A search for new physics is performed using events that contain one or more jets, no isolated leptons, and a large transverse momentum imbalance, as measured through the MT2 variable, which is an extension of the transverse mass in events with two invisible particles. The results are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, and that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns. The observed event yields in the data are consistent with predictions for the standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted using simplified models of supersymmetry and are expressed in terms of limits on the masses of potential new colored particles. Assuming that the lightest neutralino is stable and has a mass less than about 500 GeV, gluino masses up to 1550-1750 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, depending on the gluino decay mechanism. For the scenario of direct production of squark-antisquark pairs, top squarks with masses up to 800 GeV are excluded, assuming a 100% branching fraction for the decay to a top quark and neutralino. Similarly, bottom squark masses are excluded up to 880 GeV, and masses of light-flavor squarks are excluded up to 600-1260 GeV, depending on the degree of degeneracy of the squark masses.
I review here the latest measurements related to vector boson production in association with light or heavy flavor jets at the Tevatron and at the LHC. The methods to estimate the W+jets and Z+jets background in top-quark analyses are also presented.
A measurement is presented for the energy flow of minimum bias events in the forward region (3.15 <|η|< 4.9, where ηis the pseudorapidity) of the CMS detector at the LHC for center-of-mass energies sqrt(s) = 0.9 TeV, 2.36 TeV and 7 TeV. The measurement is compared to Monte Carlo simulations, which use a model of multiparton interactions for the underlying event. In addition, production of forward jets was studied for the very first pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9 TeV at LHC.
Searches for high-mass resonances in the dijet invariant mass spectrum with one or two jets identified as $b$-jets are performed using an integrated luminosity of $3.2$ fb$^{-1}$ of proton--proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of anomalous phenomena is observed in the data, which are used to exclude, at 95% credibility level, excited $b^{*}$ quarks with masses from 1.1 TeV to 2.1 TeV and leptophobic $Z'$ bosons with masses from 1.1 TeV to 1.5 TeV. Contributions of a Gaussian signal shape wit…

The data is collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 5 and 19 fb$^{-1}$, respectively. A study on the hadronic activity between the two tagging jets is also presented.
A study of the substructure of jets with transverse momentum greater than 400 GeV/c produced in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and recorded by the CDF II detector is presented. The distributions of the jet mass, angularity, and planar flow are measured for the first time in a sample with an integrated luminosity of 5.95 fb^-1. The observed substructure for high mass jets is consistent with predictions from perturbative quantum chromodynamics.
We measure the ratio of cross sections, $σ(p\bar{p}\rightarrow Z+2~b~\text{jets})$/$σ(p\bar{p}\rightarrow Z+\text{2 jets})$, for associated production of a $Z$ boson with at least two jets with transverse momentum $p_T^{\rm jet} > 20$ GeV and pseudorapidity $|η^{\rm jet}| < 2.5$. This measurement uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the \DO experiment in Run II of Fermilab's Tevatron \ppbar Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The measured integrated ratio of $0.0236\pm0.0032\left(\mbox{stat}\right)\pm0.0035\left(\mbox{syst}\right)$ is i…
The CDF and D0 collaborations performed a comprehensive study of the production of vector bosons, W and Z, in association with energetic jets. Understanding the W/Z + jets and W/Z + c, b-jets processes is of paramount importance for the top quark physics, for the Higgs boson measurements, and for many new physics searches. In this contribution the most recent measurements of the associated production of jets and vector bosons in Run II at the Tevatron are presented. The measurements are compared to different perturbative QCD predictions and to several Monte Carlo generators.
This paper discusses a study of tower and cell energy ranges of a hadronic calorimeter for a 100 TeV pp collider. The dynamic energy ranges were estimated using Standard Model jets with transverse momenta above 20 TeV. The simulations were performed using the PYTHIA Monte Carlo model after a fast detector simulation tuned to the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter. We estimate the maximum energy range of towers and cells as a function of lateral cell sizes for several extreme cases of jet transverse energy.
A comprehensive overview of the latest aspects of jet physics in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$1.96 TeV is presented. In particular, measurements of the inclusive jet production, dijet and multi-jet production, and jet substructure studies are discussed.
The production of events with multiple high transverse momentum particles including charged leptons and jets is measured, using 1.04 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector during the first half of 2011 at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. No excess beyond Standard Model expectations is observed, and upper limits on the fiducial cross sections for non-Standard Model production of these final states are set. Using models for string ball and black hole production and decay, exclusion contours are determined as a function of mass threshold and the fundamental gravity scale.
A comparison of the differential cross sections for the processes Z/gamma* + jets and photon (gamma) + jets is presented. The measurements are based on data collected with the CMS detector at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The differential cross sections and their ratios are presented as functions of pt. The measurements are also shown as functions of the jet multiplicity. Differential cross sections are obtained as functions of the ratio of the Z/gamma* pt to the sum of all jet transverse momenta and of the ratio of the Z/gamma* pt to the…
The production of $\mathrm{K^0_S}$, $Λ$ and $Ξ$ is measured in jets and underlying events in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with ALICE detectors. The corresponding $Λ/\mathrm{K^0_S}$ and $Ξ/Λ$ ratios are presented as a function of transverse momentum. The hard scatterings are tagged by charged-particle jets ,which are reconstructed with the anti-$k_\mathrm{T}$ algorithm using a resolution parameter $R$ = 0.4. The flow-like correlations and the enhanced production of multi-strange hadrons in small colliding systems may be described by soft components.
A search for new resonances decaying into jets containing b-hadrons in $pp$ collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented in the dijet mass range from 0.57 TeV to 7 TeV. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of up to 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ collected in 2015 and 2016 at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. No evidence of a significant excess of events above the smooth background shape is found. Upper cross-section limits and lower limits on the corresponding signal mass parameters for several types of signal hypotheses are provided at 95% CL. In addition, 95% CL upper limits are set on the c…

The analysis is based on pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The results, corrected for detector effects, are compared with various theoretical predictions. In general, the predictions at higher orders in perturbati…
A search is performed for heavy Majorana neutrinos (N) using an event signature defined by two same-sign charged leptons of the same flavour and two jets. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 inverse femtobarns of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess of events is observed beyond the expected standard model background and therefore upper limits are set on the square of the mixing parameter, abs(V[ell N]) squared, for ell = e, mu, as a function of heavy Majorana-neutrino mass. These are the fi…
The DØ and CDF experiments have each collected more than 8 fb-in Run II of Fermilab's Tevatron, and have many recent search results which use up to 5.2 fb-1 . Here I summarize the results of a variety of searches for physics beyond the Standard Model with an emphasis on searches for very exotic phenomena. I will present the status of model-inspired searches for several signatures of supersymmetry, as well as several other searches for several "hidden- valley" inspired models, all of which contain photons and jets in the final state.

The upper end of the distribution of the scalar sum of the transverse momenta of leptons and jets is sensitive to the production of high-mass objects. No excess of events beyond Standard Model predictions is observed. Exclusion limits are set…

No excess of events is observed above the expected standard model backgrounds, which are all estimated from the data. Exclusion limits are presented for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. Cross section limits are also presented using simplified mod…

The analysis is performed with 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. Events are required to contain at least two lepton-jets. This study finds no statistically significant deviation from predictions of the Standard Model and places 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the contribution of new phenomena beyond the SM, incuding SUSY-p…

Upper limits are presented for the production cross section times branching fraction of top quark-antiquark resonances for masses from 750 to 3000 GeV. In particular, the existence of a leptophobic topcolor particle Z' is excluded at the 95% confidence level for resona…
Weak scale supersymmetry is one of the best motivated and studied Standard Model extensions. It predicts the existence of new heavy coloured particles called squarks and gluinos which are the supersymmetric partners of the quarks and gluons, respectively. The poster summarises results on inclusive searches for supersymmetric squarks and gluinos in events containing jets and missing transverse momentum without leptons. The searches use the full data sample recorded in 2012 at $\sqrt{s}$=8~TeV centre-of-mass energy by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.

The data sample, collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$, with a fiducial volume of $p_\mathrm{T}$ $>$ 30 GeV and $|η|$ $<$ 2.4 for the jets, where $p_\mathrm{T}$ and $η$ represent transverse momentum and pseudorapidity, respectively. The Z boson candidates come f…
A search for physics beyond the standard model is performed with events having one or more hadronically decaying tau leptons, highly energetic jets, and large transverse momentum imbalance. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2011. The number of observed events is consistent with predictions for standard model processes. Lower limits on the mass of the gluino in supersymmetric models are determined.
We present the first search for pair production of isolated jets of charged leptons in association with a large imbalance in transverse energy in ppbar collisions using 5.8 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. No excess is observed above Standard Model background, and the result is used to set upper limits on the production cross section of pairs of supersymmetric chargino and neutralino particles as a function of "dark-photon" mass, where the dark photon is produced in the decay of the lightest supersymmetric particle.
A search for production of supersymmetric particles in final states containing jets, missing transverse momentum, and at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton is presented. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in sqrt(s) = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation was observed in 2.05 fb-1 of data. The results are interpreted in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models with Mmess = 250 TeV, N5 = 3, mu > 0, and Cgrav = 1. The production of supersymmetric particles is excluded at 95% C.…
We report measurements of the inclusive transverse momentum pT distribution of centrally produced kshort, kstar(892), and phi(1020) mesons up to pT = 10 GeV/c in minimum-bias events, and kshort and lambda particles up to pT = 20 GeV/c in jets with transverse energy between 25 GeV and 160 GeV in pbar p collisions. The data were taken with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. We find that as pT increases, the pT slopes of the three mesons (kshort, kstar, and phi) are similar, and the ratio of lambda to kshort as a function of pT in minimum-bias events becomes simil…
The number of charged particles inside jets is a widely used discriminant for identifying the quark or gluon nature of the initiating parton and is sensitive to both the perturbative and non-perturbative components of fragmentation. This paper presents a measurement of the average number of charged particles with $p_\text{T}>500$ MeV inside high-momentum jets in dijet events using 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded with the ATLAS detector in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV collisions at the LHC. The jets considered have transverse momenta from 50 GeV up to and beyond 1.5 TeV. The reconstructe…
We present the first measurements of the ratios of cross sections, σ(ppbar -> Z+c jet)/σ(ppbar -> Z+jet) and σ(ppbar -> Z+c jet)/σ(ppbar -> Z+b jet) for the associated production of a Z boson with at least one charm or bottom quark jet. Jets have transverse momentum p_{T}>20 GeV and pseudorapidity |η|<2.5. These cross section ratios are measured differentially as a function of jet and $Z$ boson transverse momenta, based on 9.7 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The measurements show significant deviations from per…

The observed cross section for WW+WZ production is 20.2 +/- 4.5 pb, consistent with the SM prediction of 16.1 +/- 0.9 pb. The probability for background fluctuations to produce an excess equal to or larger than that observed is estimated to be 5.4e-6, corresponding to a significance of 4.4 standard deviatio…
Several models of physics beyond the Standard Model predict neutral particles that decay into final states consisting of collimated jets of light leptons and hadrons (so-called "lepton jets"). The per-event yield of the highest transverse momentum charged particle and charged-particle jet, integrated above a given pt(min) threshold starting at pt(min) = 0.8 and 1 GeV, respectively, is studied in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. The particles and the jets are measured in the pseudorapidity ranges abs(eta) < 2.4 and 1.9, respectively. The data are sensitive to the momentum scale at which parton densities saturate in the proton, to multiple partonic interactions, and to other key aspects of the transition between the soft and hard QCD regimes in hadronic collisions.
Recent searches performed by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron for diboson production in final states containing heavy-flavor jets are reported. The searches for WZ and ZZ can be regarded as the ultimate benchmark for the corresponding searches for a low-mass Higgs boson in the WH and ZH final states. Using the exact same techniques as for those Higgs boson searches, the D0 collaboration measured a cross section for WZ/ZZ production of 1.13 +/- 0.36 times its expectation in the standard model, with a diboson signal significance of 3.3 standard deviations (2.9 expected).
A search for events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least two tau leptons has been performed using 2 fb^-1 of proton-proton collision data at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed and a 95% CL visible cross section upper limit for new phenomena is set. A 95% CL lower limit of 32 TeV is set on the GMSB breaking scale Lambda independent of tan(beta). These limits provide the most stringent tests to date in a large part of the considered parameter space.

This study finds no statistically significant deviation from the Standard Mod…
A top quark mass measurement is performed using 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ of LHC proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV. The measurement uses the $\mathrm{t\overline{t}}$ all-jets final state. A kinematic fit is performed to reconstruct the decay of the $\mathrm{t\overline{t}}$ system and suppress the multijet background. Using the ideogram method, the top quark mass ($m_\mathrm{t}$) is determined, simultaneously constraining an additional jet energy scale factor (JSF). The resulting value of $m_\mathrm{t}$ = 172.34 $\pm$ 0.20 (stat+JSF) $\pm$ 0.70 (syst) GeV …
