Observation of Electromagnetic Fluctuation Induced Particle Transport in ETG Dominated Large Laboratory Plasma

The Large Volume Plasma device(LVPD), a cylindrically shaped, linear plasma device of dimension( $ϕ=2m $, $ L =3m $) have successfully demonstrated the excitation of Electron Temperature Gradient(ETG) turbulence[ Mattoo et al.,[1]]. The observed ETG turbulence shows significant power between $ω\sim (25-90 krad/s )> Ω_{ci}(= 8 krad/s )$, corresponding to the wavenumber, $ k_y ρ_e ~ (0.1- 0.2)$ where, $ Ω_{ci}$ and $ρ_e(=5 mm ) $, ion cyclotron frequency and electron Larmor radius, respectively. Radiation dominated particle and plasma dynamics

We consider the general problem of charged particle motion in a strong electromagnetic field of arbitrary configuration and find a universal behaviour: for sufficiently high field strengths, the radiation losses lead to a general tendency of the charge to move along the direction that locally yields zero lateral acceleration. The relativistic motion along such a direction results in no radiation losses, according to both classical and quantum descriptions of radiation reaction. High-order corrections to the radiation-free dynamics of an electron in the strongly radiation-dominated regime

A system of reduced equations is proposed for the electron motion in the strongly-radiation dominated regime for an arbitrary electromagnetic field configuration. The developed approach is used to analyze various scenarios of an electron dynamics in the strongly-radiation dominated regime: motion in rotating electric and magnetic fields, longitudinal acceleration in a plane wave and in a plasma wakefield.
