We consider acceleration-assisted entanglement harvesting as evidenced in correlations between two accelerating Unruh detectors coupled to a scalar field. We elaborate on earlier studies, which in a stationary phase approximation calculated the entanglement dependence on two parameters $c_1 = κL$, and $c_2 = κΩσ^2$, where $κ$ describes the detector's acceleration, $L$ their separation and $Ω$ the energy splitting in a pair of two state Unruh detectors. Here, we go beyond the stationary phase approximation by performing a numerical calculation of entanglement harvesting, allowing us to present the dependence on $c_3 = σΩ$, where $σ$ denotes the half width of a Gaussian window function specifying the field-detector interaction, and show agreement with earlier work the large $c_3$ limit.
We make a detailed comparison between entanglement harvesting for uniformly accelerated detectors in vacuum and static ones in a thermal bath at the Unruh temperature and find that, for a small energy gap relative to the Heisenberg energy of the detectors, static detectors in the thermal bath can harvest more entanglement and possess a comparatively larger harvesting-achievable range than the uniformly accelerated ones; however, as the energy gap grows sufficiently large, the uniformly accelerated detectors are instead likely to harvest more entanglement and possess a relatively larger harvest…
Transport phenomena in photosynthetic systems have attracted a great deal of attention due to their potential role in devising novel photovoltaic materials. In particular, energy transport in light-harvesting complexes is considered quite efficient due to the balance between coherent quantum evolution and decoherence, a phenomenon coined Environment-Assisted Quantum Transport (ENAQT). Although this effect has been extensively studied, its behavior is typically described in terms of the decoherence's strength, namely weak, moderate or strong. Here, we study the ENAQT in terms of quantum correla…
Recently it has been demonstrated that it is possible to harvest quantum resources other than entanglement from a coherent scalar field. Employing time-dependent perturbation theory, we present a complete analysis of the conditions under which a spatially extended Unruh-DeWitt detector coupled to the proper time derivative of the field can harvest coherence for any initial state of the field, as well as the energy cost that is required for each harvest. By studying harvesting under repeatable extractions it is proven that when the detector interacts with the field through a delta coupling cohe…
We study the properties of the transition probability and entanglement harvesting phenomenon for circularly accelerated detectors locally interacting with massless scalar fields. The dependence of the transition probability on the parameters associated with the circular motion is first analyzed in detail. By a cross-comparison with the situation of the uniformly accelerated motion, we obtain that the transition probability and the possible thermalization behavior for detectors rotating with an extremely large circular radius are analogous to that for uniformly accelerated detectors, but for a …
We investigate the effects of field temperature $T^{(f)}$ on the entanglement harvesting between two uniformly accelerated detectors. For their parallel motion, the thermal nature of fields does not produce any entanglement, and therefore, the outcome is the same as the non-thermal situation. On the contrary, $T^{(f)}$ affects entanglement harvesting when the detectors are in anti-parallel motion, i.e., when detectors $A$ and $B$ are in the right and left Rindler wedges, respectively. While for $T^{(f)}=0$ entanglement harvesting is possible for all values of $A$'s acceleration $a_A$, in the p…
We predict the enhanced light harvesting of a protein-pigment complex when assembled to a quantum dot (QD) antenna. Our prototypical nanoassembly setup is composed of a Fenna-Mattews-Olson system hosting 8 Bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) a dyes, and a near-infrared emitting CdSe$_x$Te$_{(1-x)}$/ZnS alloy-core/shell nanocrystal. BChl a has two wide windows of poor absorption in the green and orange-red bands, precisely where most of the sunlight energy lies. The selected QD is able to collect sunlight efficiently in a broader band and funnel its energy by a (non-radiative) Förster resonance energy t…
We address two-level systems arranged in ring configurations affected by static disorder. In particular we investigate the role of dephasing in the transport of an excitation along the ring. We compare the efficiency of the transfer process on isotropic rings and on biomimetic rings modelled according to the structure of light-harvesting complexes. Our analysis provides a simple but clear and interesting example of how an interplay between the coherent dynamics of the system and the incoherent action of the environment can enhance the transfer capabilities of disordered lattices.
We study, in the framework of the entanglement harvesting protocol, the entanglement harvesting of both a pair of inertial and uniformly accelerated detectors locally interacting with vacuum massless scalar fields subjected to a perfectly reflecting plane boundary. We find that the presence of the boundary generally degrades the harvested entanglement when two detectors are very close to the boundary. However, when the distance between detectors and the boundary becomes comparable to the interaction duration parameter, the amount of the harvested entanglement approaches a peak, which even goes…
We propose a new form for the quantum master equation in the theory of open quantum systems. This new formalism allows one to describe the dynamics of two-level systems moving along different hyperbolic trajectories with distinct proper times. In the Born-Markov approximation, we consider a quantum massless scalar field coupled with two-level systems. Starting from a separable state we show the emergence of entanglement harvesting. For different proper accelerations we verify also the entanglement sudden death.
We explore whether acceleration assists entanglement harvesting for a pair of uniformly accelerated detectors in three different acceleration scenarios, i.e., parallel, anti-parallel and mutually perpendicular acceleration, both in the sense of the entanglement harvested and harvesting-achievable separation between the two detectors. Within the framework of entanglement harvesting protocols and the Unruh-DeWitt model of detectors locally interacting with massless scalar fields via a Gaussian switching function with an interaction duration parameter, we find that, in the sense of the entangleme…
We study the influence of the environment-induced interatomic interaction, which is usually neglected, on the entanglement dynamics of two uniformly accelerated atoms coupled with fluctuating massless scalar fields in the Minkowski vacuum. When the two-atom system is initially prepared in a separable state such that the two atoms are in the ground and excited states respectively, the environment-induced interatomic interaction assists entanglement generation, in the sense that the parameter space of acceleration and interatomic separation that allows entanglement generation is enlarged, the ra…
Transition-metal-oxide (TMO) heterostructures are promising candidates for building photon-harvesting devices which can exploit optimal quantum transport of charge excitations generated by light absorption. Here we address the explicit role of an electric field on the quantum transport properties of photo-excitations subject to dephasing in one-dimensional chains coupled to a continuum of states acting as a sink. We show that the average transfer time to the sink is optimized for suitable values of both the coupling strength to the sink and the electric field, thus fully exploiting the coheren…
The interplay between exctions and vibrations is considered to be a key factor in determining the exciton transfer properties in light-harvesting exciton transfer complexes. Here we study this interplay theoretically in a model for exciton transport, composed of two chromophores coupled to an exciton source and sink in the presence of vibrations. We consider two cases, that show qualitatively distinct transport features. In the first, the vibrations are global and affect the two chromophores simultaneously. In the second case, the vibrations are localized on each chromophore. For global vibrat…
