The Stripe 82 Massive Galaxy Catalog (S82-MGC) is the largest-volume stellar mass-limited sample of galaxies beyond z~1 constructed to date. Spanning 139.4 deg2, the S82-MGC includes a mass-limited sample of 41,770 galaxies with log Mstar > 11.2 to z~0.7, sampling a volume of 0.3 Gpc3, roughly equivalent to the volume of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-I/II (SDSS-I/II) z < 0.15 MAIN sample. The catalog is built on three pillars of survey data: the SDSS Stripe 82 Coadd photometry which reaches r-band magnitudes of 23.5 AB, YJHK photometry at depths of 20th magnitude (AB) from the UK Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Large Area Survey, and over 70,000 spectroscopic galaxy redshifts from SDSS-I/II and the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). We describe the catalog construction and verification, the production of 9-band matched aperture photometry, tests of existing and newly estimated photometric redshifts required to supplement spectroscopic redshifts for 55% of the log Mstar > 11.2 sample, and geometric masking. We provide near-IR based stellar mass estimates and compare these to previous estimates. All catalog products are made publicly available. The S82-MGC not only addresses previous statistical limitations in high-mass galaxy evolution studies but begins tackling inherent data challenges in the coming era of wide-field imaging surveys.
We report the results of a search for long-period ($100<P<600$ days) periodic variability in SDSS Stripe 82 standards catalog. The SDSS coverage of Stripe 82 enables such a search because there are on average 20 observations per band in $ugriz$ bands for about 1 million sources, collected over about 6 years, with a faint limit of $r\sim22$ mag and precisely calibrated 1-2% photometry. We calculated the periods of candidate variable sources in this sample using the Lomb-Scargle periodogram and considered the three highest periodogram peaks in each of the $gri$ filters as relevant. Only those so…
We present 226 large ultra-diffuse galaxy (UDG) candidates ($r_e > 5.3$\arcsec, $μ_{0,g} > 24$ mag arcsec$^{-2}$) in the SDSS Stripe 82 region recovered using our improved procedure developed in anticipation of processing the entire Legacy Surveys footprint. The advancements include less constrained structural parameter fitting, expanded wavelet filtering criteria, consideration of Galactic dust, estimates of parameter uncertainties and completeness based on simulated sources, and refinements of our automated candidate classification. We have a sensitivity $\sim$1 mag fainter in $μ_{0,g}$ than…

Spitzer Matching survey of the UltraVISTA ultra-deep Stripes (SMUVS): Full-mission IRAC Mosaics and Catalogs
We extend the SDSS Stripe 82 Standard Stars Catalog with post-2007 SDSS imaging data. This improved version lists averaged SDSS ugriz photometry for nearly a million stars brighter than r~22 mag. With 2-3x more measurements per star, random errors are 1.4-1.7x smaller than in the original catalog, and about 3x smaller than for individual SDSS runs. Random errors in the new catalog are ~< 0.01 mag for stars brighter than 20.0, 21.0, 21.0, 20.5, and 19.0 mag in u, g, r, i, and z-bands, respectively. We achieve this error threshold by using the Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) Gmag photometry to …
The 31 Deg$^2$ Release of the Stripe 82 X-ray Survey: The Point Source Catalog
By combining spectroscopic data from the LAMOST DR7, SDSS DR12, and corrected photometric data from the Gaia EDR3, we apply the Stellar Color Regression (SCR; Yuan et al. 2015a) method to recalibrate the SDSS Stripe 82 standard stars catalog of Ivezić et al. (2007). With a total number of about 30,000 spectroscopically targeted stars, we have mapped out the relatively large and strongly correlated photometric zero-point errors present in the catalog, $\sim$2.5 per cent in the $u$ band and $\sim$ 1 per cent in the $griz$ bands. Our study also confirms some small but significant magnitude depend…
The morphological diversity of galaxies is a relevant probe of galaxy evolution and cosmological structure formation, but the classification of galaxies in large sky surveys is becoming a significant challenge. We use data from the Stripe-82 area observed by the Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey (S-PLUS) in twelve optical bands, and present a catalogue of the morphologies of galaxies brighter than $r=17$ mag determined both using a novel multi-band morphometric fitting technique and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for computer vision. Using the CNNs we find that, compared to our …

We present the $H_{160}$ morphological catalogs for the COSMOS-DASH survey, the largest area near-IR survey using HST-WFC3 to date. Utilizing the "Drift And SHift" observing technique for HST-WFC3 imaging, the COSMOS-DASH survey imaged approximately 0.5 deg$^2$ of the UltraVISTA deep stripes (0.7 deg$^2$ when combined with archival data). Global structural parameters are measured for 51,586 galaxies within COSMOS-DASH using GALFIT (excluding the CANDELS area) with detection using a deep multi-band HST image. We recover consistent results with those from the deeper 3D-HST morphological catalogs…
Giant, star-forming clumps are a common feature prevalent amongst high-redshift star-forming galaxies and play a critical role in shaping their chaotic morphologies and yet, their nature and role in galaxy evolution remains to be fully understood. A majority of the effort to study clumps has been focused at high redshifts, and local clump studies have often suffered from small sample sizes. In this work, we present an analysis of clump properties in the local universe, and for the first time, performed with a statistically significant sample. With the help of the citizen science-powered Galaxy…
We test the merger-induced dual active galactic nuclei (dAGN) paradigm using a sample of 35 radio galaxy pairs from the SDSS Stripe 82 field. Using Keck optical spectroscopy, we confirm 21 pairs have consistent redshifts, constituting kinematic pairs; the remaining 14 pairs are line-of-sight projections. We classify the optical spectral signatures via emission line ratios, equivalent widths, and excess of radio power above star-formation predicted outputs. We find 6 galaxies are classified as LINERs and 7 are AGN/starburst composites. Most of the LINERs are retired galaxies, while the composit…
