Video classification problem has been studied many years. The success of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) in image recognition tasks gives a powerful incentive for researchers to create more advanced video classification approaches. As video has a temporal content Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) networks become handy tool allowing to model long-term temporal clues. Both approaches need a large dataset of input data. In this paper three models provided to address video classification using recently announced YouTube-8M large-scale dataset. The first model is based on frame pooling approach. Two other models based on LSTM networks. Mixture of Experts intermediate layer is used in third model allowing to increase model capacity without dramatically increasing computations. The set of experiments for handling imbalanced training data has been conducted.

Pretraining from unlabelled web videos has quickly become the de-facto means of achieving high performance on many video understanding tasks. Features are learned via prediction of grounded relationships between visual content and automatic speech recognition (ASR) tokens. However, prior pretraining work has been limited to only instructional videos; a priori, we expect this domain to be relatively "easy:" speakers in instructional videos will often reference the literal objects/actions being depicted. We ask: can similar models be trained on more diverse video corpora? And, if so, what types …

This technical report describes our 2nd-place solution for the ECCV 2022 YouTube-VIS Long Video Challenge. We adopt the previously proposed online video instance segmentation method IDOL for this challenge. In addition, we use pseudo labels to further help contrastive learning, so as to obtain more temporally consistent instance embedding to improve tracking performance between frames. The proposed method obtains 40.2 AP on the YouTube-VIS 2022 long video dataset and was ranked second place in this challenge. We hope our simple and effective method could benefit further research.
YouTube videos often include captivating descriptions and intriguing thumbnails designed to increase the number of views, and thereby increase the revenue for the person who posted the video. This creates an incentive for people to post clickbait videos, in which the content might deviate significantly from the title, description, or thumbnail. In effect, users are tricked into clicking on clickbait videos. In this research, we consider the challenging problem of detecting clickbait YouTube videos. We experiment with multiple state-of-the-art machine learning techniques using a variety of text…
Image analysis technologies empowered by artificial intelligence (AI) have proved images and videos to be an opportune source of data to learn about humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) population sizes and dynamics. With the advent of social media, platforms such as YouTube present an abundance of video data across spatiotemporal contexts documenting humpback whale encounters from users worldwide. In our work, we focus on automating the classification of YouTube videos as relevant or irrelevant based on whether they document a true humpback whale encounter or not via deep learning. We use …
Video object segmentation (VOS) has made significant progress with the rise of deep learning. However, there still exist some thorny problems, for example, similar objects are easily confused and tiny objects are difficult to be found. To solve these problems and further improve the performance of VOS, we propose a simple yet effective solution for this task. In the solution, we first analyze the distribution of the Youtube-VOS dataset and supplement the dataset by introducing public static and video segmentation datasets. Then, we improve three network architectures with different characteris…

People often watch videos on the web to learn how to cook new recipes, assemble furniture or repair a computer. We wish to enable robots with the very same capability. This is challenging; there is a large variation in manipulation actions and some videos even involve multiple persons, who collaborate by sharing and exchanging objects and tools. Furthermore, the learned representations need to be general enough to be transferable to robotic systems. On the other hand, previous work has shown that the space of human manipulation actions has a linguistic, hierarchical structure that relates acti…

Deep visuomotor policy learning, which aims to map raw visual observation to action, achieves promising results in control tasks such as robotic manipulation and autonomous driving. However, it requires a huge number of online interactions with the training environment, which limits its real-world application. Compared to the popular unsupervised feature learning for visual recognition, feature pretraining for visuomotor control tasks is much less explored. In this work, we aim to pretrain policy representations for driving tasks by watching hours-long uncurated YouTube videos. Specifically, w…

Semantic cues and statistical regularities in real-world environment layouts can improve efficiency for navigation in novel environments. This paper learns and leverages such semantic cues for navigating to objects of interest in novel environments, by simply watching YouTube videos. This is challenging because YouTube videos don't come with labels for actions or goals, and may not even showcase optimal behavior. Our method tackles these challenges through the use of Q-learning on pseudo-labeled transition quadruples (image, action, next image, reward). We show that such off-policy Q-learning …
