We present a substantial generalisation of a classical result by Lie on integrability by quadratures. Namely, we prove that all vector fields in a finite-dimensional transitive and solvable Lie algebra of vector fields on a manifold can be integrated by quadratures.
The theory of quadrature domains for harmonic functions and the Hele-Shaw problem of the fluid dynamics are related subjects of the complex variables and mathematical physics. We present results generalizing the above subjects for elliptic PDEs with variable coefficients emerging in a class of the free-boundary problems for viscous flows in non-homogeneous media. Such flows posses an infinite number of conservation laws, whose special cases may be viewed as quadrature identities for solutions of variable-coefficient elliptic PDEs. If such PDEs are gauge equivalent to the Laplace equation (gaug…
A notion of a particular integrability is introduced when two operators commute on a subspace of the space where they act. Particular integrals for one-dimensional (quasi)-exactly-solvable Schroedinger operators and Calogero-Sutherland Hamiltonians for all roots are found. In the classical case some special trajectories for which the corresponding particular constants of motion appear are indicated.
The first part of this paper explains what super-integrability is and how it differs in the classical and quantum cases. This is illustrated with an elementary example of the resonant harmonic oscillator. For Hamiltonians in "natural form", the kinetic energy has geometric origins and, in the flat and constant curvature cases, the large isometry group plays a vital role. We explain how to use the corresponding first integrals to build separable and super-integrable systems. We also show how to use the automorphisms of the symmetry algebra to help build the Poisson relations of the correspondin…
A Hamilton-Jacobi theory for general dynamical systems, defined on fibered phase spaces, has been recently developed. In this paper we shall apply such a theory to contact Hamiltonian systems, as those appearing in thermodynamics and on geodesic flows in fluid mechanics. We first study the partial and complete solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi Equation (HJE) related to these systems. Then we show that, for a given contact system, the knowledge of what we have called a complete pseudo-isotropic solution ensures the integrability by quadratures of its equations of motion. This extends to contact …
We review applications of theory of classical and quantum integrable systems to the free-boundary problems of fluid mechanics as well as to corresponding problems of statistical mechanics. We also review important exact results obtained in the theory of multi-fractal spectra of the stochastic models related to the Laplacian growth: Schramm-Loewner and Levy-Loewner evolutions.
This contributed conference proceeding reviews some results about a system of a few identical particles with spin trapped in one-dimensional potentials and experiencing two-body interactions. The focus is on how symmetry, integrability, and solvability depend on the trap shape, two-body interaction, the number of particles, and the number of spin components. A series of comments are presented that characterize the minimal symmetries possible for a composite system constructed from interacting single particles, with special focus on the contact interaction. For five and more particles with inte…
The non-commutative integrability (NCI) is a property fulfilled by some Hamiltonian systems that ensures, among other things, the exact solvability of their corresponding equations of motion. The latter means that an "explicit formula" for the trajectories of these systems can be constructed. Such a construction rests mainly on the so-called Lie theorem on integrability by quadratures. It is worth mentioning that, in the context of Hamiltonian systems, the NCI has been for around 40 years, essentially, the unique criterium for exact solvability expressed in the terms of first integrals (contai…
We study the integrability of the general two-dimensional Zakharov-Shabat systems, which appear in application of the inverse scattering transform (IST) to an important class of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) called integrable systems, in the meaning of differential Galois theory, i.e., their solvability by quadrature. It becomes a key for obtaining analytical solutions to the PDEs by using the IST. For a wide class of potentials, we prove that they are integrable in that meaning if and only if the potentials are reflectionless. It is well known that for such potentials partic…
After a short review of the classical Lie theorem, a finite dimensional Lie algebra of vector fields is considered and the most general conditions under which the integral curves of one of the fields can be obtained by quadratures in a prescribed way will be discussed, determining also the number of quadratures needed to integrate the system. The theory will be illustrated with examples andbn an extension of the theorem where the Lie algebras are replaced by some distributions will also be presented.
We analyze one particle, two-center quantum problems which admit separation of variables in prolate spheroidal coordinates, a natural restriction satisfied by the H$_2^+$ molecular ion. The symmetry operator is constructed explicitly. We give the details of the Hamiltonian reduction of the 3D system to a 2D system with modified potential that is separable in elliptic coordinates. The potentials for which there is double-periodicity of the Schrödinger operator in the space of prolate spheroidal coordinates, including one for the H$_2^+$ molecular ion, are indicated. We study possible potentials…
In this paper we extend the Lie theory of integration in two different ways. First we consider a finite dimensional Lie algebra of vector fields and discuss the most general conditions under which the integral curves of one of the fields can be obtained by quadratures in a prescribed way. It turns out that the conditions can be expressed in a purely algebraic way. In a second step we generalize the construction to the case in which we substitute the Lie algebra of vector fields by a module (generalized distribution). We obtain much larger class of integrable systems replacing standard concepts…
Quasi-exactly solvable Rabi model is investigated within the framework of the Bargmann Hilbert space of analytic functions ${\cal B}$. On applying the theory of orthogonal polynomials, the eigenvalue equation and eigenfunctions are shown to be determined in terms of three systems of monic orthogonal polynomials. The formal Schweber quantization criterion for an energy variable $x$, originally expressed in terms of infinite continued fractions, can be recast in terms of a meromorphic function $F(z) = a_0 + \sum_{k=1}^\infty {\cal M}_k/(z-ξ_k)$ in the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$ with {\em real si…
An Exactly-Solvable (ES) potential on the sphere $S^n$ is reviewed and the related Quasi-Exactly-Solvable (QES) potential is found and studied. Mapping the sphere to a simplex it is found that the metric (of constant curvature) is in polynomial form, and both the ES and the QES potentials are rational functions. Their hidden algebra is $gl_n$ in a finite-dimensional representation realized by first order differential operators acting on $RP^n$. It is shown that variables in the Schrödinger eigenvalue equation can be separated in spherical coordinates and a number of the integrals of the second…
Right-invariant geodesic flows on manifolds of Lie groups associated with 2-cocycles of corresponding Lie algebras are discussed. Algebra of integrals of motion for magnetic geodesic flows is considered and necessary and sufficient condition of integrability in quadratures is formulated. Canonic forms for 2-cocycles of all 4-dimensional Lie algebras are given and integrable cases among them are separated.
We consider some examples of quantum super-integrable systems and the associated nonlinear extensions of Lie algebras. The intimate relationship between super-integrability and exact solvability is illustrated. Eigenfunctions are constructed through the action of the commuting operators. Finite dimensional representations of the quadratic algebras are thus constructed in a way analogous to that of the highest weight representations of Lie algebras.
Defects which are predominant in a realistic model, usually spoil its integrability or solvability. We on the other hand show the exact integrability of a known sine-Gordon field model with a defect (DSG), at the classical as well as at the quantum level based on the Yang-Baxter equation. We find the associated classical and quantum R-matrices and the underlying q-algebraic structures, analyzing the exact lattice regularized model. We derive algorithmically all higher conserved quantities $C_n, n=1,2,...$ of this integrable DSG model, focusing explicitly on the contribution of the defect point…
