Since the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity (SC) in quasi-two-dimensional copper oxides, a few layered compounds, which bear similarities to the cuprates, have also been found to host unconventional SC. Our recent observation of SC at 6.1 K in correlated electron material K2Cr3As3 (J. K. Bao et al., arXiv: 1412.0067) represents an obviously different paradigm, primarily because of its quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) nature. The new material is structurally featured by the (Cr3As3)2- double-walled subnano-tubes composed of face-sharing Cr6/2 (As6/2) octahedron linear chains, which are well separated by columns of K+ counterions. Later, an isostructural superconducting Rb2Cr3As3 was synthesized, thus forming a new superconducting family. Here we report the third member, Cs2Cr3As3, which possesses the largest interchain distance. SC appears below 2.2 K. Similar to the former two sister compounds, Cs2Cr3As3 exhibits a non-Fermi liquid behavior with a linear temperature dependence of resistivity in the normal state, and a high upper critical field beyond the Pauli limit as well, suggesting common unconventional SC in the Q1D Cr-based material.
Switching on interchain coupling in a system of one-dimensional strongly interacting chains often leads to an ordered state. Quite generally, there is a competition between an insulating charge-density-wave and a superconducting state. In the case of repulsive interactions, charge-density wave usually wins over superconductivity. Here, we show that a suitable modulation in the form of a period 4 bond-centered stripe can reverse this balance even in the repulsive case and produce a superconducting state with relatively high temperature.
We report on the result of quantum Monte Carlo simulation of quasi-one-dimensional electron systems at 1/4-filling, considering organic superconductors such as TMTSF- and TMTTF-salts. We focus on the effect of dimensionality (interchain coupling) on superconducting fluctuation. First we consider Hubbard model which includes only on-site repulsion U. We find that the increase of interchain coupling enhances superconducting susceptibility, although it deforms the nested Fermi surface and suppresses the spin susceptibility. Next we consider an extended Hubbard model which includes nearest-neighbo…
The density-matrix renormalization group method is used to study the ground state of the two-chain zigzag-bond Hubbard model at quarter filling. We show that, with a proper choice of the signs of hopping integrals, the ring exchange mechanism yields ferromagnetic spin correlations between interchain neighboring sites, and produces the attractive interaction between electrons as well as the long-range pair correlations in the spin-triplet channel, thereby leading the system to triplet superconductivity. We argue that this novel mechanism may have possible relevance to observed superconductivity…
I apply a two-step renormalization group method to the study of the competition between antiferromagnetism (AFM) and superconductivity in an anisotropic 2D Hubbard model. I show that this simple model captures the essentials of the ground-state phases of the quasi 1D organic conductors. As found experimentally, the ground-state phase diagram is mostly AFM. The AFM is localized in the strong-coupling limit where the electrons are confined in the chains. It is an SDW in the weak-coupling limit where interchain hopping is present. There is a tiny region in the weak-coupling regime where transvers…
Recently, new Cr-based superconductors, A$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$ (A = K, Rb, Cs), have gained a strong interest because of their one-dimensional crystal structures and electron correlations. Here we report the crystal structure and physical properties of two related materials ACr$_3$As$_3$ (A = Rb, Cs) which are synthesized via a soft-chemical A+ deintercalation in A$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$. The new compounds remain one-dimensional (Cr$_3$As$_3$)$_{\infty}$ linear chains, and the interchain distance can be tuned by the incorporation of the alkali-metal cations with different sizes. The physical-property meas…
We report systematical studies of a new quasi-one-dimensional (1D) compound Ba3TiTe5 and the high-pressure induced superconductivity therein. Ba3TiTe5 was synthesized at high pressure and high temperature. It crystallizes into a hexagonal structure (P63/mcm), which consists of infinite face-sharing octahedral TiTe6 chains and Te chains along the c axis, exhibiting a strong 1D characteristic structure. The first-principles calculations demonstrate that Ba3TiTe5 is a well-defined 1D conductor and thus, it can be considered a starting point to explore the exotic physics induced by pressure via en…
Superconductivity with an ultra low Tc $\sim$ 0.5 mK was discovered recently in bismuth, a semimetal. To develop a model and scenario for Bi we begin with a cubic reference lattice, close to A7 (dimerized cubic) structure of Bi. Three valence electrons hop among 6p$_x$, 6p$_y$ and 6p$_z$ orbitals and form \textit{quasi one dimensional chains at half filling}. An interesting interplay follows: i) Mott localization tendency in the chains, ii) metallization by interchain hopping and iii) lattice dimerization by electron-phonon coupling. In our proposal, a potential high Tc superconductivity from …
The nature of the attractive electron-electron interaction, leading to the formation of Cooper-pairs in unconventional superconductors has still to be fully understood and is subject to intensive research. Here we show that the sequence spin-Peierls, antiferromagnetism, superconductivity observed in (TMTTF)_2PF_6 under pressure makes the (TM)_2X phase diagram universal. We argue that the suppression of the spin-Peierls transition under pressure, the close vicinity of antiferromagnetic and superconducting phases at high pressure as well as the existence of critical antiferromagnetic fluctuation…
Following the discovery of superconductivity in quasi-one-dimensional K$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$ containing [(Cr$_3$As$_3$)$^{2-}$]$_{\infty}$ chains [J. K. Bao et al., arXiv: 1412.0067 (2014)], we succeeded in synthesizing an analogous compound, Rb$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$, which also crystallizes in a hexagonal lattice. The replacement of K by Rb results in an expansion of $a$ axis by 3\%, indicating a weaker interchain coupling in Rb$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$. Bulk superconductivity emerges at 4.8 K, above which the normal-state resistivity shows a linear temperature dependence up to 35 K. The estimated upper critical…
We report the temperature dependence of the upper critical magnetic field in the quasi-onedimensional molecular organic superconductor (DMET)2I3, for magnetic field applied along the intrachain, interchain, and interplane directions. The upper critical field tends to saturation at low temperature for field in all directions and does not exceed the Pauli paramagnetic limit. Superconductivity in (DMET)2I3 thus appears to be conventional spin singlet, in contrast to the status of the isostructural Bechgaard salts. We also discuss a magnetic field-induced dimensional crossover effect in the normal…
We review some aspects of the renormalization group method for interacting fermions. Special emphasis is placed on the application of scaling theory to quasi-one-dimensional systems at non zero temperature. We begin by introducing the scaling ansatz for purely one-dimensional fermion systems and its extension when interchain coupling and dimensionality crossovers are present at finite temperature. Next, we review the application of the renormalization group technique to the one-dimensional electron gas model and clarify some peculiarities of the method at the two-loop level. The influence of i…
The band structure of alfa-(Per)2M(mnt)2, leads to a description of these materials as nearly perfectly one dimensional conductors. The conduction is mainly along the stacking direction of the partially oxidized perylene molecules, (Per)1/2+, with virtually no interchain bandwidth. However, recent high magnetic field experiments suggest orbital coupling of the magnetic field to the electronic structure, indicating a finite interchain bandwidth. The details of the band structure and the possible variances, at low energies, from a perfect one dimensional system are examined. In particular, multi…
We investigate the competition between antiferromagnetism and triplet superconductivity in quasi one-dimensional electron systems. We show that the two order parameters can be unified using a SO(4) symmetry and demonstrate the existence of such symmetry in one dimensional Luttinger liquids of interacting electrons. We argue that approximate SO(4) symmetry remains valid even when interchain hopping is strong enough to turn the system into a strongly anisotropic Fermi liquid. For unitary triplet superconductors SO(4) symmetry requires a first order transition between antiferromagnetic and superc…
We provide a quasi-one-dimensional model which can support a pair-density-wave (PDW) state, in which the superconducting (SC) order parameter modulates periodically in space, with gapless Bogoliubov quasiparticle excitations. The model consists of an array of strongly-interacting one-dimensional systems, where the one-dimensional systems are coupled to each other by local interactions and tunneling of the electrons and Cooper pairs between them. Within the interchain mean-field theory, we find several SC states from the model, including a conventional uniform SC state, PDW SC state, and a coex…
Here we report the discovery of the first ternary molybdenum pnictide based superconductor K2Mo3As3. Polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals a quasi-one-dimensional hexagonal crystal structure with (Mo3As3)2- linear chains separated by K+ ions, similar as previously reported K2Cr3As3, with the space group of P-6m2 (No. 187) and the refined lattice parameters a = 10.145(5) Å and c = 4.453(8) Å. Electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements exhibit bulk superconductivity with th…
Using the N-patch renormalization group method we investigate the flow of the quasiparticle weight in one-dimensional, weakly two-dimensional and fully two-dimensional Hubbard models. In one dimension we reproduce the Luttinger exponent that describes the disappearance of the quasiparticle peak towards lower scales. Further we analyze effects of the band structure, interchain hopping and the flow of the interactions in quasi-one-dimensional models. For the two-dimensional case we study how the suppression of the quasiparticle weight affects the flow to strong coupling. We find that the flow to…
Recently a new family of Cr-based A2Cr3As3 (A = K, Rb, Cs) superconductors were reported, which own a rare quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) crystal structure with infinite (Cr3As3)2- chains and exhibit intriguing superconducting characteristics possibly derived from spin-triplet electron pairing. The crystal structure of A2Cr3As3 is actually a slight variation of the hexagonal TlFe3Te3 prototype although they have different lattice symmetry. Here we report superconductivity in a 133-type KCr3As3 compound that belongs to the latter structure. The single crystals of KCr3As3 were prepared by the deint…
In order to clarify whether the odd-frequency superconductivity can be realized or not, we study a quasi-one-dimensional triangular lattice in the Hubbard model using the random phase approximation (RPA) and the fluctuation exchange (FLEX) approximation. We find that odd-frequency spin-singlet p-wave pairing can be enhanced on a quasi-one-dimensional isosceles triangular lattice.
We review the current understanding of superconductivity in the quasi-one-dimensional organic conductors of the Bechgaard and Fabre salt families. We discuss the interplay between superconductivity, antiferromagnetism, and charge-density-wave fluctuations. The connection to recent experimental observations supporting unconventional pairing and the possibility of a triplet-spin order parameter for the superconducting phase is also presented.
We report on results of theoretical study of non-uniform superconducting states in quasi-one-dimensional systems, with attractive interactions and Zeeman splitting between electron spins. Using bosonization to treat intrachain electron-electron interactions, and a combination of renormalization group and mean-field approximation to tackle interchain couplings, we obtain the phase diagram of the system, and show that the transition between the uniform and non-uniform superconducting phases is a continuous transition of the commensurate-incommensurate type.
This survey provides a brief account for the start of organic superconductivity motivated by the quest for high Tc superconductors and its development since the eighties'. Besides superconductivity found in 1D organics in 1980, progresses in this field of research have contributed to better understand the physics of low dimensional conductors highlighted by the wealth of new remarkable properties. Correlations conspire to govern the low temperature properties of the metallic phase. The contribution of antiferromagnetic fluctuations to the interchain Cooper pairing proposed by the theory is bor…
Response functions for spin-density-wave (SDW) and d-wave singlet superconductivity ($d$SC) in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) electron systems are calculated by a renormalization group technique. It is shown that the response functions for both SDW, $χ_\rs$, and $d$SC, $χ_d$, are enhanced by interchain hopping, $t_\perp$, i.e., by quasi-one dimensionality. When the Fermi surface deviates from perfect nesting, $χ_\rs$ saturates below the energy scale of imperfectness of the nesting, while $χ_d$ is hardly affected. Consequently, the superconducting correlation increases even away from the SDW phase…
I present results from an extended Migdal-Eliashberg theory of electron-phonon interactions and superconductivity. The history of the electron-phonon problem is introduced, and then study of the intermediate parameter regime is justified from the energy scales in the cuprate superconductors. The Holstein model is detailed, and limiting cases are examined to demonstrate the need for an extended theory of superconductivity. Results of the extended approximation are shown, including spectral functions and phase diagrams. These are discussed with reference to Hohenberg's theorem, the Bardeen-Coope…
We introduce and analyze a variational wave function for quasi two-dimensional kappa-ET organic salts containing strong local and nonlocal correlation effects. We find an unconventional superconducting ground state for intermediate charge carrier interaction, sandwiched between a conventional metal at weak coupling and a spin liquid at larger coupling. Most remarkably, the excitation spectrum is dramatically renormalized and is found to be the driving force for the formation of the unusual superconducting state.
The quasi-one-dimensional material PdTeI exhibits unusual electronic transport properties at ambient pressure. Here, we systematically investigate both the structural and electronic responses of PdTeI to external pressure, through a combination of electrical transport, synchrotron x-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy measurements. The charge density wave (CDW) order in PdTeI is fragile and the transition temperature TCDW decreases rapidly with the application of external pressure. The resistivity hump is indiscernible when the pressure is increased to 1 GPa. Upon further compression…
We consider a system with electron-phonon interaction, antiferromagnetic fluctuations and disconnected open Fermi surfaces. The existence of odd-parity superconductivity in this circumstance is shown for the first time. If it is applied to the quasi-one-dimensional systems like the organic conductors (TMTSF)_2X we obtain spin-triplet superconductivity with nodeless gap. Our result is also valid in higher dimensions(2d and 3d).
A Weyl semimetal with strong electron-phonon interaction can show axionic coupling in its insulator state at low temperatures, owing to the formation of a charge density wave (CDW). Such a CDW emerges in the linear chain compound Weyl semimetal Ta$_2$Se$_8$I below 263 K, resulting in the appearance of the dynamical condensed-matter axion quasiparticle. In this study, we demonstrate that the interchain coupling in Ta$_2$Se$_8$I can be varied to suppress the CDW formation with pressure, while retaining the Weyl semimetal phase at high temperatures. Above 17 GPa, the Weyl semimetal phase does not…
The layered perovskite Ca2RuO4 is a spin-one Mott insulator at ambient pressure and exhibits metallic ferromagnetism at least up to ~ 80 kbar with a maximum Curie temperature of 28 K. Above ~ 90 kbar and up to 140 kbar, the highest pressure reached, the resistivity and ac susceptibility show pronounced downturns below ~ 0.4 K in applied magnetic fields of up to ~10 mT. This indicates that our specimens of Ca2RuO4 are weakly superconducting on the border of a quasi-2D ferromagnetic state.
Is the mechanism of unconventional superconductivity in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ closer in spirit to superfluid $^3$He, or to the cuprates, pnictides, and organic superconductors? We challenge prevailing assumptions in this field and using well-controlled perturbative renormalization group calculations, we suggest that superconductivity in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ resembles more closely the quasi-one dimensional organic superconductors. Our theory has certain phenomenological consequences that are consistent with the experimentally observed phenomena.
High-resolution photoemission has been used to study the electronic structure of the charge density wave (CDW) and superconducting (SC) dichalcogenide, 2H- NbSe2. From the extracted self-energies, important components of the quasiparticle (QP) interactions have been identified. In contrast to previously studied TaSe2, the CDW transition does not affect the electronic properties significantly. The electron-phonon coupling is identified as a dominant contribution to the QP self-energy and is shown to be very anisotropic (k-dependent) and much stronger than in TaSe2.
We propose a mechanism of nodeless d-wave superconductivity in a quasi-one-dimensional organic superconductor under anion order. It is shown that split of the Fermi surfaces due to the anion order eliminates the line nodes of a d-wave gap function on the Fermi surfaces, and a small finite energy gap appears in the quasi-particle excitations of superconductivity. We discuss that temperature dependences of thermal conductivity and NMR relaxation rate observed in a quasi-one-dimensional organic superconductor (TMTSF)2ClO4 can be explained consistently by the small energy gap.
We apply the method of two-point quasiclassical Green's function to geometries where the trajectories include interfering paths and loops. For a system of two superconducting layers separated by partially transparent interface, corrections to the quasiclassical solutions for the Green's function are explicitly found as well as the deviation from the normalization condition.
We study a possible superconductivity in quasiperiodic systems, by portraying the issue within the attractive Hubbard model on a Penrose lattice. Applying a real-space dynamical mean-field theory to the model consisting of 4181 sites, we find a superconducting phase at low temperatures. Reflecting the nonperiodicity of the Penrose lattice, the superconducting state exhibits an inhomogeneity. According to the type of the inhomogeneity, the superconducting phase is categorized into three different regions which cross over each other. Among them, the weak-coupling region exhibits spatially extend…
We theoretically consider the upper critical magnetic field, perpendicular to a conducting axis in a triplet quasi-one-dimensional superconductor. In particular, we demonstrate that, at high magnetic fields, the orbital effects against superconductivity in a magnetic field are reversible and, therefore, superconductivity can restore. It is important that the above mentioned quantum limit can be achieved in presumably triplet quasi-one-dimensional superconductor Li$_{0.9}$Mo$_6$O$_{17}$ [J.-F. Mercure et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 108}, 187003 (2012)] at laboratory available pulsed magnetic fie…
We clarify the new concept of gravitationally dressed Fermi liquids we have proposed to describe the normal state of high Tc superconductors. In this note we distinguish between weakly gravitationally dressed Fermi liquids which fall in the class of the canonical Fermi liquid theory (with quasiparticle excitations), and strongly gravitationally dressed Fermi liquids (with quasiunparticle excitations) which represent the high dimensional generalization of Luttinger liquids, with specific features. Such weakly or strongly gravitationally dressed Fermi liquids lead naturally to the previously pro…
On the basis of spin and pairing fluctuation-exchange approximation, we study the superconductivity in quasi-two-dimensional Hubbard model. The integral equations for the Green's function are self-consistently solved by numerical calculation. Solutions for the order parameter, London penetration depth, density of states, and transition temperature are obtained. Some of the results are compared with the experiments for the cuprate high-temperature superconductors. Numerical techniques are presented in details. With these techniques, the amount of numerical computation can be greatly reduced.
We propose realization of non-Abelian topological superconductivity in two-dimensional quasicrystals by the same mechanism as in crystalline counterparts. Specifically, we study a two-dimensional electron gas in Penrose and Ammann-Beenker quasicrystals with Rashba spin-orbit coupling, perpendicular Zeeman magnetic field, and conventional $s$-wave superconductivity. We find that topological superconductivity with broken time-reversal symmetry is realized in both Penrose and Ammann-Beenker quasicrystals at low filling, where the Bott index is unity. The topological nature of this phase is confir…
A time-reversal invariant topological superconductivity is suggested to be realized in a quasi-one dimensional structure on a plane, which is fabricated by filling the superconducting materials into the periodic channel of dielectric matrices like zeolite and asbestos under high pressure. The topological superconducting phase sets up in the presence of large spin-orbit interactions when intra-wire s-wave and inter-wire d-wave pairings take place. Kramers pairs of Majorana bound states emerge at the edges of each wire. We analyze effects of Zeeman magnetic field on Majorana zero-energy states. …
The intercalated iron selenide (Li,Fe)OHFeSe has a strongly layered structure analogous to the quasi two-dimensional (2D) bismuth cuprate superconductors, and exhibits both high-temperature (Tc) and topological superconductivity. However, the issue of its superconductivity dimensionality has not yet been fully investigated so far. Here we report that the quasi-2D superconductivity features, including the high anisotropy γ = 151 and the associated quasi-2D vortices, are also revealed for (Li,Fe)OHFeSe, based on systematic experiments of the electrical transport and magnetization and model fitti…
We derive integral equation for superconducting gap, which takes into account the quantum nature of electron motion in a parallel magnetic field in a quasi-two-dimensional (Q2D) superconductor in the presence of a non-zero perpendicular field component. By comparison of our theoretical results with the recent experimental data obtained on the NbS$_2$, we show that the orbital effect against superconductivity partially destroys superconductivity in the so-called Ginzburg-Landau area of this Q2D conductor, as expected. Nevertheless, at relatively high magnetic fields, $H \simeq 15 \ T$, the orbi…
The upper critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ of the tight-binding electrons in the three-dimensional lattice is investigated. The electrons make Cooper pairs between the eigenstates with the same energy in the strong magnetic field. The transition lines in the quasi-one dimensional case are shown to deviate from the previously obtained results where the hopping matrix elements along the magnetic field are neglected. In the absence of the Pauli pair breaking the transition temperature $T_c(H)$ of the quasi-two dimensional electrons is obtained to oscillationally increase as the magnetic field becomes l…
The electronic structure of the high-Tc cuprates is studied in terms of "large-U" and "small-U" orbitals. A striped structure and three types of quasiparticles are obtained, polaron-like "stripons" carrying charge, "svivons" carrying spin, and "quasielectrons" carrying both. The anomalous properties are explained, and specifically the behavior of the resistivity, Hall constant, and thermoelectric power. High-temperature superconductivity results from transitions between pair states of quasielectrons and stripons.
The demonstration of a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) and superconducting properties in LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ heterostructures has stimulated intense research activity in recent ten years. The 2DEG has unique properties that are promising for applications in all-oxide electronic devices. The superconductivity in such heterostructures has been observed below 300 mK. For superconductivity applications it is desirable to have more wide temperature of the existence range and the ability to control superconductivity properties by external stimulus. Based on first-principles calculations an…
We revisit the pairing symmetry competition in quasi-one-dimensional systems. We show that spin-triplet s-wave pairing, where the pair is formed by electrons with different times and has an odd-frequency symmetry, can be realized in systems with strong one-dimensionality when the strength of charge fluctuation dominates over spin fluctuation. The present study provides a novel microscopic mechanism for this exotic pairing originally proposed by Berezinskii in 1974.
The recent discovery of superconductivity in heavy Fermion compound UTe2, a candidate topological and triplet-paired superconductor, has aroused widespread interest. However, to date, there is no consensus on whether the stoichiometric sample of UTe2 is superconducting or not due to lack of reliable evidence to distinguish the difference between the nominal and real compositions of samples. Here, we are the first to clarify that the stoichiometric UT2 is non-superconducting at ambient pressure and under hydrostatic pressure up to 6 GPa, however we find that it can be compressed into supercondu…
We investigate the spin-triplet superconductivity mediated by phonons in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) systems with open Fermi surfaces. We obtain the ground state phase diagrams. It is found that spin-triplet superconductivity occurs for weak screening and strong on-site Coulomb interaction, even in the absence of any additional nonphonon pairing interactions. We find that the nodeless spin-triplet state is more favorable than the spin-triplet state with line nodes, for the parameter values of the Q1D superconductors (TMTSF)_2X. We also find that Q1D open Fermi surface, which is the specific fe…
Superconductivity and topological quantum states are two frontier fields of research in modern condensed matter physics. The realization of superconductivity in topological materials is highly desired, however, superconductivity in such materials is typically limited to two- or three-dimensional materials and is far from being thoroughly investigated. In this work, we boost the electronic properties of the quasi-one-dimensional topological insulator bismuth iodide \b{eta}-Bi4I4 by applying high pressure. Superconductivity is observed in \b{eta}-Bi4I4 for pressures where the temperature depende…
We calculate the number and energy densities of a quasi-2D Bose-Einstein gas constrained within a thin region of infinite extent but of finite width d. The BEC critical transition temperature then becomes an explicit function of d. We use this result to construct a model of high-Tc superconductivity in cuprates with a periodic layered atomic structure. The predicted behavior of the BEC Tc agrees with recent experimental findings in severely underdoped cuprates.
Low-dimensional materials with broken inversion symmetry and strong spin-orbit coupling can give rise to fascinating quantum phases and phase transitions. Here we report coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism below 2.5\,K in the quasi-one dimensional crystals of non-centrosymmetric (TaSe$_4$)$_3$I (space group: $P\bar{4}2_1c$). The unique phase is a direct consequence of inversion symmetry breaking as the same material also stabilizes in a centro-symmetric structure (space group: $P4/mnc$) where it behaves like a non-magnetic insulator. The coexistence here upfront contradicts the…
The intercalated graphite superconductor CaC6 with Tc ~ 11.5 K has been synthesized and characterized with magnetoresistance measurements. Above the transition, the resistivity follows a T^2 dependence up to 50 K, which suggests Fermi liquid behavior. Above 50 K, the data can be fit to the Bloch-Gruneisen model providing a Debye temperature of theta = 263 K. By using McMillan formula, we estimate the electron-phonon coupling constant of lambda = 0.85 which places this material in the intermediate-coupling regime. The upper critical field is determined parallel and perpendicular to the supercon…
We derive a so-called gap equation for superconductivity in a quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) layered conductor in a magnetic field, which is parallel to both its conducting plane and its conducting axis. This equation demonstrates that the orbital destructive effects against superconductivity cannot destroy it, if the perpendicular to the plane coherence length is less than the inter-plane distance. On the basis of our results, we suggest arguments that some triplet superconducting phase was indeed discovered in ultrahigh magnetic fields in the Q1D superconductor Li$_{0.9}$Mo$_6$O$_{17}$ [see Xia…
The paper is devoted to a study of superconducting properties of population-imbalanced fermionic mixtures in quasi-one dimensional optical lattices. The system can be effectively described by the attractive Hubbard model with the Zeeman magnetic field term. We investigated the ground state phase diagram of the model as a function of the chemical potential and the magnetic field. The ground state of the system exhibits the conventional BCS-type superconductivity as well as the unconventional so-called Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state, in which the total momentum of Cooper pairs is non-zer…
The method of two-point quasiclassical Green's function is reviewed and its applicability for description of multiple reflections/transmissions in layered structures is discussed. The Green's function of a sandwich built of superconducting layers with a semi-transparent interface is found with the help of recently suggested quasiclassical method [A. Shelankov, and M. Ozana, Phys. Rev. B 61, 7077 (2000)], as well as exactly, from the Gor'kov equation. By the comparison of the results of the two approaches, the validity of the quasiclassical method for the description of real (non-integrable) sy…
To establish the mechanism of unconventional superconductivity in Sr$_2$RUO$_4$, a prerequisite is direct information concerning the momentum-space structure of the energy gaps $Δ_i(k)$, and in particular whether the pairing strength is stronger ("dominant") on the quasi-1D ($α$ and $β$) or on the quasi-2D ($γ$) Fermi surfaces. We present scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements of the density-of-states spectra in the superconducting state of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ for $0.1 T_C<T<T_C$, and analyze them, along with published thermodynamic data, using a simple phenomenological model. We show that…
