Modern parton distribution function fits require an accurate treatment of heavy quark mass effects. In this contribution, we discuss how the FONLL general-mass variable flavour number scheme can be extended to allow for the possibility of a fitted charm PDF. We present a first estimate of the impact of a fitted charm contribution in the FONLL structure functions, and we discuss the development towards including a fitted charm PDF in the NNPDF framework.
The cross section for inclusive charm production by a low-energy antiproton beam is calculated using the parton model and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD. For an antiproton beam with a momentum of 15 GeV, the charm cross section at next-to-leading order in the QCD coupling constant changes by more than an order of magnitude as the charm quark mass is varied from 1.3 to 1.7 GeV. The variations can be reduced by demanding that the same value of the charm quark mass give the measured charm cross sections for fixed-target experiments with a proton beam. The resulting estimate for the charm …
We present a detailed investigation on the intrinsic charm content in a light meson within the 't Hooft model, namely, the two-dimensional QCD in large $N_c$ limit. The intrinsic charm parton distribution function (PDF) of a light meson, which first arises at order $N_c^{-1}$, is explicitly expressed in terms of the 't Hooft wave functions of the light meson and an infinite towers of excited charmed mesons. We also derive the functional forms from the two-dimensional counterparts of the meson cloud model (MCM) and Brodsky-Hoyer-Peterson-Sakai (BHPS) model. We then make a quantitative compariso…
It is shown that the difference between the c-quark proton structure functions calculated in the k_T-factorization approach using different unintegrated gluon distribution functions is the same order as the difference between results obtained in the parton model and in the k_T-factorization approach.
The Bessel-inspired behavior of parton densities at small x, obtained in the case of the flat initial conditions for DGLAP evolution equations, is used in the fixed flavor scheme to analyze precise H1+ZEUS combined data on the structure function F2.
We investigate the charm sector of the nucleon structure phenomenologically, using the most up-to-date global QCD analysis. Going beyond the common assumption of purely radiatively generated charm, we explore possible degrees of freedom in the parton parameter space associated with nonperturbative (intrinsic) charm in the nucleon. Specifically, we explore the limits that can be placed on the intrinsic charm (IC) component, using all relevant hard-scattering data, according to scenarios in which the IC has a form predicted by light-cone wave function models; or a form similar to the light sea-q…
We study the impact of new open charm muoproduction data from COMPASS and preliminary W production data from STAR on NNPDFpol1.0, the first unbiased set of polarized parton distributions recently delivered by the NNPDF Collaboration and based on inclusive Deep-Inelastic Scattering data only. The information contained in the new data sets is incorporated in our Monte Carlo parton determination via Bayesian reweighting, a method based on statistical inference which avoids the need for a global refitting. We explicitly show to which extent COMPASS and STAR data can improve our knowledge of gluon …
We investigate the possibility of a (sizable) nonperturbative contribution to the charm parton distribution function (PDF) in a nucleon, theoretical issues arising in its interpretation, and its potential impact on LHC scattering processes. The "fitted charm" PDF obtained in various QCD analyses contains a process-dependent component that is partly traced to power-suppressed radiative contributions in DIS and is generally different at the LHC. We discuss separation of the universal component of the nonperturbative charm from the rest of the radiative contributions and estimate its magnitude in…
We calculate $c\bar{c}c\bar{c}$ and $b\bar{b}b\bar{b}$ production cross section in Double Parton Scattering (DPS) processes at the energies of LHC. In our calculation we include saturation effects in the gluon distribution. For charm production, our results confirm the prediction of a previous work in which saturation effects were neglected, namely that at the energies of LHC charm production in DPS processes becomes comparable with charm production in SPS. We also estimate the production of $c\bar{c}b\bar{b}$ in DPS. Our results indicate that at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV half of the total amount of b…
We propose the study of unpolarized transverse momentum dependent gluon parton distributions as well as the effect of linearly polarized gluons on transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ production within the framework of transverse momentum dependent factorization employing color evaporation model (CEM) in unpolarized proton-proton collision. We estimate the transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ at LHCb, RHIC and AFTER energies using TMD evolution formalism.
Recent accurate data on F_2(x,Q) and on F_2^c(x,Q) from HERA at small-x require a more precise treatment of charm production in the global QCD analysis of parton distributions. We improve on existing global analyses by implementing the leptoproduction formalism of Aivazis et al. which represents a natural generalization of the conventional zero mass QCD parton framework to include heavy quark mass effects. We also perform analyses based on the fixed-flavor-number scheme, which is widely used in the literature, and demonstrate their uses and limitations. We discuss the implications of the impro…
We compare the numerical predictions for heavy quark production in high energy hadron collisions of the conventional QCD parton model and the $k_T$-factorization approach (semihard theory). The total production cross sections, one-particle rapidity and $p_T$ distributions as well as two-particle correlations are considered. The difference in the predictions of the two approaches is not very large, while the shapes of the distributions are slightly different.
The possibility of a (sizable) nonperturbative contribution to the charm parton distribution function (PDF) in a nucleon is investigated together with theoretical issues arising in its interpretation. Results from the global PDF analysis are presented. The separation of the universal component of the nonperturbative charm from the rest of the radiative contributions is discussed and the potential impact of a nonperturbative charm PDF on LHC scattering processes is illustrated. An estimate of nonperturbative charm magnitude in the CT14 and CT14HERA2 global QCD analyses at the next-to-next-to le…
In this article, we propose a novel channel for phenomenological studies of the double-parton scattering (DPS) based upon associated production of charm $c\bar{c}$ and bottom $b\bar{b}$ quark pairs in well-separated rapidity intervals in ultra-peripheral high-energy proton-nucleus collisions. This process provides a direct access to the double-gluon distribution in the proton at small-$x$ and enables one to test the factorised DPS pocket formula. We have made the corresponding theoretical predictions for the DPS contribution to this process at typical LHC energies and beyond and we compute the…
Open charm production during the equilibration of a gluon dominated parton plasma is calculated, with both the time-dependent temperature and parton densities given by a set of rate equations. Including pre-thermal production, the total enhancement of open charm production over the initial gluon fusion depends sensitively on the initial parton density and the effective temperature. The dependence of the pre-thermal charm production on the space-momentum correlation in the initial parton phase-space distribution is also discussed.
In this work, we present a new investigation about the impact of intrinsic charm (IC) on the physical observables, in particular, on the heavy structure function $F_2^c$. Since IC distribution is dominant at large Bjorken variable $x$, normally, it is expected that it can be explored only at large $x$. But, by studying the correlation of the charm density in the proton with $F_2^c$, we are going to show that the IC component can also be effective at low $x$. To investigate further, we perform three QCD global analyses of parton distribution functions (PDFs), by including the EMC $F_2^c$ data t…
The systematic treatment of heavy quark mass effects in DIS in current CTEQ global analysis is summarized. Applications of this treatment to the comparison between theory and experimental data on DIS charm production are described. The possibility of intrinsic charm in the nucleon is studied. The issue of determining the charm mass in global analysis is discussed.
We discuss charm $D^0 D^0$ meson-meson pair production in the forward rapidity region related to the LHCb experimental studies at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV. We consider double-parton scattering mechanisms of double $c \bar c$ production and subsequent standard $cc \to D^{0}D^{0}$ scale-independent hadronization as well as new double $g$ and mixed $g c\bar c $ production mechanisms with $gg \to D^{0}D^{0}$ and $gc \to D^{0}D^{0}$ scale-dependent hadronization. The new scenario with gluon fragmentation components results also in a new single-parton scattering mechanism of $gg$ production which is also …
We study the inclusive hadroproduction of D^0, D^+, D^star+, and D_s^+ mesons at leading order in the parton Reggeization approach endowed with universal fragmentation functions fitted to $e^+e^-$ annihilation data from CERN LEP1. We have described $D$-meson transverse momentum distributions measured in the central region of rapidity by the CDF Collaboration at Tevatron (|y|<1) and ALICE Collaboration at LHC (|y|<0.5) within uncertainties and without free parameters, using Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated gluon distribution function in a proton. The forward D-meson production (|y|>2.0) measur…
We discuss production of open charm mesons in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The cross section for inclusive production of $c \bar c$ pairs is calculated within the $k_{\perp}$-factorization approach in which a major part of higher-order corrections is belived to be effectively included. We use and test the applicability of several unintegrated gluon distributions. Numerical results of the $k_{\perp}$-factorization approach are compared to NLO pQCD collinear predictions. Inclusive differential distributions in transverse momentum and (pseudo)rapidity of several charmed mesons are present…
We discuss hadroproduction of open charmed mesons ($D^0$, $D^{\pm}$, $D^{\pm}_{S}$) at the LHC energy $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. The cross section for inclusive production of $c \bar c$ pairs is calculated within the $k_{\perp}$-factorization (or high-energy factorization) approach which effectively includes higher-order corrections. Results of the $k_{\perp}$-factorization approach are compared to NLO parton model predictions. The hadronization of charm quarks is included with the help of the Peterson fragmentation functions. Inclusive differential distributions in (pseudo)rapidity and transverse mo…
In this work, a new set of parton distribution functions taking into account the intrinsic charm (IC) contribution is presented. We focus on the impact of the EMC measurements on the large $x$ charm structure function as the strongest evidence for the intrinsic charm when combined with the HERA, SLAC and BCDMS data. The main goal of this paper is the simultaneous determination of the intrinsic charm probability ${P}_{c{\bar c/p}}$ and strong coupling $α_s$. This allows us to study the interaction of these two quantities as well as the influence on the PDFs in the presence of IC contributions. …
The DGLAP and CCFM approaches to perturbative QCD evolution have been investigated by examining correlations of charmed hadron pairs in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. The theoretical models are compared to the data taken by the LHCb experiment. Differences in the parton kinematics between the two approaches are discussed. In general a model incorporating NLO diagrams matched to parton showers describes the data best.
Neutrino induced deep inelastic charm production off strange sea partons in the nucleon is studied in the framework of the MSbar fixed flavor factorization scheme. The momentum (z) distributions of the produced D mesons as calculated in the next-to-leading order QCD analysis are presented and compared to their leading order counterparts. Perturbative stability within this formalism is demonstrated and the compatibility of recent next-to-leading order (NLO) strange quark distributions with available dimuon data is investigated. Our NLO (MSbar) results provide, for the first time, the tools requ…
Measurements of mesons containing charm or bottom quarks at high transverse momentum (P_T) constitute an interesting set of probes for the nature of the interaction of hard partons with a QCD medium as created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion (A-A) collisions. Not only can D and B mesons to a reasonable accuracy be assumed to represent the hadronization of a b or c quark after passage through the medium, i.e. they explicitly reflect quark-medium interaction, but also their interaction physics is expected to be different from light partons traversing a medium: The quark mass restricts radiation p…
We present results of our theoretical investigation of double-parton scattering (DPS) effects in production of heavy flavour mesons (charm and bottom). We discuss production of charm-bottom and bottom-bottom meson-meson pairs in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The calculation of DPS mechanism is performed within factorized ansatz where each parton scattering is calculated in the framework of the $k_T$-factorization. The hadronization is done with the help of independent parton fragmentation picture. For completeness we compare results for double- and single-parton scattering (SPS). As in …
We investigate charm production in an equilibrated quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. Effective quark and gluon masses are introduced from thermal QCD calculations. Assuming a Bjorken-type longitudinal expansion and including the influence of temperature dependent masses on the expansion, we determine the total number of c\bar{c} pairs produced in the quark-gluon plasma phase. We calculate the charm production rate at leading order with massive gluons and quarks and compare our result to charm production by massless partons. We consider two different scenarios…
We study the possibility of intrinsic (non-perturbative) charm in parton distribution functions (PDF) of the proton, within the context of the CT10 next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) global analysis. Three models for the intrinsic charm (IC) quark content are compared: (i) $\hat{c}(x) = 0$ (zero-IC model); (ii) $\hat{c}(x)$ is parametrized by a valence-like parton distribution (BHPS model); (iii) $\hat{c}(x)$ is parametrized by a sea-like parton distribution (SEA model). In these models, the intrinsic charm content, $\hat{c}(x)$, is included in the charm PDF at the matching scale $Q_c=m_c=1.…
We present first results for the $2 \to 4$ single-parton scattering $g g \to c \bar c c \bar c$ subprocess for the first time fully within the $k_t$-factorization approach. In this calculation we have used the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated gluon distribution which effectively includes some class of higher-order gluon emissions, and an off-shell matrix element squared calculated using recently developed techniques. The results are compared with our earlier result obtained within the collinear-factorization approach. Only slightly larger cross sections are obtained than in the case of the co…
We calculate several differential distributions for the production of charm and dijets. Both single-parton scattering (SPS) and double-parton scattering (DPS) contributions are calculated in the $k_T$-factorization approach. The Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated parton distributions are used in our calculations. Relatively low cuts on jet transverse momenta are imposed to enhance the double-parton scattering mechanism contribution. We find dominance of the DPS contribution over the SPS one. We have found regions of the phase space where the SPS contribution is negligible compared to the DPS co…
At LHCb, proton parton distribution functions (PDFs) can be studied in a unique phase space complementary to that accessible by ATLAS and CMS, corresponding to low and high values of Bjorken-$x$. The measurements of vector boson production in the forward region, with and without an associated jet, are presented. These measurements can be used to constrain the proton PDFs, and in particular, the production of a $Z$ boson in association with a $c$-jet can be studied to measure the intrinsic charm content of the proton.
Leading charm hadrons produced in hadron-nucleus interactions cannot be adequately described within the parton fusion model. Recent results on charm baryon production in $Σ^- A$ interactions at 330 GeV with the WA89 detector disagree with fusion predictions. Intrinsic heavy quark pairs in the $Σ^-(dds)$ wavefunction provide a simple mechanism for producing fast charm hadrons. We calculate leading charm baryon production from $Σ^-$, $π^-$ and $p$ projectiles in a two component model combining parton fusion with intrinsic charm. Final state $D^{-}$, $Σ_{c}^{0}$, $Ξ_{c}^{+}$, and $Λ_{c}^{+}$ $dσ/…
We calculate the rate of double open charm production in the forward kinematics studied recently in the LHCb experiment. We find that the mean field approximation for the double parton GPD (Generalized parton distributions), which neglects parton - parton correlations, underestimates the rate by a factor of two. The enhancement due to the perturbative QCD correlation \12 mechanism which explains the rate of double parton interactions at the central rapidities is found to explain 60 $÷$ 80 \% of the discrepancy. We argue that the nonperturbative fluctuations leading to non-factorized (correlate…
We reply to the Comment of Brodsky and Gardner on our paper "New limits on intrinsic charm in the nucleon from global analysis of parton distributions" [Phys. Rev. Lett. 114, 082002 (2015)]. We address a number of incorrect claims made about our fitting methodology, and elaborate how global QCD analysis of all available high-energy data provides no evidence for a large intrinsic charm component of the nucleon.
We discuss production of charmed mesons and J/Psi in p(d)A collisions at high energies. We argue that when the saturation scale Qs characterizing the parton density in a nucleus exceeds the quark mass m, the naive perturbation theory breaks down. Consequently, we calculate a process of heavy quark production in both open and hidden channels in the framework of the parton saturation model (Color Glass Condensate). We demonstrate that at RHIC such description is in agreement with experimental data on charm production.
We discuss charm production at LHC. The production of single $c \bar c$ pairs is calculated in the $k_t$-factorization approach. We use several unintegrated gluon distributions from the literature. Differential distributions for several charmed mesons are presented and compared to recent results of the ALICE and LHCb collaborations. Some missing strength can be observed. Furthermore we discuss production of two $c \bar c$ pairs within a simple formalism of double-parton scattering (DPS). Surprisingly large cross sections, comparable to single-parton scattering (SPS) contribution to $c \bar c$ …
We examine the effects of the new equilibration scenario of the increasingly strongly interacting parton plasma and of the non-equilibrium environment have on the production of open charm, photon and dilepton at LHC and at RHIC energies. We show that an out-of-equilibrium effect, not shown before, changes significantly the relative yield of the two main partonic contributions to photon production in the higher $p_T$ range, and higher orders for electromagnetic emissions have increased significance in the new scenario especially at RHIC energies. We argue that the effects of the new scenario ar…
Heavy quark structure functions from HERA provide a direct handle on the medium and small-x gluon PDF. In this contribution, we discuss ongoing progress on the implementation of the FONLL General-Mass scheme with running heavy quark masses, and of its benchmarking with the HOPPET and OpenQCDrad codes, and then present the impact of the recently released combined HERA charm production cross sections in the NNPDF2.3 analysis. We find that the combined charm data contribute to constraining the gluon and quarks at small values of Bjorken-x.
In the present paper we study the production of $χ_b + c\bar c$ at the LHC within single parton scattering approach. A special attention payed to the feed-down from $χ_b$ states to the associated $Υ+ c\bar c$ production, which was recently studied by the LHCb. We have found that this feed-down is about percents of the total cross section seen in the experiment. It is shown that the shapes of the differential distributions are almost same as found by the LHCb except the azimuthal asymmetry, which is almost flat in the experiment. We conclude that the precise study of the single parton scatterin…
We investigate open charm meson production in fixed-target LHCb experiment at $\sqrt{s}=86.6$ GeV in $p+^4\!\mathrm{He}$ collisions. Theoretical calculations of charm cross section are done in the framework of the $k_{T}$-factorization approach. Its application in the kinematical range never examined before is carefully discussed. We consider different schemes for the calculations relevant for different unintegrated (transverse momentum dependent) parton densities in a proton. We include in the analysis both CCFM- and DGLAP-based models of unintegrated parton distributions appropriate for the …
We discuss some theoretical uncertainties in the calculation of the cross section for charm production in charged current deep inelastic neutrino scattering related to ambiguities in the treatment of terms which are singular in the limit of a vanishing charm mass. In particular we compare the so-called variable flavour scheme where these terms are absorbed in the parton distribution functions containing the charm as an active flavour, with the so-called fixed flavour scheme with no charm mass subtraction where the charm appears only in the final state of fixed-order scattering matrix elements.…
Data on $W + D$-meson and $W + c$-jet hadroproduction have recently started to be included in at least some of the parton distribution function fits, mainly because of their potential to constrain the strange quark content of the proton. In this contribution we present predictions for $W + D$-meson and $W + c$-jet production with NLO QCD accuracy matched to parton shower. We show how including the latter effects, as well as hadronization, beam remnant and multiple parton interaction effects present in Shower Monte Carlo codes, is fundamental to provide consistent comparisons with the current e…
We outline the existing descriptions of the charm component of the deep inelastic proton structure function F2. We discuss recent approaches to include charm mass effects in the parton evolution equations and the coefficient functions.
The recent measurement of the differential $ γ+c $-jet cross section, performed at the Tevatron collider in Run II by the D0 collaboration, is studied in a next-to-leading order (NLO) global QCD analysis to assess its impact on the proton parton distribution functions (PDFs). We show that these data lead to a significant change on the gluon and charm quark distributions. We demonstrate also that there is an inconsistency between the new high precision HERA I+II combined data and Tevatron measurement. Moreover, in this study we investigate the impact of older EMC measurements of charm structure…
Charm penguin diagrams are known to be the main contribution to charmless B decay process with strangeness variation equal to minus one, which is the case of $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^+ K^-$ decay. The large phase space available in this and other B three-body decays allows non trivial final state interactions with all sort of rescattering processes and also access high momentum transfers in the central region of the Dalitz plane. In this work we investigate the charm Penguin contribution to $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^+ K^-$, described by a hadronic triangle loop in nonperturbative regions of the phase space…
We review the present theoretical knowledge of the charm--strange contribution to charged--current DIS structure functions. In particular, the uncertainties arising from the choice of the factorization scale, of the massive QCD scheme, and of the parton fit are discussed.
We study systematically the sensitivity of the photon structure function data on the gluon contents of the photon, by using the leading order Altarelli--Parisi (AP) equations. Charm quark contribution is studied in the quark parton model and by using the massive quark AP equations of Glück, Hoffmann and Reya. The present photon structure function data are found to allow wide range of gluon distributions in the photon. We give a set of six scale-dependent parton distributions in the photon (WHIT1 to WHIT6), which have systematically different gluon contents. Sensitivity of the structure functio…
We discuss various issues related to the definition of single and double open charm cross sections. We conclude that LHCb's extraction of sigma_effective, the effective cross section for double-parton scattering, is too large by a factor of two. This correction brings the data from open-charm pairs closer to that from J/psi plus open charm and jet production.
The FONLL general-mass variable-flavour number scheme provides a framework for the matching of a calculation in which a heavy quark is treated as a massless parton to one in which the mass dependence is retained throughout. We describe how the usual formulation of FONLL can be extended in such a way that the heavy quark parton distribution functions are freely parameterized at some initial scale, rather than being generated entirely perturbatively. We specifically consider the case of deep-inelastic scattering, in view of applications to PDF determination, and the possible impact of a fitted c…
We compare the theoretical status and the numerical predictions of two approaches for heavy quark production in the high energy hadron collisions, namely the conventional LO parton model with collinear approximation and $k_T$-factorization approach. The main assumptions used in the calculations are discussed. To extract the differences coming from the matrix elements we use very simple gluon structure function and fixed coupling. It is shown that the $k_T$-factorization approach calculated formally in LO and with Sudakov form factor accounts for many contributions related usually to NLO (and e…
We discuss production of two pairs of $c \bar c$ in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Both double-parton scattering (DPS) and single-parton scattering (SPS) contributions are included in the analysis. Each step of DPS is calculated within $k_t$-factorization approach which effectively includes some next-to-leading order corrections. The discussed mechanisms unavoidably lead to the production of pairs of mesons: $D_i D_j$ (each containing $c$ quarks) or $\bar D_i \bar D_j$ (each containing $\bar c$ antiquarks). We calculate corresponding differential distribution for $(D^0 D^0$ + $\bar D^0 \…
The charm quark photoproduction at large transverse momentum in the resolved photon interaction via partonic subprocess $\cg$ is studied. It is shown that at HERA energies the contribution of the charm quark excitation in the photon in the inclusive charm production at $\pt>5$ GeV/c dominates over the other resolved photon contribution via the gluon content of the photon and it is about 30\% of the contribution of the $c\bar c$-pair production via the photon-gluon fusion mechanism.
We assess the theoretical uncertainties on the total charm cross section. We discuss the importance of the quark mass, the scale choice and the parton densities on the estimate of the uncertainty. We conclude that due to the small charm quark mass, which amplifies the effect of the other parameters in the calculation, the uncertainty on the total charm cross section is difficult to quantify.
In this note we formulate and investigate theoretical uncertainties for high Q^2 deep inelastic heavy quark (charm, etc.) production rates which arise within collinear resummation techniques from variations of the a priori unknown charm input scale Q_0 of O(alpha_s) variable flavour number schemes. We show that Q_0 variations constitute a source of considerable theoretical uncertainty of present O(alpha_s) calculations within such schemes and we suggest to consider a scale optimization from higher order corrections. We also outline how the stability of the fixed order and collinearly resummed …
We show how deeply virtual pseudoscalar meson production experiments single out the contribution of the four chiral odd quark-proton GPDs which are related to the so far elusive transversity distribution function, $h_1$. Furthermore, in the kinematical ranges of the proposed EIC, electroproduction of strange and charmed mesons will allow one to uniquely pin down the non-perturbative charmed component in the nucleon structure function, and at the same time provide new insights in the connection of the quark/gluon degrees of freedom with the meson-baryon description. The use of dispersion relati…
We investigate whether the triple-parton scattering effects can be observed in open charm production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. We use so-called factorized Ansatz for calculations of hard multiple-parton interactions. The numerical results for each parton interaction are obtained within the $k_{T}$-factorization approach. Predictions for one, two and three $c\bar c$ pairs production are given for $\sqrt{s}= 7$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}= 13$ TeV. Quite large cross sections, of the order of milibarns, for the triple-parton scattering mechanism are obtained. We suggest a measurement of three…
One of the most popular definition for the charm-quark mass is the charm-quark pole mass $m_c^{\rm pole}$. In this contribution, we extract the charm-quark pole mass through perturbative Quantum Chromo Dynamics (pQCD) analysis up to the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) corrections from HERA Combined and LHCb charm production recent data sets. Then, we investigate for the first time the charm-quark pole mass $m_c^{\rm pole}$ pure impact, as an extra pQCD parameter on the proton Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) at the NNLO corrections.
We calculate the energy--momentum distribution of the charmed quarks produced in neutrino reactions on protons, quantifying the importance of mass and current non--conservation effects. We study the strange and charm distributions probed in neutrino interactions in the presently accessible kinematical region. Some ambiguities inherent to the extraction of the parton densities from dimuon data are pointed out.
