In this paper, inspired by the ultraviolet deformation of the Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker geometry in loop quantum cosmology, we formulate an infrared-modified cosmological model. We obtain the associated deformed Friedmann and Raychaudhuri equations and we show that the late time cosmic acceleration can be addressed by the infrared corrections. As a particular example, we applied the setup to the case of matter dominated universe. This model has the same number of parameters as $Λ$CDM, but a dynamical dark energy generates in the matter dominated era at the late time. According to our model, as the universe expands, the energy density of the cold dark matter dilutes and when the Hubble parameter approaches to its minimum, the infrared effects dominate such that the effective equation of state parameter smoothly changes from $w_{_{\rm eff}}=0$ to $w_{_{\rm eff}}=-2$. Interestingly and nontrivially, the unstable de Sitter phase with $w_{_{\rm eff}}=-1$ is corresponding to $Ω_m=Ω_d =0.5$ and the universe crosses the phantom divide from the quintessence phase with $w_{_{\rm eff}}>-1$ and $Ω_m> Ω_d$ to the phantom phase with $w_{_{\rm eff}}<-1$ and $ Ω_m<Ω_d$ which shows that the model is observationally viable. The results show that the universe finally ends up in a big rip singularity for a finite time proportional to the inverse of the minimum of the Hubble parameter. Moreover, we consider the dynamical stability of the model and we show that the universe starts from the matter dominated era at the past attractor with $w_{_{\rm eff}}=0$ and ends up in a future attractor at the big rip with $w_{_{\rm eff}}=-2$.
We study the role of an invariant infra-red cutoff in the late time cosmological dynamics. This low energy cutoff originates from the existence of a minimal measurable uncertainty as a result of the curvature of background manifold, and can be encoded in an extended uncertainty relation. Inspired by black hole entropy-area relation, we extend the analysis to the thermodynamics of apparent horizon of the universe. By treating both the Newtonian and general relativistic cosmologies, we show that the contribution of infra-red cutoff in the equations of dynamics can be interpreted as an effective …

The present day accelerated expansion of the universe is naturally addressed within the Brans-Dicke theory just by using holographic dark energy model with inverse of Hubble scale as IR cutoff. It is also concluded that if the universe continues to expand, then one day it might be completely filled with dark energy.
Based on the formulation of the reconstruction for the k-essence model, which was recently proposed in arXiv:1001.0220 [hep-th], we explicitly construct cosmological model to unifying the late-time acceleration and the inflation in the early universe.
We consider 1+3 dimensional maximally symmetric Minkowski brane embedded in a 1+4 dimensional maximally symmetric Minkowski background. The resulting 1+3 dimensional effective field theory is of DBI (Dirac-Born-Infeld) Galileon type. We use this model to study the late time acceleration of the universe. We study the deviation of the model from the concordance ΛCDM behaviour. Finally we put constraints on the model parameters using various observational data.
We review the notion of holographic dark energy and assess its significance in the light of the well documented cosmic acceleration at the present time. We next propose a model of holographic dark energy in which the infrared cutoff is set by the Hubble scale. The model accounts for the aforesaid acceleration and, by construction, is free of the cosmic coincidence problem.
We consider a holographic dark energy model, in which both the CC energy density rho_Lambda and the Newton constant G_N are varying quantities, to study the problem of setting an effective field-theory IR cutoff. Assuming that ordinary matter scales canonically, we show that the continuity equation univocally fixes the IR cutoff, provided a law of variation for either rho_Lambda or G_N is known. Previous considerations on holographic dark energy disfavor the Hubble parameter as a candidate for the IR cutoff (for spatially flat universes), since in this case the ratio of dark energy to dark mat…
We present a cosmological model arising from a gravitational theory with an infinite tower of higher-order curvature invariants that can reproduce the entire evolution of the Universe: from inflation to late-time acceleration, without invoking an inflaton nor a cosmological constant. The theory is Einsteinian-like. The field equations for a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric are of second-order and can reproduce a late-time evolution that is consistent with the acceleration provided by the cosmological constant at low redshift. Our results force us to reinterpret the nature of dark ene…
Holographic dark energy with the Hubble radius as infrared cutoff has been considered as a candidate to explain the late-time cosmic acceleration and it can solve the coincidence problem. In this scenario, a non-zero equation of state is only possible if there is an interaction between dark energy and cold dark matter. In this paper, a set of phenomenological interactions is assumed and a detailed analysis of the possible values of the coupling constants is carried out, however the resulting matter power spectrum and cosmic microwave background temperature and polarization power spectra have a…
We investigate the implications of energy conditions on cosmological compactification solutions of the higher-dimensional Einstein field equations. It is known that the Strong Energy Condition forbids time-independent compactifications to de Sitter space but allows time-dependent compactifications to other (homogeneous and isotropic) expanding universes that undergo a {\it transient} period of acceleration. Here we show that the same assumptions allow compactification to FLRW universes undergoing {late-time} accelerated expansion; the late-time stress tensor is a perfect fluid but with a lower…
A central theme in cosmology is the perplexing fact that the Universe is undergoing an accelerating expansion. The latter, one of the most important and challenging current problems in cosmology, represents a new imbalance in the governing gravitational field equations. Several candidates, responsible for this expansion, have been proposed in the literature, in particular, dark energy models and modified gravity, amongst others. In this paper, we explore the possibility that the late-time cosmic acceleration is due to infra-red modifications of Einstein's theory of General Relativity, and revi…
We use three IR cutoffs, including the future event horizon, the Hubble and Granda-Oliveros (GO) cutoffs, to construct three holographic models of dark energy. Additionally, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe filled by a dark matter (DM) and a dark energy that interact with each other through a mutual sign-changeable interaction. Thereinafter, we address the evolution of the some cosmological parameters, such as the equation of state and dimensionless density parameters of dark energy as well as the deceleration parameter, during the cosmic evolution from the matter domina…
We present a novel approach to modified theories of gravity that consists of adding to the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian an f(R) term constructed a la Palatini. Using the respective dynamically equivalent scalar-tensor representation, we show that the theory can pass the Solar System observational constraints even if the scalar field is very light. This implies the existence of a long-range scalar field, which is able to modify the cosmological and galactic dynamics, but leaves the Solar System unaffected. We also verify the absence of instabilities in perturbations and provide explicit models w…
We present some cosmological models which unify the late and early-time acceleration eras with the radiation and the matter domination era, and we realize the cosmological models by using the theoretical framework of $F(R)$ gravity. Particularly, the first model unifies the late and early-time acceleration with the matter domination era, and the second model unifies all the evolution eras of our Universe. The two models are described in the same way at early and late times, and only the intermediate stages of the evolution have some differences. Each cosmological model contains two Type IV sin…
In this work we consider the entropy-corrected version of interacting holographic dark energy (HDE), in the non-flat universe enclosed by apparent horizon. Two corrections of entropy so-called logarithmic 'LEC' and power-law 'PLEC' in HDE model with apparent horizon as an IR-cutoff are studied. The ratio of dark matter to dark energy densities $u$, equation of state parameter $w_D$ and deceleration parameter $q$ are obtained. We show that the cosmic coincidence is satisfied for both interacting models. By studying the effect of interaction in EoS parameter, we see that the phantom divide may b…
The effects of noncommutativity on the phase space of a dilatonic cosmological model is investigated. The existence of such noncommutativity results in a deformed Poisson algebra between the minisuperspace variables and their momenta conjugate. For an exponential dilaton potential, the exact solutions in the commutative and noncommutative cases, are presented and compared. We use these solutions to address the late time acceleration issue of cosmic evolution.
We explore the effects of considering various infrared (IR) cutoffs, including the particle horizon, Ricci horizon and Granda-Oliveros (GO) cutoffs, on the properties of Tsallis holographic dark energy (THDE) model, proposed inspired by Tsallis generalized entropy formalism \cite{THDE}. Interestingly enough, we find that for the particle horizon as IR cutoff, the obtained THDE model can describe the accelerated universe. This is in contrast to the usual HDE model which cannot lead to an accelerated universe, if one consider the particle horizon as IR cutoff. We also investigate the cosmologica…
We investigate late time acceleration of the universe in higher dimensional cosmology. The content in the universe is assumed to exert pressure which is different in the normal and extra dimensions. Cosmologically viable solutions are found to exist for simple forms of the equation of state. The parameters of the model are fixed by comparing the predictions with supernovae data. While observations stipulate that the matter exerts almost vanishing pressure in the normal dimensions, we assume that, in the extra dimensions, the equation of state is of the form $P \propto \, ρ^{1 - γ}$. For approp…
We investigate the linearly and quadratically coupled cubic Galileon models that include linear potentials. These models may explain the late-time acceleration. In these cases, we need two equations of state parameter named the native and effective equations of state to test whether the universe is accelerating or not because there is coupling between the cold dark matter and Galileon. It turns out that there is no transition from accelerating phase to phantom phase in the future.
The review of basic cosmological properties of four-dimensional F(R)-gravity, including FRW equations of motion and its accelerating solutions, generalized fluid and scalar-tensor representation of the theory is done. Cosmological reconstruction equation is written and conditions for stability of cosmological solution are discussed. The overview of realistic F(R)-models unifying inflation with dark energy epoch is made. The avoidance of finite-time future singularities in such theories via the introduction of R^2-term is studied. New realistic non-singular F(R)-gravity unifying early-time infl…
Holography is expected as one of the promising descriptions of quantum general relativity. We present a model for a cosmological system involving two holographic screens and find that their equilibrium exactly yields a standard Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We discuss its cosmological implications by taking into account higher order quantum corrections and quantum nature of horizon evaporation. We will show that this model could give rise to a holographic inflation at high energy scales and realize a late-time acceleration in a unified approach. We test our model from the SN Ia observat…
A shift-symmetric Galileon model in presence of spacetime torsion has been constructed for the first time. This has been realized by localizing (or, gauging) the Galileon symmetry in flat spacetime in an appropriate manner. We have applied the above model to study the evolution of the universe at a cosmological scale. Interestingly, for a wide class of torsional structures we have shown that the model leads to late time cosmic acceleration. Furthermore, as torsion vanishes, our model reproduces the standard results.
In this paper we consider Chameleonic Generalized Brans--Dicke Cosmology in the framework of FRW universes. The bouncing solution and phantom crossing is investigated for the model. Two independent cosmological tests: Cosmological Redshift Drift (CRD) and distance modulus are applied to test the model with the observation.
A model of a universe without big bang singularity is presented, which displaysanearly inflationary period ending just before a phase transition to a deflationary epoch. The model produces enough heavy particles so as to reheat the universe at temperatures in the MeV regime. After the reheating, it smoothly matches the standard $Λ$CDM scenario.
We consider a scenario of modified gravity, which is generic to late-time acceleration, namely, acceleration in the Jordan frame and no acceleration in the Einstein frame. The possibility is realized by assuming an interaction between dark matter and the baryonic component in the Einstein frame which is removed by going to the Jordan frame using a disformal transformation giving rise to an exotic effective fluid responsible for causing phantom crossing at late times. In this scenario, past evolution is not distinguished from $Λ$CDM but late time dynamics is generically different due to the pre…
It is obtained that dark energy emerges from higher-derivative gravity with anon-linear terms proportional to $R^2$ and $R^3$ with $R$ being the Ricci scalar curvature. Interestingly, it is found that the universe begins with acceleration, which continues for a short period. Later on,it decelerates driven by radiation and subsequently by matter. Two components of dark energy are found here.In the early universe, dark energy mimics quintessence giving high vlue of initial density $\sim 10^{75} {\rm GeV}^4$ at Planck scale. But, in the late universe, dark energy behaves like phantom giving curre…
A new idea of deriving a cosmological term from an underlying theory has been proposed in order to explain the expansion history of the universe. We obtain the scale factor with this derived cosmological term and demonstrate that it reflects all the characteristics of the expanding universe in different era so as to result in a transition from inflation to late acceleration through intermediate decelerating phases by this single entity. We further discuss certain observational aspects of this paradigm.
We study Galileon scalar field model by considering the lowest order Galileon term in the lagrangian, $(\partial_μ ϕ)^2 \Boxϕ$ by invoking a field potential. We use Statefinder hierarchy to distinguish the light mass galileon models with different potentials amongst themselves and from the $Λ$CDM behaviour. The $Om$ diagnostic is applied to cosmological dynamics and observational constraints on the model parameters are studied using SN+Hubble+BAO data.
We consider a scenario of large-scale modification of gravity that does not invoke extra degrees of freedom but includes coupling between baryonic matter and dark matter in the Einstein frame. The total matter energy density follows the standard conservation, and evolution has the character of deceleration in this frame. The model exhibits interesting features in the Jordan frame realized by virtue of a disformal transformation where individual matter components adhere to standard conservation but gravity is modified. A generic parametrization of disformal transformation leaves thermal history…
In this paper we demonstrate that with vacuum $F(G)$ gravity it is possible to describe the unification of late and early-time acceleration eras with the radiation and matter domination era. The Hubble rate of the unified evolution contains two mild singularities, so called Type IV singularities, and the evolution itself has some appealing features, such as the existence of a deceleration-acceleration transition at late times. We also address quantitatively a fundamental question related to modified gravity models description of cosmological evolution: Is it possible for all modified gravity d…
In this paper, it is shown completely analytically that a spintessence model can very well serve the purpose of providing an early deceleration and the present day acceleration.
We study cosmological perturbations in the context of an interacting dark energy model, where the holographic dark energy with IR cutoff decays into the cold dark matter (CDM). For this purpose, we introduce three IR cutoffs of Hubble horizon, particle horizon, and future event horizon. Here we present small perturbations under the case that effective equation of state (EOS: $ω^{\rm eff}$) for the holographic energy density is determined to be the same negative constant as that for the CDM. Such new matter productions tend to dilute the density perturbations of CDM (matter contrast). For a dec…
In this Letter, by reconstructing the $Om$ diagnostic and the deceleration parameter $q$ from the latest Union2 Type Ia supernova sample with and without the systematic error along with the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and the cosmic microwave background (CMB), we study the cosmic expanding history, using the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) parametrization. We obtain that Union2+BAO favor an expansion with a decreasing of the acceleration at $z<0.3$. However, once the CMB data is added in the analysis, the cosmic acceleration is found to be still increasing, indicating a tension between …
We present a unified framework for the study of late time cosmic acceleration. Using methods of effective field theory, we show that existing proposals for late time acceleration can be subsumed in a single framework, rather than many compartmentalized theories. We construct the most general action consistent with symmetry principles, derive the background and perturbation evolution equations, and demonstrate that for special choices of our parameters we can reproduce results already existing in the literature. Lastly, we lay the foundation for future work placing phenomenological constraints …
The sequestering mechanism has been proposed as a remedy to the old cosmological constant problem of the non-gravitating vacuum energy in the matter sector. Here it is shown that an extension of this global constraint mechanism arises naturally from an averaging condition for residual cosmological constants produced in different patches of the Universe. The new mechanism naturally yields the small observed value that gives rise to cosmic acceleration at late times, hence, addressing the new cosmological constant problem. Hereby the halo model picture is adopted with all matter content ultimate…
We consider the behaviour of the cosmological acceleration for time-dependent hyperbolic and flux compactifications of M-theory, with an exponential potential. For flat and closed cosmologies it is seen that a positive acceleration is always transient for both compactifications. For open cosmologies, both compactifications can give at late times periods of positive acceleration. As a function of proper time this acceleration has a power law decay and can be either positive, negative or oscillatory.
We investigate the effect of the quadratic correction $αR^2$ and non-minimal coupling $ξϕ^2 R$ on a quintessence model with an exponential potential $V(ϕ) = M^4\exp(-λϕ)$ in the Palatini formulation of gravity. We use dynamical system techniques to analyze the attractor structure of the model and uncover the possible trajectories of the system. We find that the quadratic correction cannot play a role in the late time dynamics, except for unacceptably large values of the parameter $α$; although it can play a role at early times. We find viable evolutions, from a matter-dominated phase to an acc…
We consider light propagation in an inhomogeneous irrotational dust universe with vanishing cosmological constant, with initial conditions as in standard linear perturbation theory. A non-perturbative approach to the dynamics of such a universe is combined with a distance formula based on the Sachs optical equations. Then a numerical study implies a redshift-distance relation that roughly agrees with observations. Interpreted in the standard homogeneous setup, our results would appear to imply the currently accepted values for the Hubble rate and the deceleration parameter; furthermore there i…
We consider General Relativity with matter and radiation, one of these fluids being coupled to vacuum. We find that Universe dynamics starts by an inflation phase if the coupled fluid has a negative energy density at early time. Then, there is always a finite scale factor singularity but when vacuum and matter are coupled and matter density behaves like a negative radiation density. Moreover, the convergence to the LCDM model is clearly easier to reach when vacuum is coupled to matter rather than to radiation. Two classes of theories are studied to illustrate these results.
Braneworld models have been proposed as a possible solution to the problem of the accelerated expansion of the Universe. The idea is to dispense the dark energy (DE) and drive the late-time cosmic acceleration with a five-dimensional geometry. Here, we investigate a brane model with variable brane tension as a function of redshift called chrono-brane. We propose the polynomial $λ=(1+z)^{n}$ function inspired in tracker-scalar-field potentials. To constrain the $n$ exponent we use the latest observational Hubble data from cosmic chronometers, Type Ia Supernovae from the full JLA sample, baryon …
In the present work, an attempt has been made to explain the recent cosmic acceleration with two mutually interacting scalar fields, one being the Brans-Dicke scalar field and the other a quintessence scalar field. Conditions have been derived for which the quintessence scalar field has an early oscillation and it grows during a later time to govern the dynamics of the universe.
In this paper it has been shown that the neutrino bulk viscous stresses can give rise to the late time acceleration of the universe. It is found that a number of spatially flat FRW models with a negative deceleration parameter can be constructed using neutrino viscosity and one of them mimics a $Λ$CDM model. This does not require any exotic dark energy component or any modification of gravity.
In this research, we are interested in constraining the nonlinear interacting and noninteracting Tsallis holographic dark energy (THDE) with Ricci horizon cutoff by employing three observational datasets. To this aim, the THDE with Ricci horizon considering the noninteraction and nonlinear interaction terms will be fitted by the SNe Ia, SNe Ia+H(z), and SNe Ia+H(z)+GRB samples to investigate the Hubble ($H(z)$), dark energy equation of state ($ω_{DE}$), effective equation of state ($ω_{eff}$), and deceleration ($q$) parameters. Investigating the $H(z)$ parameter illustrates that our models are…
The effects of phase space deformations on Kalutza-Klein cosmology are studied. The deformation is introduced by modifying the symplectic structure of the minisuperspace variables. In the deformed model, we find an accelerating scale factor and therefore infer the existence of an effective cosmological constant from the phase space deformation parameter $β$.
In this work we have investigated the possibility of having a late time accelerated phase of the universe, suggested by recent supernova observation, in the context of Brans Dicke (BD) theory with a symmetry breaking potential and a matter field. We find that a perfect fluid matter field (pressureless and with pressure) cannot support this acceleration but a fluid with dissipative pressure can drive this late time acceleration. We have also calculated some cosmological parameters in our model to match with observations.
We study two cosmological models: A non-minimally coupled scalar field on brane world model and a minimally coupled scalar field on Lorentz invariance violation model. We compare some cosmological results in these scenarios. Also, we consider some types of Rip singularity solution in both models.
We study the coincidence problem of late cosmic acceleration by assuming that the present ratio between dark matter and dark energy is a slowly varying function of the scale factor. As dark energy component we consider two different candidates, first a quintessence scalar field, and then a tachyon field. In either cases analytical solutions for the scale factor, the field and the potential are derived. Both models show a good fit to the recent magnitude-redshift supernovae data. However, the likelihood contours disfavor the tachyon field model as it seems to prefer a excessively high value for…
Assuming a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology with a single perfect fluid, we propose a pressure-density ratio that evolves as a specific universal function of the scale parameter. We show that such a ratio can indeed be consistent with several observational constraints including those pertaining to late-time accelerated expansion. Generic dynamical scalar field models of Dark energy (with quadratic kinetic terms in their Lagrange density) are shown to be in accord with the proposed equation-of-state ratio, provided the current matter density parameter $Ω_{m0} < 0.23$ - a value {\it not…
Quintessential inflation refers to scenarios in which a single scalar field is used to describe inflation and late-time acceleration. This review is dedicated to the framework of quintessential inflation, with a focus on the building blocks of formalism. Consistent unification of inflation and late time acceleration using a single scalar field asks for a shallow field potential initially followed by steep behaviour thereafter and shallow again around the present epoch. The requirement of non-interference of scalar field with thermal history dictates steep nature of potential in the post-inflat…
In this letter, we study the cosmological dynamics of steeper potential than exponential. Our analysis shows that a simple extension of an exponential potential allows to capture late-time cosmic acceleration and retain the tracker behavior. We also perform statefinder and $Om$ diagnostics to distinguish dark energy models among themselves and with $Λ$CDM. In addition, to put the observational constraints on the model parameters, we modify the publicly available CosmoMC code and use an integrated data base of baryon acoustic oscillation, latest Type Ia supernova from Joint Light Curves sample …
We study accelerating dynamics from Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ gravity in a simplified conformal approach without matter. In our work (A.N. Makarenko, S. Odintsov, G.J. Olmo, Phys.Lett. B734 (2014) 36, [arXiv:1403.2850]) it was derived eventually any Dark Energy cosmology from above theory. In this Letter we apply the technique of (arXiv:1403.2850) to show that Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ gravity may describe very realistic universe admitting the unification of early-time inflation with late-time acceleration. Specifically, the evolution with periodic as well as non-periodic behavior is considered with possibi…
We propose a model to describe the late-time cosmic acceleration in the context of the constant-roll model. By considering a coupling between massive neutrinos and the quintessence, the onset of evolution of the quintessence is related to the neutrinos' behavior. When the neutrinos become non-relativistic, the dark energy density increases from zero and results in late-time cosmic acceleration alleviating the coincidence problem. The quintessence potential is such that it evolves under the constant-roll condition giving rise to persistent late-time acceleration.
In this paper, we consider the stability of cylindrical wormholes during evolution of universe from inflation to late time acceleration epochs. We show that there are two types of cylindrical wormholes. The first type is produced at the corresponding point where k black F-strings are transited to BIon configuration. This wormhole transfers energy from extra dimensions into our universe, causes inflation, loses it's energy and vanishes. The second type of cylindrical wormhole is created by a tachyonic potential and causes a new phase of acceleration. We show that wormhole parameters grow faster…
