Linearizing the Word Problem in (some) Free Fields

We describe a solution of the word problem in free fields (coming from non-commutative polynomials over a commutative field) using elementary linear algebra, provided that the elements are given by minimal linear representations. It relies on the normal form of Cohn and Reutenauer and can be used more generally to (positively) test rational identities. Moreover we provide a construction of minimal linear representations for the inverse of non-zero elements.

Gröbner-Shirshov bases for Lie $Ω$-algebras and free Rota-Baxter Lie algebras

In this paper, we generalize the Lyndon-Shirshov words to Lyndon-Shirshov $Ω$-words on a set $X$ and prove that the set of all non-associative Lyndon-Shirshov $Ω$-words forms a linear basis of the free Lie $Ω$-algebra on the set $X$. From this, we establish Gröbner-Shirshov bases theory for Lie $Ω$-algebras. As applications, we give Gröbner-Shirshov bases for free $λ$-Rota-Baxter Lie algebras, free modified $λ$-Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and free Nijenhuis Lie algebras and then linear bases of such three free algebras are obtained.

Anti-commutative Groebner-Shirshov basis of a free Lie algebra

One of the natural ways to prove that the Hall words (Philip Hall, 1933) consist of a basis of a free Lie algebra is a direct construction: to start with a linear space spanned by Hall words, to define the Lie product of Hall words, and then to check that the product yields the Lie identities (Marshall Hall, 1950). Here we suggest another way using the Composition-Diamond lemma for free anti-commutative (non-associative) algebras (A.I. Shirshov, 1962).

Multiplication tables and word-hyperbolicity in free products of semigroups, monoids, and groups

This article studies the properties of word-hyperbolic semigroups and monoids, i.e. those having context-free multiplication tables with respect to a regular combing, as defined by Duncan & Gilman. In particular, the preservation of word-hyperbolicity under taking free products is considered. Under mild conditions on the semigroups involved, satisfied e.g. by monoids or regular semigroups, we prove that the semigroup free product of two word-hyperbolic semigroups is again word-hyperbolic. Relative locations of subwords in free operated semigroups and Motzkin words

Bracketed words are basic structures both in mathematics (such as Rota-Baxter algebras) and mathematical physics (such as rooted trees) where the locations of the substructures are important. In this paper we give the classification of the relative locations of two bracketed subwords of a bracketed word in an operated semigroup into the separated, nested and intersecting cases. We achieve this by establishing a correspondence between relative locations of bracketed words and those of words by applying the concept of Motzkin words which are the algebraic forms of Motzkin paths.

The word problem for free adequate semigroups

We study the complexity of computation in finitely generated free left, right and two-sided adequate semigroups and monoids. We present polynomial time (quadratic in the RAM model of computation) algorithms to solve the word problem and compute normal forms in each of these, and hence also to test whether any given identity holds in the classes of left, right and/or two-sided adequate semigroups.

Reynolds algebras and their free objects from bracketed words and rooted trees

The study of Reynolds algebras has its origin in the well-known work of O. Reynolds on fluid dynamics in 1895 and has since found broad applications. It also has close relationship with important linear operators such as algebra endomorphisms, derivations and Rota-Baxter operators.
