We calculate several differential distributions for the production of charm and dijets. Both single-parton scattering (SPS) and double-parton scattering (DPS) contributions are calculated in the $k_T$-factorization approach. The Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated parton distributions are used in our calculations. Relatively low cuts on jet transverse momenta are imposed to enhance the double-parton scattering mechanism contribution. We find dominance of the DPS contribution over the SPS one. We have found regions of the phase space where the SPS contribution is negligible compared to the DPS contribution. The distribution in transverse momentum of charm quark/antiquark or charmed mesons can be used to observe transition from the dominance of DPS at low transvsverse momenta to the dominance of SPS at large transverse momenta. Very distinct azimuthal correlation patterns (for $c \bar{c}$, $c\mathrm{\textit{-jet}}$, $\mathrm{\textit{jet-jet}}$, $D^0\mathrm{\textit{-jet}}$, $D^0 D^0$) are predicted as a result of the competition of the SPS and DPS mechanisms.
We compute the charm dijet photoproduction cross section at next-to-leading order of QCD in the zero-mass variable flavour number scheme, i.e. with active charm quarks in the proton and photon. The results are compared to recent measurements from the ZEUS experiment at HERA. The predictions for various distributions agree well with the data, in particular for large momentum fractions of the the partons in the photon, where direct photon processes dominate. At low momentum fractions, the predictions are quite sensitive to the charm content in the photon. The experimental data are shown to favou…
Being able to distinguish parton pair type in a dijet event could significantly improve the search for new particles that are predicted by the theories beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. To explore whether parton pair types manifesting themselves as a dijet event could be distinguished on an event-by-event basis, I performed a simulation based study considering observable jet variables. I found that using a multivariate approach can filter out about 80% of the other parton pairs while keeping more than half of the quark-quark or gluon-gluon parton pairs in an inclusive QCD…
Diffraction plays an exceptional role in DIS off heavy nuclei. First, diffraction into hard dijets is an unique probe of the unintegrated glue in the target. Second, because diffraction makes 50 per cent of total DIS off a heavy target, understanding diffraction in a saturation regime is crucial for a definition of saturated nuclear parton densities. After brief comments on the Nikolaev-Zakharov (NZ) pomeron-splitting mechanism for diffractive hard dijet production, I review an extension of the Nikolaev-Schafer-Schwiete (NSS) analysis of diffractive dijet production off nuclei to the definitio…
We investigate angular correlations in multi-jet final states at high-energy colliders and discuss their sensitivity to initial-state showering effects, including QCD coherence and corrections to collinear ordering.
We quantify uncertainties in the Monte-Carlo simulation of inclusive and dijet final states, which arise from using the MC@NLO technique for matching next-to-leading order parton level calculations and parton showers. We analyse a large variety of data from early measurements at the LHC. In regions of phase space where Sudakov logarithms dominate over high-energy effects, we observe that the main uncertainty can be ascribed to the free parameters of the parton shower. In complementary regions, the main uncertainty stems from the considerable freedom in the simulation of underlying events.
We compare several recent theoretical studies of the single transverse spin asymmetry in dijet-correlations at hadron colliders. We show that the results of these studies are all consistent. To establish this, we investigate in particular the two-gluon exchange contributions to the relevant initial and final state interactions in the context of a simplifying model. Overall, the results confirm that the dijet imbalance obeys at best a non-standard or "generalized" transverse-momentum-dependent factorization.
We study inclusive dijet azimuthal decorrelations in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC invoking the hypothesis of parton Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energies. In the parton Reggeization approach, the main contribution to the azimuthal angle difference between the two most energetic jets is due to the Reggeon-Reggeon-Particle-Particle scattering, when the fusion of two Reggeized gluons into a pair of Yang-Mills gluons dominates. Using a high-energy factorization scheme with the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated parton distribution functions and the Fadin-Lipatov effective…
We study the potential of dijet photoproduction measurements at a future electron-ion collider (EIC) to better constrain our present knowledge of the nuclear parton distribution functions. Based on theoretical calculations at next-to-leading order and approximate next-to-next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD, we establish the kinematic reaches for three different EIC designs, the size of the parton density function modifications for four different light and heavy nuclei from He-4 over C-12 and Fe-56 to Pb-208 with respect to the free proton, and the improvement of EIC measurements with res…
We present the first NLO QCD analysis of single-diffractive dijet production in proton-antiproton collisions. By comparing the ratio of single- and non-diffractive cross sections to data from the Tevatron, the rapidity-gap survival probability is determined as a function of the momentum fraction of the parton in the antiproton. Assuming Regge factorization, this probability can be interpreted as a suppression factor for the diffractive structure function measured in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA. In contrast to the observations for photoproduction, the suppression factor in proton-antiprot…
We perform a NLO QCD analysis of single-diffractive dijet production in proton-antiproton collisions. We perform next-to-leading order calculations of the single-diffractive and non-diffractive cross sections for dijet production in proton-antiproton collisions at the Tevatron. By comparing their ratio to the data published by the CDF collaboration for two different center-of-mass energies, we deduce the rapidity-gap survival probability as a function of the momentum fraction of the parton in the antiproton. Assuming Regge factorization, this probability can be interpreted as a suppression factor for the diffractive structure function measured in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA. In contrast …
Hard processes in diffractive deep-inelastic scattering can be described by a factorisation into parton-level subprocesses and diffractive parton distributions. In this framework, cross sections for inclusive dijet production in diffractive deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS) are computed to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD accuracy and compared to a comprehensive selection of data. Predictions for the total cross sections, 39 single-differential and four double-differential distributions for six measurements at HERA by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations are calculated. In the …
Large angle gluon radiations induced by multiple parton scatterings contribute to dijet production in deeply inelastic scattering off a large nucleus at the Electron-Ion Collider. Within the generalized high-twist approach to multiple parton scattering, such contributions at the leading order in perturbative QCD and large Bjorken momentum fraction $x_B$ can be expressed as a convolution of the multiple parton scattering amplitudes and the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) two-parton correlation matrix elements. We study this medium-induced dijet spectrum and its azimuthal angle correlation u…
The measurement of the triple-differential dijet production cross section as a function of the average transverse momentum $p_{T,\textrm{avg}}$, half the rapidity separation $y^{*}$, and the boost $y_{b}$ of the two leading jets in the event enables a kinematical scan of the underlying parton momentum distributions. We compute for the first time the second-order perturbative QCD corrections to this triple-differential dijet cross section, at leading color in all partonic channels, thereby enabling precision studies with LHC dijet data. A detailed comparison with experimental CMS 8 TeV data is …
The imbalance of dijets produced in hadronic collisions has been used to extract the average transverse momentum of partons inside the hadrons. In this paper we discuss new contributions to the dijet imbalance that could complicate or even hamper this extraction. They are due to polarization of initial state partons inside unpolarized hadrons that can arise in the presence of nonzero parton transverse momentum. Transversely polarized quarks and linearly polarized gluons produce specific azimuthal dependences of the two jets that in principle are not suppressed. Their effects cannot be isolated…
Future electron-positron colliders will play a leading role in the precision measurement of Higgs boson couplings which is one of the central interests in particle physics. Aiming at maximizing the performance to measure the Higgs couplings to the bottom, charm and strange quarks, we develop machine learning methods to improve the selection of events with a Higgs decaying to dijets. Our methods are based on the Boosted Decision Tree (BDT), Fully-Connected Neural Network (FCNN) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). We find that the BDT and FCNN-based algorithms outperform the conventional cut…
We present a systematic study of the dijet suppression at RHIC using the VNI/BMS parton cascade. We examine the modification of the dijet asymmetry A_j and the within-cone transverse energy distribution (jet-shape) along with partonic fragmentation distributions z and j_t in terms of: qhat; the path length of leading and sub-leading jets; cuts on the jet energy distributions; jet cone angle and the jet-medium interaction mechanism. We find that A_j is most sensitive to qhat and relatively insensitive to the nature of the jet-medium interaction mechanism. The jet profile is dominated by qhat an…
We investigate the cold nuclear matter(CNM) effects on dijet productions in high-energy nuclear collisions at LHC with the next-to-leading order perturbative QCD. The nuclear modifications for dijet angular distributions, dijet invariant mass spectra, dijet transverse momentum spectra and dijet momentum imbalance due to CNM effects are calculated by incorporating EPS, EKS, HKN and DS param-etrization sets of parton distributions in nucleus . It is found that dijet angular distributions and dijet momentum imbalance are insensitive to the initial-state CNM effects and thus provide optimal tools …
The new numerical approach that includes 1 to 2 mechanism is applied to double parton scattering (DPS) in W+dijet and Z+dijet final state production in proton-proton collisions at LHC. By using the underlying event (UE) simulation from a pythia 8 tune extracted in hadronic events, we show that, like in the case of a four-jet final state, the inclusion of 1 to 2 mechanism improves the description of experimental data measured at 7 TeV. In addition, predictions for proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV are shown for DPS- and UE-sensitive observables.
ZEUS inclusive diffractive cross-section measurements have been used in a next-to-leading-order QCD analysis to extract the diffractive parton distribution functions. Data on diffractive dijet production in deep inelastic scattering have also been used to constrain the gluon density. Predictions based on the extracted parton densities are able to describe measurements of dijet photoproduction.
We present a measurement of the cross section for production of two or more jets as a function of dijet mass, based on an integrated luminosity of 86 pb^-1 collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Our dijet mass spectrum is described within errors by next-to-leading order QCD predictions using CTEQ4HJ parton distributions, and is in good agreement with a similar measurement from the D0 experiment.
The scale factor is the effective cross section used to characterize the measured rate of inclusive double dijet production in high energy hadron collisions. It is sensitive to the two-parton distributions in the hadronic projectile. In principle, the scale factor depends on the center of mass energy and on the minimal transverse energy of the jets contributing to the double dijet cross section. Here, we point out that proton-proton collisions at the LHC will provide for the first time experimental access to these scale dependences in a logarithmically wide, nominally perturbative kinematic ra…
We study the evolution of a partonic jet shower propagating through a quark-gluon plasma. Combining the in-medium evolutions of the leading parton and shower gluons, we compute the depletion of the energy from the jet cone by dissipation through elastic collisions with medium constituents, by scattering of shower partons to larger angles, and by radiation outside the jet cone. Numerical results are presented for the nuclear modification of dijet asymmetry in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC.
We study the possibility of intrinsic (non-perturbative) charm in parton distribution functions (PDF) of the proton, within the context of the CT10 next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) global analysis. Three models for the intrinsic charm (IC) quark content are compared: (i) $\hat{c}(x) = 0$ (zero-IC model); (ii) $\hat{c}(x)$ is parametrized by a valence-like parton distribution (BHPS model); (iii) $\hat{c}(x)$ is parametrized by a sea-like parton distribution (SEA model). In these models, the intrinsic charm content, $\hat{c}(x)$, is included in the charm PDF at the matching scale $Q_c=m_c=1.…
Using QCD calculations of the cross section of inclusive dijet photoproduction in Pb-Pb ultraperipheral collisions in the LHC kinematics as pseudo-data, we study the effect of including these data using the Bayesian reweighting technique on nCTEQ15, nCTEQ15np, and EPPS16 nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs). We find that, depending on the assumed error of the pseudo-data, it leads to a significant reduction of the nPDF uncertainties at small values of the momentum fraction $x_A$. Taking the error to be 5\%, the uncertainty of nCTEQ15 and nCTEQ15np nPDFs reduces approximately by a fact…
Dijet production in proton-nucleus ($p$A) collisions at the LHC provides invaluable information on the underlying parton distributions in nuclei, especially the gluon distributions. Triple-differential dijet cross sections enable a well-controlled kinematic scan (over momentum fraction $x$ and probing scale $Q^2$) of the nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs), i.e., $f^\textrm{A}_i(x,Q^2)$. In this work, we study several types of triple-differential cross sections for dijet production in proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-lead ($p$Pb) collisions at the LHC, to next-to-leading order within …
We discuss hadroproduction of 4-jet final state at the LHC within the double-parton scattering (DPS) mechanism in the context of large-rapidity-distance jets. For planned and/or being currently performed high energy experiments this is the kinematical region where searches for BFKL signal are of the main interest. The DPS contributions are calculated in the LO collinear approach within the so-called factorized Ansatz. We show that the relative contribution of DPS is growing with respect to standard single-parton scattering (SPS) production of dijets and to the BFKL Mueller-Navelet (MN) jet mec…
We demonstrate that hard dijet production via coherent inelastic diffraction is a promising channel for probing gluon saturation at the Electron-Ion Collider. By $inelastic$ diffraction we mean a process in which the two hard jets - a quark-antiquark pair generated by the decay of the virtual photon - are accompanied by a softer gluon jet, emitted by the quark or the antiquark. This process can be described as the elastic scattering of an effective gluon-gluon dipole. The cross section takes a factorised form, between a hard factor and a unintegrated ("Pomeron") gluon distribution describing t…
We present the calculation of dijet production, doubly-differential in dijet mass, $m_{jj}$ and rapidity difference, $|y^{*}|$, at leading colour in all partonic channels at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD. We consider the long-standing problems associated with scale choice for dijet production at next-to-leading order (NLO) and investigate the impact of including the NNLO contribution. We find that the NNLO theory provides reliable predictions, even when using scale choices which display pathological behaviour at NLO. We choose the dijet invariant mass as the theoreti…
Multiparton interactions are introduced in order to explain a wide range of phenomena in p-p collisions. We present the most recent CMS measurements sensitive to multiparton interactions and hard double parton scattering at 7 TeV. In particular, the W+dijet channel and a scenario with four light jets in the final state are described.
Within a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model, dijet asymmetry is studied in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. It is found that a large dijet asymmetry ($A_{J}$) is produced by strong interactions between jets and partonic matter. It is demonstrated that hadronization and final-state hadronic rescatterings have little effects on $A_{J}$. The final $A_{J}$ is found to be driven by both initial $A_{J}$ and partonic jet energy loss, which is consistent with an increasing jet energy loss in a hot and strongly interacting partonic medium in more central Pb+Pb collisions.
At LHCb, proton parton distribution functions (PDFs) can be studied in a unique phase space complementary to that accessible by ATLAS and CMS, corresponding to low and high values of Bjorken-$x$. The measurements of vector boson production in the forward region, with and without an associated jet, are presented. These measurements can be used to constrain the proton PDFs, and in particular, the production of a $Z$ boson in association with a $c$-jet can be studied to measure the intrinsic charm content of the proton.
Jet and dijet rates in pA collisions at LHC energies are computed using a NLO Monte Carlo code. Uncertainties due to the choice of scale, jet-finding algorithm, nucleon parton densities and nuclear modifications of nucleon parton densities are analyzed. Predictions for different pA collisions at LHC energies are presented.
We calculate the rate of double open charm production in the forward kinematics studied recently in the LHCb experiment. We find that the mean field approximation for the double parton GPD (Generalized parton distributions), which neglects parton - parton correlations, underestimates the rate by a factor of two. The enhancement due to the perturbative QCD correlation \12 mechanism which explains the rate of double parton interactions at the central rapidities is found to explain 60 $÷$ 80 \% of the discrepancy. We argue that the nonperturbative fluctuations leading to non-factorized (correlate…
The prospects of measuring a single-differential dijet cross section during the proposed short proton-oxygen data taking at LHC Run 3 are studied using next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions. With reasonable experimental cuts and luminosity estimates, such a measurement is found to be feasible, and a few inverse nanobarns of integrated luminosity is estimated to be enough to yield new constraints on parton distribution functions (PDFs) of light nuclei. In the absence of a dedicated proton-proton reference, a mixed-energy nuclear modification ratio is proposed for cancelling free-pr…
We present results on dijet and W+dijet production at hadron colliders obtained by supplementing the leading log BFKL resummation with energy and momentum conservation. For pure dijet production, the inclusion of the BFKL radiation in the energy conservation leads to a decrease in the parton flux sufficient to counter-act the expected exponential increase in the cross section obtained for the partonic cross section. Other BFKL signatures such as the dijet azimuthal angle decorrelation do still survive.
We discuss several examples of how the transverse spatial distribution of partons in the nucleon, as well as multiparton correlations, can be probed by observing hard processes (dijets) in high-energy pp (pbar p) and pA (dA) collisions. Such studies can complement the information gained from measurements of hard exclusive processes in ep scattering. The transverse spatial distribution of partons determines the distribution over pp impact parameters of events with hard dijet production. Correlations in the transverse positions of partons can be studied in multiple dijet production. We find that…
We discuss threshold resummation for dijet production in hadronic collisions. Resummation to next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy is given in terms of an anomalous dimension matrix for each partonic subprocess involved.
We study the expected experimental mass distributions of dijet resonances from excited quarks in proton-proton collisions at energies $\sqrt{s}=$ 13, 14, 27, 100, 300, and 500 TeV. We explore in detail the expected shapes at both the generator and experimental levels, and identify within the distributions the effects of the excited quark natural width, parton momentum distributions of the proton, radiation, and experimental resolution. We present both differential and cumulative probability distributions as a function of dijet mass, and the signal acceptance of a window in dijet mass centered …
Heavy quark structure functions from HERA provide a direct handle on the medium and small-x gluon PDF. In this contribution, we discuss ongoing progress on the implementation of the FONLL General-Mass scheme with running heavy quark masses, and of its benchmarking with the HOPPET and OpenQCDrad codes, and then present the impact of the recently released combined HERA charm production cross sections in the NNPDF2.3 analysis. We find that the combined charm data contribute to constraining the gluon and quarks at small values of Bjorken-x.
Using the CGC effective theory together with the hybrid factorisation, we study forward dijet production in proton-nucleus collisions beyond leading order. In this paper, we compute the "real" next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections, i.e. the radiative corrections associated with a three-parton final state, out of which only two are being measured. To that aim, we start by revisiting our previous results for the three-parton cross-section presented in our previous paper. After some reshuffling of terms, we deduce new expressions for these results, which not only look considerably simpler, but …
We demonstrate that a trigger on hard dijet production at small rapidities allows to establish a quantitative distinction between central and peripheral collisions in pbar-p and p-p collisions at Tevatron and LHC energies. Such a trigger strongly reduces the effective impact parameters as compared to minimum bias events. This happens because the transverse spatial distribution of hard partons (x >~ 10^{-2}) in the proton is considerably narrower than that of soft partons, whose collisions dominate the total cross section. In the central collisions selected by the trigger, most of the partons w…
We calculate the cross section of diffractive dijet photoproduction in $ep$ scattering at next-to-leading order (NLO) of perturbative QCD (pQCD), which we supplement by a model of factorization breaking for the resolved-photon contribution. In this model, the suppression depends on the flavor and momentum fraction of the partons in the photon. We show that within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, the resulting approach provides a good description of the available HERA data in most of the bins. Hence, taken together with the observation that NLO pQCD explains well the data on diffract…
A method is derived to predict the structure of dijet-related hard components of trigger-associated (TA) hadron correlations from p-p collisions based on measured fragmentation functions (FFs) from e-e or p-pbar collisions and a minimum-bias (MB) jet or scattered-parton spectrum from p-pbar collisions. The method is based on the probability chain rule and Bayes' theorem and relates a trigger-parton--associated-fragment system from reconstructed dijets to a trigger-hadron--associated-hadron system from p-p data. The method is tested in this study by comparisons of FF TA structure with prelimina…
The energy loss of a hard parton is regarded as a useful tool to probe properties of a soft medium. However, the information obtained by a measurement of the nuclear suppression R_AA is not very sensitive to medium properties. Thus, more differential observables are needed. Here we focus on the pattern of angular correlation of hadrons associated with a hard trigger. These show rich pattern when going from low p_T to high p_T associate momentum. At low p_T, the pattern of associate hadrons can be understood in terms of Mach shocks excited by the energy lost from the away side parton while the …
Charm penguin diagrams are known to be the main contribution to charmless B decay process with strangeness variation equal to minus one, which is the case of $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^+ K^-$ decay. The large phase space available in this and other B three-body decays allows non trivial final state interactions with all sort of rescattering processes and also access high momentum transfers in the central region of the Dalitz plane. In this work we investigate the charm Penguin contribution to $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^+ K^-$, described by a hadronic triangle loop in nonperturbative regions of the phase space…
One of the most important developments in Monte Carlo simulation of collider events for the LHC has been the arrival of schemes and codes for matching of parton showers to matrix elements calculated at next-to-leading order in the QCD coupling. The POWHEG scheme, and particularly its implementation in the POWHEG-BOX code, has attracted most attention due to ease of use and effective portability between parton shower algorithms. But formal accuracy to NLO does not guarantee predictivity, and the beyond-fixed-order corrections associated with the shower may be large. Further, there are open ques…
We present a next-to-leading order QCD calculation of inclusive dijet photoproduction in ultraperipheral Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC and show that the results agree very well with various kinematic distributions measured by the ATLAS collaboration. The effect of including these data in nCTEQ or EPPS16 nuclear parton density functions (nPDFs) is then studied using the Bayesian reweighting technique. For an assumed total error of 5\% on the final data, its inclusion would lead to a significant reduction of the nPDF uncertainties of up to a factor of two at small values of the parton momentum fra…
We introduce a new measurable quantity, $R_{Δϕ}$, for studies of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in hadron-hadron collisions. In pQCD, $R_{Δϕ}$ is computed as a ratio of three-jet and dijet cross sections in which the parton distribution functions cancel to a large extent. At the leading order, $R_{Δϕ}$ is proportional to $α_s$, and the transverse momentum dependence of can therefore be exploited to determine $α_s$. We compute the NLO pQCD theory predictions and non-perturbative corrections for $R_{Δϕ}$ at the LHC and the Tevatron and investiga…
We calculate differential cross sections for $c \bar c$- and $b \bar b$-dijet production in $pp$-scattering at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV in the $k_T$-factorization and hybrid approaches with different unintegrated parton distribution functions (uPDFs). We present distributions in transverse momentum and pseudorapidity of the leading jet, rapidity difference between the jets and the dijet invariant mass. Our results are compared to recent LHCb data on forward production of heavy flavour dijets, measured recently for the first time individually for both, charm and bottom flavours. We found that an agr…
We reply to the Comment of Brodsky and Gardner on our paper "New limits on intrinsic charm in the nucleon from global analysis of parton distributions" [Phys. Rev. Lett. 114, 082002 (2015)]. We address a number of incorrect claims made about our fitting methodology, and elaborate how global QCD analysis of all available high-energy data provides no evidence for a large intrinsic charm component of the nucleon.
Exclusive electroproduction of hard dijets can be described within the collinear factorization. This process has clear experimental signature and provides one with an interesting alternative venue to test QCD description of hard diffractive processes and extract information on generalized nucleon parton distributions. In this work we present detailed leading-order QCD calculations of the relevant cross sections, including longitudinal momentum fraction distribution of the dijets and their azimuthal angle dependence.
We explore the diffractive interaction of a proton with an anti-proton which results in centrally produced dijets. This process has been recently studied at the Tevatron. We make predictions within an Ingelman-Schlein approach and compare them to the recent data presented by the CDF collaboration. Earlier calculations resulted in theoretical cross-sections which are much larger than those observed by CDF. We find that, after consideration of hadronisation effects and the parton shower, and using parton density functions extracted from diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA, it is possib…
We investigate dijet production from proton-nucleus collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as a means for observing superfast quarks in nuclei with Bjorken $x>1$. Kinematically, superfast quarks can be identified through directly measurable jet kinematics. Dynamically, their description requires understanding several elusive properties of nuclear QCD, such as nuclear forces at very short distances, as well as medium modification of parton distributions in nuclei. In the present work, we develop a model for nuclear parton distributions at large $x$ in which the nuclear dynamics at short …
Using Soft-Collinear Effective Theory, we develop the transverse-momentum-dependent factorization formalism for heavy flavor dijet production in polarized-proton-electron collisions. We consider heavy flavor mass corrections in the collinear-soft and jet functions, as well as the associated evolution equations. Using this formalism, we generate a prediction for the gluon Sivers asymmetry for charm and bottom dijet production at the future Electron-Ion Collider. Furthermore, we compare theoretical predictions with and without the inclusion of finite quark masses. We find that the heavy flavor m…
We study ratios of azimuthal-angle distributions in Mueller-Navelet jets after imposing a rapidity veto constraint: the minijet radiation activity is restricted to only allow final-state partons separated at least a distance in rapidity $b$. It is well-known that the asymptotic growth with the rapidity separation of the two tagged jets of the NLLA BFKL Green's function requires a value of $b \simeq {\cal O} (2)$ in order to avoid unphysical cross sections. We further investigate this point from a phenomenological point of view and work out those values of $b$ which best fit angular distributio…
We argue that coherent production of hard dijets by linearly polarized real photons can provide direct evidence for chirality violation in hard processes, the first measurement of the magnetic susceptibility of the quark condensate and the photon distribution amplitude. It can also serve as a sensitive probe of the generalized gluon parton distribution. Numerical calculations are presented for HERA kinematics.
