We present Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) 240 MHz observations of the nearby luminous FR I radio source 3C 270, in the group-central elliptical NGC 4261. Combining these data with reprocessed Very Large Array (VLA) 1.55 and 4.8 GHz observations, we produce spectral index maps that reveal a constant spectral index along the jets and a gradual steepening from the ends of the jets through the lobes towards the nucleus. A Jaffe & Perola (JP) model fitted to the integrated spectrum of the source gives an asymptotic low-frequency index of $α_{inj}=0.53_{-0.02}^{+0.01}$, while JP models fitted to the observed spectral index trend along the lobes allow us to estimate radiative ages of $\sim29$ Myr and $\sim37$ Myr for the west and east lobes respectively. Our age estimates are a factor of two lower than the 75-Myr upper limit derived from X-ray data (O'Sullivan et al. 2011). We find unlikely the scenario of an early supersonic phase in which the lobe expanded into the ISM at approximately Mach 6 (3500 km s$^{-1}$), and suggest that either the source underwent multiple AGN outbursts with possible large changes in jet power, or possibly that the source age that we find is due to a backflow that transports young electrons from the jet tips through the lobes toward the nucleus relatively quickly. We calculate that in the lobes the energy ratio of non-radiating to radiating particles is $\sim4-24$ indicating significant gas entrainment. If the lobes are in pressure balance with their surroundings, the total energy required to heat the entrained material is $10^{58}$ erg, $\sim$40% of the total enthalpy of the lobes.
Low frequency observations at 325 and 610 MHz have been carried out for two "radio-loud" Seyfert galaxies, NGC4235 and NGC4594 (Sombrero galaxy), using the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The 610 MHz total intensity and 325-610 MHz spectral index images of NGC4235 tentatively suggest the presence of a "relic" radio lobe, most likely from a previous episode of AGN activity. This makes NGC4235 only the second known Seyfert galaxy after Mrk6 to show signatures of episodic activity. Spitzer and Herschel infrared spectral energy distribution (SED) modelling using the clumpyDREAM code predic…
We report low frequency observations of Wolf-Rayet galaxies, NGC 4214 and NGC 4449 at 610, 325 and 150 MHz, using the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT). We detect diffuse extended emission from NGC 4214 at and NGC 4449. NGC 4449 is observed to be five times more radio luminous than NGC 4214, indicating vigorous star formation. We estimate synchrotron spectral index after separating the thermal free-free emission and obtain $α_{nt}=-0.63\pm0.04$ (S$\proptoν^{α_{nt}}$) for NGC 4214 and $-0.49\pm0.02$ for NGC 4449. About $22\%$ of the total radio emission from NGC 4214 and $\sim 9\%$ from NG…
We describe multi-frequency data designed to probe the emission mechanism that dominates in faint radio sources. Our analysis is based on observations of the Lockman Hole using the GMRT - the deepest 610-MHz imaging yet reported - together with 1.4-GHz imaging from the VLA, well matched in resolution and sensitivity to the GMRT data. The GMRT and VLA data are cross-matched to obtain the radio spectral indices for the faint radio emitters. Statistical analyses show no clear evolution for the median spectral index, alpha, as a function of flux density. alpha is found to be -0.6 to -0.7, based on…
We present results from 1.4 and 5 GHz observations at matched resolution with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) of 11 powerful 3C FR II quasars. We examine the 11 quasars along with a sample of 13 narrow-line FR II radio galaxies and find that radio-loud unification largely holds but environmental effects cannot be ignored. The radio core prominence, largest linear size, and axial ratio parameter values indicate that quasars are at relatively smaller angles compared to the radio galaxies and thus probe orientation. Lack of correlation between statistical orientation indicators such as …
We present high-resolution, high-sensitivity radio continuum observations of the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 2997 at 332, 616 and 1272 MHz using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The integrated spectrum of this galaxy has a spectral index of -0.92 ($S_ν\proptoν^α$) and we place an upper limit to the thermal fraction at 1272 MHz of ~ 10 per cent. Our multi-frequency study shows a relatively flat spectrum source ($α$ ~ -0.6) at the centre of the galaxy. This leads to radio detection of a circumnuclear ring in the high resolution map at 1272 MHz. We detect five hotspots in the ring, with a…
Ultra Steep Spectrum (USS) radio sources are one of the efficient tracers of High Redshift Radio Galaxies (HzRGs). To search for HzRGs candidates, we investigate properties of a large sample of faint USS sources derived from our deep 325 MHz GMRT observations combined with 1.4 GHz VLA data on the two subfields (i.e., VLA-VIMOS VLT Deep Survey (VVDS) and Subaru X-ray Deep Field (SXDF)) in the XMM-LSS field. The available redshift estimates show that majority of our USS sample sources are at higher redshifts with the median redshifts ~ 1.18 and ~ 1.57 in the VLA-VVDS and SXDF fields. In the VLA-…
Globular clusters contain a unique pulsar population, with many exotic systems that can form only in their dense stellar environments. The leap in sensitivity of the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) in India, especially at low radio frequencies ($<$ 1 GHz) has motivated a new search for radio pulsars in a group of eight Southern globular clusters. We discovered PSR J1835$-$3259B, a 1.83-ms pulsar in NGC 6652; this is in a near-circular wide orbit of 28.7 hr with a low-mass ($ \sim 0.2 \, M_{\rm \odot}$) companion, likely a Helium white dwarf. We derived a 10-year timing solutio…

In this paper we present a wide-area 610 MHz survey of the ELAIS\,N1 field with the GMRT, covering an area of 12.8 deg$^2$ at a resolution of 6 arcsec and with an rms noise of $\sim 40$ $μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$. This is equivalent to $\sim 20$ $μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$ rms noise at 1.4 GHz for a spectral index of $-0.75$. The primary goal of the survey was to study the polarised sky at sub-mJy flux densities at $<$ GHz frequencies. In addition, a range of other science goals, such as investigations in to the nature of the low-frequency $μ$Jy source populations and alignments of radio jets. A total of 6,400 s…
NGC 5905 is one of the few galaxies with no prior evidence for an AGN in which an X-ray flare, due to the tidal disruption of a star by the massive black hole in the center of the galaxy, was detected by the RASS in 1990-91. Here we present analysis of late-time follow-up observations of NGC 5905 using Chandra, Spitzer VLA 3 GHz and 8 GHz archival data and GMRT 1.28 GHz radio observations. The X-ray image shows no compact source that could be associated with an AGN. Instead, the emission is extended -- likely due to nuclear star formation and the total measured X-ray luminosity is comparable t…
The XXL survey LII : The evolution of radio AGN luminosity function determined via parametric methods from GMRT, ATCA, VLA and Cambridge interferometer observations
By analyzing the Chandra archival data of the nearby NGC 6338 galaxy group, we identify two X-ray bright clumps (N-clump and S-clump) within the central 100 kpc, and detect an arc-like X-ray brightness discontinuity at the south boundary of the N-clump, which is defined as a cold front with a gas flow Mach number of M<0.8. Furthermore, at the north-east boundary of the S-clump (dominated by galaxy NGC 6338) another X-ray edge is detected that corresponds to a weaker cold front. Therefore, the two clumps are approaching each other approximately from opposite directions, and the group is undergo…
We report Very Large Array B-configuration observations of the atomic hydrogen 21 cm line emission from the barred disk galaxy NGC 5597 at an angular resolution of 7.1" x 4.2". Using the resonance method, and assuming the ratio of the corotation radius to the semi-major axis of the stellar bar is unity ($\mathcal{R} \equiv R_{\rm CR}/a_{\rm bar} = 1$), we estimate the angular pattern speed of the stellar bar to be, $Ω_{\rm bar} \sim 15.3$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$. This constant value for $Ω_{\rm bar}$ crosses $Ω_{\rm gas} + κ(R)/4$ at a distance $\sim 6.73$ kpc which would correspond to the spat…
We present results from our Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) HI observations of the Arp 305 system. The system consists of two interacting spiral galaxies NGC 4016 and NGC 4017, a large amount of resultant tidal debris and a prominent tidal dwarf galaxy (TDG) candidate projected within the tidal bridge between the two principal galaxies. Our higher resolution GMRT HI mapping, compared to previous observations, allowed detailed study of smaller scale features. Our HI analysis supports the conclusion in Hancock et al. (2009) that the most recent encounter between the pair occurred $\sim$ 4…
We present the results of Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) 108, 233, 352, and 691 GHz continuum observations and Very Large Array (VLA) 4.81 and 8.36 GHz observations of the nearby luminous merger remnant NGC 1614. By analyzing the beam (1".0 * 1".0) and uv (> 45 kλ) matched ALMA and VLA maps, we find that the deconvolved source size of lower frequency emission (< 108 GHz) is more compact (420 pc * 380 pc) compared to the higher frequency emission (> 233 GHz) (560 pc * 390 pc), suggesting different physical origins for the continuum emission. Based on an SED model for a dust…
We have observed seven nearby large angular sized galaxies at 0.33 GHz using GMRT with angular resolution of $\sim10''$ and sub-mJy sensitivity. Using archival higher frequency data at 1.4 or $\sim$6 GHz, we have then determined their spatially resolved non-thermal spectrum. As a general trend, we find that the spectral indices are comparatively flat at the galaxy centres and gradually steepen with increasing galactocentric distances. Using archival far infrared (FIR) MIPS 70 $μ m$ data, we estimate the exponent of radio-FIR correlation. One of the galaxy (NGC 4826) was found to have an expone…
We present high-sensitivity 1.51 GHz e-MERLIN radio images of the nearby galaxy NGC 6217. We resolve the compact radio source at the centre of NGC 6217 for the first time, finding a twin-lobed structure with a total linear size of ~4 arcsec (~400pc). The radio source does not have a compact central core but there is an unresolved hot spot near the outer edge of the southern lobe. Combining our e-MERLIN data with new VLA A-Array data and archival multi-wavelength data, we explore possible scenarios which might explain this complex radio morphology. We conclude that this radio source is most lik…
In this paper we present new H{\sc i} 21cm spectral line images of the poor group of late type galaxies, Holmberg 124 made using archival data from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). Holmberg 124 is a group of four late type galaxies: NGC 2805, NGC 2814, NGC 2820 and Mrk 108. We detect spectral line emission from all the four galaxies and note several signatures of tidal interactions among the member galaxies. Our results for the triplet (namely NGC 2820, NGC 2814 and Mrk 108) confirm the earlier results of Kantharia et al. (2005) notably the detection of a possible tidal dwarf galaxy…
We present results from our Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) HI, Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT) Halpha, 1m Sampurnanand Telescope (ST) and 1.3m Devasthal Fast Optical Telescope (DFOT) deep optical observations of NGC 7805/6 (Arp 112) system to test KUG 2359+311's tidal dwarf galaxy (TDG) candidacy and explore the properties of the interacting system. Our GMRT HI map shows no HI detection associated with KUG 2359+311, nor any HI tail or bridge-like structure connecting KUG 2359+311 to the NGC 7805/6 system. Our HCT Halpha image on the other hand, shows strong detections in KUG 2359+311…
We present images of C110$α$ and H110$α$ radio recombination line (RRL) emission at 4.8 GHz and images of H166$α$, C166$α$ and X166$α$ RRL emission at 1.4 GHz, observed toward the starforming region NGC 2024. The 1.4 GHz image with angular resolution $\sim$ 70\arcsec\ is obtained using VLA data. The 4.8 GHz image with angular resolution $\sim$ 17\arcsec\ is obtained by combining VLA and GBT data. The similarity of the LSR velocity (10.3 \kms\) of the C110$α$ line to that of lines observed from molecular material located at the far side of the \HII\ region suggests that the photo dissociation r…
Star formation activities in the NGC 2024 FIR 4 region were studied by imaging centimeter continuum sources and water maser sources using several archival data sets from the Very Large Array. The continuum source VLA 9 is elongated in the northwest-southeast direction, consistent with the FIR 4 bipolar outflow axis, and has a flat spectrum in the 6.2-3.6 cm interval. The three water maser spots associated with FIR 4 are also distributed along the outflow axis. One of the spots is located close to VLA 9, and another one is close to an X-ray source. Examinations of the positions of compact objec…
We present the first high-resolution 230-470 MHz map of the Perseus cluster obtained with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. The high dynamic range and resolution achieved has allowed the identification of previously-unknown structures in this nearby galaxy cluster. New hints of sub-structures appear in the inner radio lobes of the brightest cluster galaxy NGC 1275. The spurs of radio emission extending into the outer X-ray cavities, inflated by past nuclear outbursts, are seen for the first time at these frequencies, consistent with spectral aging. Beyond NGC 1275, we also analyze complex r…
As the SKA is expected to be operational in the next decade, investigations of the radio sky in the range of 100 MHz to 10 GHz have become important for simulations of the SKA observations. In determining physical properties of galaxies from radio data, the radio SED is often assumed to be described by a simple power law, usually with a spectral index of 0.7 for all sources. Even though radio SEDs have been shown to exhibit deviations from this assumption, both in differing spectral indices and complex spectral shapes, it is often presumed that their individual differences cancel out in large …
The upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) has been used to image the head-tail radio galaxy NGC 4869 in the Coma cluster with an angular resolution of 6.26 arcsec at 250-500 MHz and 2.18 arcsec at the 1050-1450 MHz bands. The archival legacy GMRT data have also been used to image the source with angular resolutions from 4.9 to 21.8 arcsec at 610 MHz, 325 MHz, 240 MHz, and 150 MHz. We find that the ~200 kpc scale radio morphology consists of five distinct regions with the clear presence of a pinch at ~1.4 arcmin (= 38.8 kpc) and a ridge at ~3.4 arcmin (= 94.2 kpc) from the head. The s…
The NSF's Karl G.\ Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) was used at 3~cm to search for accretion signatures from intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs) in 19 globular star clusters (GCs) in NGC\,3115, an early-type galaxy at a distance of 9.4 Mpc. The 19 have stellar masses $M_{\star} \sim (1.1 - 2.7) \times 10^6~M_\odot$, with a mean $\overline{M_{\star}} \sim 1.8 \times 10^6~M_\odot$. None were detected. An IMBH accretion model was applied to the individual GCs and their radio stack. The radio-stacked GCs have an IMBH mass $\overline{M_{\rm IMBH}} < 1.7 \times 10^5~M_\odot$ and mass fraction $\overl…
We present Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) Ka band (33 GHz) and Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) Band 3 (94.5 GHz) continuum images covering the nucleus and two extranuclear star-forming regions within the nearby galaxy NGC 3627 (M 66), observed as part of the Star Formation in Radio Survey (SFRS). Both images achieve an angular resolution of $\lesssim$2\arcsec, allowing us to map the radio spectral indices and estimate thermal radio fractions at a linear resolution of $\lesssim$90 pc at the distance of NGC 3627. The thermal fraction at 33 GHz reaches unity at and around the peaks o…
The nearby face-on spiral galaxy NGC 2617 underwent an unambiguous 'inside-out' multi-wavelength outburst in Spring 2013, and a dramatic Seyfert type change probably between 2010 and 2012, with the emergence of broad optical emission lines. To search for the jet activity associated with this variable accretion activity, we carried out multi-resolution and multi-wavelength radio observations. Using the very long baseline interferometric (VLBI) observations with the European VLBI Network (EVN) at 1.7 and 5.0 GHz, we find that NGC 2617 shows a partially synchrotron self-absorbed compact radio cor…
We construct the average radio spectral energy distribution (SED) of highly star-forming galaxies (HSFGs) up to z~4. Infrared and radio luminosities are bound by a tight correlation that is defined by the so-called q parameter. This infrared-radio correlation provides the basis for the use of radio luminosity as a star-formation tracer. Recent stacking and survival analysis studies find q to be decreasing with increasing redshift. It was pointed out that a possible cause of the redshift trend could be the computation of rest-frame radio luminosity via a single power-law assumption of the star-…
We present new HI data of the dwarf galaxy KK 69, obtained with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) with a signal-to-noise ratio that almost double previous observations. We carried out a Gaussian spectral decomposition and stacking methods to identify the cold neutral medium (CNM) and the warm neutral medium (WNM) of the HI gas. We found that 30% of the total HI gas, which corresponds to a mass of approx. 10^7 Mo, is in the CNM phase. The distribution of the HI in KK 69 is not symmetric. Our GMRT HI intensity map of KK 69 overlaid onto a Hubble Space Telescope image reveals an offset o…
We present new deep ($σ\sim6~μ$Jy) radio images of the HH~124~IRS Radio Cluster at 4.8 and 7.5 GHz. We detect a total of 50 radio sources, most of them compact. Variability and spectral indices were analyzed in order to determine the nature of the sources and of their radio emission. A proper motion study was also performed for several of these radio sources using radio observation previously reported. Our analysis shows that 11 radio sources can be related with Galactic objects, most of them probably young stars. Interestingly, eight of these sources are in an area less than 1 square arcminut…
We present a review on galaxy black hole co-evolution through merger, star formation and AGN-jet feedback. We highlight results on transitional galaxies (e.g. NGC1482, NGC6764, NGC3801, Speca, RAD-18 etc.) which has data from Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) and other sub-mm, IR, optical, UV and X-ray telescopes. The `smoking gun' relic-evidences of past AGN-jet feedback which is believed to have quenched star formation in transitional galaxies are still missing. Relic radio lobes, as old as a few hundred Myr, can be best detected at low radio frequencies with the GMRT, LOFAR and in futu…
A strong effort has been devoted to understand the physical origin of radio emission from low-luminosity AGN (LLAGN), but a comprehensive picture is still missing. We used high-resolution ($\le$1 arcsec), multi-frequency (1.5, 5.5, 9 and 14 GHz) NSF's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) observations to characterise the state of the nuclear region of ten Seyfert nuclei, which are the faintest members of a complete, distance-limited sample of 28 sources. With the sensitivity and resolution guaranteed by the VLA-A configuration, we measured radio emission for six sources (NGC3185, NGC3941, NGC4…
We present deep and high-resolution (FWHM ~ 0.4 arcsec) near-infrared (NIR) imaging observations of the NGC 7538 IRS 1-3 region (in JHK bands), and IRS 9 region (in HK bands) using the 8.2m Subaru telescope. The NIR analysis is complemented with GMRT low-frequency observations at 325, 610, and 1280 MHz, molecular line observations of H13CO+ (J=1-0), and archival Chandra X-ray observations. Using the 'J-H/H-K' diagram, 144 Class II and 24 Class I young stellar object (YSO) candidates are identified in the IRS 1-3 region. Further analysis using 'K/H-K' diagram yields 145 and 96 red sources in th…
We present an analysis of physical and morphological properties of an interacting pair of dwarf galaxies UGC 4703 located at the vicinity of an isolated Milky-Way (MW) type spiral galaxy NGC 2718. Based on the comparison of physical and morphological properties with that of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC), we report that the UGC 4703 pair-NGC 2718 system is probably an LMC-SMC-MW analogue. Located at a sky projected distance of 81 kpc from NGC 2718, we find that UGC 4703 is clearly interacting with its nearby smaller mass companion UGC 4703B forming a bridge of stellar stre…
We report the discoveries of a nuclear ring of diameter 10$\arcsec$ ($\sim$1.5 kpc) and a potential low luminosity active galactic nucleus (LLAGN) in the radio continuum emission map of the edge-on barred spiral galaxy NGC~5792. These discoveries are based on the Continuum Halos in Nearby Galaxies - an Expanded Very Large Array (VLA) Survey, as well as subsequent VLA observations of sub-arcsecond resolution. Using a mixture of H$α$ and 24 $μ$m calibration, we disentangle the thermal and non-thermal radio emission of the nuclear region, and derive a star formation rate (SFR) of $\sim 0.4~M_{\su…
Turbulence plays an important role in the structure and dynamics of the galaxy and influences various processes therein including star formation. In this work, we investigate the large scale turbulence properties of the external spiral galaxy NGC 5236. We combine the VLA multi-configuration archival data with the new GMRT observation to estimate the column density and line of sight velocity fluctuation power spectra for this galaxy over almost two decades of length scales. The energy input scale to the ISM turbulence is found to be around $6$ kpc. Power spectra of the two-dimensional turbulenc…
The dynamics of ionized gas around the W33 Main ultracompact HII region is studied using observations of hydrogen radio recombination lines and a detailed multiwavelength characterization of the massive star-forming region W33 Main is performed. We used the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) to observe the H167$α$ recombination line at 1.4 GHz at an angular resolution of 10 arcsec, and Karl. G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) data acquired in the GLOSTAR survey to study the dynamics of ionized gas. We also observed the radio continuum at 1.4 GHz and 610 MHz with the GMRT and used GLOSTAR 4$-…
Low-frequency radio continuum studies of star-forming edge-on galaxies can help to further understand how cosmic-ray electrons (CRe) propagate through the interstellar medium into the halo and how this is affected by energy losses and magnetic fields. Observations with the Very Large Array (VLA) from Continuum Haloes in Nearby Galaxies - an EVLA Survey (CHANG-ES) are combined with those with the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) from the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS ) to identify the prevailing mode of cosmic-ray transport in the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 3556. We mapped the radio spectral inde…
We present new deep, high-resolution, 1.5 GHz observations of the prototypical nearby Perseus galaxy cluster from the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. We isolate for the first time the complete tail of radio emission of the bent-jet radio galaxy NGC 1272, which had been previously mistaken to be part of the radio mini-halo. The possibility that diffuse radio galaxy emission contributes to mini-halo emission may be a general phenomenon in relaxed cool-core clusters, and should be explored. The collimated jets of NGC 1272 initially bend to the west, and then transition eastward into faint, 60 kp…
We present GMRT HI observations and deep CFHT MegaCam optical images of the gas-rich interacting galaxy group NGC 871/NGC 876/NGC 877 (hereafter NGC 871/6/7). Our high-resolution data sets provide a census of the HI and stellar properties of the detected gas-rich group members. In addition to a handful of spiral, irregular and dwarf galaxies, this group harbours an intriguing HI feature, AGC 749170, that has a gas mass of ~10^9.3 M_sol, a dynamical-to-gas mass ratio of ~1 (assuming the cloud is rotating and in dynamical equilibrium) and no optical counterpart in previous imaging. Our observati…
In order to better determine the large-scale 3D-structure of magnetic fields in spiral galaxies we present a Faraday rotation analysis of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 5775. Deep radio-continuum observations in total power and linear polarization were performed at 8.46 GHz with the VLA and the 100-m Effelsberg telescope. They were analyzed together with archival 4.86 and 1.49 GHz VLA-data. We thus can derive rotation measures from a comparison of three frequencies and determine the intrinsic magnetic field structure. A very extended halo is detected in NGC 5775, with magnetic field lines formi…
We study the radio spectral properties of 2,094 star-forming galaxies (SFGs) by combining our early science data from the MeerKAT International GHz Tiered Extragalactic Exploration (MIGHTEE) survey with VLA, GMRT radio data, and rich ancillary data in the COSMOS field. These SFGs are selected at VLA 3GHz, and their flux densities from MeerKAT 1.3GHz and GMRT 325MHz imaging data are extracted using the "super-deblending" technique. The median radio spectral index is $α_{\rm 1.3GHz}^{\rm 3GHz}=-0.80\pm0.01$ without significant variation across the rest-frame frequencies ~1.3-10GHz, indicating ra…
We present new high spatial resolution Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) HI absorption and Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) continuum observations of the Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN)-driven molecular outflow candidate NGC 1266. Although other well-known systems with molecular outflows may be driven by star formation in a central molecular disk, the molecular mass outflow rate reported in Alatalo et al. (2011) in NGC 1266 of 13 M$_{\odot}$ year$^{-1}$ exceeds star formation rate estimates from a variety of tracers. This suggests that an additional energy source, such as an AGN, may play a s…
We present Very Large Array observations of the 7_0-6_1 A^+ methanol maser transition at 44 GHz towards NGC 6334F, G8.67-0.36, and M17. These arcsecond resolution observations complete a previous, larger VLA survey of this maser transition in high-mass star-forming regions reported by Kurtz et al. We confirm the presence of 44 GHz methanol maser emission in all three sources, detecting eight distinct maser components in NGC 6334F, twelve components in G8.67-0.36 and one in M17.
We present intensive quasi-simultaneous X-ray and radio monitoring of the narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4051, over a 16 month period in 2000-2001. Observations were made with the Rossi Timing X-ray Explorer (RXTE) and the Very Large Array (VLA) at 8.4 and 4.8 GHz. In the X-ray band NGC 4051 behaves much like a Galactic black hole binary (GBH) system in a `soft-state'. In such systems, there has so far been no firm evidence for an active, radio-emitting jet like those found in `hard state' GBHs. VLBI observations of NGC 4051 show three co-linear compact components. This structure resembles t…
We present deep 3 GHz VLA observations of the potentially recoiling black hole CID-42 in the COSMOS field. This galaxy shows two optical nuclei in the HST/ACS image and a large velocity offset of ~ 1300 km/s between the broad and narrow H beta emission line although the spectrum is not spacially resolved (Civano et al. 2010). The new 3 GHz VLA data has a bandwidth of 2 GHz and to correctly interpret the flux densities imaging was done with two different methods: multi-scale multi-frequency synthesis and spectral windows stacking. The final resolutions and sensitivities of these maps are 0.7" w…
The nearby dwarf galaxy NGC404 harbors a low-luminosity active galactic nucleus (AGN) powered by the lowest-mass (< 150,000 solar-masses) central massive black hole (MBH) with a dynamical mass constraint currently known, thus providing a rare low-redshift analog to the MBH "seeds" that formed in the early Universe. Here, we present new imaging of the nucleus of NGC404 at 12-18 GHz with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and observations of the CO(2-1) line with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). For the first time, we have successfully resolved the nuclear radio em…
