Optimal Transport with Coulomb cost. Approximation and duality

We revisit the duality theorem for multimarginal optimal transportation problems. In particular, we focus on the Coulomb cost. We use a discrete approximation to prove equality of the extremal values and some careful estimates of the approximating sequence to prove existence of maximizers for the dual problem (Kantorovich's potentials). Finally we observe that the same strategy can be applied to a more general class of costs and that a classical results on the topic cannot be applied here.

A penalization approach to linear programming duality with application to capacity constrained transport

A new approach to linear programming duality is proposed which relies on quadratic penalization, so that the relation between solutions to the penalized primal and dual problems becomes affine. Optimal transport with Coulomb cost and the semiclassical limit of Density Functional Theory

We present some progress in the direction of determining the semiclassical limit of the Hoenberg-Kohn universal functional in Density Functional Theory for Coulomb systems. In particular we give a proof of the fact that for Bosonic systems with an arbitrary number of particles the limit is the multimarginal optimal transport problem with Coulomb cost and that the same holds for Fermionic systems with 2 or 3 particles. Comparisons with previous results are reported . The approach is based on some techniques from the optimal transportation theory.

Duality theory and optimal transport for sand piles growing in a silos

We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions for a system of PDEs which describes the growth of a sandpile in a silos with flat bottom under the action of a vertical, measure source. The tools we use are a discrete approximation of the source and the duality theory for optimal transport (or Monge-Kantorovich) problems.

In this paper we extend the duality theory of the multi-marginal optimal transport problem for cost functions depending on a decreasing function of the distance (not necessarily bounded). On deterministic solutions for multi-marginal optimal transport with Coulomb cost

In this paper we study the three-marginal optimal mass transportation problem for the Coulomb cost on the plane $\R^2$. The key question is the optimality of the so-called Seidl map, first disproved by Colombo and Stra. We generalize the partial positive result obtained by Colombo and Stra and give a necessary and sufficient condition for the radial Coulomb cost to coincide with a much simpler cost that corresponds to the situation where all three particles are aligned. Moreover, we produce an infinite class of regular counterexamples to the optimality of this family of maps.

Dissociating limit in Density Functional Theory with Coulomb optimal transport cost

In the framework of Density Functional Theory with Strongly Correlated Electrons we consider the so called bond dissociating limit for the energy of an aggregate of atoms. Density functional theory and optimal transportation with Coulomb cost

We present here novel insight into exchange-correlation functionals in density functional theory, based on the viewpoint of optimal transport. We show that in the case of two electrons and in the semiclassical limit, the exact exchange-correlation functional reduces to a very interesting functional of novel form, which depends on an optimal transport map $T$ associated with a given density $ρ$.
