We find optimal integrability conditions on the initial data $f$ for the existence of solutions $e^{-tΔ_λ}f(x)$ and $e^{-t\sqrt{Δ_λ}}f(x)$ of the heat and Poisson initial data problems for the Bessel operator $Δ_λ$ in $\mathbb{R}^{+}$. We also characterize the most general class of weights $v$ for which the solutions converge a.e. to $f$ for every $f\in L^{p}(v)$, with $1\le p<\infty$. Finally, we show that for such weights and $1<p<\infty$ the local maximal operators are bounded from $L^{p}(v)$ to $L^{p}(u)$, for some weight $u$.
Fix $λ>0$. Consider the Bessel operator $Δ_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x}\frac d{dx}$ on $\mathbb{R}_+:=(0,\infty)$ and the harmonic conjugacy introduced by Muckenhoupt and Stein. We provide the two-weight inequality for the Poisson operator $\mathsf{P}^{[λ]}_t=e^{-t\sqrt{Δ_λ}}$ in this Bessel setting. In particular, we prove that for a measure $μ$ on $\mathbb{R}^2_{+,+}:=(0,\infty)\times (0,\infty)$ and $σ$ on $\mathbb{R}_+$: $$ \|\mathsf{P}^{[λ]}_σ(f)\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^2_{+,+};μ)} \lesssim \|f\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}_+;σ)}, $$ if and only if testing conditions hold for the the Poisson operator …
The pointwise space-time behaviors of the Green's function and the global solution to the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck (VPFP) system in spatial three dimension are studied in this paper. It is shown that the Green's function consists of the diffusion waves decaying exponentially in time but algebraically in space, and the singular kinetic waves which become smooth for all $(t,x,v)$ when $t>0.$ Furthermore, we establish the pointwise space-time behaviors of the global solution to the nonlinear VPFP system when the initial data is not necessarily smooth in terms of the Green's function.

The pointwise space-time behaviors of the Green's function and the global solution to the modified Vlasov- Poisson-Boltzmann (mVPB) system in one-dimensional space are studied in this paper. It is shown that, the Green's function admits the diffusion wave, the Huygens's type sound wave, the singular kinetic wave and the remainder term decaying exponentially in space-time. These behaviors are similar to the Boltzmann equation (Liu and Yu in Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 57: 1543-1608, 2004). Furthermore, we establish the pointwise space-time nonlinear diffusive behaviors of the global solution to the …
In this paper we find explicit formulas for the Poisson and heat semigroups associated to the modified Bessel operator and on the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb{H}^n$.
We revisit the proof of Landau damping near stable homogenous equilibria of Vlasov-Poisson systems with screened interactions in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^d$ (for $d\geq3$) that was first established by Bedrossian, Masmoudi and Mouhot. Our proof follows a Lagrangian approach and relies on precise pointwise in time dispersive estimates in the physical space for the linearized problem that should be of independent interest. This allows to cut down the smoothness of the initial data required in Bedrossian at al. (roughly, we only need Lipschitz regularity). Moreover, the time decay estimates we…
The Cauchy problem of the bipolar Navier-Stokes-Poisson system (1.1) in dimension three is considered. We obtain the pointwise estimates of the time-asymptotic shape of the solution, which exhibit generalized Huygens' principle as the Navier-Stokes system. This phenomenon is the the most important difference from the unipolar Navier-Stokes-Poisson system. Due to non-conservative structure of the system (1.1) and interplay of two carriers which counteracts the influence of electric field (a nonlocal term), some new observations are essential for the proof. We make full use of the conservative s…
In this paper, we study Bessel operators and Bessel Laplace equations studied by Weinstein, Huber, and related the harmonic function theory introduced by Muckenhoupt--Stein. We establish the Moser type inequality for these harmonic functions, which is missing in this setting before. We then apply it to give a direct proof for the equivalence of characterizations of the Hardy spaces associated to Bessel operator via non-tangential maximal function and radial maximal function defined in terms of the Poisson semigroup.
In this paper, we work in the setting of Bessel operators and Bessel Laplace equations studied by Weinstein, Huber, and the harmonic function theory in this setting introduced by Muckenhoupt--Stein, especially the generalised Cauchy--Riemann equations and the conjugate harmonic functions. We provide the equivalent characterizations of product Hardy spaces associated with Bessel operators in terms of the Bessel Riesz transforms, non-tangential and radial maximal functions defined via Poisson and heat semigroups, based on the atomic decomposition, the extension of Merryfield's result which conne…
A representation of the sharp coefficient in a pointwise estimate for the gradient of the generalized Poisson integral of a function $f$ on ${\mathbb R}^n$ is obtained under the assumption that $f$ belongs to $L^p$. The explicit value of the coefficient is found for the cases $p=1$ and $p=2$.
Space-time behaviors for 3D compressible bipolar Navier-Stokes-Poisson system (BNSP) with unequal viscosities are given. The space-time estimate of electric field $\nablaϕ$ is the most important thing when deducing generalized Huygens' principle for BNSP since this estimate only can be obtained by $\nablaϕ=\frac{\nabla}Δ(ρ-n)$ from the Poisson equation. Thus, it requires to prove that the space-time estimate of $ρ-n$ only contains diffusion wave. The appearance of these unequal coefficients results that one cannot follow ideas for the special case, where the original system was rewritten as a …
Let $λ>0$ and $\triangle_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x} \frac d{dx}$ be the Bessel operator on $\mathbb R_+:=(0,\infty)$. We show that the oscillation operator ${\mathcal O(P^{[λ]}_\ast)}$ and variation operator ${\mathcal V}_ρ(P^{[λ]}_\ast)$ of the Poisson semigroup $\{P^{[λ]}_t\}_{t>0}$ associated with $Δ_λ$ are both bounded on $L^p(\mathbb R_+, dm_λ)$ for $p\in(1, \infty)$, $BMO({{\mathbb R}_+},dm_λ)$, from $L^1({{\mathbb R}_+},dm_λ)$ to $L^{1,\,\infty}({{\mathbb R}_+},dm_λ)$, and from $H^1({{\mathbb R}_+},dm_λ)$ to $L^1({{\mathbb R}_+},dm_λ)$, where $ρ\in(2, \infty)$ and $dm_λ(x):=x^{2λ…
We prove a local existence and uniqueness result for the non-relativistic and relativistic Vlasov-Poisson system for data which need not even be continuous. The corresponding solutions preserve all the standard conserved quantities and are constant along their pointwise defined characteristic flow so that these solutions are suitable for the stability analysis of not necessarily smooth steady states. They satisfy the well-known continuation criterion and are global in the non-relativistic case. The only unwanted requirement on the data is that they be spherically symmetric.
This survey is a slightly extended version of the lecture given by the author at the \emph{VI International Course of Mathematical Analysis in Andaluc\'ıa} (CIDAMA), in September 2014. Most results are contained (in a slightly less general setting) in the earlier paper [3] (Garrigós, Hartzstein, Signes, Torrea and Viviani, Pointwise convergence to initial data of heat and Laplace equations, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 368 (9) (2016), 6575-6600).
In this paper a nonlinear Euler-Poisson-Darboux system is considered. In a first part, we proved the genericity of the hypergeometric functions in the development of exact solutions for such a system in some special cases leading to Bessel type differential equations. Next, a finite difference schemle in two-dimensional case has been developed. The continuous system is transformed into an algebraic quasi linear discrete one leading to generalized Lyapunov-Sylvester operators. The discrete algebraic system is proved to be uniquely solvable, stable and convergent based on Lyapunov criterion of s…
In this note, we give a simple proof of the pointwise BMO estimate for Poisson's equation. Then the Calderón-Zygmund estimate follows by the interpolation and duality.
We analyze the $s$-dependence of solutions $u_s$ to the family of fractional Poisson problems $(-Δ)^s u =f$ in $Ω$, $u \equiv 0$ on $\mathbb{R}^N\setminus Ω$ in an open bounded set $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$, $s \in (0,1)$. In the case where $Ω$ is of class $C^2$ and $f \in C^α(\barΩ)$ for some $α>0$, we show that the map $(0,1) \to L^\infty(Ω)$, $s\mapsto u_s$ is of class $C^1$, and we characterize the derivative $\partial_s u_s$ in terms of the logarithmic Laplacian of $f$. As a corollary, we derive pointwise monotonicity properties of the solution map $s \mapsto u_s$ under suitable assumptions…
In this paper we characterize the discrete Hölder spaces by means of the heat and Poisson semigroups associated to the discrete Laplacian. These characterizations allow us to get regularity properties of fractional powers of the discrete Laplacian and the Bessel potentials along these spaces and also in the discrete Zygmund spaces in a more direct way than using the pointwise definition of the spaces. To obtain our results, it has been crucial to get boundedness properties of the heat and Poisson kernels and their derivatives in both space and time variables. We believe that these estimates ar…
We prove that the mild solution to a semilinear stochastic evolution equation on a Hilbert space, driven by either a square integrable martingale or a Poisson random measure, is (jointly) continuous, in a suitable topology, with respect to the initial datum and all coefficients. In particular, if the leading linear operators are maximal (quasi-)monotone and converge in the strong resolvent sense, the drift and diffusion coefficients are uniformly Lipschitz continuous and converge pointwise, and the initial data converge, then the solutions converge.
The fractional Laplacian can be obtained as a Dirichlet-to-Neumann map via an extension problem to the upper half space. In this paper we prove the same type of characterization for the fractional powers of second order partial differential operators in some class. We also get a Poisson formula and a system of Cauchy-Riemann equations for the extension. The method is applied to the fractional harmonic oscillator $H^σ=(-Δ+|x|^2)^σ$ to deduce a Harnack's inequality. A pointwise formula for $H^σf(x)$ and some maximum and comparison principles are derived.
