We consider multivariate integration in the randomized setting. The function spaces which we study are defined on R^s with respect to the Gaussian measure and the functions are characterized by the decay of their Hermite coefficients. We study tractability of Monte Carlo integration and give necessary and sufficient conditions to achieve tractability.
In this paper we consider integration and $L_2$-approximation for functions over $\RR^s$ from weighted Hermite spaces. The first part of the paper is devoted to a comparison of several weighted Hermite spaces that appear in literature, which is interesting on its own. Then we study tractability of the integration and $L_2$-approximation problem for the introduced Hermite spaces, which describes the growth rate of the information complexity when the error threshold $\varepsilon$ tends to 0 and the problem dimension $s$ grows to infinity. Our main results are characterizations of tractability in…
We study numerical integration for a weighted Korobov space of analytic periodic functions for which the Fourier coefficients decay exponentially fast. In particular, we are interested in how the error depends on the dimension $d$. Many recent papers deal with this problem or similar problems and provide matching necessary and sufficient conditions for various notions of tractability. In most cases even simple algorithms are known which allow to achieve these notions of tractability. However, there is a gap in the literature: while for the notion of exponential-weak tractability one knows matc…
In recent years finite tensor products of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHSs) of Gaussian kernels on the one hand and of Hermite spaces on the other hand have been considered in tractability analysis of multivariate problems. In the present paper we study countably infinite tensor products for both types of spaces. We show that the incomplete tensor product in the sense of von Neumann may be identified with an RKHS whose domain is a proper subset of the sequence space $\mathbb{R}^\mathbb{N}$. Moreover, we show that each tensor product of spaces of Gaussian kernels having square-summable …

We study the conservation properties of the Hermite-discontinuous Galerkin (Hermite-DG) approximation of the Vlasov-Maxwell equations. In this semi-discrete formulation, the total mass is preserved independently for every plasma species. Further, an energy invariant exists if central numerical fluxes are used in the DG approximation of Maxwell's equations, while a dissipative term is present when upwind fluxes are employed. In general, traditional temporal integrators might fail to preserve invariants associated with conservation laws during the time evolution. Hence, we analyze the capability…
A space-time adaptive scheme is presented for solving advection equations in two space dimensions. The gradient-augmented level set method using a semi-Lagrangian formulation with backward time integration is coupled with a point value multiresolution analysis using Hermite interpolation. Thus locally refined dyadic spatial grids are introduced which are efficiently implemented with dynamic quadtree data structures. For adaptive time integration, an embedded Runge-Kutta method is employed. The precision of the new fully adaptive method is analysed and speed up of CPU time and memory compressio…
The Gaussian kernel plays a central role in machine learning, uncertainty quantification and scattered data approximation, but has received relatively little attention from a numerical analysis standpoint. The basic problem of finding an algorithm for efficient numerical integration of functions reproduced by Gaussian kernels has not been fully solved. In this article we construct two classes of algorithms that use $N$ evaluations to integrate $d$-variate functions reproduced by Gaussian kernels and prove the exponential or super-algebraic decay of their worst-case errors. In contrast to earli…
This work outlines a fast, high-precision time-domain solver for scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations on hyperboloidal foliations of Kerr space-times. Time-domain Teukolsky equation solvers have typically used explicit methods, which numerically violate Noether symmetries and are Courant-limited. These restrictions can limit the performance of explicit schemes when simulating long-time extreme mass ratio inspirals, expected to appear in LISA band for 2-5 years. We thus explore symmetric (exponential, Padé or Hermite) integrators, which are unconditionally stable and known to…
The R package calculus implements C++ optimized functions for numerical and symbolic calculus, such as the Einstein summing convention, fast computation of the Levi-Civita symbol and generalized Kronecker delta, Taylor series expansion, multivariate Hermite polynomials, high-order derivatives, ordinary differential equations, differential operators and numerical integration in arbitrary orthogonal coordinate systems. The library applies numerical methods when working with R functions or symbolic programming when working with characters or expressions. The package handles multivariate numerical…
