In this review article three promising aspects of top quark production are discussed: the charge asymmetry in top quark pair production, the search for resonant top quark pair production, and electroweak single top quark production. First, an overview of the theoretical predictions of top quark pair and single top quark production is given. Then, for each topic the general analysis strategy and improvements are exemplarily explained using selected analyses and are put into the context of the global status at the beginning of LHC Run II and progress in this field. The example analyses discussed in more detail in this article use data from the LHC experiment CMS and for the charge asymmetry studies also data from the Tevatron experiment CDF have been used.
Different from other multiple top-quark productions, triple top-quark production requires the presence of both flavor violating neutral interaction and flavor conserving neutral interaction. We describe the interaction of triple top-quarks and up-quark in terms of two dimension-6 operators; one can be induced by a new heavy vector resonance, the other by a scalar resonance. Combining same-sign top-quark pair production and four top-quark production, we explore the potential of the 13 TeV LHC on searching for the triple top-quark production.
Proton-proton collisions at the LHC provide the ground for tests of the strong interactions through the study of the production mechanisms for quarkonia and hadrons containing charm or beauty flavours. This review addresses recent results and includes studies of kinematical correlations, polarisation and associated production. QCD-based models are briefly discussed and compared to measurements.
The status of theoretical predictions for top-quark pair production at hadron colliders is reviewed, focusing on the total cross section, differential distributions, and the description of top-quark production and decay including off-shell effects.
In this talk we present the current status of the theoretical description of the production of top-quark pairs at the LHC, detailing recent progress for predictions at the stable-top level as well as for predictions that include the decay of the top quarks.
These proceedings present the first observation of single top-quark production associated with a photon using the full Run2 proton-proton dataset collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.
Latest results on inclusive top-quark pair production cross-sections are presented using collision data collected by ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC. Inclusive and differential measurements of top-quark pair production cross-sections from ATLAS and CMS are presented in the resolved and boosted kinematic regions. The cross-sections are measured as a function of various kinematic observables of the top quarks, the jets and leptons of the event final state.
