The Lang-Firsov Hamiltonian, a well-known solvable model of interacting fermion-boson system with sideband features in the fermion spectral weight, is generalized to have the time-dependent fermion-boson coupling constant. We show how to derive the two-time Green's function for the time-dependent problem in the adiabatic limit, defined as the slow temporal variation of the coupling over the characteristic oscillator period. The idea we use in deriving the Green's function is akin to the use of instantaneous basis states in solving the adiabatic evolution problem in quantum mechanics. With such "adiabatic Green's function" at hand we analyze the transient behavior of the spectral weight as the coupling is gradually tuned to zero. Time-dependent generalization of a related model, the spin-boson Hamiltonian, is analyzed in the same way. In both cases the sidebands arising from the fermion-boson coupling can be seen to gradually lose their spectral weights over time. Connections of our solution to the two-dimensional Dirac electrons coupled to quantized photons are discussed.
Non-equilibrium Green's function theory for non-adiabatic effects in quantum transport [Kershaw and Kosov, J.Chem. Phys. 2017, 147, 224109 and J. Chem. Phys. 2018, 149, 044121] is extended to the case of interacting electrons. We consider a general problem of quantum transport of interacting electrons through a central region with dynamically changing geometry. The approach is based on the separation of time scales in the non-equilibrium Green's functions and the use of Wigner transformation to solve the Kadanoff-Baym equations. The Green's functions and correlation self-energy are non-adiabat…
We study a system of two non-interacting quantum wires with fermions of opposite chirality with a point contact junction at the origin across which tunneling can take place when an arbitrary time-dependent bias between the wires is applied. We obtain the exact dynamical non-equilibrium Green function by solving Dyson's equation analytically. Both the space-time dependent two and four-point functions are written down in a closed form in terms of simple functions of position and time. This allows us to obtain, among other things, the I-V characteristics for an arbitrary time-dependent bias. Our …
We consider a finite quantum system under slow driving and weakly coupled to thermal reservoirs at different temperatures. We present a systematic derivation of the quantum master equation for the density matrix and the out-of-time-order correlators. We start from the microscopic Hamiltonian and we formulate the equations ruling the dynamics of these quantities by recourse to the Schwinger-Keldysh non-equilibrium Green's function formalism, performing a perturbative expansion in the coupling between the system and the reservoirs. We focus on the adiabatic dynamics, which corresponds to conside…
We develop nonequilibribrium Green's function based transport theory, which includes effects of nonadiabatic nuclear motion in the calculation of the electric current in molecular junctions. Our approach is based on the separation of slow and fast timescales in the equations of motion for the Green's functions by means of the Wigner representation. Time derivatives with respect to central time serves as a small parameter in the perturbative expansion enabling the computation of nonadiabatic corrections to molecular Green's functions. Consequently, we produce series of analytic expressions for …
With the rapidly increasing integration density and power density in nanoscale electronic devices, the thermal management concerning heat generation and energy harvesting becomes quite crucial. Since phonon is the major heat carrier in semiconductors, thermal transport due to phonons in mesoscopic systems has attracted much attention. In quantum transport studies, the nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF) method is a versatile and powerful tool that has been developed for several decades. In this review, we will discuss theoretical investigations of thermal transport using the NEGF approach f…
The effect of green and ultraviolet laser light on Ba$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$TiO$_3$/LaMnO$_3$ heterostructure electrical resistance was studied. In 80-200 K range illumination induces transient resistance component at ~15% of the steady-state value, the time constant associated with the transient component is ~12 s. The negative photoresistance effect is found under green, infrared and ultraviolet illumination.
We present a theory of molecular motors based on the Ehrenfest dynamics for the nuclear coordinates and the adiabatic limit of the Kadanoff-Baym equations for the current-induced forces. Electron-electron interactions can be systematically included through many-body perturbation theory, making the nonequilibrium Green's functions formulation suitable for first-principles treatments of realistic junctions. The method is benchmarked against simulations via real-time Kadanoff-Baym equations, finding an excellent agreement. Results on a paradigmatic model of molecular motor show that correlations …
Merging Features from Green's Functions and Time Dependent Density Functional Theory: A Route to the Description of Correlated Materials out of Equilibrium?
We present a unified approach to study continuous measurement based quantum thermal machines in static as well as adiabatically driven systems. We investigate both steady state and transient dynamics for the time-independent case. In the adiabatically driven case, we show how measurement based thermodynamic quantities can be attributed geometric characteristics. We also provide the appropriate definition for heat transfer and dissipation owing to continous measurement in the presence and absence of adiabatic driving. We illustrate the aforementioned ideas and study the phenomena of refrigerati…
