We give some general criteria, when kappa-complete forcing preserves largeness properties -- like kappa-presaturation of normal ideals on lambda (even when they concentrate on small cofinalities). Then we quite accurately obtain the consistency strength ``NS_lambda is aleph_1-preserving'', for lambda > aleph_2 .

Forcing axioms and the complexity of non-stationary ideals

We study the influence of strong forcing axioms on the complexity of the non-stationary ideal on $ω_2$ and its restrictions to certain cofinalities. Our main result shows that the strengthening $MM^{++}$ of Martin's Maximum does not decide whether the restriction of the non-stationary ideal on $ω_2$ to sets of ordinals of countable cofinality is $Δ_1$-definable by formulas with parameters in $H(ω_3)$. Non-stationary support iterations of Prikry Forcings and Restrictions of Ultrapower Embeddings to the Ground Model

We study the nonstationary-support iteration of Prikry forcings below a measurable cardinal κ, characterizing all the normal measures it carries in the generic extension. We then analyze the restriction of ultrapower embeddings, taken with such a normal measure in the generic extension, to the ground model. We prove that every such restriction is an iterated ultrapwer of the ground model, and provide a sufficient condition for its definability there. This is done without core-model theoretic arguments: the assumption that GCH holds in the ground model up to κsuffices.

Subcompact cardinals, squares, and stationary reflection

We generalise Jensen's result on the incompatibility of subcompactness with square. We show that alpha^+-subcompactness of some cardinal less than or equal to alpha precludes square_alpha, but also that square may be forced to hold everywhere where this obstruction is not present.
