We consider the valuation problem of an (insurance) company under partial information. Therefore we use the concept of maximizing discounted future dividend payments. The firm value process is described by a diffusion model with constant and observable volatility and constant but unknown drift parameter. For transforming the problem to a problem with complete information, we derive a suitable filter. The optimal value function is characterized as the unique viscosity solution of the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. We state a numerical procedure for approximating both the optimal dividend strategy and the corresponding value function. Furthermore, threshold strategies are discussed in some detail. Finally, we calculate the probability of ruin in the uncontrolled and controlled situation.
We introduce a longevity feature to the classical optimal dividend problem by adding a constraint on the time of ruin of the firm. We extend the results in \cite{HJ15}, now in context of one-sided Lévy risk models. We consider de Finetti's problem in both scenarios with and without fix transaction costs, e.g. taxes. We also study the constrained analog to the so called Dual model. To characterize the solution to the aforementioned models we introduce the dual problem and show that the complementary slackness conditions are satisfied and therefore there is no duality gap. As a consequence the o…
This paper considers an optimal dividend distribution problem for an insurance company where the dividends are paid in a foreign currency. In the absence of dividend payments, our risk process follows a spectrally negative Lévy process. We assume that the exchange rate is described by a an exponentially Lévy process, possibly containing the same risk sources like the surplus of the insurance company under consideration. The control mechanism chooses the amount of dividend payments. The objective is to maximise the expected dividend payments received until the time of ruin and a penalty payment…
We consider the optimal dividend problem under a habit formation constraint that prevents the dividend rate to fall below a certain proportion of its historical maximum, the so-called drawdown constraint. This is an extension of the optimal Duesenberry's ratcheting consumption problem, studied by Dybvig (1995) [Review of Economic Studies 62(2), 287-313], in which consumption is assumed to be nondecreasing. Our problem differs from Dybvig's also in that the time of ruin could be finite in our setting, whereas ruin was impossible in Dybvig's work. We formulate our problem as a stochastic control…
In this paper we assume the insurance wealth process is driven by the compound Poisson process. The discounting factor is modelled as a geometric Brownian motion at first and then as an exponential function of an integrated Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. The objective is to maximize the cumulated value of expected discounted dividends up to the time of ruin. We give an explicit expression of the value function and the optimal strategy in the case of interest rate following a geometric Brownian motion. For the case of the Vasicek model, we explore some properties of the value function. Since we ca…
In this note we find a formula for the supremum distribution of spectrally positive or negative Lévy processes with a broken linear drift. This gives formulas for ruin probabilities in the case when two insurance companies (or two branches of the same company) divide between them both claims and premia in some specified proportions. As an example we consider gamma Lévy process, $α$-stable Lévy process and Brownian motion. Moreover we obtain identities for Laplace transform of the distribution for the supremum of Lévy processes with randomly broken drift and on random intervals.

In this paper, we study two optimisation settings for an insurance company, under the constraint that the terminal surplus at a deterministic and finite time $T$ follows a normal distribution with a given mean and a given variance. In both cases, the surplus of the insurance company is assumed to follow a Brownian motion with drift. First, we allow the insurance company to pay dividends and seek to maximise the expected discounted dividend payments or to minimise the ruin probability under the terminal distribution constraint. Here, we find explicit expressions for the optimal strategies in bo…
