Using Lindblad dynamics we study quantum spin systems with dissipative boundary dynamics that generate a stationary nonequilibrium state with a non-vanishing spin current that is locally conserved except at the boundaries. We demonstrate that with suitably chosen boundary target states one can solve the many-body Lindblad equation exactly in any dimension. As solution we obtain pure states at any finite value of the dissipation strength and any system size. They are characterized by a helical stationary magnetization profile and a superdiffusive ballistic current of order one, independent of system size even when the quantum spin system is not integrable. These results are derived in explicit form for the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain and its higher-spin generalizations (which include for spin-1 the integrable Zamolodchikov-Fateev model and the bi-quadratic Heisenberg chain). The extension of the results to higher dimensions is straightforward.
The B20 magnets with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (D-M) interaction exhibit spin helix and Skyrmion spin textures unattainable in traditional Heisenberg ferromagnets. We have determined the intrinsic resistivity of the spin helix, which is a macroscopic Bloch domain wall, in B20 (Fe-Co)Si magnets. We found a universal resistance ratio of gamma = 1.35 with current parallel and perpendicular to the helix, independent of composition and temperature. This gamma value is much smaller than 3, the well-known minimum value for domain wall resistivity in traditional ferromagnets, due to the significant sp…
Energy-saving spintronics are believed to be implementable on the systems hosting persistent spin helix (PSH) since they support an extraordinarily long spin lifetime of carriers. However, achieving the PSH requires a unidirectional spin configuration in the momentum space, which is practically non-trivial due to the stringent conditions for fine-tuning the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings. Here, we predict that the PSH can be intrinsically achieved on a two-dimensional (2D) group-IV monochalcogenide M X monolayer, a new class of the noncentrosymmetric 2D materials having in-plane f…
Motivated by emergent $SU(2)$ symmetry in the spin orbit coupled system, we study the spin helix driven insulating phase in two dimensional lattice. When both Rashba and Dresselhaus spin orbit couplings are present, the perfect Fermi surface nesting occurs at a special condition depending on the lattice geometry. In this case, the energies of spin up at any wave vector $\vec{k}$ are equivalent to the ones of spin down at $\vec{k}\!+\!\vec{Q}$ with so-called the \textit{shifting wave vector} $\vec{Q}$. Thus, the system stabilizes magnetic insulator with spiral like magnetic ordering even in the…
Finding a new class of materials supporting a long spin lifetime is essential in development of energy-saving spintronics, which is achievable by using a persistent spin helix (PSH) materials. However, for spintronic devices, the PSH states with large spin splitting is required for operation at room temperature. By employing first-principles calculations, we show that the PSH states with large spin splitting are achieved in the SnSe monolayer (ML) functionalized by a substitutional halogen impurity. We find the PSH states in the Fermi level where k-space Fermi surface is characterized by the s…
Spin-orbit coupling plays an important role in various properties of very different materials. Moreover efforts are underway to control the degree and quality of spin-orbit coupling in materials with a concomitant control of transport properties. We calculate the frequency dependent optical conductivity in systems with both Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling. We find that when the linear Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling is tuned to be equal to the Rashba spin-orbit coupling, the interband optical conductivity disappears. This is taken to be the signature of the recovery of SU(2) symmetr…
Here we report a resonant x-ray diffraction (RXD) study at the Cu L3 edge on the multi-chiral system CsCuCl3, exhibiting helical magnetic order in a chiral crystal structure. RXD is a powerful technique to disentangle electronic degrees of freedom due to its sensitivity to electric monopoles (charge), magnetic dipoles (spin), and electric quadrupoles (orbital). We characterize electric quadrupole moments around Cu ascribed to the unoccupied Cu 3d orbital, whose quantization axis is off the basal plane. Detailed investigation of magnetic reflections reveals additional sinusoidal modulations alo…
Magnetic helix wire is one of the most simple magnetic systems which manifest properties of both curvature and torsion. There exist two equilibrium states in the helix wire with easy-tangential anisotropy: a quasi-tangential magnetization distribution in case of relatively small curvatures and torsions, and an onion state in opposite case. In the last case the magnetization is close to tangential one, deviations are caused by the torsion and curvature. Possible equilibrium magnetization states in the helix magnet with different anisotropy directions are studied theoretically. The torsion also …
We systematically investigate possible helix states in XXZ Heisenberg model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. Exact solutions show that a set of precession helix states can be constructed by deliberate superposition of degenerate eigenstates of the Hamiltonian under the resonant condition. When a non-Hermitian balance boundary term is imposed as a quenching action, the quench dynamics shows that a steady helix state emerges from some easily prepared initial states, including saturate and maximally mixed ferromagnetic states, according to the analysis of perturbation method. The corr…
The coexistence of ferroelectricity and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in noncentrosymmetric systems may allow for a nonvolatile control of spin degrees of freedom by switching the ferroelectric polarization through the well-known ferroelectric Rashba effect (FRE). Although the FER has been widely observed for bulk ferroelectric systems, its existence in two-dimensional (2D) ferroelectric systems is still very rarely discovered. Based on first-principles calculations, supplemented with $\vec{k}\cdot\vec{p}$ analysis, we report the emergence of the FRE in the Ga$XY$ ($X$= Se, Te; $Y$= Cl, Br, I) mon…
The theoretical understanding of time-dependence in magnetic quantum systems is of great importance in particular for cases where a unitary time evolution is accompanied by relaxation processes. A key example is given by the dynamics of single-molecule magnets where quantum tunneling of the magnetization competes with thermal relaxation over the anisotropy barrier. In this article we investigate how good a Lindblad approach describes the relaxation in giant spin models and how the result depends on the employed operator that transmits the action of the thermal bath.

Nonequilibrium steady states (NESSs) in periodically driven dissipative quantum systems are vital in Floquet engineering. We develop a general theory for high-frequency drives with Lindblad-type dissipation to characterize and analyze NESSs based on the high-frequency (HF) expansion with linear algebraic numerics and without numerically solving the time evolution. This theory shows that NESSs can deviate from the Floquet-Gibbs state depending on the dissipation type. We show the validity and usefulness of the HF-expansion approach in concrete models for a diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center, …
In metallic magnets like MnSi the interplay of two very weak spin-orbit coupling effects can strongly modify the Fermi surface. In the absence of inversion symmetry even a very small Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction of strength delta<<1 distorts a ferromagnetic state into a chiral helix with a long pitch of order 1/delta. We show that additional small spin-orbit coupling terms of order delta in the band structure lead to the formation of exponentially flat minibands with a bandwidth of order exp(-1/sqrt(delta)) parallel to the direction of the helix. These flat minibands cover a rather broad b…
We report spin-polarized inelastic neutron scattering of the dynamical structure factor of the conical magnetic helix in the cubic chiral magnet MnSi. We find that the spectral weight of spin-flip scattering processes is concentrated on single branches for wavevector transfer parallel to the helix axis as inferred from well-defined peaks in the neutron spectra. In contrast, for wavevector transfers perpendicular to the helix the spectral weight is distributed among different branches of the magnon band structure as reflected in broader features of the spectra. Taking into account the effects o…
We present the results of resonant x-ray scattering measurements and electronic structure calculations on the monoarsenide FeAs. We elucidate details of the magnetic structure, showing the ratio of ellipticity of the spin helix is larger than previously thought, at 2.58(3), and reveal both a right-handed chirality and an out of plane component of the magnetic moments in the spin helix. We find that electronic structure calculations and analysis of the spin-orbit interaction are able to qualitatively account for this canting.
Using the Lindblad equation approach, we derive the range of the parameters of an interacting one-dimensional electronic chain connected to two reservoirs in the large bias limit in which an optimal working point (corresponding to a change in the monotonicity of the stationary current as a function of the applied bias) emerges in the nonequilibrium stationary state. In the specific case of the one-dimensional spinless fermionic Hubbard chain, we prove that an optimal working point emerges in the dependence of the stationary current on the coupling between the chain and the reservoirs, both in …
Linear dichroism -- the polarization dependent absorption of electromagnetic waves -- is routinely exploited in applications as diverse as structure determination of DNA or polarization filters in optical technologies. Here filamentary absorbers with a large length-to-width ratio are a prerequisite. For magnetization dynamics in the few GHz frequency regime strictly linear dichroism was not observed for more than eight decades. Here, we show that the bulk chiral magnet Cu$_{2}$OSeO$_{3}$ exhibits linearly polarized magnetization dynamics at an unexpectedly small frequency of about 2 GHz. Unlik…
A helix has a wavevector along the z axis with the magnetic moments ferromagnetically-aligned within xy planes with a turn angle kd between the moments in adjacent planes in transverse field Hx = 0. The magnetic structure and x-axis average magnetization per spin of this system in a classical XY anisotropy field HA is studied versus kd, HA, and large Hx at zero temperature. For values of HA below a kd-dependent maximum value, the xy helix phase transitions with increasing Hx into a spin-flop (SF) phase where the ordered moments have x, y, and z components. The moments in the SF phase are taken…

We report a study of the reorientation of the helimagnetic order in the archetypal cubic chiral magnet MnSi as a function of magnetic field direction. The reorientation process as inferred from small-angle neutron scattering, the magnetization, and the ac susceptibility is in excellent agreement with an effective mean-field theory taking into account the precise symmetries of the crystallographic space group. Depending on the field and temperature history and the direction of the field with respect to the crystalline axes, the helix reorientation may exhibit a crossover, a first-order, or a se…
The relaxation time of a classical spin interacting with a large conduction-electron system is computed for a weak magnetic field, which initially drives the spin out of equilibrium. We trace the spin and the conduction-electron dynamics on a time scale, which exceeds the characteristic electronic scale that is set by the inverse nearest-neighbor hopping by more than five orders of magnitude. This is achieved with a novel construction of absorbing boundary conditions, which employs a generalized Lindblad master-equation approach to couple the edge sites of the conduction-electron tight-binding…
We theoretically study the profile of a supercurrent in two-dimensional Josephson junctions with Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction (RDSOI) in the presence of a Zeeman field. Through investigating self-biased supercurrent (so called $φ_0$-Josephson state), we obtain explicit expressions for the functionality of the $φ_0$ state with respect to RDSOI parameters ($α,β$) and in-plane Zeeman field components ($h_x,h_y$). Our findings reveal that, when the chemical potential ($μ$) is high enough compared to the energy gap ($Δ$) in superconducting electrodes, i.e., $μ\gg Δ$, RSOI and DSOI with…
We report susceptibility, specific heat, and neutron diffraction measurements on NaCu$_2$O$_2$, a spin-1/2 chain compound isostructural to LiCu$_2$O$_2$, which has been extensively investigated. Below 13 K, we find a long-range ordered, incommensurate magnetic helix state with a propagation vector similar to that of LiCu$_2$O$_2$. In contrast to the Li analogue, substitutional disorder is negligible in NaCu$_2$O$_2$. We can thus rule out that the helix is induced by impurities, as was claimed on the basis of prior work on LiCu$_2$O$_2$. A spin Hamiltonian with frustrated longer-range exchange …
We explore a phenomenological phase diagram for the magnetic helical state with 90$^{\circ}$ turn angle between neighboring spins in the external magnetic field. Such state is formed by the Eu spin layers in the superconducting iron arsenide RbEuFe$_{4}$As$_{4}$. The peculiarity of this spin configuration is that it is not realized in the standard Heisenberg model with bilinear exchange interactions. A minimum model allowing for such a state requires the biquadratic nearest-neighbor interaction term. In addition, in tetragonal materials the 90$^\circ$ helix state may be stabilized by the in-pl…
