The general stationary cylindrically symmetric solution of Einstein-massless scalar field system with a non-positive cosmological constant is presented. It is shown that the general solution is characterized by four integration constants. Two of these essential parameters have a local meaning and characterize the gravitational field strength. The other two have a topological origin, as they define an improper coordinate transformation that provides the stationary solution from the static one. The Petrov scheme is considered to explore the effects of the scalar field on the algebraic classification of the solutions. In general, these spacetimes are of type I. However, the presence of the scalar field allows us to find a non-vacuum type O solution and a wider family of type D spacetimes, in comparison with the vacuum case. The mass and angular momentum of the solution are computed using the Regge-Teitelboim method in the case of a negative cosmological constant. In absence of a cosmological constant, the curvature singularities in the vacuum solutions can be removed by including a phantom scalar field, yielding non-trivial locally homogeneous spacetimes. These spacetimes are of particular interest, as they have all their curvature invariants constant.
Here we describe a stationary cylindrically symmetric solution of Einstein's equation with matter consisting of a positive cosmological and rotating dust term. The solution approaches Einstein static universe solution.
In this article a new stationary cylindrically symmetric solution of the Einstein's field equations with cosmological constant and Time machine is given. The garavitational field is created by ideal liquid with three massless scalar fields or by ideal liquid with electric-magnetic field and massless scalar field.
The derivation of the general solutions for stationary and static cylindrically symmetric Einstein spaces of Lewis form is revisited and the physical and geometrical meaning of the parameters appearing in the resulting solutions are investigated. It is shown that three of the parameters (and the value of the cosmological constant) are essential, of which one characterizes the local gravitational field and appears in the Cartan scalars, while the remaining two give information about the topological identification made to produce cylindrical symmetry. Other than the cosmological constant, they c…
In this article we present a new exact solution for scalar field with cosmological constant in cylindrical symmetry. Associated cosmological models is discussed. One of them describes a Cyclic universe.
Four-dimensional cylindrically symmetric spacetimes with homothetic self-similarity are studied in the context of Einstein's Theory of Gravity, and a class of exact solutions to the Einstein-massless scalar field equations is found. Their local and global properties are investigated and found that they represent gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field. In some cases the collapse forms black holes with cylindrical symmetry, while in the other cases it does not. The linear perturbations of these solutions are also studied and given in closed form. From the spectra of the unstable eigen…
Dirac's constraint analysis and the symplectic structure of geodesic equations are obtained for the general cylindrically symmetric stationary spacetime. For this metric, using the obtained first order Lagrangian, the geodesic equations of motion are integrated, and found some solutions for Lewis, Levi-Civita, and Van Stockum spacetimes.
Starting from the stationary cylindrically symmetric solution, but with the coordinates $z$ and $ϕ$ interchanged, and supposing that it could describe the vacuum spacetime of a translating cylinder, we investigate its physical and geometrical properties. This hypothesis is not entirely new since it has already been considered in a previous paper describing a translating source. We show that this metric is geometrically related to the vacuum field produced by a stationary rotating cylindrical source{, known as Lewis solution. However, we find new physical properties, different from those of the…
The aim of this paper is to examine some obtained exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations, especially their properties from a chronological point of view. Each our spacetime is stationary cylindrically symmetric and it is filled up with an perfect fluid that is electrically charged. There are two classes of solutions and examples of each of them are investigated. We give examples of the first class both for the vanishing as well as for the non-vanishing Lorentz force.
We consider the existence of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton plus fluid system for the case of stationary cylindrically symmetric spacetimes. An exact inhomogeneous $ ε$-order solution is found, where the parameter $ε$ parametrizes the non-minimally coupled electromagnetic field. Some its physical attributes are investigated and a connection with already known Gödel-type solution is given. It is shown that the found solution also survives in the string-inspired charged gravity framework. We find that a magnetic field has positive influence on the chronology violation unlike the dilaton influence.
Here I present a stationary cylindrically symmetric asymptotically Einstein static universe solution with the matter consisting of a cosmological and rotating dust term which admits predicted black hole event horizon.
We revisit two-point function approaches used to study vacuum fluctuation in wedge-shaped regions and conical backgrounds. Appearance of divergent integrals is discussed and circumvented. The issue is considered in the context of a massless scalar field in cosmic string spacetime.
We present here three new solutions of Brans-Dicke theory for a stationary geometry with cylindrical symmetry in the presence of matter in rigid rotation with $T^μ_μ\neq 0$. All the solutions have eternal closed timelike curves in some region of the spacetime, the size of which depends on $ω$. Moreover, two of them do not go over a solution of general relativity in the limit $ω\to \infty$.
A scalar field generalization of Xanthopoulos's cylindrically symmetric solutions of the vacuum Einstein equation is obtained. The obtained solution preserves the properties of the Xanthopoulos solution, which are regular on the axis, asymptotically flat and free from the curvature singularities. The solution describes stable, infinite length of rotating cosmic string interacting with gravitational and scalar waves.
Higher dimensional, static, cylindrically symmetric vacuum solutions with and without a cosmological constant in the Brans-Dicke theory are presented. We show that, for a negative cosmological constant and for specific values of the parameters, a particular subclass of these solutions include higher dimensional topological black hole-type solutions with a flat horizon topology. We briefly extend our discussion to stationary vacuum and $Λ-$vacuum solutions.
It is shown that the existence of static, cylindrically symmetric wormholes does not require violation of the weak or null energy conditions near the throat, and cylindrically symmetric wormhole geometries can appear with less exotic sources than wormholes whose throats have a spherical topology. Examples of exact wormhole solutions are given with scalar, spinor and electromagnetic fields as sources, and these fields are not necessarily phantom. In particular, there are wormhole solutions for a massless, minimally coupled scalar field in the presence of a negative cosmological constant, and fo…
We present higher-dimensional generalizations of the Buchdahl and Janis-Robinson-Winicour transformations which generate static solutions in the Einstein-Maxwell system with a massless scalar field. While the former adds a nontrivial scalar field to a vacuum solution, the latter generates a charged solution from a neutral one with the same scalar field. Applying these transformations to (i) a static solution with an Einstein base manifold, (ii) a multi-center solution, and (iii) a four-dimensional cylindrically symmetric solution, we construct several new exact solutions.
Charged perfect fluid with vanishing Lorentz force and massless scalar field is studied in the case of stationary cylindrically symmetric spacetime. The scalar field can depend both on radial and longitudinal coordinates. Solutions are found and classified according to scalar field gradient and magnetic field relationship. Their physical and geometrical properties are examined and discussion of particular cases, directly generalizing Gödel-type spacetimes, is presented.
In the present article we find a new class of solutions of Einstein's field equations. It describes stationary, cylindrically symmetric spacetimes with closed timelike geodesics everywhere outside the symmetry axis. These spacetimes contain a magnetic field parallel to the axis, a perfect fluid with constant density and pressure, and Lorentz invariant vacuum with energy density represented by a negative cosmological constant.
Cylindrically symmetric stationary spacetimes are examined in the framework of string-inpired generalized theory of gravity. In four dimensions this theory contains a dilatonic scalar field in addition to gravity. A charged perfect fluid representing fermionic matter is also considered. Explicit solution is given and a discussion of the geometrical properties of the solutions found is carried out.
In this article we partially implement the program outlined in the previous paper of the authors [A. V. Aminova and P. I. Chumarov, Phys. Rev. D 88, 044005 (2013)]. The program owes its origins to the following comment in paper [M. Cvetič and D. Youm, Nucl. Phys. B, 438, 182 (1995), Addendum-ibid. 449,146 (1995)], where a class of static spherically symmetric solutions in $(4+n)$-dimensional Kaluza--Klein theory was studied: "...We suspect that the same thing [as for spherical symmetry] will happen for axially symmetric stationary configurations, but it remains to be proven". We study the radi…
In terms of gravitational solitons, we study gravitational non-linear effects of gravitational solitary waves such as Faraday rotation. Applying the Pomeransky's procedure for inverse scattering method, which has been recently used for constructing stationary black hole solutions in five dimensions to a cylindrical spacetime in four dimensions, we construct a new cylindrically symmetric soliton solution. This is the first example to be applied to the cylindrically symmetric case. In particular, we clarify the difference from the Tomimatsu's single soliton solution, which was constructed by the…
Any interior solution for a cylindrically symmetric, stationary cosmic string with flat exterior, spinning around its longitudinal axis, and without internal longitudinal currents ($g_{zz}=1$, $g_{tz}=0$), must somewhere violate the weak energy condition of standard general relativity. Existing interior solutions may be readily fixed by adding mass to the string above that generating its angular deficit, but at the cost of introducing an exterior gravitational field.
Non stationary cylindrically symmetric exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations are derived as single soliton perturbations of a Levi-Civita metric, by an application of Alekseev inverse scattering method. We show that the metric derived by L. Witten, interpreted as describing the electrogravitational field of a straight, stationary, conducting wire may be recovered in the limit of a `wide' soliton. This leads to the possibility of interpreting the solitonic solutions as representing a non stationary electrogravitational field exterior to, and interacting with, a thin, straight, super…
We investigate the structure of the gravitational field generated by a massless particle moving on the horizon of an arbitrary (stationary) black hole. This is done by employing the generalized Kerr-Schild class where we take the null generators of the horizon as the geodetic null vector-field and a scalar function which is concentrated on the horizon.
In this work, the field of a gravitational shockwave generated by a massless point-like particle is calculated at the event horizon of a stationary Kerr-Newman black hole. Using the geometric framework of generalized Kerr-Schild deformations in combination with the spin-coefficient formalism of Newman and Penrose, it is shown that the field equations of the theory, at the event horizon of the black hole, can be reduced to a single linear ordinary differential equation for the so-called profile function of the geometry. This differential relation is solved exactly. Based on the results obtained…
In this work the photon equation (massless Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equation) is written expilicitly for general type of stationary Gödel space-times and is solved exactly for Gödel-type and Gödel space-times. Harmonic oscillator behaviour of the solutions is discussed and energy spectrum of photon is obtained.
Rotating thin-shell-like sources for the stationary cylindrically symmetric vacuum solutions (Lewis) are constructed and studied. It is found, by imposing the non existence of timelike curves in the exterior of the shell, and that the source satisfies the weak, dominant and strong energy conditions that the parameters, commonly denoted by $a$ and $σ$, are restricted to $0 \le σ\le 1/4$ when $a > 0$, or $1/4 \le σ\le 1/2$ when $a < 0$.
We match the vacuum, stationary, cylindrically symmetric solution of Einstein's field equations with $Λ$, in a form recently given by Santos, as an exterior to an infinite cylinder of dust cut out of a Gödel universe. There are three cases, depending on the radius of the cylinder. Closed timelike curves are present in the exteriors of some of the solutions. There is a considerable similarity between the spacetimes investigated here and those of van Stockum referring to an infinite cylinder of rotating dust matched to vacuum, with $Λ=0$.
We present a stationary axially symmetric two parameter vacuum solution which could be considered as ``dual'' to the Kerr solution. It is obtained by removing the mass parameter from the function of the radial coordinate and introducing a dimensionless parameter in the function of the angle coordinate in the metric functions. It turns out that it is in fact the massless limit of the Kerr - NUT solution.
For stationary cylindrically symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equation we have shown that the "charged" solutions of McCrea, Chitre et al.(CGN), Van den Bergh and Wils (VW) can be obtained from the seed metrics using generating conjecture. The McCrea "charged" solution has as a seed vacuum metric the Van Stockum solution with a Killing vector (0,0,1,0). The CGN "charged" solution and the VW "charged" solution have the static seed metrics connected by the complex substitution (t --> iz), (z --> it) and the Killing vector which is a simple linear combination of ${\partial}_ϕ$ and ${\p…
The McGehee regularization is a method to study the singularity at the origin of the dynamical system describing a point particle in a plane moving under the action of a power-law potential. It was used by Belbruno and Pretorius to perform a dynamical system regularization of the singularity at the center of the motion of massless test particles in the Schwarzschild spacetime. In this paper, we generalize the McGehee transformation so that we can regularize the singularity at the origin of the dynamical system describing the motion of causal geodesics (timelike or null) in any stationary and s…
We give a class of explicit solutions for the stationary and cylindrically symmetric vortex configurations for a ``cool'' two-component superfluid (i.e. superfluid with an ideal gas of phonons). Each solution is characterized only by a set of (true) constants of integration. We then compute the effective asymptotic contribution of the vortex to the stress energy tensor by comparison with a uniform reference state without vortex.
As the electron in the hydrogen atom, a bosonic field can bind itself to a black hole occupying a discrete infinite set of states. When (i) the spacetime is prone to superradiance and (ii) a confinement mechanism is present, some of such states are infinitely long-lived. These equilibrium configurations, known as stationary clouds, are states "synchronized" with a rotating black hole's event horizon. For most, if not all, stationary clouds studied in the literature so far, the requirements (i)-(ii) are independent of each other. However, this is not always the case. This paper shows that massl…
The purpose of this article is twofold. First, we extend the results presented in [Gabriel Crisnejo and Emanuel Gallo, Phys.Rev.D 97, 124016 (2018)] to stationary spacetimes. Specifically, we show that the Gauss-Bonnet theorem can be applied to describe the deflection angle of light rays in plasma media in stationary spacetimes. Second, by using a correspondence between the motion of light rays in a cold non magnetized plasma and relativistic test massive particles we show that this technique is not only powerful to obtain the leading order behavior of the deflection angle of massive/massless …
We study the modifications on the metric of an isolated self-gravitating bosonic superconducting cosmic string in a scalar-tensor gravity in the weak-field approximation. These modifications are induced by an arbitrary coupling of a massless scalar field to the usual tensorial field in the gravitational Lagrangian. The metric is derived by means of a matching at the string radius with a most general static and cylindrically symmetric solution of the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar field equations. We show that this metric depends on five parameters which are related to the string's internal structure …
We suggest an alternative mathematical model for the massless neutrino. Consider an elastic continuum in 3-dimensional Euclidean space and assume that points of this continuum can experience no displacements, only rotations. This framework is a special case of the so-called Cosserat theory of elasticity. Rotations of points of the continuum are described by attaching to each point an orthonormal basis which gives a field of orthonormal bases called the coframe. As the dynamical variables (unknowns) of our theory we choose a coframe and a density. We write down a potential energy which is confo…
We study instabilities of the system composed of stationary scalar fields and asymptotically flat horizonless reflecting compact stars. In the probe limit, we obtain bounds on the scalar field frequency. Below this bound, stationary hairy stars are expected to suffer from nonlinear instabilities under massless field perturbations. In other words, we prove that stationary scalar hairy stars are unstable for scalar fields with small frequency.
I obtain an exact, axially symmetric, stationary solution of Einstein's equations for two massless spinning particles. The term representing the spin-spin interaction agrees with recently published approximate work. The spin-spin force appears to be proportional to the inverse fourth power of the coordinate distance between the particles.
The greybody factor of massless, uncharged scalar fields is studied in the background of cylindrically symmetric spacetimes, in the low-energy approximation. We discuss two cases. In the first case we derive analytical expression for the absorption probability when the spacetime is kinetically coupled with the Einstein tensor. In the second case we do the analysis in the absence of the coupling constant. For this purpose we analyze the wave equation which is obtained from Klein-Gordon equation. The radial part of the wave equation is solved in the form of the hypergeometric function in the nea…
We derive the general exact vacuum metrics associated with a stationary (non static), non rotating, cylindrically symmetric source. An analysis of the geometry described by these vacuum metrics shows that they contain a subfamily of metrics that, although admitting a consistent time orientation, display "exotic" properties, such as "trapping" of geodesics and closed causal curves through every point. The possibility that such spacetimes could be generated by a superconducting string, endowed with a neutral current and momentum, has recently been considered by Thatcher and Morgan. Our results, …
We extend the work in our earlier article [4] to show that time-periodic, asymptotically-flat solutions of the Einstein equations analytic at scri, whose source is one of a range of scalar-field models, are necessarily stationary. We also show that, for some of these scalar-field sources, in stationary, asymptotically-flat solutions analytic at scri, the scalar field necessarily inherits the symmetry. To prove these results we investigate miscellaneous properties of massless and conformal scalar fields coupled to gravity, in particular Bondi mass and its loss.
We analyze stationary self-gravitating disks around spinning black holes that satisfy the recently found general-relativistic Keplerian rotation law. There is a numerical evidence that the angular velocity, circumferential radius and angular momenta yield a bound onto the asymptotic mass of the system. This bound is proven analytically in the special case of massless disks of dust in the Kerr spacetime.
The properties of a stationary massless string endowed with intrinsic spin are discussed. The spacetime is Minkowskian geometrically but the topology is nontrivial due to the horizon located on the surface $r=0$, similar with Rindler's case. For $r$ less than the Planck length $b$, $g_{ϕϕ}$ has the same sign as $g_{tt}$ and closed timelike curves are possible. We assume an elementary particles' spin originates in the frame dragging effect produced by the rotation of the source. The Sagnac time delay is calculated and proves to be constant.
In the present paper, within the framework of stationary axisymmetric spacetimes, binary systems composed of two unequal co- and counter-rotating extreme Kerr-Newman black holes separated by a massless strut are reported. The metric describing both configurations is introduced in a closed analytical form in terms of five arbitrary parameters: the masses $M_{i}$, electric charges $Q_{i}$, and a coordinate distance $R$. We obtain novel results from these configurations; in particular, those related to the merging process.
This work deals with the analysis of cylindrically symmetric and stationary space-times $\mathcal{C}_{t}$ with closed timelike curves. The equation of motion describing the evolution of a massive scalar field in a $\mathcal{C}_{t}$ space-time is obtained. A class of space-times with closed timelike curves describing cosmic strings and cylinders is studied in detail. In such space-times, both massive particles as well as photons can reach the non-causal region. Geodesics and closed timelike curves are calculated and investigated. We have observed that massive particles and photons describe, ess…
We discuss the absorption cross section for the minimally-coupled massless scalar field into a stationary and circularly symmetric black hole with nonzero angular velocity in four or higher dimensions. In particular, we show that it equals the horizon area in the zero-frequency limit provided that the solution of the scalar field equation with an incident monochromatic plane wave converges pointwise to a smooth time-independent solution outside the black hole and on the future horizon, with the error term being at most linear in the frequency. We also show that this equality holds for static b…
We study the late-time asymptotic state of a stationary Unruh-DeWitt detector interacting with a field in a thermal state. We work in an open system framework, where the field plays the role of an environment for the detector. The long-time interaction between the detector and the field is modelled with the aid of a one-parameter family of switching functions that turn on and off the interaction Hamiltonian between the two subsystems, such that the long-time interaction limit is reached as the family parameter goes to infinity. In such limit, we show that if the field is in a Kubo-Martin-Schwi…
The cross sections of black holes with tidal charge predicted in the context of the Randall--Sundrum brane-world scenario are computed considering the massless scalar field. Results obtained for black holes with different tidal-charge intensities are compared in order to study how this charge modifies the black hole cross sections. Such results are also compared with the ones for Schwarzschild and extreme Reissner--Nordström black holes. The increase of the tidal-charge intensity makes the black hole absorb more and can also be measured by the narrowing of interference fringes of the different…
We investigate the behavior of massless scalar, electromagnetic, and linearized gravitational perturbations near null infinity in d \geq 4 dimensional Minkowski spacetime (of both even and odd dimension) under the assumption that these fields admit a suitable expansion in 1/r. We also investigate the behavior of asymptotically flat, nonlinear gravitational perturbations near null infinity in all dimensions d\geq 4. We then consider the memory effect in fully nonlinear general relativity. We show that in even dimensions, the memory effect first arises at Coulombic order--i.e., order 1/r^{d-3}--…
The problem of merging in black holes the rotation and a massless scalar field is treated. It is argued in the comment that the Kerr-like and Demianski-like metrics in General Relativity with a free massless scalar field or in the free Brans-Dicke theory, claimed so far in the literature as an application of the Newman-Janis algorithm, prove to be invalid. Finding the missing stationary axisymmetric scalar-vacuum solution(s), containing the Kerr one, is still urgent.
