PSR B0540-69 has braking index measurement in its persistent state: n=2.129 \pm 0.012. Recently, it is reported to have spin-down state changes: a suddenly 36 % increase in the spin-down rate. Combining the persistent state braking index measurement and different spin-down states, PSR B0540-69 is more powerful than intermittent pulsars in constraining pulsar spin-down models. The pulsar wind model is applied to explain the variable timing behavior of PSR B0540-69. The persistent state braking index of PSR B0540-69 is the combined effect of magnetic dipole radiation and particle wind. The particle density reflects the magnetospheric activity in real-time and may be responsible for the changing spin-down behavior. Corresponding to the 36 % increase in the spin-down rate of PSR B0540-69, the relative increase in the particle density is 88 % in the vacuum gap model. And the model calculated braking index in the new state is n=1.79. Future braking index observation of PSR B0540-69 in the new spin-down state will be very powerful in distinguishing between different pulsar spin-down models and different particle acceleration models in the wind braking scenario. The variable timing behavior of PSR J1846-0258 is also understandable in the pulsar wind model.
On the braking index of the unusual high-B rotation-powered pulsar PSR J1846-0258
On the new braking index of PSR B0540-69: further support for magnetic field growth of neutron stars following submergence by fallback accretion
The braking index of PSR B0540-69 and the associated pulsar wind nebula emission after spin-down rate transition
PSR J0537$-$6910 is the most active glitching pulsar with a glitch rate $\sim0.3$ yr $^{-1}$. We have reanalysed 45 glitches of PSR J0537$-$6910 published in the literature and have done post-glitch timing fits within the vortex creep model. Moment of inertia fractions of the superfluid regions participating in glitches are obtained for each event and the model predictions for the inter-glitch time are confronted with the observed time-scales. Similarities and differences with the glitching behaviours of the well studied Crab and Vela pulsars are highlighted. From superfluid recoupling time-sc…
The braking index of PSR J1734-3333 and the magnetar population

We present timing solutions of PSR B0950+08, using 14 years of observations at Nanshan 26-m Radio Telescope of Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory. The braking index of PSR B0950+08 varies from --367 392 to 168 883, which shows an oscillation with large amplitude ($\sim 10^5$) and uncertainty. Considering the variation of braking indices and the most probable kinematic age of PSR B0950+08, a model withe long-term magnetic field decay modulated by short-term oscillations is proposed to explain the timing data. With this magnetic field decay model, we discuss the spin and thermal evolution of PSR …
We performed deep observations to search for radio pulsations in the directions of 375 unassociated Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) gamma-ray sources using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at 322 and 607 MHz. In this paper we report the discovery of three millisecond pulsars (MSPs), PSR J0248+4230, PSR J1207$-$5050 and PSR J1536$-$4948. We conducted follow up timing observations for around 5 years with the GMRT and derived phase coherent timing models for these MSPs. PSR J0248$+$4230 and J1207$-$5050 are isolated MSPs having periodicities of 2.60 ms and 4.84 ms. PSR J1536-4948 is a …
The double pulsar (PSR J0737-3039A/B) provides some of the most stringent tests of general relativity (GR) and its alternatives. The success of this system in tests of GR is largely due to the high-precision, long-term timing of its recycled-pulsar member, pulsar A. On the other hand, pulsar B is a young pulsar that exhibits significant short-term and long-term timing variations due to the electromagnetic-wind interaction with its companion and geodetic precession. Improving pulsar B's timing precision is a key step towards improving the precision in a number of GR tests with PSR J0737-3039A/B…
We present radio observation of a millisecond pulsar PSR J0621+1002 using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The pulsar shows periodic pulse intensity modulations for both the first and the third pulse components. The fluctuation spectrum of the first pulse component has one peak of 3.0$\pm$0.1 pulse periods, while that of the third pulse component has two diffused peaks of 3.0$\pm$0.1 and 200$\pm$1 pulse periods. The single pulse timing analysis is carried out for this pulsar and the single pulses can be divided into two classes based on the post-fit timing resi…
We present analysis of the timing noise in PSR J1733-3716, which combines data from Parkes 64-m radio telescope and nearly 15 years of timing data obtained from the Nanshan 25-m radio telescope. The variations in the spin frequency and frequency derivative are determined. The fluctuation in the spin frequency is obvious with an amplitude of 1.94(7)*10 -9 Hz. Variations of the integrated profile at 1369 MHz are detected with the changes occur in the relative peak intensity from the right profile component. From analysis of the single pulse data at 1382 MHz, we detect weak emission states that a…
The 559 Hz black-widow pulsar PSR J1555-2908, originally discovered in radio, is also a bright gamma-ray pulsar. Timing its pulsations using 12 yr of Fermi-LAT gamma-ray data reveals long-term variations in its spin frequency that are much larger than is observed from other millisecond pulsars. While this variability in the pulsar rotation rate could be intrinsic "timing noise", here we consider an alternative explanation: the variations arise from the presence of a very-low-mass third object in a wide multi-year orbit around the neutron star and its low-mass companion. With current data, this…

Improving timing sensitivity in the microhertz frequency regime: limits from PSR J1713$+$0747 on gravitational waves produced by super-massive black-hole binaries
We report the discovery of PSR J1555-2908, a 1.79 ms radio and gamma-ray pulsar in a 5.6 hr binary system with a minimum companion mass of 0.052 $M_\odot$. This fast and energetic ($\dot E = 3 \times 10^{35}$ erg/s) millisecond pulsar was first detected as a gamma-ray point source in Fermi LAT sky survey observations. Guided by a steep spectrum radio point source in the Fermi error region, we performed a search at 820 MHz with the Green Bank Telescope that first discovered the pulsations. The initial radio pulse timing observations provided enough information to seed a search for gamma-ray pul…

We report on radio timing observations of the black widow binary pulsar J0610$-$2100 and optical observations of its binary companion. The radio timing observations extend the timing baseline to 16yr and reveal a marginal detection of the orbital period derivative, but they show no significant evidence of orbital variations such as those seen in other black widow pulsars. Furthermore, no eclipses are seen in the observations at observing frequencies ranging from 310 to 2700MHz. The optical VRI light curves were modulated with the orbital period, reaching maximum brightness of $V=26.8$, $R=25.4…
