We study aggregation driven by a localized source of monomers. The densities become stationary and have algebraic tails far away from the source. We show that in a model with mass-independent reaction rates and diffusion coefficients, the density of monomers decays as $r^{-β(d)}$ in $d$ dimensions. The decay exponent has irrational values in physically relevant dimensions: $β(3)=(\sqrt{17}+1)/2$ and $β(2)=\sqrt{8}$. We also study Brownian coagulation with a localized source and establish the behavior of the total cluster density and the total number of of clusters in the system. The latter quantity exhibits a logarithmic growth with time.
We explore analytically and numerically agglomeration driven by advection and localized source. The system is inhomogeneous in one dimension, viz. along the direction of advection. We analyze a simplified model with mass-independent advection velocity, diffusion coefficient, and reaction rates. We also examine a model with mass-dependent coefficients describing aggregation with sedimentation. For the simplified model, we obtain an exact solution for the stationary spatially dependent agglomerate densities. In the model describing aggregation with sedimentation, we report a new conservation law…
We calculate the bulk-diffusion coefficient and the conductivity in a broad class of conserved-mass aggregation processes on a ring of discrete sites. These processes involve chipping and fragmentation of masses, which diffuse around and aggregate upon contact with their neighboring masses. We find that, even in the absence of microscopic time reversibility, the systems satisfy an Einstein relation, which connects the ratio of the conductivity and the bulk-diffusion coefficient to mass fluctuation. Interestingly, when aggregation dominates over chipping, the conductivity or, equivalently, the …
Vigorous thermal excitations in a double-tetrahedral chain of localized Ising spins and mobile electrons mimic a temperature-driven first-order phase transition
Quantum phases of matter have many relevant applications in quantum computation and quantum information processing. Current experimental feasibilities in diverse platforms allow us to couple two or more subsystems in different phases. In this letter, we investigate the situation where one couples two domains of a periodically-driven spin chain where one of them is ergodic while the other is fully localized. By combining tools of both graph and Floquet theory, we show that the localized domain remains stable for strong disorder, but as this disorder decreases the localized domain becomes ergodi…
We investigate the quantum dynamics of many-body systems subject to local, i.e. restricted to a limited space region, time-dependent perturbations. If the perturbation drives the system across a quantum transition, an off-equilibrium behavior is observed, even when the perturbation is very slow. We show that, close to the transition, time-dependent quantities obey scaling laws. In first-order quantum transitions, the scaling behavior is universal, and some scaling functions can be exactly computed. For continuous quantum transitions, the scaling laws are controlled by the standard critical exp…
We report the analogue simulation of an ergodiclocalized junction by using an array of 12 coupled superconducting qubits. To perform the simulation, we fabricated a superconducting quantum processor that is divided into two domains: a driven domain representing an ergodic system, while the second is localized under the effect of disorder. Due to the overlap between localized and delocalized states, for small disorder there is a proximity effect and localization is destroyed. To experimentally investigate this, we prepare a microwave excitation in the driven domain and explore how deep it can p…
We study the existence of localized one-spin excitation in the Heisenberg one-dimensional ferromagnetic spin chain in the presence of perpendicular and parallel external magnetic fields and current with spin-transfer torque and field-like torque. The Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Slonczewski (LLGS) equation is exactly solved for the one spin excitation in the absence of onsite anisotropy for the excitations of spin with fields perpendicular and parallel to the chain. We show the removal of damping in the spin excitations by appropriately introducing current and also the enhancement of angular freque…
We study how interacting localized degrees of freedom are affected by slow thermal fluctuations that change the effective local disorder. We compute the time-averaged (annealed) conductance in the insulating regime and find three distinct insulating phases, separated by two transitions. The first occurs between a non-resonating insulator and an intermittent metal. The average conductance is always dominated by rare temporal fluctuations. However, in the intermittent metal, they are so strong that the system becomes metallic for an exponentially small fraction of the time. A second transition o…
