The importance of off-shell contributions is discussed for $H\to VV^{(*)}$ with $V\in\{Z,W\}$ for large invariant masses $m_{VV}$ involving a standard model (SM)-like Higgs boson with $m_H=125$GeV at a linear collider (LC). Both dominant production processes $e^+e^-\to ZH\to ZVV^{(*)}$ and $e^+e^-\toν\barνH\toν\barνVV^{(*)}$ are taken into account, and the signal processes are compared with background yielding the same final state. The relative size of the off-shell contributions is strongly dependent on the centre-of-mass energy. These contributions can have an important impact on the determination of cross sections and branching ratios. However, the combination of on- and off-shell contributions can also be utilised to lift degeneracies allowing to test higher-dimensional operators, unitarity and light and heavy Higgs interferences in extended Higgs sectors. The latter is demonstrated in the context of a 2-Higgs-Doublet model. We also discuss the impact of these aspects for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) where they are relevant. The importance of a precise measurement of the Higgs mass for on-shell contributions in $H\to VV^{(*)}$ is emphasized. A particular focus is put on methods for extracting the Higgs width at a LC. Off-shell contributions are shown to have a negligible impact on the width determination at low $\sqrt{s}$ when applying the $Z$ recoil method to extract branching ratios in combination with an appropriate determination of a partial width. On the other hand, off-shell contributions can be exploited to constrain the Higgs width in a similar fashion as in recent analyses at the LHC. It is demonstrated that this approach, besides relying heavily on theoretical assumptions, is affected by the negative interference of Higgs and background contributions that may limit the sensitivity that is achievable with the highest foreseeable statistics at the LHC and a LC.
We discuss the complementarity between the LHC and a low energy photon collider. We mostly consider the scenario, where the first linear collider is a photon collider based on dual beam technology like CLIC.
We discuss the model independent parameterization for a strongly interacting electroweak sector. Phenomenological studies are made to probe such a sector for future colliders such as the LHC, $e^+e^-$ Linear collider and a muon collider.
One-loop on-shell and off-shell decays $H\rightarrow VV$ with $VV=γγ, Zγ, ZZ$ are presented in this paper. The effects of one-loop on-shell and off-shell Higgs decays in Higgs productions at $e^-e^-$ collisions are also then examined. We find that the impacts of one-loop Higgs decays are significant and they are must be taken into account at $e^-e^-$ collision.
Hadron colliders are providing a unique opportunity for testing Lorentz invariance and CPT symmetry at high energy and in a laboratory. A first measurement in the top-quark sector was performed at the Tevatron. We present here prospective studies for testing Lorentz invariance in top-quark pair production at the LHC and future colliders. The b-quark sector was investigated recently at LHCb. Eventually, new bounds on photon parameters can be extracted from the observation of TeV photons at the LHC. We will conclude by highlighting other opportunities provided by hadron colliders.
This paper investigates a signature of Lorentz invariance violation with the $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC and future hadron colliders. Possible deviations from the Lorentz symmetry remain poorly constrained in the top quark sector. With a dedicated analysis of $t\bar{t}$ events produced at the LHC, bounds in the top sector can be improved by up to three orders of magnitude relative to Tevatron, the only measurement existing so far. The sensitivity will be even further enhanced at the HL-LHC and future colliders.
We describe radiative corrections to bremsstrahlung and their application to high energy collider physics, focusing on the applications to luminosity measurement, fermion pair production and radiative return. We review the status of one loop radiative corrections in BHLUMI and the KKMC, including cross checks with newer results developed independently for radiative return. We outline a YFS-exponentiated approach to the Drell-Yan process for LHC physics, including a discussion of the relevant radiative corrections.
We discuss the connection between the understanding of TeV scale physics to be found at the LHC and a high energy e+e- linear collider, using Higgs physics, low energy supersymmetry, and the top quark sector as examples.
In the Randall-Sundrum model there can be a rich new phenomenology associated with Higgs-radion mixing. A photon-photon collider would provide a crucial complement to the LHC and a future ILC collider for fully determining the parameters of the model and definitively testing it.
We discuss the collider phenomenology of the model of Minimal Universal Extra Dimensions (MUED) at the Large hadron Collider (LHC). We derive analytical results for all relevant strong pair-production processes of two level 1 Kaluza-Klein partners and use them to validate and correct the existing MUED implementation in the fortran version of the PYTHIA event generator. We also develop a new implementation of the model in the C++ version of PYTHIA. We use our implementations in conjunction with the CHECKMATE package to derive the LHC bounds on MUED from a large number of published experimental …
The LHC / LC Study Group investigates how analyses at the LHC could profit from results obtained at a future Linear Collider and vice versa, leading to mutual benefits for the physics program at both machines. Some examples of results obtained within this working group so far concerning searches for new physics are briefly summarised.
This article presents prospects for Lorentz-violation searches with $t\bar{t}$ at the LHC and future colliders. After a short presentation of the Standard-Model Extension as a Lorentz-symmetry-breaking effective field theory, we will focus on $t\bar{t}$ production. We study the impact of Lorentz violation as a function of center-of-mass energy and evaluate the sensitivity of collider experiments to this signal.
We investigate the potential of single Higgs boson production at the LHC and at egamma mode of future linear electron-positron collider to probe non-standard HZgamma and Hgammagamma couplings. We consider the semi-elastic production process pp-> p gamma p-> pHqX at the LHC where q represents the quarks and X represents the remnants of one of the initial protons. We also study the single Higgs production through gamma e-> He in the egamma collision at the future linear collider. We perform a model-independent analysis and obtain the sensitivity bounds on the non-standard Higgs couplings for bot…
The discovery potential of both singlet and doublet vector-like leptons (VLLs) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as well as at the not-so-far future muon and electron machines is explored. The focus is on a single production channel for LHC direct searches while double production signatures are proposed for the leptonic colliders. A Deep Learning algorithm to determine the discovery (or exclusion) statistical significance at the LHC is employed. While doublet VLLs can be probed up to masses of 1 TeV, their singlet counterparts have very low cross sections and can hardly be tested beyond a few…
We discuss the importance of being able to detect Higgs-to-Higgs-pair decays in the context of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Model (NMSSM) and demonstrate the excellent capabilities of a photon collider for this purpose.
The single production of top quark due to flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) interaction and its decay to bW are studied at CLIC+LHC based gamma-p colliders. We consider both t-c-gamma and t-u-gamma anomalous couplings. The anomalous charm (up) quark anomalous coupling parameter kappa_gamma^c (kappa_gamma^u) can be probed down to 9.5x10^-3 (8.0x10^-3) at a gamma-p collider with sqrt{s_ep}=6.48 TeV and L_int=100 fb^-1.
Flavour changing neutral currents are absent at tree level in the Standard Model (SM) and are highly suppressed at higher orders due the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism. Hence, any evidence of such currents related to the top quark will definitely signal new physics beyond the SM. In this work we will discuss how an electron-positron collider can contribute to the field after the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has collected at least 100 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity operating at sqrt{s} = 14 TeV.
We study the signatures of the triplet-quadruplet dark matter model at the LHC and future colliders, including the 100 TeV Super Proton-Proton Collider and the 240 GeV Circular Electron Positron Collider. The dark sector in this model contains one fermionic electroweak triplet and two fermionic quadruplets, which have two kinds of Yukawa couplings to the Higgs doublet. Electroweak production signals of the dark sector fermions in the $\text{monojet}+/\!\!\!\!E_\mathrm{T}$, disappearing track, and $\text{multilepton}+/\!\!\!\!E_\mathrm{T}$ channels at the LHC and the Super Proton-Proton Collide…
We study the gluon fusion into pairs of off-shell Z bosons and their subsequent decay into charged lepton pairs at hadron colliders. We do not restrict the intermediate state Z bosons to the narrow width approximation but allow for arbitrary invariant masses. We compare the strength of this process with the known leading order results for q q_bar -> Z Z -> 4 l and for g g -> H -> Z Z -> 4 l .
The cross section for exclusive $Υ$ ultraperipheral photoproduction at present and future colliders is determined using the low $x$ gluon PDF extracted from an analysis of exclusive $J/ψ$ measurements performed at HERA and the LHC. Predictions are given at next-to-leading order in collinear factorisation over a wide $γp$ centre-of-mass energy range, calculated assuming the non-relativistic approximation for the $Υ$ wave function, and with skewing corrections incorporated.
We propose an experiment at the LHC with leading neutron production. The latter can be used to extract from it the total $π^+ p$ cross-sections. With two leading neutrons we can get access to the total $π^+π^+$ cross-sections. In this note we give some estimates and discuss related problems and prospects.
We present cross-section expectations for various processes and collider options, for benchmark scenarios of the Inert Doublet Model, a Two Higgs Doublet Model with a dark matter candidate. The proposed scenarios are consistent with current dark matter constraints, including the most recent bounds from the XENON1T experiment and relic density, as well as with known collider and low-energy limits. These benchmarks, chosen in earlier work for studies at $e^+e^-$ colliders, exhibit a variety of kinematic features that should be explored at current and future runs of the LHC. We provide cross sect…

We study the potential of future lepton colliders, running at the Z-pole and above, and the High-Luminosity LHC to search for the relaxion and other light scalars $ϕ$. We investigate the interplay of direct searches and precision observables for both CP-even and -odd couplings. In particular, precision measurements of exotic Z-decays, Higgs couplings, the exotic Higgs decay into a relaxion pair and associated $Zϕ$ and $γϕ$ production are promising channels to yield strong bounds.
This talk discusses extrapolations to the LHC of several, apparently universal trends, seen in the data on relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions up to RHIC energies. In the soft physics sector, such extrapolations to the LHC are typically at odds with LHC predictions of the dynamical models, advocated to underlie multi-particle production up to RHIC energies. I argue that due to this, LHC is likely to be a discovery machine not only in the hard, but also in the soft physics sector.
We compute the mixed QCD$\otimes$QED corrections to the production of on-shell $Z$ bosons at the LHC at a fully-exclusive level. We also include the factorised NLO QCD correction to $Z$ boson production and NLO QED correction to $Z$ boson decay into two leptons. We make use of an abelianised version of the nested soft-collinear subtraction formalism to perform this computation. We study the phenomenological impact of the mixed QCD$\otimes$QED corrections for a number of observables relevant for LHC phenomenology.
We investigate the photoproduction of $ρ$ mesons in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies in the dipole approach and within two phenomenological models based on the the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. We estimate the integrated cross section and rapidity distribution for meson production and compare our predictions with the data from the STAR collaboration. In particular, we demonstrate that the total cross section at RHIC is strongly dependent on the energy behavior of the dipole-target cross section at low energies, which is not well determined in the dipole a…
We discuss the search for a CP-odd scalar decaying into gauge bosons in the framework of a CP-conserving two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) and of a 2HDM extended with a vector-like quark (VLQ) at the Large Hadron Collider and at a future 100 TeV collider. The rate of decay of a pseudoscalar to $Z$-bosons could be important to ascertain the CP-nature of the scalars in the model. In the 2HDM $A \to ZZ$ will be extremely hard to detect even at a future 100 TeV $pp$ collider while in the 2HDM+VLQ this decay can be probed even during the present LHC run. We further discuss all decays of the pseudoscal…
We discuss several manifestations of charged lepton flavour violation at high energies. Focusing on a supersymmetric type I seesaw, considering constrained and semi-constrained supersymmetry breaking scenarios, we analyse different observables, both at the LHC and at a future Linear Collider. We further discuss how the synergy between low- and high-energy observables can shed some light on the underlying mechanism of lepton flavour violation.
We introduce a numerical package FORward Experiment SEnsitivity Estimator, or FORESEE, that can be used to simulate the expected sensitivity reach of experiments placed in the far-forward direction from the proton-proton interaction point. The simulations can be performed for $14$ TeV collision energy characteristic for the LHC, as well as for larger energies: $27$ and $100$ TeV. In the package, a comprehensive list of validated forward spectra of various SM species is also provided. The capabilities of FORESEE are illustrated for the popular dark photon and dark Higgs boson models, as well as…
Stringent experimental constraints have raised the lower limit on the masses of squarks to TeV levels, while compatibility with the mass of the Higgs boson provides an upper limit. This two-sided bound has lead to the emergence of Mini-Split theories where gauginos are not far removed from the electroweak scale while scalars are somewhat heavier. This small hierarchy modifies the spectrum of standard anomaly and gauge mediation, leading to Mini-Split deflected anomaly and gauge mediation models. In this paper, we study LHC constraints on these models and their prospects at LHC 14 and a 100 TeV…
We study the collider phenomenology of the electroweak phase transition and electroweak baryogenesis in the framework of the effective field theory. Our study shows that the effective theory using the dimension-6 operators can enforce strong first order phase transition and provide sizable CP violation to realize a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Such dimension-6 operators can induce interesting Higgs phenomenology that can be verified at colliders such as the LHC and the planning CEPC. We then demonstrate that this effective theory can originate from vector-like quarks and the triplet Hi…
With an eye toward the precision physics of the LHC, FCC-ee and possible high energy muon colliders, we present the extension of the CEEX (coherent exclusive exponentiation) realization of the YFS approach to resummation in our KK MC to include the processes f\bar{f}\rightarrow f'\bar{f'}, f=μ,τ, q,ν_\ell, f'=e, μ,τ, q, ν_\ell, q=u,d,s,c,b,t, \ell =e,μ,τwith f \ne f'. After giving a brief summary of the CEEX theory with reference to the older EEX (exclusive exponentiation) theory, we illustrate theoretical results relevant to the LHC, FCC-ee, and possible muon collider physics programs.
Large fermionic multiplets appear in different extensions of the Standard Model (SM), which are essential to predict small neutrino masses, relic abundance of the dark matter (DM) and the measured value of muon anomalous magnetic moment (muon (g-2)). Models containing quintuplet of fermions ($Σ$), along with other scalar multiplets, can address recent anomalies in the flavor sector while satisfying the constraints from the electroweak physics. In standard scenarios, the exotic fermions couple with the SM particles directly and there exists a strong limit on their masses from collider experimen…
We present the upgrade of the coherent exclusive (CEEX) exponentiation realization of the Yennie-Frautschi-Suura (YFS) theory used in our Monte Carlo ({\cal KK} MC) to the processes f\bar{f}\rightarrow f'\bar{f'}, f=μ,τ,q,ν_\ell, f'=e,μ,τ,q,ν_\ell, q=u,d,s,c,b,t, \ell=e,μ,τwith f\ne f', with an eye toward the precision physics of the LHC and possible high energy muon colliders. We give a brief summary of the CEEX theory in comparison to the older (EEX) exclusive exponentiation theory and illustrate theoretical results relevant to the LHC and possible muon collider physics programs.
In the light of the 125 GeV Higgs ($h$) discovery at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), one of the primary goals of the LHC and possible future colliders is to understand its interactions more precisely. Here we have studied the $h$-$b$-$\bar b$-$γ$ effective interaction terms arising out of gauge invariant dimension six operators in a model independent setting, as a potential source of new physics. Their role in some detectable final states have been compared with those coming from anomalous $h$-$b$-$\bar b$ interactions. We have considered the bounds coming from the existing collider and other…
The study of the Higgs boson properties offers compelling perspectives for testing the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model and has deep implications for the LHC program and future colliders. Accurate determinations of the Higgs boson properties can provide us with a distinctively precise picture of the Higgs sector, set tight bounds, and predict ranges for the values of new physics model parameters. In this paper, we discuss the constraints on supersymmetry that can be derived by a determination of the Higgs boson mass and couplings. We quantify these constraints by using scans of the…
The Higgs boson $H$ has the largest coupling to the top quark $t$ among the standard model (SM) fermions. This is one of the ideal places to investigate new physics beyond SM. In this work, we study the potential of determining Higgs boson $CP$ properties at the LHC and future 33 TeV and 100 TeV $pp$ colliders by analysing various operators formed from final states variables in $t\bar{t}H$ production. The discrimination power from SM coupling is obtained with Higgs boson reconstructed from $ H\to γγ$ and $ H\to b \bar{b}$. We find that $t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ process can provide more than 3$σ$ disc…
In this report we study how a light-scalar leptoquark could affect the Higgs boson production cross-section at the LHC collider. We construct the most general renormalizable and gauge invariant effective Lagrangian involving the standard model particles and a scalar, isoscalar leptoquark, η. The total cross-section for pp -> H+X is then calculated for different values of the unknown parameters λ_eta, m_eta and m_H.(Here λ_eta is the coupling associated with the Higgs-leptoquark interaction.) We find that if λ_eta is moderately large and m_eta is around a few hundred GeV, then the cross-section…
The production of the \mssm\ Higgs bosons $H^0,h^0,A^0$ and $H^\pm$, in the intermediate mass range of the $A^0$, at two different values of $\tanβ$, is studied at the possible CERN LEP$\otimes$LHC $ep$ collider, through $γp$ interactions, by photons generated via Compton back--scattering of laser light. Signatures in which $H^0,h^0,A^0\ar b\bar b$ and $H^\pm\ar τν_τ$ are considered. Flavour identification on $b$--jets is assumed. Backgrounds to Higgs signals are computed. Explicit formulae for the helicity amplitudes of the Higgs processes are given.
A precise measurement of the Higgs $h \to Z γ$ decay is very challenging at the LHC, due to the very low %SM $h \to Z γ\, (Z \to \ell \ell)$ branching fraction and the shortage of kinematic handles to suppress the large SM $Z γ$ background. We show how such a measurement would be significantly improved by considering Higgs production in association with a hard jet. We compare the prospective HL-LHC sensitivity in this channel with other Higgs production modes where $h$ is fairly boosted, e.g.~weak boson fusion, and also to the potential $h \to Z γ$ measurement achievable with a future $e^{+}e^…
After a brief review of the Big Issues in particle physics, we discuss the contributions to resolving that could be made by various planned and proposed future colliders. These include future runs of LEP and the Fermilab Tevatron collider, B factories, RHIC, the LHC, a linear electron-positron collider, an electron-proton collider in the LEP/LHC tunnel, a muon collider and a future larger hadron collider (FLHC). The Higgs boson and supersymmetry are used as benchmarks for assessing their capabilities. The LHC has great capacities for precision measurements as well as exploration, but also shor…
We propose a search strategy using the LHC as a photon collider to open sensitivity to scalar lepton (slepton $\tilde{\ell}$) production with masses around 15 to 60 GeV above that of neutralino dark matter $\tildeχ^0_1$. This region is favored by relic abundance and muon $(g-2)_μ$ arguments. However, conventional searches are hindered by the irreducible diboson background. We overcome this obstruction by measuring initial state kinematics and the missing momentum four-vector in proton-tagged ultraperipheral collisions using forward detectors. We demonstrate sensitivity beyond LEP for slepton m…
At the LHC and at an ILC, serious studies of new physics benefit from a proper simulation of signals and backgrounds. Using supersymmetric sbottom pair production as an example, we show how multi-particle final states are necessary to properly describe off-shell effects induced by QCD, photon radiation, or by intermediate on-shell states. To ensure the correctness of our findings we compare in detail the implementation of the supersymmetric Lagrangian in MadGraph, Sherpa and Whizard. As a future reference we give the numerical results for several hundred cross sections for the production of su…
Here we review potential of the Photon Collider for study of Higgs physics after discovery of the SM-like Higgs boson at the LHC. In general, the Photon Collider will fill in the LHC and ILC results, giving in some cases unique information which cannot be obtained at other machines.
A warped extra dimension model proposed by Randall and Sundrum(RS) is one of the attractive candidates to solve the gauge hierarchy problem in the Standard Model. In a simplest version of the RS model, there are only two extra particles beyond the Standard Model - a spin-2 graviton (and its Kaluza-Klein excitations) and a radion which is a spin-0 and electrically neutral particle. In this paper, we discuss a possibility of discovering the radion at a photon collider, which has been considered as an option of $e^+ e^-$ liner collider (ILC), focusing on characteristic features of radion interact…
The prospects for the discovery and exploration of low-energy Supersymmetry at future colliders, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the future international linear electron positron collider (ILC) are summarized. The focus is on the experimental techniques that will be used to discover superpartners and to measure their properties. Special attention is given to the question how the results from both machines could influence each other, in particular when they have overlapping running time.
Calculations of inclusive cross sections for the production of bottom quarks in proton-proton collisions are presented as a function of energy, transverse momentum, and Feynman $x_F$ for values of $\sqrt{s}$ from $100~$GeV to $40~$TeV. In addition, we provide simple parametrizations of our theoretical results that should facilitate estimates of rates, acceptances, and efficiencies of proposed new detectors.
If the masses of at least two generations of right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) are near-degenerate, the scale of leptogenesis can be as low as $\sim$ 100 GeV. In this work, we study probing such resonant leptogenesis in the $B-L$ model at the LHC and future multi-TeV muon colliders via the process $Z'\to NN\to\ell^\pm\ell^\pm+{\rm jets}$, with $Z'$ the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and $N$ the RHN. The same-sign dilepton feature of the signal makes it almost background-free, while the event number difference between positive and negative leptons is a hint for $CP$ violation, which is a key ingredient o…
A substantial off-shell Higgs boson signal in the gluon fusion and vector boson fusion H --> ZZ and H --> WW channels at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) facilitates a novel, complementary approach to constraining the total Higgs width Gamma_H. With LHC Run 1 data, experimental analyses by CMS and ATLAS find Gamma_H < 5.4 Gamma_H,SM and Gamma_H < [4.5,7.5] Gamma_H,SM at 95% confidence level, respectively, where Gamma_H,SM is the expected value in the Standard Model at the measured Higgs boson mass. I review the theoretical basis of the new approach and discuss its significance in comparison to …
The interesting but difficult phenomenology of supersymmetric models at the LHC and ILC demands a corresponding complexity and maturity from simulation tools. This includes multi-particle final states, reducible and irreducible backgrounds, spin correlations, real emission of photons and gluons, virtual corrections etc. Most of these topics are included in the multi-particle Monte Carlo (MC) Event generators Madgraph, WHIZARD and Sherpa. A comparison of these codes is shown, with a special focus on the new release of WHIZARD. I show examples for the necessity of considering full matrix element…
We report on state-of-the-art theoretical predictions for $pp\to t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ including full off-shell effects in the di-lepton decay channel at NLO QCD accuracy. We briefly discuss the impact of NLO QCD corrections on differential distributions and also asses theoretical uncertainties from scale and PDF dependence. Furthermore, we propose a simple kinematic reconstruction in order to distinguish $b$ jets originating from top-quark decays from arising from gluon splittings.
The determination of the electromagnetic dipole moments of the top quark is one of the most important goals of the top quark physics program in the collider experiments. For this reason, the top quark pair production to investigate the sensitivity on the electric and magnetic dipole moments of the top quark via the process $pp\rightarrow p γp \rightarrow p t \bar{t} X$ at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) and High-Energy Large Hadron Collider (HE-LHC) is discussed. We apply pure leptonic and semileptonic decays for top quark pair production in …
Central exclusive Higgs boson production, pp -> p + H + p, at the LHC and s-channel resonant Higgs production in the photon-collider option of the ILC can provide a very important contribution to the comprehensive study of the Higgs sector. Especially attractive is the b bbar Higgs decay mode, which for certain MSSM scenarios may become the discovery channel in exclusive Higgs production at the LHC and the Photon Collider (PC). Strongly suppressed and controllable backgrounds is an obvious requirement for the success of these exclusive measurements. One of the main sources of background comes …
We discuss off-shell contributions in Higgs decays to heavy gauge bosons $H\rightarrow VV^{(*)}$ with $V\in\lbrace Z,W\rbrace$ for a standard model (SM) Higgs boson for both dominant production processes $e^+e^-\rightarrow ZH\rightarrow ZVV^{(*)}$ and $e^+e^-\rightarrow ν\barνH\rightarrow ν\barνVV^{(*)}$ at a (linear) $e^+e^-$ collider. Dependent on the centre-of-mass energy off-shell effects are sizable and important for the understanding of the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism. Moreover we shortly investigate the effects of the signal-background interference in $H\rightarrow γγ$ decay…
This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2014 of the Standard Model Working Group within the workshop "What Next" of INFN. We present a framework, general questions, and some indications of possible answers on the main issue for Standard Model physics in the LHC era and in view of possible future accelerators.
Two important properties of a Higgs boson are its mass and width. They may distinguish the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson from Higgs bosons of extended models. We show results from a direct mass and width reconstruction for a Higgs boson mass range from 120 to 340 GeV. The mass and width have been reconstructed from the H --> ZZstar --> mu+mu-mu+mu- reaction in an LHC simulation of the CMS detector. The determined mass accuracy has been compared with that obtained from studies for a linear collider (LC). The mass precision from the latter studies is derived by scaling previous LC simulation r…
We study the LHC signatures of new gauge bosons in the minimal deconstruction Higgsless model (MHLM). We analyze the $W'$ signals of $pp\to W' \to WZ$ and $pp\to W'jj \to WZjj$ processes at the LHC, including the complete signal and background calculation in the gauge invariant model and have demonstrated the LHC potential to cover the whole parameter space of the MHLM model.
A short summary of results for top-quark pair production in association with a jet with NLO QCD off-shell effects at the LHC is given. The calculation is based on the matrix element for the $pp \to e^+ ν_e μ^-\barν_μb\bar{b} j$ process. All quantum effects are properly accounted for, which amounts to including all Feynman diagrams that result in this final state with interference effects as well as non-zero top-quark width effects. Results for total cross sections and a few differential distributions at the LHC Run1 energy of $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV are presented. In addition, the size of top-quark o…
