The paper proposes a two player game based strategy for resource allocation in service computing domain such as cloud, grid etc. The players are modeled as demand/workflows for the resource and represent multiple types of qualitative and quantitative factors. The proposed strategy will classify them in two classes. The proposed system would forecast outcome using a priori information available and measure/estimate existing parameters such as utilization and delay in an optimal load-balanced paradigm.

Elasticity in resource allocation is still a relevant problem in cloud computing. There are many academic and white papers which have investigated the problem and offered solutions.\textbf{Unfortunately, there are scant evidence of determining scaling number dynamically.} Elasticity is defined as the ability to adapt with the changing workloads by provisioning and de-provisioning Cloud resources. We propose ALVEC, a novel model of resource allocation in Cloud data centers, inspired by population dynamics and Mathematical Biology, which addresses dynamic allocation by auto-tuning model paramete…
In edge computing, edge servers are placed in close proximity to end-users. App vendors can deploy their services on edge servers to reduce network latency experienced by their app users. The edge user allocation (EUA) problem challenges service providers with the objective to maximize the number of allocated app users with hired computing resources on edge servers while ensuring their fixed quality of service (QoS), e.g., the amount of computing resources allocated to an app user. In this paper, we take a step forward to consider dynamic QoS levels for app users, which generalizes but further…
Building around the idea of a large scale server infrastructure with a potentially large number of tailored resources, which are capable of interacting to facilitate the deployment, adaptation, and support of services, cloud computing needs to frequently reschedule and manage various application tasks in order to accommodate the requests of a wide range and number of users. One of the challenges of cloud computing is to support and manage Quality-of-Service (QoS) by designing efficient techniques for the allocation of tasks between users and the cloud virtual resources, as well as assigning vi…
In modern heterogeneous MPSoCs, the management of shared memory resources is crucial in delivering end-to-end QoS. Previous frameworks have either focused on singular QoS targets or the allocation of partitionable resources among CPU applications at relatively slow timescales. However, heterogeneous MPSoCs typically require instant response from the memory system where most resources cannot be partitioned. Moreover, the health of different cores in a heterogeneous MPSoC is often measured by diverse performance objectives. In this work, we propose a Self-Aware Resource Allocation (SARA) framewo…
For a cloud service provider, delivering optimal system performance while fulfilling Quality of Service (QoS) obligations is critical for maintaining a viably profitable business. This goal is often hard to attain given the irregular nature of cloud computing jobs. These jobs expect high QoS on an on-demand fashion, that is on random arrival. To optimize the response to such client demands, cloud service providers organize the cloud computing environment as a multi-tier architecture. Each tier executes its designated tasks and passes the job to the next tier; in a fashion similar, but not iden…
Cloud computing is a model for enabling on-demand network access to a shared pool of computing resources, that can be dynamically allocated and released with minimal effort. However, this task can be complex in highly dynamic environments with various resources to allocate for an increasing number of different users requirements. In this work, we propose a Cloud architecture based on a multi-agent system exhibiting a self-adaptive behavior to address the dynamic resource allocation. This self-adaptive system follows a MAPE-K approach to reason and act, according to QoS, Cloud service informati…
Internet of Things (IoT) application deployment requires the allocation of resources such as virtual machines, storage, and network elements that must be deployed over distinct infrastructures such as cloud computing, Cloud of Things (CoT), datacenters and backbone networks. For massive IoT data acquisition, a gateway-based data aggregation approach is commonly used featuring sensor/ actuator seamless access and providing cache/ buffering and preprocessing functionality. In this perspective , gateways acting as producers need to allocate network resources to send IoT data to consumers. In this…
Web servers scaled across distributed systems necessitate complex runtime controls for providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees as well as minimizing the energy costs under dynamic workloads. This paper presents a QoS-aware runtime controller using horizontal scaling (node allocation) and vertical scaling (resource allocation within nodes) methods synergistically to provide adaptation to workloads while minimizing the power consumption under QoS constraint (i.e., response time). A horizontal scaling determines the number of active nodes based on workload demands and the required QoS accor…
Cloud applications are increasingly moving away from monolithic services to agile microservices-based deployments. However, efficient resource management for microservices poses a significant hurdle due to the sheer number of loosely coupled and interacting components. The interdependencies between various microservices make existing cloud resource autoscaling techniques ineffective. Meanwhile, machine learning (ML) based approaches that try to capture the complex relationships in microservices require extensive training data and cause intentional SLO violations. Moreover, these ML-heavy appro…
Performance unpredictability in cloud services leads to poor user experience, degraded availability, and has revenue ramifications. Detecting performance degradation a posteriori helps the system take corrective action, but does not avoid the QoS violations. Detecting QoS violations after the fact is even more detrimental when a service consists of hundreds of thousands of loosely-coupled microservices, since performance hiccups can quickly propagate across the dependency graph of microservices. In this work we focus on anticipating QoS violations in cloud settings to mitigate performance unpr…
Data centers are giant factories of Internet data and services. Worldwide data centers consume energy and emit emissions more than airline industry. Unfortunately, most of data centers are significantly underutilized. One of the major reasons is the big gaps between the real usage and the provisioned resources because users tend to over-estimate their demand and data center operators often rely on users' requests for resource allocation. In this paper, we first conduct an in-depth analysis of a Google cluster trace to unveil the root causes for low utilization and highlight the great potential…

Fog nodes in the vicinity of IoT devices are promising to provision low latency services by offloading tasks from IoT devices to them. Mobile IoT is composed by mobile IoT devices such as vehicles, wearable devices and smartphones. Owing to the time-varying channel conditions, traffic loads and computing loads, it is challenging to improve the quality of service (QoS) of mobile IoT devices. As task delay consists of both the transmission delay and computing delay, we investigate the resource allocation (i.e., including both radio resource and computation resource) in both the wireless channel …

Crowdsourced live video streaming (livecast) services such as Facebook Live, YouNow, Douyu and Twitch are gaining more momentum recently. Allocating the limited resources in a cost-effective manner while maximizing the Quality of Service (QoS) through real-time delivery and the provision of the appropriate representations for all viewers is a challenging problem. In our paper, we introduce a machine-learning based predictive resource allocation framework for geo-distributed cloud sites, considering the delay and quality constraints to guarantee the maximum QoS for viewers and the minimum cost …
