We study the $p$-adic loop group Iwahori-Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}(G^+,I)$ constructed by Braverman, Kazhdan, and Patnaik and give positive answers to two of their conjectures. First, we algebraically develop the "double coset basis" of $\mathcal{H}(G^+,I)$ given by indicator functions of double cosets. We prove a generalization of the Iwahori-Matsumoto formula, and as a consequence, we prove that the structure coefficients of the double coset basis are polynomials in the order of the residue field. The basis is naturally indexed by a semi-group $\mathcal{W}_\mathcal{T}$ on which Braverman, Kazhdan, and Patnaik define a preorder. Their preorder is a natural generalization of the Bruhat order on affine Weyl groups, and they conjecture that the preorder is a partial order. We define another order on $\mathcal{W}_\mathcal{T}$ which is graded by a length function and is manifestly a partial order. We prove the two definitions coincide, which implies a positive answer to their conjecture. Interestingly, the length function seems to naturally take values in $\mathbb{Z} \oplus \mathbb{Z} \varepsilon$ where $\varepsilon$ is "infinitesimally" small.
The Casselman basis of Iwahori fixed vectors in a principal series representation of a p-adic group G is dual to the standard intertwining operators. To compute it one must compute a matrix m(u,v) indexed by pairs of Weyl group elements. This matrix is upper triangular with respect to the Bruhat order. In general this matrix is difficult to compute but it is shown that certain elements have a nice expression. This is also true of the inverse matrix to m(u,v). This leads to interesting conjectures regarding the Bruhat order.
Let $G$ be the group of rational points of a split connected reductive group over a nonarchimedean local field of residue characteristic $p$. Let $I$ be a pro-$p$ Iwahori subgroup of $G$ and let $R$ be a commutative quasi-Frobenius ring. If $H=R[I\backslash G/I]$ denotes the pro-$p$ Iwahori-Hecke algebra of $G$ over $R$ we clarify the relation between the category of $H$-modules and the category of $G$-equivariant coefficient systems on the semisimple Bruhat-Tits building of $G$. If $R$ is a field of characteristic zero this yields alternative proofs of the exactness of the Schneider-Stuhler r…
In this paper we construct an analogue of Iwahori-Hecke algebras of SL_2 over 2-dimensional local fields. After considering coset decompositions of double cosets of a Iwahori subgroup, we define a convolution product on the space of certain functions on SL_2, and prove that the product is well-defined. Then we investigate the structure of the Hecke algebra. We determine the center of the Hecke algebra and consider Iwahori-Matsumoto type relations.
In this paper, we consider affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties $X_w(b)$ and their certain union $X(μ,b)$ inside the affine flag variety of a reductive group. Several important results in the study of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties have been established under the so-called superregularity hypothesis. Such results include a description of generic Newton points in Iwahori double cosets of loop groups, covering relation in associated Iwahori-Weyl group and dimension formula for $X(μ,b)$. We show that one can considerably weaken the superregularity hypothesis and sometimes completely eliminate it, t…
We construct $p$-adic analogs of operator colligations and their characteristic functions. Consider a $p$-adic group $G=GL(α+k\infty, Q_p)$, its subgroup $L=O(k\infty,Z_p)$, and the subgroup $K=O(\infty,Z_p)$ embedded to $L$ diagonally. We show that double cosets $Γ= K\setminus G/K$ admit a structure of a semigroup, $Γ$ acts naturally in $K$-fixed vectors of unitary representations of $G$. For each double coset we assign a 'characteristic function', which sends a certain Bruhat--Tits building to another building (buildings are finite-dimensional); image of the distinguished boundary is contain…
Let A be a local commutative principal ideal ring. We study the double coset space of GL(n,A) with respect to the subgroup of upper triangular matrices. Geometrically, these cosets describe the relative position of two full flags of free primitive submodules of A^n. If k is the length of the ring, we determine for which of the pairs (n,k) the double coset space depend on the ring in question. For n=3, we give a complete parametrisation of the double coset space and provide estimates on the rate of growth of the number of double cosets.
For infinite-dimensional groups $G\supset K$ the double cosets $K\setminus G/K$ quite often admit a structure of a semigroup; these semigroups act in $K$-fixed vectors of unitary representations of $G$. We show that such semigroups can be obtained as limits of double cosets hypergroups (or Iwahori--Hecke type algebras) on finite-dimensional (or finite) groups.
We lift the parabolic quantum Bruhat graph into the Bruhat order on the affine Weyl group and into Littelmann's poset on level-zero weights. We establish a quantum analogue of Deodhar's Bruhat-minimum lift from a parabolic quotient of the Weyl group. This result asserts a remarkable compatibility of the quantum Bruhat graph on the Weyl group, with the cosets for every parabolic subgroup. Also, we generalize Postnikov's lemma from the quantum Bruhat graph to the parabolic one; this lemma compares paths between two vertices in the former graph. The results in this paper will be applied in a seco…
Let F be a p-adic field with residue class field k. We investigate the structure of certain mod p universal modules for GL(3,F) over the corresponding Hecke algebras. To this end, we first study the structure of some mod p universal modules for the finite group GL(n,k) as modules over the corresponding Hecke algebras. We then relate this finite case to the p-adic one by using homological coefficient systems on the the affine Bruhat-Tits building of GL(3). Suppose now that k has cardinality p. We prove that the mod p universal module of GL(3,F) relative to the Iwahori subroup is flat and projec…
We define the Iwahori-Hecke algebra for an almost split Kac-Moody group over a local non-archimedean field. We use the hovel associated to this situation, which is the analogue of the Bruhat-Tits building for a reductive group. The fixer K of some chamber in the standard apartment plays the role of the Iwahori subgroup. We can define the Iwahori-Hecke algebra as the algebra of some K-bi-invariant functions on the group with support consisting of a finite union of double classes. As two chambers in the hovel are not always in a same apartment, this support has to be in some large subsemigroup o…
For a connected complex semi-simple Lie group $G$ and a fixed pair $(B, B^-)$ of opposite Borel subgroups of $G$, we determine when the intersection of a conjugacy class $C$ in $G$ and a double coset $BwB^-$ is non-empty, where $w$ is in the Weyl group $W$ of $G$. The question comes from Poisson geometry, and our answer is in terms of the Bruhat order on $W$ and an involution $\mc \in W$ associated to $C$. We study properties of the elements $\mc$. For $G = SL(n+1, \Cset)$, we describe $\mc$ explicitly for every conjugacy class $C$, and for the case when $w \in W$ is an involution, we also giv…
We consider the Iwahori-Hecke algebra associated to an almost split Kac-Moody group $G$ (affine or not) over a nonarchimedean local field $K$. It has a canonical double-coset basis $(T_{\mathbf w})_{\mathbf w\in W^+}$ indexed by a sub-semigroup $W^+$ of the affine Weyl group $W$. The multiplication is given by structure constants $a^ {\mathbf u}_{\mathbf w,\mathbf v}\in N=Z_{\geq0}$ : $T_{\mathbf w}*T_{\mathbf v}=\sum_{\mathbf u\in P_{\mathbf w,\mathbf v}} a^ {\mathbf u}_{\mathbf w,\mathbf v} T_{\mathbf u}$. A conjecture, by Bravermann, Kazhdan, Patnaik, Gaussent and the authors, tells that $a…
Consider an infinite homogeneous tree $T_n$ of valence $n+1$, its group $Aut(T_n)$ of automorphisms, and the group $Hie(T_n)$ of its spheromorphisms (hierarchomorphisms), i.~e., the group of homeomorphisms of the boundary of $T_n$ that locally coincide with transformations defined by automorphisms. We show that the subgroup $Aut(T_n)$ is spherical in $Hie(T_n)$, i.~e., any irreducible unitary representation of $Hie(T_n)$ contains at most one $Aut(T_n)$-fixed vector. We present a combinatorial description of the space of double cosets of $Hie(T_n)$ with respect to $Aut(T_n)$ and construct a 'ne…
Let $G$ be a finite group. Let $H, K$ be subgroups of $G$ and $H \backslash G / K$ the double coset space. Let $Q$ be a probability on $G$ which is constant on conjugacy classes ($Q(s^{-1} t s) = Q(t)$). The random walk driven by $Q$ on $G$ projects to a Markov chain on $H \backslash G /K$. This allows analysis of the lumped chain using the representation theory of $G$. Examples include coagulation-fragmentation processes and natural Markov chains on contingency tables. Our main example projects the random transvections walk on $GL_n(q)$ onto a Markov chain on $S_n$ via the Bruhat decompositio…
Let $(π_{\mathbf{z}},V_{\mathbf{z}})$ be an unramified principal series representation of a reductive group over a nonarchimedean local field, parametrized by an element $\mathbf{z}$ of the maximal torus in the Langlands dual group. If $v$ is an element of the Weyl group $W$, then the standard intertwining integral $\mathcal{A}_v$ maps $V_{\mathbf{z}}$ to $V_{v\mathbf{z}}$. Letting $ψ^{\mathbf{z}}_w$ with $w\in W$ be a suitable basis of the Iwahori fixed vectors in $V_{\mathbf{z}}$, and $\widehatψ^{\mathbf{z}}_w$ a basis of the contragredient representation, we define $σ(u,v,w)$ (for $u,v,w\in…
We derive a formula for the entries in the change-of-basis matrix between Young's seminormal and natural representations of the symmetric group. These entries are determined as sums over weighted paths in the weak Bruhat graph on standard tableaux, and we show that they can be computed recursively as the weighted sum of at most two previously-computed entries in the matrix. We generalize our results to work for affine Hecke algebras, Ariki-Koike algebras, Iwahori-Hecke algebras, and complex reflection groups given by the wreath product of a finite cyclic group with the symmetric group.
Let F be a non Archimedean locally compact field of residue characteristic different from 2, let G be a connected reductive group defined over F, let s be an involutive F-automorphism of G and H an open F-subgroup of the fixed points group of s. We denote by G(F) (resp. H(F)) the group of F-points of G (resp. H). In this paper, we obtain an analogue of the Cartan decomposition for the reductive symmetric space G(F)/H(F). More precisely, we obtain a decomposition of G(F) as a union of H(F)-cosets which is related to the H(F)-conjugacy classes of maximal s-anti-invariant F-split tori in G. When …
Involution words are variations of reduced words for twisted involutions in Coxeter groups. They arise naturally in the study of the Bruhat order, of certain Iwahori-Hecke algebra modules, and of orbit closures in flag varieties. Specifically, to any twisted involutions $x$, $y$ in a Coxeter group $W$ with automorphism $*$, we associate a set of involution words $\hat{\mathcal{R}}_*(x,y)$. This set is the disjoint union of the reduced words of a set of group elements $\mathcal{A}_*(x,y)$, which we call the atoms of $y$ relative to $x$. The atoms, in turn, are contained in a larger set $\mathca…
The action of a Coxeter group $W$ on the set of left cosets of a standard parabolic subgroup deforms to define a module $\mathcal{M}^J$ of the group's Iwahori-Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}$ with a particularly simple form. Rains and Vazirani have introduced the notion of a quasiparabolic set to characterize $W$-sets for which analogous deformations exist; a motivating example is the conjugacy class of fixed point free involutions in the symmetric group. Deodhar has shown that the module $\mathcal{M}^J$ possesses a certain antilinear involution, called the bar operator, and a certain basis invaria…
