Multiple Schramm-Loewner Evolutions (SLE) are conformally invariant random processes of several curves, whose construction by growth processes relies on partition functions: Möbius covariant solutions to a system of second order partial differential equations. In this article, we use a quantum group technique to construct a distinguished basis of solutions, which conjecturally correspond to the extremal points of the convex set of probability measures of multiple SLEs.
This article pertains to the classification of multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLE). We construct the pure partition functions of multiple SLE$(κ)$ with $κ\in (0,4]$ and relate them to certain extremal multiple SLE measures, thus verifying a conjecture from [BBK05, KP16]. We prove that the two approaches to construct multiple SLEs - the global, configurational construction of [KL07, Law09a] and the local, growth process construction of [BBK05, Dub07, Gra07, KP16] - agree. The pure partition functions are closely related to crossing probabilities in critical statistical mechanics models. W…
Fix constants χ>0 and θ\in [0,2π), and let h be an instance of the Gaussian free field on a planar domain. We study flow lines of the vector field e^{i(h/χ+θ)} starting at a fixed boundary point of the domain. Considering all θ\in [0,2π), one obtains a family of curves that look locally like SLE_κ, with κ\in (0,4), where χ= 2/κ^{1/2} - κ^{1/2}/2, which we interpret as the rays of a random geometry with purely imaginary curvature. We extend the fundamental existence and uniqueness results about these paths to the case that the paths intersect the boundary. We also show that flow lines of differ…
We implement a version of conformal field theory in a doubly connected domain to connect it to the theory of annulus SLE of various types, including the standard annulus SLE, the reversible annulus SLE, and the annulus SLE with several force points. This implementation considers the statistical fields generated under the OPE multiplication by the Gaussian free field and its central/background charge modifications with a weighted combination of Dirichlet and excursion-reflected boundary conditions. We derive the Eguchi-Ooguri version of Ward's equations and Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov equati…
Martingales often play an important role in computations with Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLEs). The purpose of this article is to provide a straightforward approach to the Virasoro module structure of the space of local martingales for variants of SLEs. In the case of ordinary chordal SLE, it has been shown in Bauer & Bernard: Phys.Lett.B 557 that polynomial local martingales form a Virasoro module. We will show for more general variants that the module of local martingales has a natural submodule M that has the same interpretation as the module of polynomial local martingales of chordal SLE,…
We provide multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLEs) to describe the scaling limit of multiple interfaces in critical lattice models possessing Lie algebra symmetries. The critical behavior of the models is described by Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) models. Introducing a multiple Brownian motion on a Lie group as well as that on the real line, we construct the multiple SLE with additional Lie algebra symmetries. The connection between the resultant SLE and the WZW model can be understood via SLE martingales satisfied by the correlation functions in the WZW model. Due to interactions among SLE trac…
We apply exact WKB methods to the study of the partition function of pure N=2 epsilon_i-deformed gauge theory in four dimensions in the context of the 2d/4d correspondence. We study the partition function at leading order in epsilon_2/epsilon_1 (i.e. at large central charge) and in an expansion in epsilon_1. We find corrections of the form ~ exp[- SW periods / epsilon_1] to this expansion. We attribute these to the exchange of the order of summation over gauge instanton number and over powers of epsilon_1 when passing from the Nekrasov form of the partition function to the topological string t…
In this paper, we study mathematical functions of relevance to pure gravity in AdS3. Modular covariance places stringent constraints on the space of such functions; modular invariance places even stronger constraints on how they may be combined into physically viable candidate partition functions. We explicitly detail the list of holomorphic and anti-holomorphic functions that serve as candidates for chiral and anti-chiral partition functions and note that modular covariance is only consistent with such functions when the left (resp. right) central charge is an integer multiple of 8, $c\in 8\m…
We propose a concrete form of a vertex function, which we call O-vertex, for the intersection between an O5-plane and a 5-brane in the topological vertex formalism, as an extension of the work of arXiv:1709.01928. Using the O-vertex it is possible to compute the Nekrasov partition functions of 5d theories realized on any 5-brane web diagrams with O5-planes. We apply our proposal to 5-brane webs with an O5-plane and compute the partition functions of pure SO($N$) gauge theories and the pure $G_2$ gauge theory. The obtained results agree with the results known in the literature. We also compute …
We study N=2 supersymmetric four dimensional gauge theories, in a certain N=2 supergravity background, called Omega-background. The partition function of the theory in the Omega-background can be calculated explicitly. We investigate various representations for this partition function: a statistical sum over random partitions, a partition function of the ensemble of random curves, a free fermion correlator. These representations allow to derive rigorously the Seiberg-Witten geometry, the curves, the differentials, and the prepotential. We study pure N=2 theory, as well as the theory with matte…
Applying the quantum group method developed in [KP20], we construct solutions to the Benoit & Saint-Aubin partial differential equations with boundary conditions given by specific recursive asymptotics properties. Our results generalize solutions constructed in [KP16, PW19], known as the pure partition functions of multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions. The generalization is reminiscent of fusion in conformal field theory, and our solutions can be thought of as partition functions of systems of random curves, where many curves may emerge from the same point.
We study Bethe/gauge correspondence at the special locus of Coulomb moduli where the integrable system exhibits the splitting of degenerate levels. For this investigation, we consider the four-dimensional pure $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric $U(N)$ gauge theory, with a half-BPS surface defect constructed with the help of an orbifold or a degenerate gauge vertex. We show that the non-perturbative Dyson-Schwinger equations imply the Schrödinger-type and the Baxter-type differential equations satisfied by the respective surface defect partition functions. At the special locus of Coulomb moduli the…
Algebraic approach to quantum non - separability is applied to the case of two qubits. It is based on the partition of the algebra of observables into independent subalgebras and the tensor product structure of the Hilbert space is not exploited. Even in this simple case, such general formulation has some advantages. Using algebraic formalism we can explicitly show the relativity of the notion of entanglement to the observables measured in the system and characterize separable and non - separable pure states. As a universal measure of non - separability of pure states we propose to take so cal…
The fundamentals of Statistical Mechanics require a fresh definition in the context of the developments in Classical Mechanics of integrable and chaotic systems. This is done with the introduction of Micro Partitions ; a union of disjoint components in phase space. Partition functions including the invariants, Kolmogorov Entropy and Euler number are introduced. The ergodic hypothesis for partial ergodicity is discussed. In the context of Quantum Mechanics the presence of symmetry groups with irreducible representations gives rise to degenerate and non degenerate spectrum for the Hamiltonian. Q…
Graphs on surfaces is an active topic of pure mathematics belonging to graph theory. It has also been applied to physics and relates discrete and continuous mathematics. In this paper we present a formal mathematical description of the relation between graph theory and the mathematical physics of discrete string theory. In this description we present problems of the combinatorial world of real importance for graph theorists. The mathematical details of the paper are as follows: There is a combinatorial description of the partition function of bosonic string theory. In this combinatorial descri…
We find that superintegrability (character expansion) property persists in the exotic sector of the monomial non-Gaussian matrix model, with potential $\Tr X^r$, in pure phase, where the naive partition function $\langle 1 \rangle$ vanishes. The role of the (anomaly-corrected) partition function is played by $\left\langleχ_ρ\right\rangle$ -- the Schur average of the suitably chosen \textit{square} partiton $ρ$; such partitions are well-known to correspond to singular vectors of the Virasoro algebra. Further, non-zero are only Schur averages $\left\langle χ_μ\right\rangle$ for such $μ$ that hav…
