We study the asymptotic behavior of a family of algebraic geometry codes which are 4-quasi transitive linear codes. We prove that this family is asymptotically good over many prime fields using towers of algebraic function fields.

A note on asymptotically good extensions in which infinitely many primes split completely

Let p be a prime number, and let K be a number field. For p=2, assume moreover K totally imaginary. In this note we prove the existence of asymptotically good extensions L{K of cohomological dimension 2 in which infinitely many primes split completely. Our result is inspired by a recent work of Hajir, Maire, and Ramakrishna [7].

Asymptotically exact heuristics for prime divisors of a^k+b^k

Let N_{a,b}(x) count the number of primes p<=x with p dividing a^k+b^k for some k>=1. It is known that asymptotically N_{a,b}(x) grows like c(a,b)x/log x for some rational number c(a,b) that depends in a rather intricate way on a and b. A simple heuristic formula for N_{a,b}(x) is proposed and it is proved that it is asymptotically exact, i.e. has the same asymptotic behaviour as N_{a,b}(x). Connections with Ramanujan sums and character sums are discussed.

The n-th prime asymptotically

A new derivation of the classic asymptotic expansion of the n-th prime is presented. A fast algorithm for the computation of its terms is also given, which will be an improvement of that by Salvy (1994). Realistic bounds for the error with $\li^{-1}(n)$, after having retained the first m terms, for $1\le m\le 11$, are given. Finally, assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, we give estimations of the best possible $r_3$ such that, for $n\ge r_3$, we have $p_n> s_3(n)$ where $s_3(n)$ is the sum of the first four terms of the asymptotic expansion.

Isomorphism classes of Drinfeld modules over finite fields

We study isogeny classes of Drinfeld $A$-modules over finite fields $k$ with commutative endomorphism algebra $D$, in order to describe the isomorphism classes in a fixed isogeny class. We study when the minimal order $A[π]$ of $D$ occurs as an endomorphism ring by proving when it is locally maximal at $π$, and show that this happens if and only if the isogeny class is ordinary or $k$ is the prime field. We then describe how the monoid of fractional ideals of the endomorphism ring $\mathcal{E}$ of a Drinfeld module $ϕ$ up to $D$-linear equivalence acts on the isomorphism classes in the isogeny…

A Note on an Asymptotically Good Tame Tower

The explicit construction of function fields tower with many rational points relative to the genus in the tower play a key role for the construction of asymptotically good algebraic-geometric codes. In 1997 Garcia, Stichtenoth and Thomas [6] exhibited two recursive asymptotically good Kummer towers over any non-prime field. Wulftange determined the limit of one tower in his PhD thesis [13]. In this paper we determine the limit of another tower [14].

Simply transitive quaternionic lattices of rank 2 over F_q(t) and a non-classical fake quadric

We construct an infinite series of simply transitive irreducible lattices in PGL_2(F_q((t))) \times PGL_2(F_q((t))) by means of a quaternion algebra over F_q(t). The lattices depend on an odd prime power q = p^r and a parameter τ in F_q^* different from 1, and are the fundamental group of a square complex with just one vertex and universal covering T_{q+1} \times T_{q+1}, a product of trees with constant valency q + 1. On Noether's rationality problem for cyclic groups over $\mathbb{Q}$

Let $p$ be a prime number. Let $C_p$, the cyclic group of order $p$, permute transitively a set of indeterminates $\{ x_1,\ldots ,x_p \}$. The distribution of the variance of primes in arithmetic progressions

Hooley conjectured that the variance V(x;q) of the distribution of primes up to x in the arithmetic progressions modulo q is asymptotically x log q, in some unspecified range of q\leq x.
