This paper deals with the numerical computations of two space dimensional time dependent parabolic partial differential equations by adopting adopting an optimal five stage fourth-order strong stability preserving Runge Kutta (SSP-RK54) scheme for time discretization, and three methods of differential quadrature with different sets of modified B-splines as base functions, for space discretization: namely i) mECDQM: (DQM with modified extended cubic B-splines); ii) mExp-DQM: DQM with modified exponential cubic B-splines, and iii) MTB-DQM: DQM with modified trigonometric cubic B-splines. Specially, we implement these methods on convection-diffusion equation to convert them into a system of first order ordinary differential equations,in time which can be solved using any time integration method, while we prefer SSP-RK54 scheme. All the three methods are found stable for two space convection-diffusion equation by employing matrix stability analysis method. The accuracy and validity of the methods are confirmed by three test problems of two dimensional convection-diffusion equation, which shows that the proposed approximate solutions by any of the method are in good agreement with the exact solutions.
We present a loosely coupled, non-iterative time-splitting scheme based on Robin-Robin coupling conditions. We apply a novel unified analysis for this scheme applied to both a Parabolic/Parabolic coupled system and a Parabolic/Hyperbolic coupled system. We show for both systems that the scheme is stable, and the error converges as $\mathcal{O}\big(Δt \sqrt{T +\log{\frac{1}{Δt}}}\big)$, where $Δt$ is the time step
We investigate the resolution of parabolic PDEs via Extreme Learning Machine (ELMs) Neural Networks, which have a single hidden layer and can be trained at a modest computational cost as compared with Deep Learning Neural Networks. Our approach addresses the time evolution by applying classical ODEs techniques and uses ELM-based collocation for solving the resulting stationary elliptic problems. In this framework, the $θ$-method and Backward Difference Formulae (BDF) techniques are investigated on some linear parabolic PDEs that are challeging problems for the stability and accuracy properties…
We propose in this paper the Wavelet-based Edge Multiscale Parareal (WEMP) Algorithm to efficiently solve parabolic equations with heterogeneous coefficients. This algorithm combines the advantages of multiscale methods that can deal with heterogeneity in the spacial domain effectively, and the strength of parareal algorithms for speeding up time evolution problems when sufficient processors are available. We derive the convergence rate of this algorithm in terms of the mesh size in the spatial domain, the level parameter used in the multiscale method, the coarse-scale time step and the fine-s…
In this paper, we introduce cell-average based neural network (CANN) method to solve high-dimensional parabolic partial differential equations. The method is based on the integral or weak formulation of partial differential equations. A feedforward network is considered to train the solution average of cells in neighboring time. Initial values and approximate solution at $t=Δt$ obtained by high order numerical method are taken as the inputs and outputs of network, respectively. We use supervised training combined with a simple backpropagation algorithm to train the network parameters. We find …
In this paper, we develop a new reduced basis (RB) method, named as Single Eigenvalue Acceleration Method (SEAM), for second-order parabolic equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. The high-fidelity numerical method adopts the backward Euler scheme and conforming finite elements for the temporal and spatial discretization, respectively. Under the assumption that the time step size is sufficiently small and time steps are not very large, we show that the singular value distribution of the high-fidelity solution matrix $U$ is close to that of a rank one matrix. We select the ei…
Numerical modeling and open-source implementation of variational partition-of-unity localizations of space-time dual-weighted residual estimators for parabolic problems
This work presents and analyzes space-time finite element methods on fully unstructured simplicial space-time meshes for the numerical solution of parabolic optimal control problems. Using Babuška's theorem, we show well-posedness of the first-order optimality systems for a typical model problem with linear state equations, but without control constraints. This is done for both continuous and discrete levels. Based on these results, we derive discretization error estimates. Then we consider a semilinear parabolic optimal control problem arising from the Schlögl model. The associated nonlinear …
In recent years a large literature on deep learning based methods for the numerical solution partial differential equations has emerged; results for integro-differential equations on the other hand are scarce. In this paper we study deep neural network algorithms for solving linear and semilinear parabolic partial integro-differential equations with boundary conditions in high dimension. To show the viability of our approach we discuss several case studies from insurance and finance.
