A relation between gravity on Poisson manifolds proposed in arXiv:1508.05706 and Einstein gravity is investigated. The compatibility of the Poisson and Riemann structures defines a unique connection, the contravariant Levi-Civita connection, and leads to the idea of the contravariant gravity. The Einstein-Hilbert-type action yields an equation of motion which is written in terms of the analog of the Einstein tensor, and it includes couplings between the metric and the Poisson tensor. The study of the Weyl transformation reveals properties of those interactions. It is argued that this theory can have an equivalent description as a system of Einstein gravity coupled to matter. As an example, it is shown that the contravariant gravity on a two-dimensional Poisson manifold can be described by a real scalar field coupled to the metric in a specific manner.
We investigate a relation of the contravariant geometry to the emergent gravity from noncommutative gauge theories. We give a refined formulation of the contravariant gravity and provide solutions to the contravariant Einstein equation. We linearize the equation around background solutions, including curved ones. A noncommutative gauge theory on the Moyal plane can be rewritten as an ordinary gauge theory on a curved background via the Seiberg-Witten map, which is known as the emergent gravity. We show that this phenomenon also occurs for a gauge theory on a noncommutative homogeneous Kähler b…
A novel gravity theory based on Poisson Generalized Geometry is investigated. A gravity theory on a Poisson manifold equipped with a Riemannian metric is constructed from a contravariant version of the Levi-Civita connection, which is based on the Lie algebroid of a Poisson manifold. Then, we show that in Poisson Generalized Geometry the $R$-fluxes are consistently coupled with such a gravity. An $R$-flux appears as a torsion of the corresponding connection in a similar way as an $H$-flux which appears as a torsion of the connection for- mulated in the standard Generalized Geometry. We give an…
We study a class of Poisson-Nijenhuis systems defined on compact hermitian symmetric spaces, where the Nijenhuis tensor is defined as the composition of Kirillov-Konstant-Souriau symplectic form with the so called Bruhat-Poisson structure. We determine its spectrum. In the case of Grassmannians the eigenvalues are the Gelfand-Tsetlin variables. We introduce the abelian algebra of collective hamiltonians defined by a chain of nested subalgebras and prove complete integrability. By construction, these models are integrable with respect to both Poisson structures. The eigenvalues of the Nijenhuis…
Newly introduced generalized Poisson structures based on suitable skew-symmetric contravariant tensors of even order are discussed in terms of the Schouten-Nijenhuis bracket. The associated `Jacobi identities' are expressed as conditions on these tensors, the cohomological contents of which is given. In particular, we determine the linear generalized Poisson structures which can be constructed on the dual spaces of simple Lie algebras.
On the base of the distinction between covariant and contravariant metric tensor components, an approach from algebraic geometry will be proposed, aimed at finding new solutions of the Einstein's equations both in GTCCCM and in standard gravity theory, if these equations are treated as algebraic equations. As a partial case, some physical applications of the approach have been considered in reference to theories with extra dimensions. The s.c. "length function" l(x) has been introduced and has been found as a solution of quasilinear differential equations in partial derivatives for two differe…
New generalized Poisson structures are introduced by using skew-symmetric contravariant tensors of even order. The corresponding `Jacobi identities' are given by the vanishing of the Schouten-Nijenhuis bracket. As an example, we provide the linear generalized Poisson structures which can be constructed on the dual spaces of simple Lie algebras.
We derive Einstein's equations from a linear theory in flat space-time using free-field gauge invariance and universal coupling. The gravitational potential can be either covariant or contravariant and of almost any density weight. We adapt these results to yield universally coupled massive variants of Einstein's equations, yielding two one-parameter families of distinct theories with spin 2 and spin 0. The Freund-Maheshwari-Schonberg theory is therefore not the unique universally coupled massive generalization of Einstein's theory, although it is privileged in some respects. The theories we d…
Motivated by the necessity to find exact solutions with the elliptic Weierstrass function of the Einstein's equations (see gr-qc/0105022),the present paper develops further the proposed approach in hep-th/0107231, concerning the s.c. cubic algebraic equation for effective parametrization. Obtaining an ''embedded'' sequence of cubic equations, it is shown that it is possible to parametrize also a multi-variable cubic curve, which is not the standardly known case from algebraic geometry. Algebraic solutions for the contravariant metric tensor components are derived and the parametrization is ext…
The Einstein's gravity theory can be formulated as an SL(2,C) gauge theory in terms of spinor notations. In this paper, we consider a noncommutative space with the Poisson structure and construct an SL(2,C) formulation of gravity on such a space. Using the covariant coordinate technique, we build a gauge invariant action in which, according to the Seiberg-Witten map, the physical degrees of freedom are expressed in terms of their commutative counterparts up to the first order in noncommutative parameters.
In the Palatini action of general relativity the connection and the metric are treated as independent dynamical variables. Instead of assuming a relation between these quantities, the desired relation between them is derived through the Euler-Lagrange equations of the Palatini action. In this manuscript we construct an extended Palatini action, where we do not assume any a priori relationship between the connection, the covariant metric tensor, and the contravariant metric tensor. Instead we treat these three quantities as independent dynamical variables. We show that this action reproduces th…
Einstein's equations in a tetrad formulation are derived from a linear theory in flat spacetime with an asymmetric potential using free field gauge invariance, local Lorentz invariance and universal coupling. The gravitational potential can be either covariant or contravariant and of almost any density weight. These results are adapted to produce universally coupled massive variants of Einstein's equations, yielding two one-parameter families of distinct theories with spin 2 and spin 0. The theories derived, upon fixing the local Lorentz gauge freedom, are seen to be a subset of those found by…
Based on the distinction between the covariant and contravariant metric tensor components in the framework of the affine geometry approach and the s.c. "gravitational theories with covariant and contravariant connection and metrics", it is shown that a wide variety of third, fourth, fifth, seventh, tenth- degree algebraic equations exists in gravity theory. This is important in view of finding new solutions of the Einstein's equations, if they are treated as algebraic ones. Since the obtained cubic algebraic equations are multivariable, the standard algebraic geometry approach for parametrizat…
Using a Lax pair based on twisted affine $sl(2,R)$ Kac-Moody and Virasoro algebras, we deduce a r-matrix formulation of two dimensional reduced vacuum Einstein's equations. Whereas the fundamental Poisson brackets are non-ultralocal, they lead to pure c-number modified Yang-Baxter equations. We also describe how to obtain classical observables by imposing reasonable boundaries conditions.
We suggest a new action for a ``dual'' gravity in a stringy $R$, $Q$ flux background. The construction is based on degree-$2$ graded symplectic geometry with a homological vector field. The structure we consider is non-canonical and features a curvature-free connection. It is known that the data of Poisson structures of degree $2$ with a Hamiltonian correspond to a Courant algebroid on $TM \oplus T^{*}M$, the bundle of generalized geometry. With the bracket for the Courant algebroid and a further bracket which resembles the Lie bracket of vector fields, we get a connection with non-zero curvat…
We study the geometrical meaning of higher-order terms in matrix models of Yang-Mills type in the semi-classical limit, generalizing recent results arXiv:1003.4132 to the case of 4-dimensional space-time geometries with general Poisson structure. Such terms are expected to arise e.g. upon quantization of the IKKT-type models. We identify terms which depend only on the intrinsic geometry and curvature, including modified versions of the Einstein-Hilbert action, as well as terms which depend on the extrinsic curvature. Furthermore, a mechanism is found which implies that the effective metric G o…
The recent nonlocal generalization of Einstein's theory of gravitation reduces in the Newtonian regime to a nonlocal and nonlinear modification of Poisson's equation of Newtonian gravity. The nonlocally modified Poisson equation implies that nonlocality can simulate dark matter. Observational data regarding dark matter provide limited information about the functional form of the reciprocal kernel, from which the original nonlocal kernel of the theory must be determined. We study this inverse problem of nonlocal gravity in the linear domain, where the applicability of the Fourier transform meth…
There are various generalizations of Einstein's theory of gravity (GR); one of which is the Einstein-Cartan (EC) theory. It modifies the geometrical structure of manifold and relaxes the notion of affine connection being symmetric. The theory is also called $U_4$ theory of gravitation; where the underlying manifold is not Riemannian. The non-Riemannian part of the space-time is sourced by the spin density of matter. Here mass and spin both play the dynamical role. We consider the minimal coupling of Dirac field with EC theory; thereby calling the full theory as Einstein-Cartan-Dirac (ECD) theo…
A mechanism for emergent gravity on brane solutions in Yang-Mills matrix models is exhibited. Newtonian gravity and a partial relation between the Einstein tensor and the energy-momentum tensor can arise from the basic matrix model action, without invoking an Einstein-Hilbert-type term. The key requirements are compactified extra dimensions with extrinsic curvature M^4 x K \subset R^D and split noncommutativity, with a Poisson tensor θ^{ab} linking the compact with the noncompact directions. The moduli of the compactification provide the dominant degrees of freedom for gravity, which are trans…
Motivated by generalized geometry, we discuss differential geometric structures on the total space $\mathfrak{T}M$ of the bundle $TM\oplus T^*M$, where $M$ is a differentiable manifold; $\mathfrak{T}M$ is called a big-tangent manifold. The vertical leaves of the bundle are para-Hermitian vector spaces. The big-tangent manifolds are endowed with canonical presymplectic, Poisson and 2-nilpotent structures. We discuss lifting processes from $M$ to $\mathfrak{T}M$. From the point of view of the theory of $G$-structures, the structure of a big-tangent manifold is equivalent with a suitable triple $…
Verlinde's proposal on the entropic origin of gravity is based strongly on the assumption that the equipartition law of energy holds on the holographic screen induced by the mass distribution of the system. However, from the theory of statistical mechanics we know that the equipartition law of energy does not hold in the limit of very low temperature. Inspired by the Debye model for the equipartition law of energy in statistical thermodynamics and adopting the viewpoint that gravitational systems can be regarded as a thermodynamical system, we modify Einstein field equations. We also perform t…
The Hamiltonian formulation of N-bein, Einstein-Cartan, gravity, using its first order form in any dimension higher than two, is analyzed. This Hamiltonian formulation allows to explicitly show where peculiarities of three dimensional case (\textit{A.M.Frolov et al, 0902.0856 [gr-qc]}) occur and make a conjecture, based on presented in this report results, that there is one general for \textit{all} dimensions characteristic of N-bein formulation of gravity: after elimination of second class constraints the algebra of Poisson brackets among remaining first class secondary constraints is the Poi…
A generalization of the embedding approach for d-dimensional gravity based upon p-brane theories is considered. We show that the D-dimensional p-brane coupled to an antisymmetric tensor field of rank (p+1) provides the dynamical basis for the description of d=(p+1) dimensional gravity in the isometric embedding formalism. ''Physical'' matter appears in such an approach as a manifestation of a D-dimensional antisymmetric tensor (generalized Kalb- Ramond) background. For the simplest case, the Lorentz harmonic formulation of the bosonic string in a Kalb-Ramond background and its relation to a fi…
The peculiarities of doing a canonical analysis of the first order formulation of the Einstein-Hilbert action in terms of either the metric tensor $g^{αβ}$ or the metric density $h^{αβ}= \sqrt{-g}g^{αβ}$ along with the affine connection are discussed. It is shown that the difference between using $g^{αβ}$ as opposed to $h^{αβ}$ appears only in two spacetime dimensions. Despite there being a different number of constraints in these two approaches, both formulations result in there being a local Poisson brackets algebra of constraints with field independent structure constants, closed off shell …
In this study, the effects of the generalized uncertainty principle on the theory of gravity are analyzed. Inspired by Verlinde's entropic gravity approach and using the modified Unruh temperature, the generalized Einstein field equations with cosmological constant are obtained and corresponding conservation law is investigated. The resulting conservation law of energy-momentum tensor dictates that the generalized Einstein field equations are valid in a very limited range of accelerations. Moreover, the modified Newton's law of gravity and the modified Poisson equation are derived. In a certai…
We construct consistent noncommutative (NC) deformations of the Randall-Sundrum spacetime that solve the NC Einstein equations with a non-trivial Poisson tensor depending on the fifth coordinate. In a class of these deformations where the Poisson tensor is exponentially localized on one of the branes (the NC-brane), we study the effects on bulk particles in terms of Lorentz-violating operators induced by NC-brane interactions. We sketch two models in which massive bulk particles mediate NC effects to an almost-commutative SM-brane, such that observables at high energy colliders are enhanced wi…
