour structures. From both a fixed-order effective field theory approach and Monte Carlo studies of specific models, we find that an s-channel octet structure is preferred.
The forward-backward asymmetry is an important measurable quantity which can enable independent determination of the neutral-current couplings of fermions. In this paper, we extend the definition of the asymmetry from the partonic level to the hadronic level by calculating this asymmetry of the hadron pair in the semi-inclusive electron position annihilation process. Semi-inclusive implies that a back-to-back jet is also measured in addition to the hadron pair. Due to the limitation of the factorization theorem, we calculate this process up to leading order twist-4 level by applying the collin…
I discuss one-loop QCD corrections to the forward backward asymmetry of the b-quark at LEP in a way appropriate to the present experimental procedure. I try to give insight into the structure of the corrections and elucidate some questions which have been raised by experimental experts. Furthermore, I complete and comment on results given in the literature.
The measured forward-backward asymmetry in top pair events at the Fermilab Tevatron collider deviates significantly from the standard model expectation. Several models have been proposed to describe the observed asymmetry which grows with the rapidity difference of the top pairs and also with the $t\bar{t}$ invariant mass. The presence of a heavy charged gauge boson $W'$ with the coupling $W'-t-d$ (left-handed, right-handed, and a mixture of left and right-handed couplings) could generate the desired top forward-backward asymmetry keeping the top pair cross section consistent with the standard…
Starting with the most general effective Hamiltonian comprising scalar and vector operators beyond the standard model, we discuss the impact of various operators on the zero of the forward--backward asymmetry in the dileptonic B decay B -> K^\ast μ^+ μ^-. We find that, zero of the asymmetry is highly sensitive to the sign and size of the vector--vector operators and opposite chirality counterparts of the usual operators. The scalar--scalar four--fermion operators, on the other hand, have mild effect on the zero of the asymmetry. Our results are expected to be checked in the near future experim…
We calculate the forward backward asymmetry of the top-pair production at TEVATRON up to next to leading order (NLO) in the little Higgs model (LHM). We find that the contribution of $Z_H$ can be large enough to make up the gap between standard model (SM) prediction and data. With the database of $7.65\pm0.20\pm0.36$ pb, therefore, the parameter space for flavor-changing coupling of $Z_H$ is constrained. Thus this model can result in the required asymmetry while the total cross section of top-pair production remaining consistent with data.
In the quasi-inert Higgs doublet model, we study the LHC diphoton rate for a standard model-like Higgs boson and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron. Taking into account the constraints from the vacuum stability, unitarity, electroweak precision tests, flavor physics and the related experimental data of top quark, we find that compared with the standard model prediction, the diphoton rate of Higgs boson at LHC can be enhanced due to the light charged Higgs contributions, while the measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron can be explained to within $1…
We find that the tree-level predictions of the forward-backward production asymmetries on the Z resonance for b and c quarks, A_FB, in an SO(5) x U(1) gauge-Higgs unification model are markedly close to the central values of the Particle Data Group data unlike the standard model. The decay width of Z boson is evaluated and the S and T parameters are discussed.
We make use of recent results in effective theory and higher-order perturbative calculations to improve the theoretical predictions of the QCD contribution to the top-quark pair production forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron. In particular, we supplement the fixed-order NLO calculation with higher-order corrections from soft gluon resummation at NNLL accuracy performed in two different kinematic schemes, which allows us to make improved predictions for the asymmetry in the $p\bar p$ and $t\bar t$ rest frames as a function of the rapidity and invariant mass of the $t\bar t$ pair. Further…
I calculate the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron in both the laboratory frame and the $t{\bar t}$ rest frame. I show that soft-gluon corrections are the dominant contribution to the asymmetry and closely approximate exact results through next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). I present a calculation of the asymmetry including approximate next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order (N$^3$LO) soft-gluon contributions from next-to-next-to-leading-logarithm (NNLL) resummation as well as electroweak corrections. Thus approximate N$^3$LO (aN$^3$LO) results are obtained, which significan…
Measurements of the forward-backward asymmetry in neutral-current Drell-Yan di-lepton production have primarily been used for determinations of the weak mixing angle $θ_W$. We observe that, unlike the case of Run-I of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC Run-I), for the first time at the LHC Run-II the reconstructed forward-backward asymmetry has the capability of placing useful constraints on the determination of the parton distribution functions (PDFs). By examining the statistical and the PDF uncertainties on the reconstructed forward-backward asymmetry, we investigate its potential for disentang…
We propose a simple model where dark matter (DM) carries top flavor and couples to the Standard Model through the top quark within a framework of minimal flavor violation (MFV). Top-flavored DM can explain the anomalous top forward-backward asymmetry observed at the Tevatron, while remaining consistent with other top observables at colliders. By virtue of its large coupling to top, DM acquires a sizable loop coupling to the Z boson, and the relic density is set by annihilation through the Z. We also discuss contraints from current direct detection searches, emphasizing the role of spin-depende…
An influence of the anomalous Wtb coupling on forward-backward asymmetry of top quark pair production at the Tevatron is investigated taking into account decays of the top quarks to 6 fermion final states containing one charged lepton. To this end the most general effective Lagrangian of the Wtb interaction containing terms of dimension up to five is implemented into 'carlomat', a general purpose Monte Carlo program, which allows to compute automatically all necessary cross sections in the presence of anomalous vector and tensor form factors. A sample of results which illustrate little effect …
The CDF and LHCb experiments have recently provided two intriguing hints for new physics: a large forward-backward asymmetry in $t\bar t$ production, and a direct CP asymmetry in D decays of order a percent. In both cases, flavor non-universal interactions are required in the up sector, raising the possibility that the two effects come from one and the same new physics source. We show that a minimal model, with an extra scalar doublet, previously suggested to explain the top data, gives -- without any modifications or additions -- a contribution to CP violation in charm decays that is of the r…
The large forward-backward asymmetry of the top quark pair production measured by the hadron colliders shed light on new physics signals beyond the Standard Model. In the Randall-Sundrum model with an additional SU(3) group in the strong sector, we compare the total cross section and forward-backward asymmetry of the top quark pair production with the newest data obtained by the CDF and the D0 collaborations. Our numerical analysis shows that the parameter $c_q \gtrsim 0.5$, $c_t \sim -0.6\sim-0.8$, $\tanϕ\gtrsim 20$ or $\tanϕ\leq 1/20$ and the first excitation of axial gluon with a mass about…
The Higgs-boson decay h -> gamma l+ l- for various lepton states l = (e, mu, tau) is analyzed. The differential decay width and forward-backward asymmetry are calculated as functions of the dilepton invariant mass in a model where the Higgs boson interacts with leptons and quarks via a mixture of scalar and pseudoscalar couplings. These couplings are partly constrained from data on the decays to leptons, h -> l+ l-, and quarks h -> q \bar{q} (where q = (c, b)), while the Higgs couplings to the top quark are chosen from the two-photon and two-gluon decay rates. Nonzero values of the forward-bac…
Having taken the QED radiative correction and one-loop weak corrections into account, we have computed the unpolarized forward-backward asymmetry in the process $e^+e^- -> μ^+μ^-$ at a very reasonable accuracy. Special attention to the effects around the LEP 200 energy, induced by the possible $Z'$ boson of the left-right symmetric model $SU(2)_{L} \times SU(2)_{R} \times U(1)_{B-L}$, is paid. The numerical results of the directly measurable asymmetry $A_{FB}^μ$ versus the CMS energies are presented in figures. One may be convinced by the results that precise measurements on the asymmetry in f…
We consider how the measurement of top polarization at the Tevatron can be used to characterise and discriminate among different new physics models that have been suggested to explain the anomalous top forward-backward asymmetry reported at the Tevatron. This has the advantage of catching the essence of the parity violating effect characteristic to the different suggested new physics models. Other observables constructed from these asymmetries are shown to be useful in discriminating between the models, even after taking into account the statistical errors. Finally, we discuss some signals at …
Anomalous CP-odd W+W-Z couplings can give rise to a forward-backward asymmetry in the Z angular distribution in the e+e- centre-of-mass frame in the process e+e- -> nu nubar Z. Of the three CP-odd couplings possible, only the imaginary part of one of the couplings, f_4^Z, which is C odd and P even, contributes to the forward-backward asymmetry. It is found that a limit of the order of 0.1 can be placed on this coupling at a Next Linear Collider with centre-of-mass energy of 500 GeV and integrated luminosity of 50 fb^{-1}.
At the LHC, top quark pairs are dominantly produced from gluons, making it difficult to measure the top quark forward-backward asymmetry. To improve the asymmetry measurement, we study variables that can distinguish between top quarks produced from quarks and those from gluons: the invariant mass of the top pair, the rapidity of the top-antitop system in the lab frame, the rapidity of the top quark in the top-antitop rest frame, the top quark polarization and the top-antitop spin correlation. We combine all the variables in a likelihood discriminant method to separate quark-initiated events fr…
We study the branching ratio, CP-violating asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry and the CP-violating asymmetry in the forward-backward asymmetry for the exclusive decay B--> K l^+ l^-$ in the two Higgs doublet model with tree level flavor changing neutral currents (model III). We analyse the dependencies of these quantities on the neutral Higgs boson contributions and the CP parameter sinθin the model III. We observe that to determine the neutral Higgs boson effects, the measurements of the forward-backward asymmetry and the CP-violating asymmetry in the forward-backward asymmetry for the dec…
We show that the anomalously large top quark forward-backward asymmetry observed by CDF and DØ\, can naturally be accommodated in models with flavor-violating couplings of a new massive spin-2 state to quarks. Regardless of its origin, the lowest-order couplings of a spin-2 boson to fermions are analogous to the coupling of the graviton to energy/momentum, leading to strong sensitivity of the effects associated with its virtual exchange to the energy scales at hand. Precisely due to this fact, the observed dependence of the asymmetry on the $t\bar t$ invariant mass fits nicely into the propose…
We report the results of a new calculation of soft-gluon corrections in B -> X_s l^+ l^- decays. In particular, we present the first calculation of bremsstrahlung and corresponding virtual terms to the lepton forward-backward asymmetry, which allows us to systematically include all contributions to this observable beyond the lowest non-trivial order. The new terms are important, for instance the position of the zero of the asymmetry receives corrections of O(10%). Using a different method, we also provide an independent check of recently published results on bremsstrahlung and infrared virtual…
A large forward-backward asymmetry in $t\bar t$ production, for large invariant mass of the $t\bar t$ system, has been recently observed by the CDF collaboration. Among the scalar mediated mechanisms that can explain such a large asymmetry, only the t-channel exchange of a color-singlet weak-doublet scalar is consistent with both differential and integrated $t\bar t$ cross section measurements. Constraints from flavor changing processes dictate a very specific structure for the Yukawa couplings of such a new scalar. No sizable deviation in the differential or integrated $t\bar t$ production cr…
We discuss two dedicated observables in exclusive B -> K* l+ l- decay that can be used to study effects of physics beyond the standard model, namely the forward-backward asymmetry in the lepton spectrum and the isospin-asymmetry between decays of charged and neutral B mesons. We consider the region of large recoil-energy (i.e. small invariant mass of the lepton pair), and employ the QCD factorization approach to exclusive B meson decays. Sub-leading effects in the heavy quark mass expansion have been taken into account for the calculation of the isospin-asymmetry. We give predictions for decay…
In order to explain the Tevatron anomaly of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}^t$ in the left-right twin Higgs model, we choose to give up the lightest neutral particle of $\hat{h}$ field as a stable dark matter candidate. Then a new Yukawa interaction for $\hat{h}$ is allowed, which can be free from the constraint of same-sign top pair production and contribute sizably to $A_{FB}^t$. Considering the constraints from the production rates of the top pair ($t\bar t$), the top decay rates and $t\bar{t}$ invariant mass distribution, we find that this model with such new Yukawa intera…
Non-perturbative QCD effects from Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) may be constrained by using high-statistics Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data. Drell-Yan (DY) measurements in the Charged Current (CC) case provide one of the primary means to do this, in the form of the lepton charge asymmetry. We investigate here the impact of measurements in Neutral Current (NC) DY data mapped onto the Forward-Backward Asymmetry ($A_{\rm FB}$) on PDF determinations, by using the open source fit platform {\tt{xFitter}}. We demonstrate the potential impact of $A_{\rm FB}$ data on PDF determinations and perf…
The sensitivity of the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry $\mathcal{A}_{FB}$ for the exclusive $B\rightarrow K_{1}(1270)μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay is examined by using most general non-standard 4-fermion interactions. Our analysis shows that the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry is very sensitive to the sign and size of the Wilson coefficients corresponding to the new vector type interactions, which are the counter partners of the usual Standard Model operators but have opposite chirality. In addition to these, the other significant effect comes from the interference of Scala…
The signals of the SO(5) \times U(1) gauge-Higgs unification model at the International Linear Collider are studied. In this model, Kaluza-Klein modes of the neutral gauge bosons affect fermion pair productions. The deviations of the forward-backward asymmetries of the $e^+e^-\to \bar{b}b$, $\bar{t}t$ processes from the standard model predictions are clearly seen by using polarised beams. The deviations of these values are predicted for two cases, the bulk mass parameters of quarks are positive and negative case.
I present a calculation of approximate N$^3$LO corrections from NNLL soft-gluon resummation for differential distributions in top-antitop pair production in hadronic collisions. Soft-gluon corrections are the dominant contribution to top-quark production and closely approximate exact results through NNLO. I show aN$^3$LO results for the total $t{\bar t}$ cross section, the top-quark $p_T$ and rapidity distributions, and the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry. The higher-order corrections are significant and they reduce theoretical uncertainties.
Very recently, it has been shown by other authors that the CDF measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry can be explained by means of a heavy and broad axigluon. In order to work, this mechanism needs that the axigluon coupling to the top quark must be different than the coupling to light quarks and both must be stronger than the one predicted in classical axigluon models. In this paper, we argue that this kind of axigluon can be accommodated in an extended chiral color model we proposed previously. Additionally, we show that the desired features can be derived from a simple four…
The CDF and D0 experiments have reported on the measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the result is that it is more than 2 standard deviations above the predicted value in the Standard Model. This has to be added to the longstanding anomaly in the forward-backward asymmetry for bottom quark production at LEP which is 3 standard deviations different from the Standard Model value. The discrepancy in the bottom asymmetry can be accounted for by the contributions of Kaluza-Klein excitations of electroweak gauge bosons at LEP in warped extra …
We revisit the possibility that the top quark forward-backward asymmetry arises from the on-shell production and decay of scalar top partners to top-antitop pairs with missing transverse energy. Although the asymmetry is produced by t-channel exchange of a light mediator, the model remains unconstrained by low energy atomic parity violation tests. An interesting connection to the active neutrino sector through a Type-I seesaw operator helps to evade stringent monojet constraints and opens up a richer collider phenomenology. After performing a global fit to top data from both the Tevatron and t…
We suggest that the forward-backward asymmetry $(A_{FB})$ of the charged leptons in $gg\to H\toγZ\toγ\ell^-\ell^+$ process could be used to probe the CP violating $HγZ$ coupling when the interference from $gg\toγZ\toγ\ell^-\ell^+$ process is included. For phenomenology study, we suggest the integral over one-side mass region below $…
We consider Z' and W' models recently proposed to explain the top forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron. We present the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to associated production of such vector bosons together with top quarks at the Large Hadron Collider, for centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The corrections are significant, modifying the total production cross-section by 30-50%. We consider the effects of the corrections on the top and vector-boson kinematics. The results are directly applicable to current experimental searches, for both the ATLAS and CMS collaborations.
The forward-backward asymmetry of $b$-quark jets on the $Z$-pole measured at LEP/SLD experiments shows us -2.8-$σ$ deviation from the Standard Model (SM) prediction. We examine a possibility of Kaluza-Klein (KK) gluon to explain the $\afbb$ data in a scenario based on the warped extra dimension model by Randall and Sundrum. In this scenario, the KK gluon strongly couples to $b$-quark by an appropriate choice of the bulk quark mass terms. We find that the $\afbb$ data could be explained if the KK gluon mass is few hundred GeV. Constraints on our scenario from the hadron collider experiments are…
The mass eigen states $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ are mixture of the strange members of two axial-vector SU(3) octet, $^3P_1(K_1^A)$ and $^1P_1(K_1^B)$. Taking into account this mixture, the forward-backward asymmetry and branching ratio of $B \rar K_1(1270,1400) \ell^+ \ell^-$ transitions are studied in the framework of different supersymmetric models. It is found that the results have considerable deviation from the standard model predictions. Any measurement of these physical observables and their comparison with the results obtained in this paper can give useful information about the natur…
We derive generic predictions at hadron colliders from the large forward-backward asymmetry observed at the Tevatron, assuming the latter arises from heavy new physics beyond the Standard Model. We use an effective field theory approach to characterize the associated unknown dynamics. By fitting the Tevatron t \bar t data we derive constraints on the form of the new physics. Furthermore, we show that heavy new physics explaining the Tevatron data generically enhances at high invariant masses both the top pair production cross section and the charge asymmetry at the LHC. This enhancement can be…
The forward-backward asymmetry in e+ e- annihilation into a quark-antiquark pair is considered in the double-logarithmic approximation at energies much higher than the masses of the weak bosons. It is shown that after accounting to all orders for the exchange of virtual photons and W, Z -bosons one is lead to the following effect (asymmetry): quarks with positive electric charge (e.g. u, \bar{d}) tend to move in the e+ - direction whereas quarks with negative charges (e.g. d, \bar{u}) tend to move in the e- - direction. The value of the asymmetry grows with increasing energy when the produced …
Recent measurements of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron could hint at new physics with an unexpected flavor structure. The significance of such an abnormal flavor structure in alleviating the tension between the various determinations of $|V_{ub}|$ via right-handed charge currents is studied. In particular, we elaborate on how the associated new flavor changing couplings naturally allow for the generation of anomalous loop-induced right-handed charge currents which can simultaneously remove the tension in the determinations of $|V_{ub}|$ and escape the tight indirect bo…
