In earlier papers, we introduced spherical T-duality, which relates pairs of the form $(P,H)$ consisting of an oriented $S^3$-bundle $P\rightarrow M$ and a 7-cocycle $H$ on $P$ called the 7-flux. Intuitively, the spherical T-dual is another such pair $(\hat P, \hat H)$ and spherical T-duality exchanges the 7-flux with the Euler class, upon fixing the Pontryagin class and the second Stiefel-Whitney class. Unless $\mathrm{dim}(M)\leq 4$, not all pairs admit spherical T-duals and the spherical T-duals are not always unique. In this paper, we define a canonical Poincaré virtual line bundle $\mathcal{P}$ on $S^3 \times S^3$ (actually also for $S^n\times S^n$) and the spherical Fourier-Mukai transform, which implements a degree shifting isomorphism in K-theory on the trivial $S^3$-bundle. This is then used to prove that all spherical T-dualities induce natural degree-shifting isomorphisms between the 7-twisted K-theories of the pairs $(P,H)$ and $(\hat P, \hat H)$ when $\mathrm{dim}(M)\leq 4$, improving our earlier results.
The classical Fourier-Mukai duality establishes an equivalence of categories between the derived categories of sheaves on dual complex tori. In this article we show that this equivalence extends to an equivalence between two dual objects. Both of these are generalized deformations of the complex tori. In one case, a complex torus is deformed formally in a non-commutative direction specified by a holomorphic Poisson structure. In the other, the dual complex torus is deformed in a B-field direction to a formal gerbe. We show these two deformations are Fourier-Mukai equivalent.
We use a relative Fourier-Mukai transform on elliptic K3 surfaces $X$ to describe mirror symmetry. The action of this Fourier-Mukai transform on the cohomology ring of $X$ reproduces relative T-duality and provides an infinitesimal isometry of the moduli space of algebraic structures on $X$ which, in view of the triviality of the quantum cohomology of K3 surfaces, can be interpreted as mirror symmetry.
We propose a microscopic description of black strings in F-theory based on string duality and Fourier-Mukai transform. These strings admit several different microscopic descriptions involving D-brane as well as M2 or M5-brane configurations on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds. In particular our results can also be interpreted as an asymptotic microstate count for D6-D2-D0 configurations in the limit of large D2-charge on the elliptic fiber. The leading behavior of the microstate degeneracy in this limit is shown to agree with the macroscopic entropy formula derived from the black str…
Fibrewise T-duality (Fourier-Mukai transform) for D-branes on an elliptic Calabi-Yau three-fold $X$ is seen to have an expected adiabatic form for its induced cohomology operation only when an appropriately twisted operation resp. twisted charge is defined. Some differences with the case of $K3$ as well as connections with the spectral cover construction for bundles on $X$ are pointed out. In the context of mirror symmetry Kontsevich's association of line bundle twists (resp. a certain 'diagonal' operation) with monodromies (esp. the conifold monodromy) is made explicit and checked for two exa…
We give an introductory review of Fourier-Mukai transforms and their application to various aspects of moduli problems, string theory and mirror symmetry. We develop the necessary mathematical background for Fourier-Mukai transforms such as aspects of derived categories and integral functors as well as their relative version which becomes important for making precise the notion of fiberwise T-duality on elliptic Calabi-Yau threefolds. We discuss various applications of the Fourier-Mukai transform to D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds as well as homological mirror symmetry and the construction of…
T-duality (Fourier-Mukai duality) and properties of classical instanton moduli spaces can be used to deduce some properties of $α^{\prime}$-corrected moduli spaces of branes for Type IIA string theory compactified on $K3$ or $T^4$. Some interesting differences between the two compactifications are exhibited.
Recently we initiated the study of spherical T-duality for spacetimes that are principal SU(2)-bundles. In this paper, we extend spherical T-duality to spacetimes that are oriented non-principal SU(2)-bundles. There are several interesting new examples in this case and a new phenomenon appearing in the non-principal case is the existence of infinitely many spherical T-duals.
Fibrewise T-duality (Fourier-Mukai transform) for D-branes on an elliptic Calabi-Yau $X$ is shown to require naturally an appropriate twisting of the operation respectively a twisted charge. The fibrewise T-duality is furthermore expressed through known monodromies in the context of Kontsevich's interpretation of mirror symmetry.
We consider a general class of symmetries of hyper-Kahler quotients which can be interpreted as classical analogs of Seiberg duality for N=2 supersymmetric quiver gauge theories in the baryonic Higgs branch. Along the way we find that a limit application of this duality yields new exotic realizations of ALE spaces as hyper-Kahler quotients. We also discuss how these results admit in some particular cases a natural interpretation in string theory. We finally comment on a possible relationship with Fourier-Mukai tranforms.
We introduce spherical T-duality, which relates pairs of the form $(P,H)$ consisting of a principal $SU(2)$-bundle $P\rightarrow M$ and a 7-cocycle $H$ on $P$. Intuitively spherical T-duality exchanges $H$ with the second Chern class $c_2(P)$. Unless $dim(M)\leq 4$, not all pairs admit spherical T-duals and the spherical T-duals are not always unique. Nonetheless, we prove that all spherical T-dualities induce a degree-shifting isomorphism on the 7-twisted cohomologies of the bundles and, when $dim(M)\leq 7$, also their integral twisted cohomologies and, when $dim(M)\leq 4$, even their 7-twist…
In this work we obtain the non-abelian T-dual geometry of the well-known Pilch-Warner supergravity solution in its infrared point. We derive the dual metric and the NS two-form by gauging the isometry group of the initial theory and integrating out the introduced auxiliary gauge fields. Then we use the Fourier-Mukai transform from algebraic geometry to find the transformation rules of the R-R fields. The dual background preserves the $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry of the original one due to the fact that the Killing spinor does not depend on the directions on which the N-AT-D is performed. Fina…
In this paper, we construct for higher twists that arise from cohomotopy classes, the Chern character in higher twisted K-theory, that maps into higher twisted cohomology. We show that it gives rise to an isomorphism between higher twisted K-theory and higher twisted cohomology over the reals. Finally we compute spherical T-duality in higher twisted K-theory and higher twisted cohomology in very general cases.
We investigate the gauge/gravity duality in the interaction between two spherical membranes in the 11-dimensional pp-wave background. On the supergravity side, we find the solution to the field equations at locations close to a spherical source membrane, and use it to obtain the light cone Lagrangian of a spherical probe membrane very close to the source, i.e., with their separation much smaller than their radii. On the gauge theory side, using the BMN matrix model, we compute the one-loop effective potential between two membrane fuzzy spheres. Perfect agreement is found between the two sides.…
(Anti)self-dual solutions of the scale invariant SU(2) gauged Grassmanian model are sought. A stronger (anti)selfduality condition for this system is defined, referred to as strong self-duality, and spherically symmetric solutions of this {\it strong} (anti)self-duality equations are found in closed form. It is verified that these are the only solutions of the strong (anti)self-duality equations. The usual (anti)self-duality equations for the axially symmetric fields are derived and seen to be not overdetermined.
We study the octonionic selfduality equations for $p=3$-branes in the light cone gauge and we construct explicitly, instanton solutions for spherical and toroidal topologies in various flat spacetime dimensions $(D=5+1,7+1,8+1,9+1)$, extending previous results for $p=2$ membranes. Assuming factorization of time we reduce the self-duality equations to integrable systems and we determine explicitly periodic, in Euclidean time, solutions in terms of the elliptic functions. These solutions describe 4d associative and non-associative calibrations in $D=7,8$ dimensions. It turns out that for spheric…
After reviewing the algebraic structures that underlie the geometries of N=2 Maxwell-Einstein supergravity theories (MESGT) in five and four dimensions with symmetric scalar manifolds, we give a unified realization of their three dimensional U-duality groups as spectrum generating quasiconformal groups. They are F_{4(4)}, E_{6(2)}, E_{7(-5)}, E_{8(-24)} and SO(n+2,4). Our formulation is covariant with respect to U-duality symmetry groups of corresponding five dimensional supergravity theories, which are SL(3,R), SL(3,C), SU*(6), E_{6(6)} and SO(n-1,1)X SO(1,1), respectively. We determine the s…
The monodromy matrix, ${\hat{\cal M}}$, is constructed for two dimensional tree level string effective action. The pole structure of ${\hat{\cal M}}$ is derived using its factorizability property. It is found that the monodromy matrix transforms non-trivially under the non-compact T-duality group, which leaves the effective action invariant and this can be used to construct the monodromy matrix for more complicated backgrounds starting from simpler ones. We construct, explicitly, ${\hat{\cal M}}$ for the exactly solvable Nappi-Witten model, both when B=0 and $B\neq 0$, where these ideas can be…
We review the status of electric/magnetic duality for free gauge field theories in four space-time dimensions with emphasis on Maxwell theory and linearized Einstein gravity. Using the theory of vector and tensor spherical harmonics, we provide explicit construction of dual photons and gravitons by decomposing the fields into axial and polar configurations with opposite parity and interchanging the two sectors. When the theories are defined on AdS(4) space-time there are boundary manifestations of the duality, which for the case of gravity account for the energy-momentum/Cotton tensor duality …
We report the discovered class of exact static solutions of several 4D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton systems: string-induced, Liouville, trigonometric, polynomial, etc., for three basic topologies (spherical, hyperbolical and flat) being uniformly treated. In addition to the usual electric-magnetic duality this class obeys a certain extended duality between Maxwell-dilaton coupling and dilaton mass. Though major solutions we obtain are dyonic, the class also comprises interesting neutral models. As a by-product, we significantly succeded in resolving of the two important problems, one of which has …
