The necessary and sufficient conditions for a class of functions $f:\mathbb{Z}_2^n \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}_q$, where $q \geq 2$ is an even positive integer, have been recently identified for $q=4$ and $q=8$. In this article we give an alternative characterization of the generalized Walsh-Hadamard transform in terms of the Walsh spectra of the component Boolean functions of $f$, which then allows us to derive sufficient conditions that $f$ is generalized bent for any even $q$. The case when $q$ is not a power of two, which has not been addressed previously, is treated separately and a suitable representation in terms of the component functions is employed. Consequently, the derived results lead to generic construction methods of this class of functions. The main remaining task, which is not answered in this article, is whether the sufficient conditions are also necessary. There are some indications that this might be true which is also formally confirmed for generalized bent functions that belong to the class of generalized Maiorana-McFarland functions (GMMF), but still we were unable to completely specify (in terms of necessity) gbent conditions.
In this paper we characterize (octal) bent generalized Boolean functions defined on $\BBZ_2^n$ with values in $\BBZ_8$. Moreover, we propose several constructions of such generalized bent functions for both $n$ even and $n$ odd.
In this paper, we present some new nonexistence results on $(m,n)$-generalized bent functions, which improved recent results. More precisely, we derive new nonexistence results for general $n$ and $m$ odd or $m \equiv 2 \pmod{4}$, and further explicitly prove nonexistence of $(m,3)$-generalized bent functions for all integers $m$ odd or $m \equiv 2 \pmod{4}$. The main tools we utilized are certain exponents of minimal vanishing sums from applying characters to group ring equations that characterize $(m,n)$-generalized bent functions.
In this paper we define the (edge-weighted) Cayley graph associated to a generalized Boolean function, introduce a notion of strong regularity and give several of its properties. We show some connections between this concept and generalized bent functions (gbent), that is, functions with flat Walsh-Hadamard spectrum. In particular, we find a complete characterization of quartic gbent functions in terms of the strong regularity of their associated Cayley graph.
A Type IV-II Z4-code is a self-dual code over Z4 with the property that all Euclidean weights are divisible by eight and all codewords have even Hamming weight. In this paper we use generalized bent functions for a construction of self-orthogonal codes over Z4 of length $2^m$, for $m$ odd, $m \geq 3$, and prove that for $m \geq 5$ those codes can be extended to Type IV-II Z4-codes. From that family of Type IV-II Z4-codes, we obtain a family of self-dual Type II binary codes by using Gray map. We also consider the weight distributions of the obtained codes and the structure of the supports of t…
In a recent survey, Schmidt compiled equivalences between generalized bent functions, group invariant Butson Hadamard matrices, and abelian splitting relative difference sets. We establish a broader network of equivalences by considering Butson matrices that are cocyclic rather than strictly group invariant. This result has several applications; for example, to the construction of Boolean functions whose expansions are generalized partially bent functions, including cases where no bent function can exist.

It is known that partial spreads is a class of bent partitions. In \cite{AM2022Be,MP2021Be}, two classes of bent partitions whose forms are similar to partial spreads were presented. In \cite{AKM2022Ge}, more bent partitions $Γ_{1}, Γ_{2}, Γ_{1}^{\bullet}, Γ_{2}^{\bullet}, Θ_{1}, Θ_{2}$ were presented from (pre)semifields, including the bent partitions given in \cite{AM2022Be,MP2021Be}. In this paper, we investigate the relations between bent partitions and vectorial dual-bent functions. For any prime $p$, we show that one can generate certain bent partitions (called bent partitions satisfying…

Bent functions of the form $\mathbb{F}_2^n\rightarrow\mathbb{Z}_q$, where $q\geqslant2$ is a positive integer, are known as generalized bent (gbent) functions. Gbent functions for which it is possible to define a dual gbent function are called regular. A regular gbent function is said to be self-dual if it coincides with its dual. In this paper we explore self-dual gbent functions for even $q$. We consider several primary and secondary constructions of such functions. It is proved that the numbers of self-dual and anti-self dual gbent functions coincide. We give necessary and sufficient condit…
In this paper, we discuss when a class function on a finite group is a bent function. We have found a necessary condition for a class function on a finite abelian group to be bent. Also, we have found a necessary and sufficient condition for a class function on a finite cyclic group to be bent.
We study generalized regular bent functions using a representation by bent rectangles, that is, special matrices with restrictions on rows and columns. We describe affine transformations of bent rectangles, propose new biaffine and bilinear constructions, study partitions of a vector space into affine planes of the same dimension and use such partitions to build bent rectangles. We illustrate the concept of bent rectangles by examples for the Boolean case.

The purpose of this paper is to give explicit constructions of vectorial hyper-bent functions in the $\cP\cS_{ap}^{\#}$ class. It seems that the explicit constructions were so far known only for very special cases. To this end, we present a sufficient and necessary condition of this family of vectorial functions to be hyper-bent. The conditions are expressed in terms of group ring. Using this characterization, explicit constructions of vectorial hyper-bent functions of the $\cP\cS_{ap}^{\#}$ class via balanced functions are proposed. Furthermore, exact number of vectorial hyper-bent functions …
Our main result is a generalized Dillon-type theorem, giving graph-theoretic conditions which guarantee that a $p$-ary function in an even number of variables is bent, for $p$ a prime number greater than 2. The key condition is that the component Cayley graphs associated to the values of the function are strongly regular, and either all of Latin square type, or all of negative Latin square type. Such a Latin or negative Latin square type bent function is regular or weakly regular, respectively. Its dual function has component Cayley graphs with the same parameters as those of the original func…

In 1982, Opsut showed that the competition number of a line graph is at most two and gave a necessary and sufficient condition for the competition number of a line graph being one. In this note, we generalize this result to the competition numbers of generalized line graphs, that is, we show that the competition number of a generalized line graph is at most two, and give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the competition number of a generalized line graph being one.
Generalized pseudostandard words were introduced by de Luca and De Luca in 2006. In comparison to the palindromic and pseudopalindromic closure, only little is known about the generalized pseudopalindromic closure and the associated generalized pseudostandard words. In this paper we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for their periodicity over binary and ternary alphabet. More precisely, we describe how the directive bi-sequence of a generalized pseudostandard word has to look like in order to correspond to a periodic word. We state moreover a conjecture concerning a necessary and su…
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a generalized Bott manifold to be Fano or weak Fano. As a consequence we characterize Fano Bott manifolds.
