The cosmological evolution of standard model Yukawa couplings may have major implications for baryogenesis. In particular, as highlighted recently, the CKM matrix alone could be the source of CP-violation during electroweak baryogenesis provided that the Yukawa couplings were large and varied during the electroweak phase transition. We provide a natural realisation of this idea in the context of Randall-Sundrum models and show that the geometrical warped approach to the fermion mass hierarchy may naturally display the desired cosmological dynamics. The key ingredient is the coupling of the Goldberger-Wise scalar, responsible for the IR brane stabilisation, to the bulk fermions, which modifies the fermionic profiles. This also helps alleviating the usually tight constraints from CP-violation in Randall-Sundrum scenarios. We study how the Yukawa couplings vary during the stabilisation of the Randall-Sundrum geometry and can thus induce large CP-violation during the electroweak phase transition. Using holography, we discuss the 4D interpretation of this dynamical interplay between flavour and electroweak symmetry breaking.
Four zero neutrino Yukawa textures in a specified weak basis, combined with $μτ$ symmetry and type-I seesaw, yield a highly constrained and predictive scheme. Two alternately viable $3\times3$ light neutrino Majorana mass matrices $m_{νA}/m_{νB}$ result with inverted/normal mass ordering. Neutrino masses, Majorana in character and predicted within definite ranges with laboratory and cosmological inputs, will have their sum probed cosmologically. The rate for $0νββ$ decay, though generally below the reach of planned experiments, could approach it in some parameter region. Departure from $μτ$ sy…
Can the cosmological dynamics responsible for settling down the present values of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix be related to electroweak symmetry breaking? If the Standard Model Yukawa couplings varied in the early universe and started with order one values before electroweak symmetry breaking, the CP violation associated with the CKM matrix could be the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry. The large effective Yukawa couplings which lead to the enhanced CP violation can also help in achieving a strong first-order electroweak phase transition. We study in detail the feasibility of…
We consider a quintessence model with Yukawa interaction between dark energy and dark matter and constrain this model by employing the recent cosmological data including the updated cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements from Planck 2015, the weak gravitational lensing measurements from Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS) and redshift-space distortions. We find that an interaction in the dark sector is compatible with observations. The updated Planck data can significantly improve the constraints compared with the previous results from Planck 2013, while the KiDS data has less constraining power…
We propose a scotogenic model for generating neutrino masses through a three-loop seesaw. It is a minimally extended inert doublet model with a spontaneously broken global symmetry $U(1)'$ and a preserved $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. The three-loop suppression allows the new particles to have masses at the TeV scale without fine-tuning the Yukawa couplings. The model leads to a rich phenomenology while satisfying all the current constraints imposed by neutrinoless double-beta decay, charged-lepton flavor violation, and electroweak precision observables. The relatively large Yukawa couplings lead t…
Within the low scale resonant leptogenesis scenario, the cosmological CP asymmetry may arise by radiative corrections through the charged lepton Yukawa couplings. While in some cases, as one expects, decisive role is played by the $λ_{τ}$ coupling, we show that in specific neutrino textures only by inclusion of the $λ_{μ}$ the cosmological CP violation is generated at 1-loop level. With the purpose to relate the cosmological CP violation to the leptonic CP phase $δ$, we consider an extension of MSSM with two right handed neutrinos (RHN), which are degenerate in mass at high scales. Together wi…
Within the extension of MSSM by two right handed neutrinos, which masses are degenerate at tree level, we address the issue of leptogenesis. Investigating the quantum corrections in details, we show that the lepton asymmetry is induced at 1-loop level and decisive role is played by the tau lepton Yukawa coupling. On a concrete and predictive neutrino model, which enables to predict the CP violating $δ$ phase and relate it to the cosmological CP asymmetry, we demonstrate that the needed amount of the baryon asymmetry is generated via the resonant leptogenesis.
With the hypothesis of minimal flavor violation, we find that there exists a power-aligned relation between the Yukawa couplings of the two scalar doublets in the two-Higgs-doublet model with Hermitian Yukawa matrices. Within such a power-aligned framework, it is found that a simultaneous explanation of the anomalies observed in the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments can be reached with TeV-scale quasi-degenerate Higgs masses, and the resulting parameter space is also phenomenologically safer under the B-physics, $Z$ and $τ$ decay data, as well as the current LHC bounds. Furthermore,…
We propose a new production mechanism for keV sterile neutrino dark matter which relies neither on the oscillations between sterile and active neutrinos nor on the decay of additional heavier particles. The dark matter neutrinos are instead produced by thermal freeze-out, much like a typical WIMP. The challenge consists in balancing a large Yukawa coupling so that the sterile neutrinos thermalize in the early universe on the one hand, and a small enough Yukawa coupling such that they are stable on cosmological scales on the other. We solve this problem by implementing varying Yukawa couplings.…
We study the fixed point structure of the Higgs-Yukawa model, with its scalar being non-minimally coupled to the asymptotically safe gravity, using the functional renormalization group. We have obtained the renormalization group equations for the cosmological and Newton constants, the scalar mass-squared and quartic coupling constant, and the Yukawa and non-minimal coupling constants, taking into account all the scalar, fermion, and graviton loops. We find that switching on the fermionic quantum fluctuations makes the non-minimal coupling constant irrelevant around the Gaussian-matter fixed po…
We study a ${U(1)}_R$ symmetric extenstion of supersymmetric standard model with supersymmetry breaking in the visible as well as hidden sectors. Specifically we study ${U(1)}_R$ breaking effects parametrized by the gravitino mass. A special $R$-charge assignment of right-handed neutrinos allows us to have neutrino Yukawa couplings with the $R$-charged Higgs field, which develops a tiny vacuum expectation value after the inclusion of $U(1)_R$ symmetry breaking. Even with O(1) Yukawa couplings, a suitable size of Dirac neutrino masses can be generated if the gravitino mass is very small, $m_{3/…
We investigate whether right-handed neutrinos can play the role of the dark matter of the Universe and be generated by the freeze-out production mechanism. In the standard picture, the requirement of a long lifetime of the right-handed neutrinos implies a small neutrino Yukawa coupling. As a consequence, they never reach thermal equilibrium, thus prohibiting production by freeze-out. We note that this limitation is alleviated if the neutrino Yukawa coupling is large enough in the early Universe to thermalize the sterile neutrinos, and then becomes tiny at a certain moment, which makes them dro…
In the cosmological context, for the Standard Model to be valid up to the scale of inflation, the top quark Yukawa coupling $y_t$ should not exceed the critical value $y_t^{crit}$, coinciding with good precision (about 0.02%) with the requirement of the stability of the electroweak vacuum. So, the exact measurements of $y_t$ may give an insight on the possible existence and the energy scale of new physics above 100 GeV, which is extremely sensitive to $y_t$. We overview the most recent theoretical computations of $y_t^{crit}$ and the experimental measurements of $y_t$. Within the theoretical a…
We study asymptotic safety of models of the higher derivative quantum gravity with and without matter. The beta functions are derived by utilizing the functional renormalization group, and non-trivial fixed points are found. It turns out that all couplings in gravity sector, namely the cosmological constant, the Newton constant, and the $R^2$ and $R_{μν}^2$ coupling constants, are relevant in case of higher derivative pure gravity. For the Higgs-Yukawa model non-minimal coupled with higher derivative gravity, we find a stable fixed point at which the scalar-quartic and the Yukawa coupling cons…
We show that the evolution of interacting massive particles in the de Sitter bulk can be understood at leading order as a series of resonant decay and production events. From this perspective, we classify the cosmological collider signals into local and nonlocal categories with drastically different physical origins. This further allows us to derive a cutting rule for efficiently extracting these cosmological collider signals in an analytical fashion. Our cutting rule is a practical way for extracting cosmological collider signals in model building, and can be readily implemented as symbolic c…
Supersymmetric GUTs based on SO(10) gauge group are leading contenders to describe particle physics beyond the Standard Model. Among these the "New minimal supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory" (NMSGUT) based on Higgs system 10+120+210+126+$\overline{126}$ has been developing since 1982. It now successfully fits the whole standard Model gauge coupling, symmetry breaking and fermion mass-mixing data as well as the neutrino mass and mixing data in terms of NMSGUT parameters and just 6 soft supersymmetry breaking parameters defined at the GUT scale. In this thesis we study the phenomenology…

We discuss how a scenario recently proposed for the morphing of macroscopic gravitation into weak interactions at the attometer scale affects our current understanding of high-energy density phenomena. We find that the Yukawa couplings of the fundamental fermions are directly related to their event horizons, setting an upper bound $y_f\leq \sqrt{2}$ for their observability through gauge interactions. Particles with larger Yukawa couplings are not precluded, but should interact only gravitationally, providing a natural candidate for dark matter. Furthermore, the quantum vacuum contribution to t…
