Recently there has been much interest in the tauonic semileptonic meson decays B -> D + tau + nu_tau and B -> D* + tau + nu_tau where one has found larger rates than what is predicted by the Standard Model. We analyze the corresponding semileptonic baryon decays Lambda_b(0) -> Lambda_c(+) + tau(-) + antinu_tau with particular emphasis on the lepton helicity flip and scalar contributions which vanish for zero lepton masses. We calculate the total rate, differential decay distributions, the longitudinal and transverse polarization of the daughter baryon Lambda_c(+) and the tau-lepton, and the lepton-side forward-backward asymmetries. The nonvanishing polarization of the daughter baryon Lambda_c(+) leads to hadron-side asymmetries in e.g. the decay Lambda_c(+) -> Lambda(0) + pi(+) and azimuthal correlations between the two final state decay planes which we specify. We provide numerical results on these observables using results of the covariant confined quark model. We find large lepton mass effects in the q2-spectra and in the polarization observables.
We present a detailed analysis of the heavy-to-light semileptonic decays of the Lambda_b and Lambda_c baryons Lambda_b -> p l- bar(nu)_l and Lambda_c -> n l+ nu_l in the covariant confined quark model. We calculate the invariant and helicity amplitudes of the two processes which are then used to analyze their angular decay distributions, their rates and asymmetry parameters.
The independent helicity amplitudes in the (Lambda_b -> Λl^+ l^-) decay in the standard model and its minimal extension, i.e., with the new vector type interactions, are calculated. We calculate various asymmetry parameters characterizing the angular dependence of the differential decay width for the cascade decay (Lambda_b -> Lambda(-> a+b) V^* (-> l^+ l^-)) with polarized and unpolarized heavy baryons. The sensitivity of the asymmetry parameters to the new Wilson coefficients are analyzed.
We study the exclusive flavor chancing neutral current process Lambda(b)-->Lambda neutrino antineutrino in the leptophobic Z-prime model, where charged leptons do not couple to the extra Z-prime boson. The branching ratio, as well as, the longitudinal, transversal and normal polarizations are calculated. It has been shown that all these physical observables are very sensitive to the existence of new physics beyond the standard model and their experimental measurements can give valuable information about it.
The semileptonic decay $Λ_c \to Λ\ell ν$ is considered in the framework of heavy quark effective theory beyond the leading order in the $1/m_c$ expansion. According to our estimate the polarization variable will receive only very small corrections such that $α_{Λ_c} \le -0.95$.
Exclusive semileptonic Lambda_b decays to excited charmed Lambda_c baryons are investigated at order Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q in the heavy quark effective theory. The differential decay rates are analyzed for the J^π=1/2^- Lambda_c(2593) and the J^π=3/2^- Λ_c(2625). They receive 1/m_{c,b} corrections at zero recoil that are determined by mass splittings and the leading order Isgur-Wise function. With some assumptions, we find that the branching fraction for Lambda_b decays to these states is 2.5-3.3%. The decay rate to the helicity \pm 3/2 states, which vanishes for m_Q \to \infty, remains small at or…
We present the study of the semileptonic decay Λ_c to Λ\ell^+νby using the light-cone sum rule approach. Distribution amplitudes (DAs) for the Λbaryon are discussed to the leading order conformal spin, and QCD sum rule estimate for the corresponding parameters is presented. The form factors describing the decay are calculated and used to predict the decay width and the decay asymmetry parameter α. With the inclusion of twist-3 contributions the calculated decay width Γ=(7.2+/-2.0)X10^{-14} GeV as well as asymmetry α=-(0.88+/-0.03) is found in good agreement with the experimental data, while th…
In this talk we present theoretical evidence that the exclusive/inclusive ratio of semileptonic Lambda_b-decays exceeds that of semileptonic B-decays, where the experimental exclusive/inclusive ratio amounts to about 66%. We start from the observation that the spectator quark model provides a lower bound on the leading order Isgur-Wise function of the Lambda_b -> Lambda_c transition in terms of the corresponding B -> D,D^* mesonic Isgur-Wise function. Using experimental data for the B -> D,D^* mesonic Isgur-Wise functions this bound is established. Applying a QCD sum rule estimate of the Lambd…
The exclusive semileptonic decay Lambda_b -> Lambda_c + l nu_l is investigated including both radiative and first-order power corrections in the inverse heavy-quark mass, while the Isgur-Wise function is calculated within a light-front constituent quark model. It turns out that the dependence on the model parameters can be effectively constrained using recent lattice QCD results at low values of the recoil. Our final predictions for the exclusive semileptonic branching ratio, the longitudinal and transverse asymmetries, and the longitudinal to transverse decay ratio are: Br(Lambda_b -> Lambda_…
We put constraints on several products of R-parity violating lambda lambda' and lambda' lambda' type couplings from leptonic and semileptonic tau, B_d and B_s decays. Most of them are one to two orders of magnitude better than the existing bounds, and almost free from theoretical uncertainties. A significant improvement of these bounds can be made in high luminosity tau-charm or B factories.
We discuss the Lambda_b-polarization of the bottom baryon Lambda_b in its production and in its decay. Standard Model predictions for b-quark polarization on the Z-peak are reviewed, including beam-quark orientation effects and O(as) radiative corrections to the polarization. The b-quark polarization is expected to be handed over to the Lambda_b into which it fragments with a high degree of efficiency. We present several spin-momentum correlation measures of the spin of the Λ_b with the momenta of its decay products in its inclusive semileptonic decay. We estimate the strengths of the spin-mom…
The exclusive semileptonic heavy baryon decay Λ_b\to p l\barνis investigated using light-cone sum rule method in both full QCD and HQET. The form factors describing the decay are calculated and used to predict the decay width and differential distribution. The total decay width obtained from full QCD is in agreement with the previous theoretical predictions while the HQET result are typically one order smaller. Both results are consistent with the experimental upper limit and can be compared to the refined experimental data in the future.
We investigate the Lambda_b polarization problem in the inclusive semileptonic decays of a polarized Lambda_b baryon, using the modified perturbative QCD formalism which includes Sudakov suppression. According to HQEFT, we show that, at the leading order in the 1/M_b expansion, the polarized and unpolarized distribution functions become one single universal distribution function. To explore the mechanisms which determine the spin properties of a polarized Lambda_b baryon, we construct four formalisms which are the naive quark model (QM), the modified quark model (MQM), the naive parton model (…
The differential decay spectrum $dΓ/dE_e dq^2$ for the semileptonic decay of an unpolarized hadron containing a b-quark, and the decay spectrum $dΓ/dE_e dq^2 d\!\cosθ$ for polarized $Λ_b$ decay are computed to second order in the $1/m_b$ expansion. Most of the $1/m_b^2$ corrections have a simple physical interpretation, which is discussed in detail. The implications of the results for the determination of $V_{ub}$ are discussed. The decay spectra for semileptonic decay of hadrons containing a c-quark are also given. There is a subtlety in the use of the equations of motion at order $1/m_b^2$ i…
We present theoretical evidence that the exclusive/inclusive ratio of semileptonic $Λ_b$-decays exceeds that of semileptonic B-decays where the experimental exclusive/inclusive ratio amounts to about 66%. We start from the observation that the spectator quark model provides a lower bound on the leading order Isgur-Wise function of the $Λ_b \to Λ_c$ transition in terms of the corresponding $B \to D,D^*$ mesonic Isgur-Wise function. Using experimental data for the $B \to D,D^*$ mesonic Isgur-Wise functions this bound is established. Applying a Bethe-Salpeter model including spectator quark inter…
In the heavy quark limit of QCD, using the Operator Product Expansion, the formalism of Falk for hadrons or arbitrary spin, and the non-forward amplitude, as proposed by Uraltsev, we formulate sum rules involving the Isgur-Wise function $ξ_Λ (w)$ of the baryon transition $Λ_b \to Λ_c \ell \overlineν_{\ell}$, where the light cloud has $j^P=0^+$ for both initial and final baryons. We recover the lower bound for the slope $ρ_Λ^2 = - ξ'_Λ(1) \geq 0$ obtained by Isgur et al., and we generalize it by demonstrating that the IW function $ξ_Λ (w)$ is an alternate series in powers of $(w-1)$, i.e. $(-1)…
The inclusive and exclusive semileptonic decay distributions for b -> c decay are computed in the Shifman-Voloshin limit. The inclusive decay distributions (computed using an operator product expansion) depend on quark masses, and the exclusive decay distributions depend on hadron masses. Nevertheless, we show explicitly how the first two terms in the 1/m expansion match between the inclusive and exclusive decays. Agreement between the inclusive and exclusive decay rates requires a minimum smearing region of size Lambda_QCD before local duality holds in QCD. The alpha_s corrections to the incl…
We calculate the hadronic tensor for inclusive semileptonic B decay to O(alpha_s). This allows O(alpha_s Lambda_{QCD}/mb) corrections to hadronic invariant mass observables to be directly evaluated with experimentally required cuts on phase space. Several moments of phenomenological interest are presented to O(alpha_s Lambda_{QCD}/mb) and O(Lambda_{QCD}^3/mb^3), allowing a consistent extraction of the HQET parameters up to O(Lambda_{QCD}^3/mb^3) and the b quark mass with theoretical error ~ 50 MeV. The hadronic invariant mass spectrum is examined with a general moment to obtain observables tha…
The semileptonic decays of Lambda_c and Lambda_b are treated in the framework of a constituent quark model. Both nonrelativistic and semirelativistic Hamiltonians are used to obtain the baryon wave functions from a fit to the spectra, and the wave functions are expanded in both the harmonic oscillator and Sturmian bases. The latter basis leads to form factors in which the kinematic dependence on q^2 is in the form of multipoles, and the resulting form factors fall faster as a function of q^2 in the available kinematic ranges. As a result, decay rates obtained in the two models using the Sturmi…
We present predictions based on the heavy quark expansion in QCD. We find SU(3) breaking in B mesons suppressed in the framework of the HQE. B_s is expected to have the semileptonic width about 1% lower and Lambda_b about 3% higher when compared to Gamma_{sl}(B_d). The largest partial-rate preasymptotic effect is Pauli interference in the b-->u ell nu channel in Lambda_b, about +10%. We point out that the Omega_b semileptonic width is expected not to exceed that of B_d and may turn out to be the smallest among stable b hadrons despite the large mass. The underlying differences with phase-space…
Semileptonic decays of heavy baryons consisting of one heavy (Q=b,c) and two light (q=u,d,s) quarks are considered in the heavy-quark--light-diquark approximation. The relativistic quasipotential equation is used for obtaining masses and wave functions of both diquarks and baryons within the constituent quark model. The weak transition matrix elements are expressed through the overlap integrals of the baryon wave functions. The Isgur-Wise functions are determined in the whole accessible kinematic range. The exclusive semileptonic decay rates and different asymmetries are calculated with applyi…

We present the results of the first lattice study of semileptonic decays of baryons containing a b-quark. Predictions for the decay distributions are given and the Isgur-Wise functions for heavy baryons are computed, for values of the velocity transfer up to about omega=1.2. The computations are performed on a 24^3 x 48 lattice at beta=6.2 using the Sheikholeslami-Wohlert action in the quenched approximation.
We set up sum rules for heavy lambda decays in a full QCD calculation which in the heavy quark mass limit incorporates the symmetries of heavy quark effective theory. For the semileptonic $\La_c$ decay we obtain a reasonable agreement with experiment. For the $\La_b$ semileptonic decay we find at the zero recoil point a violation of the heavy quark symmetry of about 20%.
We present an investigation of the inclusive semileptonic decay widths of the heavy baryons Lambda_Q and Xi_Q, (Q=b,c) performed within a relativistic constituent quark model, formulated on the light-front. In a way conceptually similar to the deep-inelastic scattering case, the H_Q baryon inclusive width is expressed as the integral of the free Q-quark partial width multiplied by a bound-state factor related to the Q-quark distribution function in the H_Q. The non-perturbative meson structure is described through the quark-model wave functions, constructed via the Hamiltonian light-front form…
We study the Lambda_QCD/M_B corrections from subleading shape functions in inclusive B-meson decays. We propose a natural and smooth interpolation from the endpoint region to the full phase space, and derive expressions for the triple differential decay rate in B -> X_u l nu and the photon energy spectrum in B -> X_s gamma. Our results are valid to order Lambda_QCD/M_B for hadronic invariant masses of order Lambda_QCD M_B and to order Lambda_QCD^2/M_B^2 for larger hadronic masses. They allow a systematic investigation of the transition between the separate regimes of the local and nonlocal exp…
We study consequences of the non-forward amplitude for the semileptonic baryon decay Lambda_b into Lambda_c which will be measured in detail at LHCb. We obtain a sum rule for the subleading elastic Isgur-Wise (IW) function A(w) that originates from the kinetic part of the O(1/mQ) effective Lagrangian perturbation. In the sum rule appear only the intermediate states J^P=1/2+, the same that contribute to the O(1/mQ)^2 correction to the axial-vector form factor G1(w) involved in the differential decay rate at zero recoil w=1. This allows us to obtain a lower bound on the correction -delta^(G1)_(1…
The Lambda_b to Lambda_c semileptonic decay is analyzed in the framework of heavy quark effective theory to the order of 1/m_c and 1/m_b. The QCD sum rule and large N_c predictions to the decay form factors are applied. It argues that the subleading baryonic Isgur-Wise function in the large N_c limit vanishes. The decay rates, distributions and asymmetry parameters are calculated numerically. Some of the nonleptonic decay modes are discussed in the end.
Semileptonic decays of Lambda_b and Lambda_c baryons are studied within the Relativistic Three-Quark Model using finite heavy quark mass values. Employing the same parameters as have been used previously for the description of exclusive decays of heavy baryons in the heavy quark limit we calculate the six form factors of the process and the corresponding decay rates. Our calculation shows that the ``finite mass'' corrections are important in heavy-to-light transitions and are not negligible in heavy-to-heavy transitions.
Recent advances in improving extractions of |Vcb| and m_b from spectra of semileptonic inclusive B decay are reported. Results of a general moment analysis of the lepton energy spectrum and the hadronic invariant mass spectrum are summarized. The calculation of the general O(α_s) structure functions for semileptonic B decay is reported, which has allowed the calculation of the O(α_s Lambda_{QCD} /m_b) terms for the hadronic invariant mass moments to be carried out. Recent theoretical advances and improvements in experimental data has allowed extractions of the CKM element |Vcb| to improve to t…
We present an investigation of the lepton energy distributions in the inclusive semileptonic weak decays of heavy baryons performed within a relativistic quark model formulated on the light front (LF). Using the heavy-quark LF distribution functions related to the equal time momentum wave functions taken from the Kalman--Tran--D'Souza model we compute the electron energy spectra and the total semileptonic widths of the Lambda_Q and Xi_Q (Q=c,b) baryons and confront the results with existing data.
We present an investigation of the Isgur-Wise form factor relevant for the semileptonic decay Lambda_b -> Λ_c + l nu_l performed within a light-front constituent quark model. Adopting different baryon wave functions it is found that the Isgur-Wise form factor depends sensitively on the baryon structure. It is shown however that the shape of the Isgur-Wise function in the full recoil range relevant for the Lambda_b -> Λ_c + l nu_l decay can be effectively constrained using recent lattice QCD results at low recoil. Then, the Lambda_b -> Λ_c + l nu_l decay is investigated including both radiative…
I identify a source of Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q corrections to the assumption of quark-hadron duality in the application of heavy quark methods to inclusive heavy quark semileptonic decays Q->q l nu_l. These corrections could substantially affect the accuracy of such methods in practical applications and in particular compromise their utility for the extraction of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element V_{cb}.
We summarize recent progress in the theory of exclusive rare and semileptonic B decays, focusing on model-independent results. The heavy-to-light form factors parameterizing these decays admit a model-independent description in two distinct kinematical regions. In the large-energy limit of an energetic light meson, the Soft-Collinear Effective Theory can be used to prove factorization formulas for the form factors. We present factorization formulas for all B-> P,V form factors at leading order in Lambda/m_b. Near the zero-recoil point, Heavy Quark Effective Theory gives useful relations among …
We study the semileptonic decays of the lowest-lying bc baryons to the lowest-lying cc baryons (Xi_{bc}^{(\prime*)}--> Xi_{cc}^{(*)} and Omega_{bc}^{(\prime*)}--> Omega_{cc}^{(*)}), in the limit m_b, m_c >> Lambda_{QCD} and close to the zero recoil point. The separate heavy quark spin symmetries make it possible to describe all these decays using a single form factor. We recover results derived previously by White and Savage in a manner which we think is more straightforward and parallels the method applied later to study Bc semileptonic decays. We further discuss the resemblance between the b…
We show in a model independent way the equality of the branching fractions and strong phases for B-> D_1M and B-> D_2^*M at leading order in Lambda _{QCD}/Q and alpha_s(Q) where Q={m_b,m_c,E_M} and M is a light meson. These results apply in the color allowed and color suppressed channels and follow from a factorization theorem in SCET combined with heavy quark symmetry. The expected heavy quark symmetry suppression of leading order contributions in the color allowed sector based on analysis of semileptonic decays, is shown to disappear at maximum recoil. Subleading corrections are suppressed b…
We discuss a few possible strategies for measuring the polarization of the $Λ_{\mathrm{b}}$ baryons produced in $e^+e^-$-annihilation at the $\mathrm{Z}$ resonance through their inclusive semileptonic decays. After reviewing the existing methods, a new method is proposed, based on the ratio of the averages of the squared electron and neutrino energy, including both perturbative and nonperturbative corrections. This variable minimizes the statistical error on the $Λ_{\mathrm{b}}$ polarization, while keeping the systematic theoretical errors at the level of 1-2%. A number of other polarization-s…
The weak decays Xi_b -> Lambda_b pi and Xi_c -> Lambda_c pi, in which the heavy quark is not destroyed, are discussed. The branching fractions for these decays, corresponding to an absolute rate of order 0.01 ps^{-1}, should be at a one percent level for the b hyperons and at a (few) per mill level for Xi_c, possibly making feasible their experimental study in future. It is shown, through an application of the heavy quark limit, the flavor SU(3) symmetry, and PCAC, that the Delta I = 1/2 rule should hold very well in these decays, and also that the Xi_b decays are purely S wave in the symmetry…
A shape-function independent relation is derived between the partial B->X_u+l+nu decay rate with a cut on P_+=E_X-P_X<Delta and a weighted integral over the normalized B->X_s+gamma photon-energy spectrum. The leading-power contribution to the weight function is calculated at next-to-next-to-leading order in renormalization-group improved perturbation theory, including exact two-loop matching corrections at the scale mu_i^2 ~ m_b*Lambda_{QCD}. The overall normalization of the weight function is obtained up to yet unknown corrections of order [alpha_s(m_b)]^2. Power corrections from phase-space …
We present a method to compute, by numerical simulations of lattice QCD, the inclusive semileptonic differential decay rates of heavy hadrons and the structure functions which occur in deep inelastic scattering. The method is based on first principles and does not require any model assumption. It allows the prediction of the differential rate in B semileptonic decays for values of the recoiling hadronic mass W ~ sqrt(M_B Lambda_QCD), which is in the relevant region to extract |V_ub| from the end-point of the lepton spectrum in inclusive decays.
We calculate general moments of the lepton energy spectrum in inclusive semileptonic B -> X_c l νdecay. Moments which allow the determination of mb^{1S} and lambda1 with theoretical uncertainties Delta(mb^{1S}) ~ 0.04 GeV and Delta(lambda1) ~ 0.05 GeV^2 are presented. The short distance 1S mass is used to extract a mass parameter free of renormalon ambiguities. Moments which are insensitive to mb and lambda1 and therefore test the size of the 1/mb^3 matrix elements and the validity of the OPE are also presented. Finally, we give an expression for the total branching ratio with a lower cut on t…
We check the $u$ and $d$ quark contributions to the spin content of the $Λ$ by means of the $q\toΛ$ fragmentation and find that the $u$ and $d$ quarks of the $Λ$ are likely positively polarized. The parton distributions in the $Λ$ are given by a successful statistical model which can reproduce and correlate a vast body of polarized and unpolarized structure function and parton distribution data of the nucleon. With the Gribov-Lipatov relation between the quark distributions and fragmentation functions, the longitudinal spin transfer for the $Λ$ production in the polarized charged lepton deep i…
We present a QCD-based calculation of the exclusive semileptonic decay Lambda_b -> p l nu-bar. Using the ideas of Heavy Quark Effective Theory, we discuss the factorization of the amplitude. Further, resummed Sudakov effects are put in to ensure a consistent perturbative expansion.
We discuss a method to construct observables protected against QCD uncertainties based on the angular distribution of the exclusive Bd -> K(*0}(-> Kpi) l+ l- decay. We focus on the identification and the interpretation of all the symmetries of the distribution. They constitute a key ingredient to construct a set of so-called transverse observables. We work in the framework of QCD factorization at NLO supplemented by an estimate of power-suppressed Lambda/mb corrections. A discussion of the new physics properties of two of the transverse asymmetries, AT^{(2)} and AT^{(5)}, is presented. A compa…
We present precision corrections to dispersion relation bounds on form factors in bottom hadron semileptonic decays and analyze their effects on parameterizations derived from these bounds. We incorporate QCD two-loop and nonperturbative corrections to the two-point correlator, consider form factors whose contribution to decay rates is suppressed by lepton mass, and implement more realistic estimates of truncation errors associated with the parameterizations. We include higher resonances in the hadronic sum that, together with heavy quark symmetry relations near zero recoil, further tighten th…
A critical review of the theoretical understanding of the lifetimes of beauty hadrons is given. A model-independent analysis using the heavy-quark expansion allows for a description of the lifetime ratios tau(B-)/tau(B0) and tau(Lambda_b)/tau(B0) in a small region of parameter space. It is demonstrated that the lifetime ratio tau(B-)/tau(B0) cannot be used to extract the decay constant of the B meson. Implications for the semileptonic branching ratio and charm yield in B decays are pointed out.
We propose a group theoretical method to study Isgur-Wise functions. A current matrix element splits into a heavy quark matrix element and an overlap of the initial and final clouds, related to the IW functions, that contain the long distance physics. The light cloud belongs to the Hilbert space of a unitary representation of the Lorentz group. Decomposing into irreducible representations one obtains the IW function as an integral formula, superposition of irreducible IW functions with positive measures, providing positivity bounds on its derivatives. Our method is equivalent to the sum rule a…
In new-physics processes that produce b or c jets, a measurement of the initial b or c-quark polarization could provide crucial information about the structure of the new physics. In the heavy-quark limit, the b and c-quark polarizations are preserved in the lightest baryons they hadronize into, Lambda_b and Lambda_c, respectively. We revisit the prediction for the polarization retention after the hadronization process and extend it to the case of transverse polarization. We show how ATLAS and CMS can measure the b-quark polarization using semileptonic Lambda_b decays, and the c-quark polariza…
In a recent paper, 8 semileptonic parameters were defined to specify the most general Lorentz-invariant spin correlation functions for 2-body tau decays. These parameters can be used to search for anomalous longitudinal-versus transverse polarized-partial widths, for non-CKM-type leptonic CP violation, and for leptonic T violation. They can also be used to bound the effective-mass scales ``Lambda" for new physics arising from additional Lorentz structures, e.g. from lepton compositeness, tau weak magnetism, weak electricity, or second-class currents. It is emphasized that (i) for these tests `…
A possibility is considered of explaining the low experimental value of the ratio of the lifetimes tau(Lambda_b)/tau(B_d) by a new `centiweak' four-quark interaction, i.e with a strength on the order of 10^{-2}G_F. It is noted that the considered interaction can also improve agreement with the data on low semileptonic branching ratio B_{sl}(B) in B meson decays with a simultaneous slight decrease in the prediction for the average charm yield in those decays. The proposed new interaction modifies within the present experimental limits the predictions for differences of lifetimes among B mesons,…
Lepton flavour universality (LFU) in B-decays is revisited by considering a class of semileptonic operators defined at a scale Lambda above the electroweak scale v. The importance of quantum effects, so far neglected in the literature, is emphasised. We construct the low-energy effective Lagrangian taking into account the running effects from Lambda down to v through the one-loop renormalization group equations (RGE) in the limit of exact electroweak symmetry and QED RGEs from v down to the 1 GeV scale. The most important quantum effects turn out to be the modification of the leptonic coupling…
The calculation of muon spectra from the decay of Lambda_c baryons was carried out on the basis of the description of recent data on charmed-baryon production in hadronic interactions. Data are described in the framework of Quark--Gluon String Model that allowes us to consider primary proton interactions of arbitrary high energy. MC code was built for charmed-baryon semileptonic decay in order to obtain the kinematical characteristics of resulting particles. It is predicted that the charge asymmetry between energy spectra of mu+ and mu- in laboratory system is clearly seen as the consequence o…
Semileptonic heavy -> heavy and heavy -> light meson transitions are studied as a phenomenological application of a heavy-quark limit of Dyson-Schwinger equations. Employing two parameters: E, the difference between the mass of the heavy meson and the effective-mass of the heavy quark; and Lambda, the width of the heavy-meson Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, we calculate f_+(t) for all decays on their entire kinematically accessible t-domain. Our study favours f_B in the range 0.135-0.17 GeV and with E=0.44 GeV and 1/Lambda = 0.14 fm we obtain f_+^{B pi}(0) = 0.46. As a result of neglecting 1/m_c-cor…
