We study how regularity along a submanifold of a differential or microdifferential system can propagate from a family of submanifolds to another. The first result is that a microdifferential system regular along a lagrangian foliation is regular. However, when restricted to a fixed submanifold the corresponding result is true only under a condition on the characteristic variety.
We prove the existence of approximate solutions in the (regular) Denjoy-Carleman sense for some systems of smooth complex vector fields. Such approximate solutions provide a well defined notion of Denjoy-Carleman wave front set of distributions on maximally real submanifolds in complex space which can be characterized in terms of the decay of the Fourier-Bros-Iagolnitzer transform. We also apply the approximate solutions to analyze the Denjoy-Carleman microlocal regularity of solutions of certain systems of first-order nonlinear partial differential equations.
In this paper, we prove that any $C^{1}$-regular Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifold in a symplectic manifold is smooth. More broadly, we develop a regularity theory for a class of fourth order nonlinear elliptic equations with two distributional derivatives. Our fourth order regularity theory originates in the geometrically motivated variational problem for the volume functional, but should have applications beyond.
We consider integral area-minimizing $2$-dimensional currents $T$ in $U\subset \mathbb R^{2+n}$ with $\partial T = Q[\![Γ]\!]$, where $Q\in \mathbb N \setminus \{0\}$ and $Γ$ is sufficiently smooth. We prove that, if $q\in Γ$ is a point where the density of $T$ is strictly below $\frac{Q+1}{2}$, then the current is regular at $q$. The regularity is understood in the following sense: there is a neighborhood of $q$ in which $T$ consists of a finite number of regular minimal submanifolds meeting transversally at $Γ$ (and counted with the appropriate integer multiplicity). In view of well-known ex…
We prove the existence of the flow by curvature of regular planar networks starting from an initial network which is non-regular. The proof relies on a monotonicity formula for expanding solutions and a local regularity result for the network flow in the spirit of B. White's local regularity theorem for mean curvature flow. We also show a pseudolocality theorem for mean curvature flow in any codimension, assuming only that the initial submanifold can be locally written as a graph with sufficiently small Lipschitz constant.
