We classify the Morita equivalence classes of blocks with elementary abelian defect groups of order $16$ with respect to a complete discrete valuation ring with algebraically closed residue field of characteristic two. As a consequence, blocks with this defect group are derived equivalent to their Brauer correspondent in the normalizer of a defect group and so satisfy Broué's Conjecture.
A surjective Morita context connecting semigroups $S$ and $T$ yields a Morita semigroup and a strict local isomorphism from it onto $S$ along which idempotents lift. We describe strong Morita equivalence of firm semigroups in terms of Morita semigroups and isomorphisms. We also generalize some of Hotzel's theorems to semigroups with weak local units. In particular, the Morita semigroup induced by a dual pair $β$ over a semigroup with weak local units is isomorphic to $Σ^β$.
We prove that the cohomology group of a Deligne-Lusztig variety defines a Morita equivalence in a case which is not covered by the argument by Bonnafé, Dat and Rouquier, specifically we consider the situation for semisimple elements in type $D$ whose centralizer has non-cyclic component group.
Given a dihedral $2$-group $P$ of order at least~8, we classify the splendid Morita equivalence classes of principal $2$-blocks with defect groups isomorphic to $P$. To this end we construct explicit stable equivalences of Morita type induced by specific Scott modules using Brauer indecomposability and gluing methods; we then determine when these stable equivalences are actually Morita equivalences, and hence automatically splendid Morita equivalences. Finally, we compute the generalised decomposition numbers in each case.
We classify principal blocks of finite groups with semidihedral defect groups up to splendid Morita equivalence. This completes the classification of all principal $2$-blocks of tame representation type up to splendid Morita equivalence and shows that Puig's Finiteness Conjecture holds for such blocks.
We classify the Morita equivalence classes of principal blocks with elementary abelian defect groups of order 64 with respect to a complete discrete valuation ring with an algebraically closed residue field of characteristic two.
We show that several Morita equivalence classes of tame algebras do not occur as blocks of finite groups. This refines classifications by Erdmann of classes of blocks with dihedral, semidihedral, and generalised quaternion defect groups. In particular we now have a complete classification of the Morita equivalence classes of blocks of finite groups with dihedral defect groups.
We prove that splendid Morita equivalences between principal blocks of finite groups with dihedral Sylow $2$-subgroups realised by Scott modules can be lifted to splendid Morita equivalences between principal blocks of finite groups with generalised quaternion Sylow $2$-subgroups realised by Scott modules.
We describe a general technique to classify blocks of finite groups, and we apply it to determine Morita equivalence classes of blocks with elementary abelian defect groups of order 32 with respect to a complete discrete valuation ring with an algebraically closed residue field of characteristic two. As a consequence we verify that a conjecture of Harada holds on these blocks.
We prove the existence of Morita equivalences between the spin blocks at the extremal points of strings in the block-reduced crystal graph. When the parities of the core partitions are not preserved, these equivalences require crossovers, with a block of the symmtric group Morita equivalent to a block of the alternating group and vice versa. The result permits in improvement of the bound for Donovan's Conjecture given by Kessar.
By results of the second author, a source algebra equivalence between two $p$-blocks of finite groups induces an equivalence between the categories of cohomological Mackey functors associated with these blocks, and a splendid derived equivalence between two blocks induces a derived equivalence between the corresponding categories of cohomological Mackey functors. The main result of this paper proves a partial converse: an equivalence (resp. Rickard equivalence) between the categories of cohomological Mackey functors of two blocks of finite groups induces a permeable Morita (resp. derived) equi…
We introduce strong Morita equivalence for inverse semigroups. This notion encompasses Mark Lawson's concept of enlargement. Strongly Morita equivalent inverse semigroups have Morita equivalent universal groupoids in the sense of Paterson and hence strongly Morita equivalent universal and reduced $C^*$-algebras. As a consequence we obtain a new proof of a result of Khoshkam and Skandalis showing that the $C^*$-algebra of an $F$-inverse semigroup is strongly Morita equivalent to a cross product of a commutative $C^*$-algebra by a group.
A well-known result of Scopes states that there are only finitely many Morita equivalence classes of $p$-blocks of symmetric groups with a given weight (or defect). In this note we investigate a lower bound on the number of those Morita equivalence classes.
We investigate Conjecture 1.6 introduced by Barker and Gelvin in [3], which says that any source algebra of a p-block (p is a prime) of finite group has the unit group containing a basis stabilized by left and right action of the defect group. We will reduce this conjecture to a similar statement about basis of the hyperfocal subalgebras in the source algebra. We will also show that such unital basis of source algebras of two p-blocks, stabilized by left and right action of the defect group, are transported trough basic Morita equivalences.
We show that the theory of MV-algebras is Morita-equivalent to that of abelian $\ell$-groups with strong unit. This generalizes the well-known equivalence between the categories of set-based models of the two theories established by D. Mundici in 1986, and allows to transfer properties and results across them by using the methods of topos theory. We discuss several applications, including a sheaf-theoretic version of Mundici's equivalence and a bijective correspondence between the geometric theory extensions of the two theories.
Categorical equivalences between block algebras of finite groups - such as Morita and derived equivalences - are well-known to induce character bijections which commute with the Galois groups of field extensions. This is the motivation for attempting to realise known Morita and derived equivalences over non splitting fields. This article presents various result on the theme of descent. We start with the observation that perfect isometries induced by a virtual Morita equivalence induce isomorphisms of centers in non-split situations, and explain connections with Navarro's generalisation of the …
As a step to establish the blockwise Alperin weight conjecture for all finite groups, we verify the inductive blockwise Alperin weight condition introduced by Navarro--Tiep and Späth for simple groups of Lie type $\mathsf A$, split or twisted. Key to the proofs is to reduce the verification of the inductive condition to the isolated (that means unipotent) blocks, using the Jordan decomposition for blocks of finite reductive groups given by Bonnafé, Dat and Rouquier.
We show that a bimodule between block algebras which has a fusion stable endopermutation module as a source and which induces Morita equivalences between centralisers of nontrivial subgroups of a defect group induces a stable equivalence of Morita type; this is a converse to a theorem of Puig. The special case where the source is trivial has long been known by many authors. The earliest instance for a result deducing a stable equivalence of Morita type from local Morita equivalences with possibly nontrivial endopermutation source is due to Puig, in the context of blocks with abelian defect gro…
