Homotopy Invariant Commutative Algebra over fields

These notes illustrates the power of formulating ideas of commutative algebra in a homotopy invariant form. They can then be applied to derived categories of rings or ring spectra. These ideas are powerful in classical algebra, in representation theory of groups, in classical algebraic topology and elsewhere. The notes grew out of a series of lectures given during the `Interactions between Representation Theory, Algebraic Topology and Commutative Algebra' (IRTATCA) at the CRM (Barcelona) in Spring 2015.

On simplicial commutative algebras with Noetherian homotopy

In this paper, a strategy is developed studying a simplicial commutative algebra A whose zeroth homotopy group is a Noetherian ring B and whose higher homotopy groups are finite over B. The strategy replaces A with a connected simplicial supplemented k(q)-algebra, for each prime ideal q in B, which preserves much of the Andre-Quillen homology of A. Universal spaces of two-cell complexes and their exponent bounds

Let $P^{2n+1}$ be a two-cell complex which is formed by attaching a $(2n+1)$--cell to a $2m$--sphere by a suspension map. We construct a universal space $U$ for $P^{2n+1}$ in the category of homotopy associative, homotopy commutative $H$--spaces. By universal we mean that $U$ is homotopy associative, homotopy commutative, and has the property that any map $f\colon P^{2n+1}\lra Y$ to a homotopy associative, homotopy commutative $H$--space $Y$ extends to a uniquely determined $H$--map $\bar{f}\colon U\lra Y$. Nilpotency in the homotopy of simplicial commutative algebras

In this paper, we study simplicial commutative algebras with finite André-Quillen homology. Here we restrict our focus to simplicial algebras having characteristic 2. Our aim is to find a generalization of results established by the author. Our goal is to replace the finiteness condition on homotopy with a weaker condition expressed in terms of nilpotency for the action of the homotopy operations. Derived completions in stable homotopy theory

We construct a notion of derived completion which applies to homomorphisms of commutative S-algebras. We study the relationship of the construction with other constructions of completions, and prove various invariance properties. Semi-steady non-commutative crepant resolutions via regular dimer models

A consistent dimer model gives a non-commutative crepant resolution (= NCCR) of a $3$-dimensional Gorenstein toric singularity. In particular, it is known that a consistent dimer model gives a nice class of NCCRs called steady if and only if it is homotopy equivalent to a regular hexagonal dimer model. Inspired by this result, we introduce the notion of semi-steady NCCRs, and show a consistent dimer model gives a semi-steady NCCR if and only if it is homotopy equivalent to a regular dimer model.

On Simplicial Commutative Algebras with Finite Andre-Quillen Homology

L. Avramov, following D. Quillen, posed a conjecture to the effect that if $R \to A$ is a homomorphism of Noetherian rings then the André-Quillen homology on the category of A-modules satisfies: $D_{s}(A|R;-) = 0$ for $s\gg 0$ implies $D_{s}(A|R;-) = 0$ for s>2. Excellent rings in transchromatic homotopy theory

The purpose of this note is to verify that several basic rings appearing in transchromatic homotopy theory are Noetherian excellent normal domains and thus amenable to standard techniques from commutative algebra. In particular, we show that the coefficients of iterated localizations of Morava $E$-theory at the Morava $K$-theories are normal domains and also that the coefficients in the transchromatic character map for a fixed group form a normal domain.

Let $R$ be a ring with identity and $\C(R)$ denote the category of complexes of $R$-modules. In this paper we study the homotopy categories arising from projective (resp. injective) complexes as well as Gorenstein projective (resp. Gorenstein injective) modules. Complete intersections and rational homotopy theory

We investigate various homotopy invariant formulations of commutative algebra in the context of rational homotopy theory. The main subject is the complete intersection condition, where we show that a growth condition implies a structure theorem and that modules have multiply periodic resolutions.

Andre-Quillen homology of commutative algebras

These notes are an introduction to basic properties of Andre-Quillen homology for commutative algebras. They are an expanded version of my lectures at the summer school: Interactions between homotopy theory and algebra, University of Chicago, 26th July - 6th August, 2004. The aim is to give fairly complete proofs of characterizations of smooth homomorphisms and of locally complete intersection homomorphisms in terms of vanishing of Andre-Quillen homology. The choice of the material, and the point of view, are guided by these goals.

Complete intersections and equivalences with categories of matrix factorizations

We prove that one can realize certain triangulated subcategories of the singularity category of a complete intersection as homotopy categories of matrix factorizations. Moreover, we prove that for any commutative ring and non-zerodivisor, the homotopy category of matrix factorizations embeds into the homotopy category of totally acyclic complexes of finitely generated projective modules over the factor ring.
