For a family of minimal helicoids H_a in the hyperbolic 3-space, there exists a constant a_c=2.17966 such that the following statements are true: (1) H_a is a globally stable minimal surface if 0<=a<=a_c, and (2) H_a is an unstable minimal surface with index one if a>a_c.
In this paper, we study the stability of catenoids and helicoids in the hyperbolic $3$-space $\mathbb{H}^3$. (1) For a family of spherical minimal catenoids $\{\mathcal{C}_a\}_{a>0}$ in $\mathbb{H}^3$, there exist two constants $0<a_c<a_l$ such that $\bullet$ $\mathcal{C}_a$ is an unstable minimal surface with index one if $a<a_c$, $\bullet$ $\mathcal{C}_a$ is a globally stable minimal surface if $a\geq{}a_c$, and $\bullet$ $\mathcal{C}_a$ is a least area minimal surface in the sense of Meeks and Yau if $a\geq{}a_l$. (2) For a family of minimal helicoids $\{\mathcal{H}_{\bar{a}}\}_{\bar{a…
In this paper we generalize a classical result of Bour concerning helicoidal surfaces in the three-dimensional Euclidean space R^3 to the case of helicoidal surfaces in the Bianchi-Cartan-Vranceanu (BCV) spaces, i.e. in the Riemannian 3-manifolds whose metrics have groups of isometries of dimension $4$ or $6$, except the hyperbolic one. In particular, we prove that in a BCV-space there exists a two-parameter family of helicoidal surfaces isometric to a given helicoidal surface; then, by making use of this two-parameter representation, we characterize helicoidal surfaces which have constant mea…

In this paper we give an upper bound of the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator on a complete stable minimal hypersurface $M$ in the hyperbolic space which has finite $L^2$-norm of the second fundamental form on $M$. We provide some sufficient conditions for minimal hypersurface of the hyperbolic space to be stable. We also describe stability of catenoids and helicoids in the hyperbolic space. In particular, it is shown that there exists a family of stable higher-dimensional catenoids in the hyperbolic space.
We derive necessary conditions on the parameters of the ends of a CMC-1 trinoid in hyperbolic 3-space $H^{3}$ with symmetry plane by passing to its conjugate minimal surface. Together with Daniel's results, this yields a classification of generic symmetric trinoids. We also discuss the relation to other classification results of trinoids by Bobenko et al. and Umehara-Yamada. To obtain the result above, we show that the conjugate minimal surface of a catenoidal CMC-1 end in $H^{3}$ with symmetry plane is asymptotic to a suitable helicoid.
Following Riemann's idea, we prove the existence of a minimal disk in Euclidean space bounded by three lines in generic position and with three helicoidal ends of angles less than $π$. In the case of general angles, we prove that there exist at most four such minimal disks, we give a sufficient condition of existence in terms of a system of three equations of degree 2, and we give explicit formulas for the Weierstrass data in terms of hypergeometric functions. Finally, we construct constant-mean-curvature-one trinoids in hyperbolic space by the method of the conjugate cousin immersion.
It is shown that parts of planes, helicoids and hyperbolic paraboloids are the only minimal surfaces ruled by geodesics in the three dimensional Riemannian Heisenberg group. It is also shown that they are the only surfaces in the three dimensional Heisenberg group whose mean curvature is zero with respect to both of the standard Riemannian metric and the standard Lorentzian metric.
We prove the existence of $C^{1,1}$ isometric immersions of several classes of metrics on surfaces $(\mathcal{M},g)$ into the three-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^3$, where the metrics $g$ have strictly negative curvature. These include the standard hyperbolic plane, generalised helicoid-type metrics and generalised Enneper metrics. Our proof is based on the method of compensated compactness and invariant regions in hyperbolic conservation laws, together with several observations on the geometric quantities (Gauss curvature, metric components etc.) of negatively curved surfaces.
In this paper we establish conditions on the length of the second fundamental form of a complete minimal submanifold $M^n$ in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+m}$ in order to show that $M^n$ is totally geodesic. We also obtain sharp upper bounds estimates for the first eigenvalue of the super stability operator in the case of $M$ is a surface in $\mathbb{H}^{4}$.
We show that there exists a suitable neighborhood of a constant curvature hyperbolic metric such that, for all initial data in this neighborhood, the corresponding solution to a normalized cross curvature flow exists for all time and converges to a hyperbolic metric. We show that the same technique proves an analogous result for Ricci flow. Additionally, we show short time existence and uniqueness of cross curvature flow for a more general class of initial data than was previously known.
We study the normal operator to the geodesic X-ray transform on functions in the setting of simple asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We construct a parametrix for the normal operator in the 0-pseudodifferential calculus and use it show a stability estimate.
This paper studies the normalized Ricci flow from a slight perturbation of the hyperbolic metric on $\mathbb H^n$. It's proved that if the perturbation is small and decays sufficiently fast at the infinity, then the flow will converge exponentially fast to the hyperbolic metric when the dimension $n>5$.
We show that every finite volume hyperbolic manifold of dimension greater or equal to 3 is stable under rescaled Ricci flow, i.e. that every small perturbation of the hyperbolic metric flows back to the hyperbolic metric again. Note that we do not need to make any decay assumptions on this perturbation. It will turn out that the main difficulty in the proof comes from a weak stability of the cusps which has to do with infinitesimal cusp deformations. We will overcome this weak stability by using a new analytical method developed by Koch and Lamm.
This paper is a sequel to \cite{Xu}. In this paper, an estimation of the Bergman Kernel of Kähler hyperbolic manifold is given by the $L^2$ estimate and the Bochner formula. As an application, an effective criterion of the very ampleness of the canonical line bundle of Kähler hyperbolic manifold is given, which is a generalization of Yeung's result.
We provide sharp stability estimates for the Alexandrov Soap Bubble Theorem in the hyperbolic space. The closeness to a single sphere is quantified in terms of the dimension, the measure of the hypersurface and the radius of the touching ball condition. As consequence we obtain a new pinching result for hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space. Our approach is based on the method of moving planes. In this context we carefully review the method and we provide the first quantitative study in the hyperbolic space.
Using the maximal regularity theory for quasilinear parabolic systems, we prove two stability results of complex hyperbolic space under the curvature-normalized Ricci flow in complex dimensions two and higher. The first result is on a closed manifold. The second result is on a complete noncompact manifold. To prove both results, we fully analyze the structure of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian on complex hyperbolic space. To prove the second result, we also define suitably weighted little Hölder spaces on a complete noncompact manifold and establish their interpolation properties.
We consider the dynamic property of the volume preserving mean curvature flow. This flow was introduced by Huisken who also proved it converges to a round sphere of the same enclosed volume if the initial hypersurface is strictly convex in Euclidean space. We study the stability of this flow in hyperbolic space. In particular, we prove that if the initial hypersurface is hyperbolically mean convex and close to an umbilical sphere in the $L^2$-sense, then the flow exists for all time and converges exponentially to an umbilical sphere.
In this paper we establish the short-time existence and uniqueness theorem for hyperbolic geometric flow, and prove the nonlinear stability of hyperbolic geometric flow defined on the Euclidean space with dimension larger than 4. Wave equations satisfied by the curvatures are derived. The relation of hypergeometric flow to the Einstein equation and the Ricci flow is discussed.
In this paper we establish stability results for symmetric spaces of noncompact type under Ricci flow, i.e. we will show that any small perturbation of the symmetric metric is flown back to the original metric under an appropriately rescaled Ricci flow. It will be important for us which smallness assumptions we have to impose on the initial perturbation. We will find that as long as the symmetric space does not contain any hyperbolic or complex hyperbolic factor, we don't have to assume any decay on the perturbation. Furthermore, in the hyperbolic and complex hyperbolic case, we show stability…
We study the Ricci flow of initial metrics which are C^0-perturbations of the hyperbolic metric on H^n. If the perturbation is bounded in the L^2-sense, and small enough in the C^0-sense, then we show the following: In dimensions four and higher, the scaled Ricci harmonic map heat flow of such a metric converges smoothly, uniformly and exponentially fast in all C^k-norms and in the L^2-norm to the hyperbolic metric as time approaches infinity. We also prove a related result for the Ricci flow and for the two-dimensional conformal Ricci flow.
This paper concerns with deformations of noncompact complex hyperbolic manifolds (with locally Bergman metric), varieties of discrete representations of their fundamental groups into $PU(n,1)$ and the problem of (quasiconformal) stability of deformations of such groups and manifolds in the sense of L.Bers and D.Sullivan. Despite Goldman-Millson-Yue rigidity results for such complex manifolds of infinite volume, we present different classes of such manifolds that allow non-trivial (quasi-Fuchsian) deformations and point out that such flexible manifolds have a common feature being Stein spaces. …
