Tracking is one of the most important but still difficult tasks in computer vision and pattern recognition. The main difficulties in the tracking field are appearance variation and occlusion. Most traditional tracking methods set the parameters or templates to track target objects in advance and should be modified accordingly. Thus, we propose a new and robust tracking method using a Fully Convolutional Network (FCN) to obtain an object probability map and Dynamic Programming (DP) to seek the globally optimal path through all frames of video. Our proposed method solves the object appearance variation problem with the use of a FCN and deals with occlusion by DP. We show that our method is effective in tracking various single objects through video frames.

We propose a novel approach to automatically tracking cell populations in time-lapse images. To account for cell occlusions and overlaps, we introduce a robust method that generates an over-complete set of competing detection hypotheses. We then perform detection and tracking simultaneously on these hypotheses by solving to optimality an integer program with only one type of flow variables. This eliminates the need for heuristics to handle missed detections due to occlusions and complex morphology. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on a range of challenging sequences consisting …

In this paper, we develop a new approach of spatially supervised recurrent convolutional neural networks for visual object tracking. Our recurrent convolutional network exploits the history of locations as well as the distinctive visual features learned by the deep neural networks. Inspired by recent bounding box regression methods for object detection, we study the regression capability of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) in the temporal domain, and propose to concatenate high-level visual features produced by convolutional networks with region information. Siamese trackers demonstrated high performance in object tracking due to their balance between accuracy and speed. Unlike classification-based CNNs, deep similarity networks are specifically designed to address the image similarity problem, and thus are inherently more appropriate for the tracking task. However, Siamese trackers mainly use the last convolutional layers for similarity analysis and target search, which restricts their performance. In this paper, we argue that using a single convolutional layer as feature representation is not an optimal choice in a deep similarity framework. We …

Target tracking in hyperspectral videos is a new research topic. In this paper, a novel method based on convolutional network and Kernelized Correlation Filter (KCF) framework is presented for tracking objects of interest in hyperspectral videos. We extract a set of normalized three-dimensional cubes from the target region as fixed convolution filters which contain spectral information surrounding a target. The feature maps generated by convolutional operations are combined to form a three-dimensional representation of an object, thereby providing effective encoding of local spectral-spatial i…

This paper proposes a novel model, named Continuity-Discrimination Convolutional Neural Network (CD-CNN), for visual object tracking. Existing state-of-the-art tracking methods do not deal with temporal relationship in video sequences, which leads to imperfect feature representations. To address this problem, CD-CNN models temporal appearance continuity based on the idea of temporal slowness. Mathematically, we prove that, by introducing temporal appearance continuity into tracking, the upper bound of target appearance representation error can be sufficiently small with high probability. The features are used to learn discriminative target appearance models using an online Support Vector Machine (SVM). In addition, we construct target-specific saliency map by backpropagating CNN features with guidan…

This work proposes a novel framework for visual tracking based on the integration of an iterative particle filter, a deep convolutional neural network, and a correlation filter. The iterative particle filter enables the particles to correct themselves and converge to the correct target position. We employ a novel strategy to assess the likelihood of the particles after the iterations by applying K-means clustering. Our approach ensures a consistent support for the posterior distribution. Thus, we do not need to perform resampling at every video frame, improving the utilization of prior distrib…
The problem of arbitrary object tracking has traditionally been tackled by learning a model of the object's appearance exclusively online, using as sole training data the video itself. Despite the success of these methods, their online-only approach inherently limits the richness of the model they can learn. Recently, several attempts have been made to exploit the expressive power of deep convolutional networks. However, when the object to track is not known beforehand, it is necessary to perform Stochastic Gradient Descent online to adapt the weights of the network, severely compromising the …

The current deep learning based visual tracking approaches have been very successful by learning the target classification and/or estimation model from a large amount of supervised training data in offline mode. However, most of them can still fail in tracking objects due to some more challenging issues such as dense distractor objects, confusing background, motion blurs, and so on. Inspired by the human "visual tracking" capability which leverages motion cues to distinguish the target from the background, we propose a Two-Stream Residual Convolutional Network (TS-RCN) for visual tracking, whi…
Current convolutional neural networks algorithms for video object tracking spend the same amount of computation for each object and video frame. However, it is harder to track an object in some frames than others, due to the varying amount of clutter, scene complexity, amount of motion, and object's distinctiveness against its background. We propose a depth-adaptive convolutional Siamese network that performs video tracking adaptively at multiple neural network depths. Parametric gating functions are trained to control the depth of the convolutional feature extractor by minimizing a joint loss…

One of the main challenges of visual object tracking comes from the arbitrary appearance of objects. Most existing algorithms try to resolve this problem as an object-specific task, i.e., the model is trained to regenerate or classify a specific object. As a result, the model need to be initialized and retrained for different objects. In this paper, we propose a more generic approach utilizing a novel two-flow convolutional neural network (named YCNN). The YCNN takes two inputs (one is object image patch, the other is search image patch), then outputs a response map which predicts how likely t…

Defining a multi-target motion model, which is an important step of tracking algorithms, can be very challenging. Using fixed models (as in several generative Bayesian algorithms, such as Kalman filters) can fail to accurately predict sophisticated target motions. On the other hand, sequential learning of the motion model (for example, using recurrent neural networks) can be computationally complex and difficult due to the variable unknown number of targets. In this paper, we propose a multi-target filtering and tracking algorithm which learns the motion model, simultaneously for all targets, …

However, these synthetic samples also induce some negative effects which weaken the robustness of DCF based trackers. In this paper, we propose a Convolutional Regression fram…
