In this paper we present a theoretical analysis of graph-based service composition in terms of its dependency with service discovery. Driven by this analysis we define a composition framework by means of integration with fine-grained I/O service discovery that enables the generation of a graph-based composition which contains the set of services that are semantically relevant for an input-output request. The proposed framework also includes an optimal composition search algorithm to extract the best composition from the graph minimising the length and the number of services, and different graph optimisations to improve the scalability of the system. A practical implementation used for the empirical analysis is also provided. This analysis proves the scalability and flexibility of our proposal and provides insights on how integrated composition systems can be designed in order to achieve good performance in real scenarios for the Web.

The transition to Industry 4.0 requires smart manufacturing systems that are easily configurable and provide a high level of flexibility during manufacturing in order to achieve mass customization or to support cloud manufacturing. To realize this, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods find their way into manufacturing shop floors. For using AI methods in the context of Industry 4.0, semantic web services are indispensable to provide a reasonable abstraction of the underlying manufacturing capabilities. In this paper, we present semantic web services …

Reducing the effort required to make changes in web services is one of the primary goals in web service projects maintenance and evolution. Normally, functional and non-functional testing of a web service is performed by testing the operations specified in its WSDL. The regression testing is performed by identifying the changes made thereafter to the web service code and the WSDL. In this thesis, we present a tool-supported approach to perform efficient regression testing of web services. By representing a web service as a directed graph of WSDL elements, we identify and gathers the changed po…

In this paper, we present SATIS, a framework to derive Web Service specifications from end-user's requirements in order to opera-tionalise business processes in the context of a specific application domain. The aim of SATIS is to provide to neuroscientists, which are not familiar with computer science, a complete solution to easily find a set of Web Services to implement an image processing pipeline. More precisely, our framework offers the capability to capture high-level end-user's requirements in an iterative and incremental way and to turn them into queries to retrieve Web Services descrip…

This work aims to resolve issues related to Web Service retrieval, also known as Service Selection, Discovery or essentially Matching, in two directions. Firstly, a novel matching algorithm for SAWSDL is introduced. The algorithm is hybrid in nature, combining novel and known concepts, such as a logic-based strategy and syntactic text-similarity measures on semantic annotations and textual descriptions. A plugin for the S3 contest environment was developed, in order to position Tomaco amongst state-of-the-art in an objective, reproducible manner. Evaluation showed that Tomaco ranks high amongs…

In this work, we show how to discover a semantic web service among a repository of web services. A new approach for web service discovery based on calculating the functions similarity. We define the Web service functions with Ontology Web Language (OWL). We wrote some rules for comparing two web services` parameters. Our algorithm compares the parameters of two web services` inputs/outputs by making a bipartite graph. We compute the similarity rate by using the Ford-Fulkerson algorithm. The higher the similarity, the less are the differences between their functions. At last, our algorithm choo…
Web services allow communication between heterogeneous systems in a distributed environment. Their enormous success and their increased use led to the fact that thousands of Web services are present on the Internet. This significant number of Web services which not cease to increase has led to problems of the difficulty in locating and classifying web services, these problems are encountered mainly during the operations of web services discovery and substitution. Traditional ways of search based on keywords are not successful in this context, their results do not support the structure of Web s…

The semantic information regulates the expressiveness of a web service. State-of-the-art approaches in web services research have used the semantics of a web service for different purposes, mainly for service discovery, composition, execution etc. In this paper, our main focus is on semantic driven Quality of Service (QoS) aware service composition. Most of the contemporary approaches on service composition have used the semantic information to combine the services appropriately to generate the composition solution. However, in this paper, our intention is to use the semantic information to ex…
Distributed computing which uses Web services as fundamental elements, enables high-speed development of software applications through composing many interoperating, distributed, re-usable, and autonomous services. As a fundamental challenge for service developers, service composition must fulfil functional requirements and optimise Quality of Service (QoS) attributes, simultaneously. On the other hand, huge amounts of data have been created by advances in technologies, which may be exchanged between services. Data-intensive Web services are of great interest to implement data-intensive proces…
Automatic service composition in mobile and pervasive computing faces many challenges due to the complex and highly dynamic nature of the environment. Common approaches consider service composition as a decision problem whose solution is usually addressed from optimization perspectives which are not feasible in practice due to the intractability of the problem, limited computational resources of smart devices, service host's mobility, and time constraints to tailor composition plans. Thus, our main contribution is the development of a cognitively-inspired agent-based service composition model …
Web Service is one of the most significant current discussions in information sharing technologies and one of the examples of service oriented processing. To ensure accurate execution of web services operations, it must be adaptable with policies of the social networks in which it signs up. This adaptation implements using controls called 'Commitment'. This paper describes commitments structure and existing research about commitments and social web services, then suggests an algorithm for consistency of commitments in social web services. As regards the commitments may be executed concurrently…

With an increasing number of web services, providing an end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee in responding to user queries is becoming an important concern. Multiple QoS parameters (e.g., response time, latency, throughput, reliability, availability, success rate) are associated with a service, thereby, service composition with a large number of candidate services is a challenging multi-objective optimization problem. In this paper, we study the multi-constrained multi-objective QoS aware web service composition problem and propose three different approaches to solve the same, one opt…
Web Service Composition (WSC) is a particularly promising application of Web services, where multiple individual services with specific functionalities are composed to accomplish a more complex task, which must fulfil functional requirements and optimise Quality of Service (QoS) attributes, simultaneously. Additionally, large quantities of data, produced by technological advances, need to be exchanged between services. Data-intensive Web services, which manipulate and deal with those data, are of great interest to implement data-intensive processes, such as distributed Data-intensive Web Servi…

Our software system simulates the classical collaborative Japanese poetry form, renga, made of linked haikus. We used NLP methods wrapped up as web services. Our experiments were only a partial success, since results fail to satisfy classical constraints. To gather ideas for future work, we examine related research in semiotics, linguistics, and computing.

In this work we propose a new approach for semantic web matching to improve the performance of Web Service replacement. Because in automatic systems we should ensure the self-healing, self-configuration, self-optimization and self-management, all services should be always available and if one of them crashes, it should be replaced with the most similar one. Candidate services are advertised in Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) all in Web Ontology Language (OWL). By the help of bipartite graph, we did the matching between the crashed service and a Candidate one. Then we ch…

In this paper we present a hybrid approach for automatic composition of Web services that generates semantic input-output based compositions with optimal end-to-end QoS, minimizing the number of services of the resulting composition. The proposed approach has four main steps: 1) generation of the composition graph for a request; 2) computation of the optimal composition that minimizes a single objective QoS function; 3) multi-step optimizations to reduce the search space by identifying equivalent and dominated services; and 4) hybrid local-global search to extract the optimal QoS with the mini…
