Classical chaos is often characterized as exponential divergence of nearby trajectories. In many interesting cases these trajectories can be identified with geodesic curves. We define here the entropy by $S = \ln χ(x)$ with $χ(x)$ being the distance between two nearby geodesics. We derive an equation for the entropy which by transformation to a Ricatti-type equation becomes similar to the Jacobi equation. We further show that the geodesic equation for a null geodesic in a double warped space time leads to the same entropy equation. By applying a Robertson-Walker metric for a flat three-dimensional Euclidian space expanding as a function of time, we again reach the entropy equation stressing the connection between the chosen entropy measure and time. We finally turn to the Raychaudhuri equation for expansion, which also is a Ricatti equation similar to the transformed entropy equation. Those Ricatti-type equations have solutions of the same form as the Jacobi equation. The Raychaudhuri equation can be transformed to a harmonic oscillator equation, and it has been shown that the geodesic deviation equation of Jacobi is essentially equivalent to that of a harmonic oscillator. The Raychaudhuri equations are strong geometrical tools in the study of General Relativity and Cosmology. We suggest a refined entropy measure applicable in Cosmology and defined by the average deviation of the geodesics in a congruence.
Introducing a variable cosmological function $Λ(t)$ in a geometrical manner from a 5D Riemann-flat metric, we investigate the possibility of having a geometrical criterion to choose a suitable cosmological function $Λ(t)$ for every 4D dynamical hypersurface capable of generate phantom cosmologies.
We give a pedagogical review of a covariant and fully non-perturbative approach to study nonlinear perturbations in cosmology. In the first part, devoted to cosmological fluids, we define a nonlinear extension of the uniform-density curvature perturbation and derive its evolution equation. In the second part, we focus our attention on multiple scalar fields and present a nonlinear description in terms of adiabatic and entropy perturbations. In both cases, we show how the formalism presented here enables one to easily obtain equations up to second, third and higher orders.
We apply the full set of most update dynamical and geometrical data in cosmology to the nonextensive Barrow entropic holographic dark energy. We show that the data point towards an extensive Gibbs-like entropic behaviour for the cosmological horizons, which is the extreme case of the Barrow entropy, with the entropy parameter being $Δ> 0.86$, close to the maximum threshold of $Δ=1$ where the fractal dimension of the area-horizon becomes almost or just the volume and the intensivity is recovered. Futhermore, we find that the standard Bekenstein area-entropy limit ($Δ= 0$) is excluded by the set…
We discuss a cyclic cosmology in which the visible universe, or introverse, is all that is accessible to an observer while the extroverse represents the total spacetime originating from the time when the dark energy began to dominate. It is argued that entanglement entropy of the introverse is the more appropriate quantity to render infinitely cyclic, rather than the entropy of the total universe. Since vanishing entanglement entropy implies disconnected spacetimes, at the turnaround when the introverse entropy is zero the disconnected extroverse can be jettisoned with impunity.
We outline the key-steps towards the construction of a physical, fully relativistic cosmology, in which we aim to trace Dark Energy and Dark Matter back to physical properties of space. The influence of inhomogeneities on the effective evolution history of the Universe is encoded in backreaction terms and expressed through spatially averaged geometrical invariants. These are absent and interpreted as missing dark fundamental sources in the standard model. In the inhomogeneous case they can be interpreted as energies of an emerging scalar field (the morphon). These averaged invariants vanish fo…
In this paper, it is shown that the relative entropy is an increasing function of time in both the linear regime and the non-linear regime during the large scale structure formation in cosmology.
We propose a new four-parameter entropy function that generalizes the Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. Consequently, we address the early and late universe cosmology corresponding to the proposed four-parameter entropy function. As a result, it turns out that the entropic cosmology from the generalized entropy function can unify the early inflation to the late dark energy era of the universe. In such a unified scenario, we find that -- (1) the inflation era is described by a quasi de-Sitter evolution of …
Raychaudhuri equation is derived by assuming geometric flow in spacetime M of n+1 dimensions. The equation turns into a harmonic oscillator form under suitable transformations.Thereby a relation between geometrical entropy and mean geodesic deviation is established. This has a connection to chaos theory where the trajectories diverge exponentially. We discuss its application to cosmology and black holes. Thus we present a connection between chaos theory and general relativity.
We address how to construct an infinitely cyclic universe model. A major consideration is to make the entropy cyclic which requires the entropy to be reset to zero in each cycle expansion to turnaround, to contraction, to bounce, etc. Here we reset entropy at the turnaround by selecting the introverse (visible universe) from the extroverse which is generated by the accelerated expansion. In the model, the observed homogeneity is explained by the low entropy at the bounce, The observed flatness arises from the contraction together with the reduction in size between the expanding and contracting…
I discuss the statistical mechanics of gravitating systems and in particular its cosmological implications, and argue that many conventional views on this subject in the foundations of statistical mechanics embody significant confusion; I attempt to provide a clearer and more accurate account. In particular, I observe that (i) the role of gravity \emph{in} entropy calculations must be distinguished from the entropy \emph{of} gravity, that (ii) although gravitational collapse is entropy-increasing, this is not usually because the collapsing matter itself increases in entropy, and that (iii) the…
The probability representation of quantum mechanics including propagators and tomograms of quantum states of the universe and its application to quantum gravity and cosmology are reviewed. The minisuperspaces modeled by oscillator, free pointlike particle and repulsive oscillator are considered. The notion of tomographic entropy and its properties are used to find some inequalities for the tomographic probability determining the quantum state of the universe. The sense of the inequality as a lower bound for the entropy is clarified.
In this work, we use an observational approach and dynamical system analysis to study the cosmological model recently proposed by Saridakis (2020), which is based on the modification of the entropy-area black hole relation proposed by Barrow (2020). The Friedmann equations governing the dynamics of the Universe under this entropy modification can be calculated through the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture. We investigate two models, one considering only a matter component and the other including matter and radiation, which have new terms compared to the standard model sourcing the late cosmic …
This work is to study the generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics in tachyon cosmology where the boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by a dynamical apparent horizon. The model is constrained with the observational data. The two logarithmic and power law corrected entropy is also discussed and conditions to validate the GSL and corrected entropies are obtained.
We study the entropy-corrected version of the holographic dark energy (HDE) model in the framework of modified FRW cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous entropy-corrected HDE (ECHDE) with dark matter. We also include the case of variable gravitational constant G in our model. We obtain the equation of state and the deceleration parameters of the interacting viscous ECHDE. Moreover, we reconstruct the potential and the dynamics of the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence and dilaton scalar field models according to the evolutionary behavior of the interacting…
Loop Quantum Cosmology is an appealing quantum completion of classical cosmology, which brings along various theoretical features which in many cases offer remedy or modify various classical cosmology aspects. In this paper we address the gravitational baryogenesis mechanism in the context of Loop Quantum Cosmology. As we demonstrate, when Loop Quantum Cosmology effects are taken into account in the resulting Friedmann equations for a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe, then even for a radiation dominated Universe, the predicted baryon-to-entropy ratio from the gravitational baryogenesis…
We apply the first law of thermodynamics to the apparent horizon of the universe with the power-law corrected and non-extensive Tsallis entropies rather than the Bekenstein-Hawking one. We examine the cosmological properties in the two entropy models by using the CosmoMC package. In particular, the first numerical study for the cosmological observables with the power-law corrected entropy is performed. We also show that the neutrino mass sum has a non-zero central value with a relaxed upper bound in the Tsallis entropy model comparing with that in the $Λ$CDM one.
In the framework of Brans-Dicke cosmology, we have studied the interacting power-law and logarithmic entropy-corrected holographic dark energy models with different cut-offs. The Brans-Dicke parameter is investigated versus the conditions for the acceleration and phantom phases to show that which entropy corrected model can exhibit acceleration with or without the phantom phase at early and present time universes. Moreover, the classical stability or instability of the interacting power-law and logarithmic entropy-corrected holographic dark energy models with different cut-offs is determined a…
The covariant entropy bound conjecture is an important hint for the quantum gravity, with several versions available in the literature. For cosmology, Ashtekar and Wilson-Ewing ever show the consistence between the loop gravity theory and one version of this conjecture. Recently, S. He and H. Zhang proposed a version for the dynamical horizon of the universe, which validates the entropy bound conjecture for the cosmology filled with perfect fluid in the classical scenario when the universe is far away from the big bang singularity. However, their conjecture breaks down near big bang region. We…
We study the scenario of Kanadiakis horizon entropy cosmology which arises from the application of the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture using the Kaniadakis modified entropy. The resulting modified Friedmann equations contain extra terms that constitute an effective dark energy sector. We use data from Cosmic chronometers, Supernova Type Ia, HII galaxies, Strong lensing systems, and Baryon acoustic oscillations observations and we apply a Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis to construct the likelihood contours for the model parameters. We find that the Kaniadakis parameter is constrain…
In this paper, the generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics and entropy is revisited in the context of cosmological models with bouncing behavior such as chameleon cosmology where the boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon. From a thermodynamic point of view, to link between thermodynamic and geometric parameters in cosmological models, we introduce "entropy rate of change multiplied by the temperature" as a model independent thermodynamic state parameter together with the well known $\{r,s \}$ statefinder to differentiate the dark energy mod…
We present a class of general prolate and oblate spheroidal spacetimes for the description of cosmic structures in the Universe. They are exact geometries which represent, in an appropriated way, the imbedding of spheroidal matter-energy distributions within a standard cosmological scenario, and therefore they allow for an improved description of a wider class of astrophysical systems from a more accurate point of view. These spacetimes can be used to describe overdensity or underdensity regions; in this work we consider the last case, that is, the description of cosmic voids. We introduce and…
Resent works of Hawking and Susskind suggested that information is conserved in the universe. We extend this thesis and propose that dynamics of information - computations can conserve in Anti-de-Sitter cosmological model. Information geometry formalism is proposed to analyze information in dynamical systems. We consider entropy flow as a geometrical flow on statistical manifold and develop a Dynamic Cores model to analyze migration of information in dynamical systems. Geometrical flow on the statistical manifold was considered as a transition of local dynamical systems in original d+1-dim AdS…
In this paper we show that Quiescent Cosmology [1, 2, 3] is consistent with Penrose's Weyl Curvature Hypothesis and the notion of gravitational entropy [4]. Gravitational entropy, from a conceptual point of view, acts in an opposite fashion to the more familiar notion of entropy. A closed system of gravitating particles will coalesce whereas a collection of gas particles will tend to diffuse; regarding increasing entropy, these two scenarios are identical. What has been shown previously [2, 3] is that gravitational entropy at the initial singularity predicted by Quiescent Cosmology - the Isotr…
It has been suggested that wormholes and other non-trivial geometrical structures might have been formed during the quantum cosmological era ($t\sim 10^{-43}$s). Subsequent inflation of the universe might have enlarged these structures to macroscopic sizes. In this paper, spherical geometrical structures in an inflationary RW background are derived from the Einstein equations, using a constraint on the energy-momentum tensor which is an extension of the one expected for inflation. The possibility of dynamical wormholes and other spherical structures are explored in the framework of the solutio…
Entropic cosmology assumes several forms of entropy on the horizon of the universe, where the entropy can be considered to behave as if it were related to the exchange (the transfer) of energy. To discuss this exchangeability, the consistency of the two continuity equations obtained from two different methods is examined, focusing on a homogeneous, isotropic, spatially flat, and matter-dominated universe. The first continuity equation is derived from the first law of thermodynamics, whereas the second equation is from the Friedmann and acceleration equations. To study the influence of forms of…
We study the entropy-corrected version of the new agegraphic dark energy (NADE) model and dark matter in a spatially non-flat Universe and in the framework of Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology. For the two cases containing noninteracting and interacting entropy-corrected NADE (ECNADE) models, we derive the exact differential equation that determines the evolution of the ECNADE density parameter. Also the deceleration parameter is obtained. Furthermore, using a parametrization of the equation of state parameter of the ECNADE model as $ω_Λ(z)=ω_0+ω_1 z$, we obtain both $ω_0$ and $ω_1$. We find that in t…

The growing interest of different entropy functions proposed so far (like the Bekenstein-Hawking, Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies) towards black hole thermodynamics as well as towards cosmology lead to the natural question that whether there exists a generalized entropy function that can generalize all these known entropies. With this spirit, we propose a new 4-parameter entropy function that seems to converge to the aforementioned known entropies for certain limits of the entropic parameters. The proposal of generalized entropy is extended …
Determining cosmological field equations represents a still very debated matter and implies a wide discussion around different theoretical proposals. A suitable conceptual scheme could be represented by gravity models that naturally generalize Einstein Theory like higher order gravity theories and higher dimensional ones. Both of these two different approaches allow to define, at the effective level, Einstein field equations equipped with source-like energy momentum tensors of geometrical origin. In this paper, it is discussed the possibility to develop a five dimensional fourth order gravity …
The brick wall method in calculations of the entropy of black holes can be applied to the FRW cosmology in order to study the statistical entropy. An appropriate cutoff satisfying the covariant entropy bound can be chosen so that the entropy has a definite bound. Among the entropy for each of cosmological eras, the vacuum energy-dominated era turns out to give the maximal entropy which is in fact compatible with assumptions from the brick wall method.
Non-additive entropies have been proposed as alternatives to understanding the thermodynamics of Black Holes. Moreover, it has been suggested that the difficulties of quantization of gravity are an indication that gravity is an emergent phenomenon, and therefore an entropic formulation is warranted. In this work, we explore cosmologies that come from non-additive entropies. We focus our study on the cosmologies derived from entropies in superstatistics.
We present the graviton propagator for an infinite derivative, $D$-dimensional, non-local action, up to quadratic order in curvature around a Minkowski background, and discuss the conditions required for this class of gravity theory to be ghost-free. We then study the gravitational entropy for de-Sitter and Anti-de Sitter backgrounds, before comparing with a recently derived result for a Schwarzschild blackhole, generalised to arbitrary $D$-dimensions, whereby the entropy is given simply by the area law. A novel approach of decomposing the entropy into its $(r, t)$ and spherical components is …
Using a recently introduced 5D Riemann flat metric, we investigate the possibility of introducing dissipation in the dynamics of the inflaton field on an effective 4D FRW metric, in the framework of the STM theory of gravity.
In this paper, we study the Power Law Entropy Corrected Holographic Dark Energy (PLECHDE) model in the framework of a non-flat Universe and of Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology with infrared cut-off given by recently proposed Granda-Oliveros cut-off, which contains one term proportional to the Hubble parameter squared $H^2$ and one term proportional to the first time derivative of the Hubble parameter $\dot{H}$. Moreover, this cut-off is characterized by two constant parameters, $α$ and $β$. For the two cases corresponding to non-interacting and interacting DE and Dark Matter (DM), we derive the evolu…
Using the corrected entropy-area relation motivated by the loop quantum gravity, we investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in the framework of modified FRW cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous dark energy with dark matter and radiation. The boundary of the universe is assumed to be the dynamical apparent horizon. We find out that the generalized second law is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe for any spatial curvature regardless of the dark energy model.
We analyze the thermodynamical consistency of entropic-force cosmological models. Our analysis is based on a generalized entropy scaling with an arbitrary power of the Hubble radius. The Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, proportional to the area, and the nonadditive $S_{δ=3/2}$-entropy, proportional to the volume, are particular cases. One of the points to be solved by entropic-force cosmology for being taken as a serious alternative to mainstream cosmology is to provide a physical principle that points out what entropy and temperature have to be used. We determine the temperature of the universe ho…
The necessary information to distinguish a local inhomogeneous mass density field from its spatial average on a compact domain of the universe can be measured by relative information entropy. The Kullback-Leibler (KL) formula arises very naturally in this context, however, it provides a very complicated way to compute the mutual information between spatially separated but causally connected regions of the universe in a realistic, inhomogeneous model. To circumvent this issue, by considering a parametric extension of the KL measure, we develop a simple model to describe the mutual information w…
We apply the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture, namely the first law of thermodynamics on the Universe horizon, but using the generalized Kaniadakis entropy instead of the standard Bekenstein-Hawking one. The former is a one-parameter generalization of the classical Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon entropy, arising from a coherent and self-consistent relativistic statistical theory. We obtain new modified cosmological scenarios, namely modified Friedmann equations, which contain new extra terms that constitute an effective dark energy sector depending on the single model Kaniadakis parameter $K$. We in…
Cosmological adiabatic particle creation results in the generation of irreversible entropy. The evolution of this entropy is examined in a flat Friedmann--Robertson--Walker universe at late times, using a dissipative model with a power-law term (proportional to the power of the Hubble parameter $H$). In a dissipative universe, the irreversible entropy included in the Hubble volume is found to be proportional to $H^{-1}$, unlike for the case of the Bekenstein--Hawking entropy on the horizon of the universe. In addition, the evolution of the horizon entropy is examined, extending the previous an…
Taking into account a fractal structure for the black hole horizon, Barrow argued that the area law of entropy is modified due to quantum-gravitational effects (Barrow in Phys Lett B 808:135643, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.physletb.2020.135643, 2020). Accordingly, the corrected entropy takes the form $S \sim A^{1+\mathrmΔ/2}$, where $0\leq\mathrmΔ\leq1$, indicates the amount of the quantum-gravitational deformation effects. In this paper, based on Barrow entropy, we first derive the modified gravitational field equations through the Clausius relation. We then consider the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robe…
We propose a new five-parameter entropy function that proves to be singular-free during the entire cosmic evolution of the universe, and at the same time, also generalizes the Tsallis, Barrow, Rényi, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. In particular, all the above mentioned known entropies become singular (or diverge) when the Hubble parameter vanishes in course of the universe's evolution (for instance, in bounce cosmology at the instant of bounce), while the newly proposed entropy function seems to be singular-free even at $H = …
The thermodynamic behavior of a decaying vacuum cosmology describing the entire cosmological history evolving between two extreme (early and late time) de Sitter eras is investigated. The thermal evolution from the early de Sitter to the radiation phase is discussed in detail. The temperature evolution law and the increasing entropy function are analytically determined. The entropy of the effectively massless particles is initially zero but evolves continuously to the present day maximum value within the current Hubble radius, $S_0 \sim 10^{88}$ in natural units. By using the Gibbons-Hawking t…
Using general features of recent quantizations of the Hamiltonian constraint in loop quantum gravity and loop quantum cosmology, a dynamical interpretation of the constraint equation as evolution equation is presented. This involves a transformation from the connection to a dreibein representation and the selection of an internal time variable. Due to the discrete nature of geometrical quantities in loop quantum gravity also time turns out to be discrete leading to a difference rather than differential evolution equation. Furthermore, evolving observables are discussed in this framework which …
We discuss how entropy bounds, which are not respected in the standard cosmology, constrain the parameters of a previously suggested cosmology with a finite total mass. In that alternative cosmology the matter density was postulated to be a spatial delta function at the time of the big bang thereafter diffusing rapidly outward with constant total mass. Also discussed here are some related issues including the cosmic onion question, the information content of the universe, and the question of whether light trapping regions exist on a cosmic scale.
We extend the disformal transformation to models with two scalar fields and look at its singular limit. Solving the eigentensor equation for the Jacobian of the transformation of the metrics we find the two-field extension of the mimetic scenario in the singular conformal limit. At the background level the setup mimics the roles of dark matter cosmology. We decompose the perturbations into the adiabatic and entropy modes in which the adiabatic perturbation is tangential to the classical trajectory while the entropy mode is perpendicular to it. We show that the adiabatic mode is frozen while th…
We outline the key-steps toward the construction of a physical, fully relativistic cosmology. The influence of inhomogeneities on the effective evolution history of the Universe is encoded in backreaction terms and expressed through spatially averaged geometrical invariants. These are absent and potential candidates for the missing dark sources in the standard model. Since they can be interpreted as energies of an emerging scalar field (the morphon), we are in the position to propose a strategy of how phenomenological scalar field models for Dark Energy, Dark Matter and Inflation, that are usu…
We investigate the cosmological consequences of the modified Friedmann equations when the entropy associated with the apparent horizon, given by Barrow entropy, $S\sim A^{1+δ/2}$, where $0\leqδ\leq1$, represents the amount of the quantum-gravitational deformation of the horizon. We study implications of this model in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with/without cosmological constant. Taking the cosmological constant into account, this model can describe the current accelerated expansion, although the transition from deceleration phase to the acceleration phase takes place in t…
We present modified cosmological scenarios that arise from the application of the "gravity-thermodynamics" conjecture, using the Barrow entropy instead of the usual Bekenstein-Hawking one. The former is a modification of the black hole entropy due to quantum-gravitational effects that deform the black-hole horizon by giving it an intricate, fractal structure. We extract modified cosmological equations which contain new extra terms that constitute an effective dark-energy sector, and which coincide with the usual Friedmann equations in the case where the new Barrow exponent acquires its Bekenst…
The area of a future holographic screen increases monotonically. Associating this area with entropy results in a generalized second law for Cosmology (GSLC). Unlike black hole horizons, screens relevant to Cosmology have no thermodynamical interpretation. We suggest relating the entropy of the screens to spacetime degrees of freedom surface density derived from a (seemingly) phase space. This construction enables us to identify the entropy of any holographic screen as the entropy detected by accelerating observers due to their acceleration. Using Unruh's temperature and the equivalence princip…
The effective evolution of an inhomogeneous cosmological model may be described in terms of spatially averaged variables. We point out that in this context, quite naturally, a measure arises which is identical to a fluid model of the `Kullback-Leibler Relative Information Entropy', expressing the distinguishability of the local inhomogeneous mass density field from its spatial average on arbitrary compact domains. We discuss the time-evolution of `effective information' and explore some implications. We conjecture that the information content of the Universe -- measured by Relative Information…
We employ the extended 1+3 orthonormal frame formalism for fluid spacetime geometries $({\cal M}, {\bf g}, {\bf u})$, which contains the Bianchi field equations for the Weyl curvature, to derive a 44-D evolution system of first-order symmetric hyperbolic form for a set of geometrically defined dynamical field variables. Describing the matter source fields phenomenologically in terms of a barotropic perfect fluid, the propagation velocities $v$ (with respect to matter-comoving observers that Fermi-propagate their spatial reference frames) of disturbances in the matter and the gravitational fiel…
In the realm of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, the thermodynamics of apparent horizon bridges with the usual FLRW (Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker) equation only for a special case where the matter field is given by a perfect fluid having equation of state (EoS) parameter $= -1$, i.e $p = -ρ$ with $ρ$ and $p$ represent the energy density and the pressure of the fluid, respectively. To include the case $p \neq -ρ$, we consider the modification of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the present work. In particular, we develop an entropy function that leads to the usual FLRW equations, for a $…
