In the differential geometry of certain F-structures, the role of W-curvature tensor is very well known. A detailed study of this tensor has been made on the spacetime of general relativity. The spacetimes satisfying Einstein field equations with vanishing W-tensor have been considered and the existence of Killing and conformal Killing vector fields has been established. Perfect fluid spacetimes with vanishing W-tensor have also been considered. The divergence of W-tensor is studied in detail and it is seen, among other results, that a perfect fluid spacetime with conserved W-tensor represents either an Einstein space or a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological model.
First we restate the definition of a Zero Area Singularity, recently introduced by H. Bray. We then consider several definitions of mass for these singularities. We use the Inverse Mean Curvature Flow to prove some new results about the mass of a singularity, the ADM mass of the manifold, and the capacity of the singularity.
In this paper we provide under certain geometric and physical assumptions new uniqueness and non-existence results for complete spacelike hypersurfaces of constant mean curvature in spatially open Generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes. Some of our results are then applied to relevant spacetimes as the steady state spacetime, Einstein-de Sitter spacetime and certain radiation models.
Spacelike surfaces in Generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes whose mean curvature function satisfies a natural nonlinear inequality are analyzed. Several uniqueness and nonexistence results for such compact spacelike surfaces are proved. In the nonparametric case, new Calabi-Bernstein type problems are solved as a consequence.
Som-Raychaudhuri spacetime is a stationary cylindrical symmetric solution of Einstein field equation corresponding to a charged dust distribution in rigid rotation. The main object of the present paper is to investigate the curvature restricted geometric structures admitting by the Som-Raychaudhuri spacetime and it is shown that such a spacetime is a 2-quasi-Einstein, generalized Roter type, $Ein(3)$ manifold satisfying $R.R = Q(S,R)$, $C\cdot C = \frac{2a^2}{3} Q(g,C)$, and its Ricci tensor is cyclic parallel and Riemann compatible. Finally, we make a comparison between Gödel spacetime and So…
In this work we study Berwald spacetimes and their vacuum dynamics, where the latter are based on a Finsler generalization of the Einstein's equations derived from an action on the unit tangent bundle. In particular, we consider a specific class of spacetimes which are non-flat generalizations of the very special relativity (VSR) line element, to which we refer as very general relativity (VGR). We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the VGR line element to be of Berwald type. We present two novel examples with the corresponding vacuum field equations: a Finslerian generalization of …
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for warped product manifolds with 1-dimensional base, and in particular, for generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes, to satisfy some generalized Einstein metric condition. We also construct suitable examples of such manifolds. They are quasi-Einstein or not.
We construct weak solutions for the evolution of hypersurfaces along their inverse space-time mean curvature in asymptotically flat maximal initial data sets. As the speed of the new flow is given by a space-time invariant, it can detect both future- and past-trapped apparent horizons. The weak solution extends concepts developed by Huisken-Ilmanen for inverse mean curvature flow and by Moore for inverse null mean curvature flow.
New general results of non-existence and rigidity of spacelike submanifolds immersed in a spacetime, whose mean curvature is a time-oriented causal vector field, are given. These results hold for a wide class of spacetimes which includes globally hyperbolic, stationary, conformally stationary and pp-wave spacetimes, among others. Moreover, applications to the Cauchy problem in General Relativity, are presented. Finally, in the case of hypersurfaces, we also obtain significant consequences in Geometrical Analysis, solving new Calabi-Bernstein and Dirichlet problems on a Riemannian manifold.
In this paper, we prove Lorentzian positive mass theorem for spacetimes with distributional curvature. To do so, we introduce distributional curvature and generalized Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) momentum. As an application, we discuss a junction of spacetimes.
We prove that every $(3+1)$-dimensional flat GHMC Minkowski spacetime which is not a translation spacetime or a Misner spacetime carries a unique foliation by spacelike hypersurfaces of constant scalar curvature. In otherwords, we prove that every such spacetime carries a unique time function with isochrones of constant scalar curvature. Furthermore, this time function is a smooth submersion.
For $2+1$ spacetime dimensions, we derive sufficient conditions for the twisting function in a twisted product spacetime, such that there is a global foliation by spacelike CMC surfaces.
The Plebanski formulation of complex general relativity is given in terms of variables valued in the complexification of the $so(3)$ Lie algebra. Therefore, it is genuinely a gauge theory that is also diffeomorphism-invariant. For this reason, the way that the Levi-Civita connection emerges from this formulation is not direct because both the internal (gauge) and the spacetime connections are geometrical structures a priori not related, there is not a natural link between them. Any possible relationship must be put in by hand or must come from extra hypotheses. In this paper, we analyze the co…
We establish the positive energy theorem for weak asymptotically anti-de Sitter initial data sets with distributional curvature under the weak dominant energy condition.
Let $M$ be a globally hyperbolic maximal compact $3$-dimensional spacetime locally modelled on Minkowski, anti-de Sitter or de Sitter space. It is well known that $M$ admits a unique foliation by constant mean curvature surfaces. In this paper we extend this result to singular spacetimes with particles (cone singularities of angles less than $π$ along time-like geodesics).
This paper is devoted to the study of curvature properties of Hayward black hole (briefly, HBH) spacetime, which is a solution of Einstein field equations (briefly, EFE) having non-vanishing cosmological constant. We have proved that the HBH spacetime is an Einstein manifold of level $2$, $2$-quasi Einstein, generalized quasi-Einstein and Roter type manifold. Also, it is shown that the nature of the HBH spacetime is pseudosymmetric and it obeys several types of pseudosymmetries, such as, pseudosymmetry due to concircular, conformal and conharmonic curvature (i.e., $F\cdot F=\mathcal{L}Q(g,F)$ …
In this letter we provide an invariant characterization for all spacetimes with all polynomial scalar invariants constructed from the Riemann tensor and its covariant derivatives vanishing except those zeroth order curvature invariants expressed as polynomials in $Λ$, the cosmological constant. Using this invariant description we provide explicit forms for the metric.
We prove that the leaves of an inverse mean curvature flow provide a foliation of a future end of a cosmological spacetime $N$ under the necessary and sufficent assumptions that $N$ satisfies a future mean curvature barrier condition and a strong volume decay condition. Moreover, the flow parameter $t$ can be used to define a new physically important time function.
The `observer space' of a Lorentzian spacetime is the space of future-timelike unit tangent vectors. Using Cartan geometry, we first study the structure a given spacetime induces on its observer space, then use this to define abstract observer space geometries for which no underlying spacetime is assumed. We propose taking observer space as fundamental in general relativity, and prove integrability conditions under which spacetime can be reconstructed as a quotient of observer space. Additional field equations on observer space then descend to Einstein's equations on the reconstructed spacetim…
The Bardeen solution corresponding to Einstein field equations with a cosmological constant is a regular black hole. The main goal of this manuscript is to investigate the geometric structures in terms of curvature conditions admitted by this spacetime. It is found that this spacetime is pseudosymmetric and possess several kinds of pseudosymmetries. Also, it is a manifold of pseudosymmetry Weyl curvature and the difference tensor C.R-R.C linearly depends on the tensors Q(g;C) and Q(S;C). It is interesting to note that such a spacetime is weakly generalized recurrent manifold and satisfies spec…
We solve the spacelike, spherically symmetric, constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in the maximally extended Reissner-Nordstrom spacetime with the charge smaller than the mass. Based on these results, we construct constant mean curvature foliations with fixed or varied mean curvature in each slice in this spacetime.
We reinterpret special relativity, or more precisely its de Sitter deformation, in terms of 3d conformal geometry, as opposed to (3+1)d spacetime geometry. An inertial observer, usually described by a geodesic in spacetime, becomes instead a choice of ways to reverse the conformal compactification of a Euclidean vector space up to scale. The observer's "current time," usually given by a point along the geodesic, corresponds to the choice of scale in the decompactification. We also show how arbitrary conformal 3-geometries give rise to "observer space geometries," as defined in recent work, fro…
In this thesis we describe how minimal surface techniques can be used to prove the Penrose inequality in general relativity for two classes of 3-manifolds. We also describe how a new volume comparison theorem involving scalar curvature for 3-manifolds follows from these same techniques.
We prove the existence and uniqueness of the Dirichlet problem for spacelike, spherically symmetric, constant mean curvature equation with symmetric boundary data in the extended Schwarzschild spacetime. As an application, we completely solve the CMC foliation conjecture which is posted by Malec and O Murchadha in 2003.
We propose a new foliation of asymptotically Euclidean initial data sets by 2-spheres of constant spacetime mean curvature (STCMC). The leaves of the foliation have the STCMC-property regardless of the initial data set in which the foliation is constructed which asserts that there is a plethora of STCMC 2-spheres in a neighborhood of spatial infinity of any asymptotically flat spacetime. The STCMC-foliation can be understood as a covariant relativistic generalization of the CMC-foliation suggested by Huisken and Yau. We show that a unique STCMC-foliation exists near infinity of any asymptotica…
This paper investigates the structure of gravitational singularities at the level of the connection. We show in particular that for FLRW spacetimes with particle horizons a local holonomy, which is related to a gravitational energy, becomes unbounded near the big-bang singularity. This implies the $C^{0,1}_{\mathrm{loc}}$-inextendibility of such FLRW spacetimes. Again using an unbounded local holonomy we also give a general theorem establishing the $C^{0,1}_{\mathrm{loc}}$-inextendibility of spherically symmetric weak null singularities which arise at the Cauchy horizon in the interior of blac…
One of the central difficulties of settling the $L^2$-bounded curvature conjecture for the Einstein -Vacuum equations is to be able to control the causal structure of spacetimes with such limited regularity. In this paper we show how to circumvent this difficulty by showing that the geometry of null hypersurfaces of Enstein-Vacuum spacetimes can be controlled in terms of initial data and the total curvature flux through the hypersurface.
We construct a $T$-axisymmetric, spacelike, spherically symmetric, constant mean curvature hypersurfaces foliation in the Kruskal extension with properties that the mean curvature varies in each slice and ranges from minus infinity to plus infinity. This family of hypersurfaces extends the CMC foliation discussions posted by Malec and Ó Murchadha in 2009.
