We use transport and magnetization measurements to study the effect of Cr-doping to the phase diagram of the electron-doped superconducting BaFe2-xNixAs2 iron pnictides. In principle, adding Cr to electron-doped BaFe2-xNixAs2 should be equivalent to the effect of hole-doping. However, we find that Cr doping suppresses superconductivity via impurity effect, while not affecting the normal state resistivity above 100 K. We establish the phase diagram of Cr-doped BaFe2-x-yNixCryAs2 iron pnictides, and demonstrate that Cr-doping near optimal superconductivity restore the long-range antiferromagnetic order suppressed by superconductivity.
We present the planar 63Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation study of impurity-doped YBa2(Cu1-xMx)4O8 (M=Ni, Zn) at T=4.2-300 K with Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spin-echo technique. In the light of an impurity-induced NQR relaxation theory, we estimated the host Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time (T1)HOST, the impurity-induced Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time (t1), and the wipeout region around the impurity in the superconducting state. The pseudo spin-gap behavior of the host Cu antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation above Tc is not readily removed by a small amount of the imp…
We study the interplay of quantum impurity, and collective spinon and holon dynamics in Zn doped high-T$_c$ cuprates in the normal state. The two-dimensional t-t$^{\prime}$-J models with one and a small amount of Zn impurity are investigated within a numerical method based on the double-time Green function theory. We study the inhomogeneities of holon density and antiferromagnetic correlation background in cases with different Zn concentrations, and obtain that doped holes tend to assemble around the Zn impurity with their mobility being reduced. Therefore a bound state of holon is formed arou…
We studied low-frequency spin dynamics near the impurity-induced superconductor-to-insulator transition for underdoped high-Tc superconductor YBa2(Cu1-xMx)4O8 (M=Ni, Zn) using the Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spin-echo technique. We observed remarkable suppression of the normal-state pseudo spin-gap and a loss of Cu NQR spectrum intensity at low temperatures around the critical impurity concentration.
In a recent X-ray absorption study in boron doped diamond, Nakamura et al. have seen a well isolated narrow boron impurity band in non-superconducting samples and an additional narrow band at the chemical potential in a superconducting sample. We interpret the beautiful spectra as evidence for upper Hubbard band of a Mott insulating impurity band and an additional metallic `mid-gap band' of a conducting `self-doped' Mott insulator. This supports the basic framework of a recent theory of the present author of strongly correlated impurity band superconductivity (SCIBS) in a template of a wide-ga…
With the aim at understanding the non-monotonic $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave gap, we analyze the local electronic structure near impurities in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors. We find that the local density of states near a non-magnetic impurity in the scenario of $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave superconductivity with higher harmonics is qualitatively different from that obtained from the $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave superconductivity coexisting with antiferromagnetic spin density wave order. We propose that spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy measurements can distinguish the two scenarios and …
In this editorial, we first give a brief survey of the field of iron-selenide superconductivity, both in the case of bulk FeSe characterized by the co-existence of superconductivity and nematic order, and in the case of electron-doped FeSe characterized by high-temperature superconductivity. We next review the 8 contributions to the Frontiers in Physics research topic "High-Tc Superconductivity in Electron-Doped Iron Selenide and Related Compounds".
In conventional superconductors, magnetic interactions and magnetic impurity atoms are destructive to superconductivity. By contrast, in some unconventional systems, e.g. superfluid 3He and superconducting UGe2, superconductivity or superfluidity is actually mediated by magnetic interactions. A magnetic mechanism has also been proposed for high temperature superconductivity (HTSC) in which an electron magnetically polarizes its environment resulting in an attractive pairing-interaction for oppositely polarized spins. Since a magnetic impurity atom would apparently not disrupt such a pairing-in…
Two scenarios, i.e., the anisotropic s-wave pairing (the s-wave scenario) and the d-wave pairing coexisting with antiferromagnetism (the coexisting scenario) have been introduced to understand some of seemingly s-wave like behaviors in electron doped cuprates. We considered the electronic structure in the presence of a nonmagnetic impurity in the coexistence scenario. We found that even if the AF order opens a full gap in quasi-particle excitation spectra, the mid-gap resonant peaks in local density of states (LDoS) around an impurity can still be observed in the presence of a d-wave pairing g…
We consider a strongly correlated ladder with diagonal hopping and exchange interactions described by $t-J$ type hamiltonian. We study the dynamics of a single hole in this model in the presence of a static non-magnetic (or magnetic) impurity. In the case of a non-magnetic (NM) impurity we solve the problem analytically both in the triplet (S=1) and singlet (S=0) sectors. In the triplet sector the hole doesn't form any bound state with the impurity. However, in the singlet sector the hole forms bound states of different symmetries with increasing $J/t$ values. Binding energies of those impurit…
Within the t-t'-J model, the charge asymmetry in superconductivity of hole- and electron-doped cuprates is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that superconductivity appears over a narrow range of doping in electron-doped cuprates, and the superconducting transition temperature displays the same kind of the doping controlled behavior that is observed in the hole-doped case. However, the maximum achievable superconducting transition temperature in the optimal doping in electron-doped cuprates is much lower than that of the hole-doped case due to the…
Superconductivity in an uncompensated boron doped diamond, a very recent observation, is strikingly close to an earlier observation of Anderson-Mott insulator to metal transition, prompting us to suggest an electron correlation driven superconductivity in an impurity band. Random coulomb potential remove a three fold orbital degeneracy of boron acceptor states, resulting in an effective single, narrow, tight binding and half filled band of holes. Singlet coupling between spins of neighboring neutral acceptors $B^0-B^0$ is the seed of pairing. Across the insulator to metal transition, a small a…
Polarized XAFS measurements on powder of LaSrCuO with aligned c-axes find that apical oxygens neighboring only the Sr dopants have a double-site distribution. This result requires that the doped holes reside in impurity states peaked on the CuO6 octahedron neighboring the dopant (denoted as Sr-octahedrons). A model of the double site is presented of two co-existing spin differentiated (singlet and triplet) Jahn-Teller (JT) distortions of the Sr-octahedrons induced by an extrinsic doped hole pairing with the intrinsic hole. It is speculated that Bose-condensation of the singlet pairs, bound by …
We observed a drastic Tc suppression caused by no more than 3 at.% of Zn doped to the optimized superconductor LaFeAsO0.85 (Tc = 26 K). The electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements suggested that it is likely due to impurity scatterings rather than losing the metallic nature, seeming to support the s+/- pairing model proposed for the Fe pnictide superconductor.
Experiments show evidence for stripe formation in the underdoped cuprates. Here we discuss recent numerical calculations on the t-J model which tell us about the mechanism responsible for stripe formation and the relationship between stripes and superconductivity.
We present experimental data obtained by different techniques. Some of them are not easy to explain by any theoretical model presented in the literature. However, a MCS model of the superconductivity in hole-doped cuprates, proposed in our previous work, is capable to explain them. Thus, we present an evidence in favor of the MCS model.
We analyze effective Hamiltonian of ferromagnetic half metal phase of doped manganites and find a latent d-wave spin triplet superconductivity. Spin triplet state for a d-wave pair is enabled by orbital degrees of freedom. This high Tc superconductivity is, however, kept dormant by some intrinsic strong cooper pair breaking processes. Low T anomalies such as i) long distance superconducting proximity effects into manganites, ii) pseudogaps in tunneling, ARPES and iii) nodal quasi particles and absence of bilayer splitting in ARPES in bilayer manganite get natural and qualitative explanation. S…
In a recent letter, Chatterjee et al. (Nature Phys. 4, 108 (2008)) reported tunnelling data obtained below and above the critical temperature (Tc = 15 K) by STM in overdoped Bi2-yPbySr2CuO6+x (Bi2201) and some interpretations of the data1. The main experimental findings of their work are observations of native-impurity resonances which coexist spatially with the superconducting (SC) gap below Tc and survive unchanged on warming through Tc. No doubts, the data in the letter are an important piece of information for assembling the high-Tc SC jigsaw puzzle; however, there are inaccuracies in the …
We present magnetotransport evidence for antiferromagnetism in films of the electron-doped cuprates Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$. Our results show clear signature of static antiferromagnetism up to optimal doping x=0.15, with a quantum phase transition close to x=0.16, and a coexistence of static antiferromagnetism and superconductivity for 0.12$\le$x$\le$0.15.
Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the pressure on superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is studied. It is shown that the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprate superconductors increases with increasing pressure in the underpressure regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal pressure, then decreases in the overpressure regime. This domed shape of the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature is similar to that of the pressure dependence of the longitudinal part of the superconducting g…
We study the influence of inelastic rare-earth impurity scattering on electron-phonon mediated superconductivity and mass renormalization in (La$_{1-x}$Pr$_{x}$)Os$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ compounds. Solving the strong coupling Eliashberg equations we find that the dominant quadrupolar component of the inelastic scattering on Pr impurities yields an enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature T$_c$ in LaOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ and increases monotonically as a function of Pr concentration. The calculated results are in good agreement with the experimentally observed T$_c (x)$ dependence. Our anal…
We use Ni and Zn impurities doped into Bi2212 to test the MS (Magnetic polaron - Spinon) model proposed earlier. We present electron-tunneling spectroscopy of pure, Ni- and Zn-doped Bi2212 single crystals below Tc using a break-junction technique. We show that the magnetic (Ni) and nonmagnetic (Zn) impurities doped into CuO2 planes affect both Tc and the density of states in Bi2212 but do it differently. In order to explain the data, we had to modify the MS model. Thus, we present a Magnetic Coupling of Stripes (MCS) model. In the MCS model, there is only one superconductivity - a spinon super…
In this review, we present a comprehensive overview of superconductivity in electron-doped metal nitride halides $M$N$X$ ($M$ = Ti, Zr, Hf; $X$ = Cl, Br, I) with layered crystal structure and two-dimensional electronic states. The parent compounds are band insulators with no discernible long-range ordered state. Upon doping tiny amount of electrons, superconductivity emerges with several anomalous features beyond the conventional electron-phonon mechanism, which stimulate theoretical investigations. We will discuss experimental and theoretical results reported thus far and compare the electron…
We analyze the density of state (DOS) and a non-magnetic impurity effect in electron-doped cuprates starting from two different scenarios: the $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave superconductivity coexisting with antiferromagnetic spin density wave (SDW) order versus $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave superconductivity with a higher harmonic. We find that in both cases the local density of state (LDOS) exhibits two impurity-induced resonance states at low energies. We also find that for the intermediate value of the SDW gap, the DOS looks similar to that obtained from the scenario of the $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave gap wit…
Transverse-field muon spin relaxation measurements have been carried out on the heavy-fermion superconductor UPt3 doped with small amounts of Pd. We find that the critical Pd concentration for the emergence of the large-moment antiferromagnetic phase is ~0.6 at.%Pd. At the same Pd content, superconductivity is completely suppressed. The existence of a magnetic quantum critical point in the phase diagram, which coincides with the critical point for superconductivity, provides evidence for ferromagnetic spin-fluctuation mediated odd-parity superconductivity, which competes with antiferromagnetic…
The effect of non-magnetic Zn impurity on superconductivity in LaFe$_{1-y}$Zn$_y$AsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$ system is studied systematically. In the presence of Zn impurity, the superconducting transition temperature increases in the under-doped regime, remains unchanged in the optimally doped regime, and is severely suppressed in the over-doped regime. Our results suggest a switch of the symmetry of the superconducting order parameters from a $s$-wave to $s_{\pm}$ or $d$-wave states as the charge carrier doping increases in FeAs-based superconductors.
Effects of the magnetic impurity Ni on the Cu-spin dynamics and superconductivity have been studied in La_2-x_Sr_x_Cu_1-y_Ni_y_O_4_ with x = 0.13 changing y finely up to 0.10. Compared with the case of the nonmagnetic impurity Zn, it has been found from the muon-spin-relaxation measurements that a large amount of Ni is required to stabilize a magnetic order of Cu spins. However, the evolution toward the stabilization of the magnetic order with increasing impurity concentration is qualitatively similar to each other. The area of the non-superconducting and slowly fluctuating or static region of…
Following the direct observation of abrupt changes in the superconducting ground state in doped low dimensional antiferromagnets, we have identified a phase transition where superconductivity is optimal. The experiments indicate the presence of a putative quantum critical point associated with the emergence of a glassy state. This mechanism is argued to be an intrinsic property and as such largely independent of material quality and the level of disorder.
A three-orbital model derived from the two-dimensional projection of the $ab$ $initio$ Hamiltonian for alkaline doped fullerene A$_3$C$_{60}$ with A=Cs,Rb,K is studied by a variational Monte Carlo method. We correctly reproduce the experimental isotropic s-wave superconductivity around the $ab$ $initio$ parameters. With narrowing the bandwidth, the transition to an insulator is also reproduced, where orbital symmetry is found to be spontaneously broken with emergence of an excitonic Mott insulator for two orbitals and an antiferromagnetic insulator nearly degenerate with a spin liquid for the …
Starting from the d-wave RVB mean-field theory of Kotliar and Liu, we present a new, long-wavelength/low-energy exact, treatment of gauge fluctuations. The result is a theory of gapless fermion quasiparticles coupled to superconducting phase fluctuations. We will discuss the physical implications, and the similarity/differences with a theory of BCS pairing with phase fluctuations.
LaCuO_2.5 is a system of coupled, two-chain, cuprate ladders which may be doped systematically by Sr substitution. Motivated by the recent synthesis of single crystals, we investigate theoretically the possibility of superconductivity in this compound. We use a model of spin fluctuation-mediated superconductivity, where the pairing potential is strongly peaked at πin the ladder direction. We solve the coupled gap equations on the bonding and antibonding ladder bands to find superconducting solutions across the range of doping, and discuss their relevance to the real material.
Possible superconductivity in recently discovered (Tl,K)Fe$_x$Se$_2$ compounds is studied from the viewpoint of doped Mott insulator. The Mott insulating phase is examined to be preferred in the parent compound at $x=1.5$ due to the presence of Fe vacancies. Partial filling of vacancies at the Fe-sites introduces electron carriers and leads to electron doped superconductivity. By using a two-orbital Hubbard model in the strong coupling limit, we find that the s-wave pairing is more favorable at small Hund's coupling, and d$_{x^2-y^2}$ wave pairing is more favorable at large Hund's coupling.
Ni-substitution effects on the superconductivity and Cu-spin correlation have been investigated in La2-xSrxCu1-yNiyO4 from the electrical resistivity and muon spin relaxation measurements, taking into account the hole trapping by Ni recently suggested. It has been found that the Ni-substitution suppresses the superconductivity, induces the localization of holes and develops the Cu-spin correlation to the same degree as the Zn substitution. These suggest that Ni with a trapped hole tends to give rise to potential scattering of holes in the CuO2 plane to the same degree as Zn, being discussed in…
We consider the screening of an impurity moment in a d-wave superconductor under the influence of a Zeeman magnetic field. Using the Numerical Renormalization Group technique, we investigate the resulting pseudogap Kondo problem, in particular the field-induced crossover behavior in the vicinity of the zero-field boundary quantum phase transition. The impurity spectral function and the resulting changes in the local host density of states are calculated, giving specific predictions for high-field STM measurements on impurity-doped cuprates.
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors, since we have come to believe that the present approach is not convergent at small doping. We will shortly submit an improved theory of the tJJ' model at small J/t in the dilute hole limit. This will be a new submission will go by a different submission number.
Within the t-J ladder model, superconductivity with a modified d-wave symmetry in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is investigated based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the spin-liquid ground-state at the half-filling evolves into the superconducting ground-state upon doping. In analogy to the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature in the planar cuprate superconductors, the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprates increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the …
We report a tunneling study between Pr_2-xCe_xCuO_{4-delta} (PCCO) and Lead as a function of doping, temperature and magnetic field. The temperature dependence of the gap follows the BCS prediction. Our data fits a nonmonotonic d-wave order parameter for the whole doping range studied. From our data we are able to conclude that the electron-doped cuprate PCCO is a weak coupling, BCS, dirty superconductor.
High-transition-temperature superconductivity arises in copper oxides when holes or electrons are doped into the CuO2 planes of their insulating parent compounds. While hole-doping quickly induces metallic behavior and superconductivity in many cuprates, electron-doping alone is insufficient in materials such as R2CuO4 (R is Nd, Pr, La, Ce, etc.), where it is necessary to anneal an as-grown sample in a low-oxygen environment to remove a tiny amount of oxygen in order to induce superconductivity. Here we show that the microscopic process of oxygen reduction repairs Cu deficiencies in the as-gro…
Using functional renormalization group we investigated possible superconductivity in doped Sr$_2$IrO$_4$. In the electron doped case, a $d^*_{x^2-y^2}$-wave superconducting phase is found in a narrow doping region. The pairing is driven by spin fluctuations within the single conduction band. In contrast, for hole doping an $s^*_{\pm}$-wave phase is established, triggered by spin fluctuations within and across the two conduction bands. In all cases there are comparable singlet and triplet components in the pairing function. The Hund's rule coupling reduces (enhances) superconductivity for elect…
We have studied the charge dynamics of Sr-doped La2CuO4 at hole concentration p =0.07. We observed a clear indication of the competition between two new characteristic collective modes of the Wigner lattice orders suggested earlier: one corresponds to a Tc =15 K superconductivity and the other to Tc =30 K. Our results naturally explain the recent observation of metallic transport in extremely low (1%) Sr-doped La2CuO4 and establish a novel insulator to metal transition mechanismand superconductivity in the two-dimensional Wigner lattice ground state. We suggest that the fluctuations of the rel…
We investigate the interplay between lattice-symmetry breaking and superconducting order in a two-dimensional model of doped antiferromagnets, with long-range Coulomb interactions and Sp(2N) spin symmetry, in the large-N limit. Our results motivate the outline of a global phase diagram for the cuprate superconductors. We describe the quantum transitions between the phases, the evolution of their fermion excitation spectrum, and the experimental implications.
The recent observation of fully-gapped superconductivity in Yb doped CeCoIn5 poses a paradox, for the disappearance of nodes suggests that they are accidental, yet d-wave symmetry with protected nodes is we ll established by experiment. Here, we show that composite pairing provides a natural resolution: in this scenario, Yb doping drives a Lifshitz transition of the nodal Fermi surface, forming a fully-gapped d-wave molecular superfluid of composite pairs. The T4 dependence of the penetration depth associated with the sound mode of this condensate is in accord with observation.
We investigate the formation of non-equilibrium superconducting states in driven alkali-doped fullerides A$_3$C$_{60}$. Within a minimal three-orbital model for the superconductivity of these materials, it was recently demonstrated theoretically that an orbital-dependent imbalance of the interactions leads to an enhancement of superconductivity at equilibrium [M. Kim et al. Phys. Rev. B 94, 155152 (2016)]. We investigate the dynamical response to a time periodic modulation of this interaction imbalance, and show that it leads to the formation of a transient superconducting state which survives…
Applying a variational Monte Carlo method to a two-dimensional t-J model, we study the nonmonotonic d_{x^2-y^2}-wave superconductivity, observed by Raman scattering and ARPES experiments in the electron-doped cuprates. As a gap function in the trial state, we extend the d-wave form (ext.d) so as to have its maxima located near the hot spots of the system. It is found that, in contrast to the hole-doped case, the ext.d wave is always more stable than the simple d wave in the electron-doped case, and the magnetic correlation of the wave vector (π,π) as well as the pair correlation is enhanced. T…
The effects of a single non-magnetic impurity on superconducting states in the Penson-Kolb-Hubbard model have been analyzed. The investigations have been performed within two steps: (i) the homogeneous system is analysed using the Bogoliubov transformation, whereas (ii) the inhomogeneous system is investigated self-consistent Bogoliubova-de Gennes equations (by exact diagonalization and the kernel polynomial method). We analysed both signs of pair hopping, which correspond to s-wave and $η$-wave superconductivity. Our results show that an enhancement of the local superconducting gap at the imp…
We study the interplay between superconductivity and spin density wave order in graphene doped to 3/8 or 5/8 filling (a Van Hove doping). At this doping level, the system is known to exhibit weak coupling instabilities to both chiral d + id superconductivity and to a uniaxial spin density wave. Right at van Hove doping, the superconducting instability is strongest and emerges at the highest Tc, but slightly away from van-Hove doping a spin-density-wave likely emerges first. We investigate whether at some lower temperature superconductivity and spin-density-waves co-exist. We derive the Landau-…
The disclosure of spinon superconductivity and superconductivity mediated by spin-waves in hole-doped Bi2212 cuprate raises the question about the origin of the superconductivity in other cuprates and specially in an electron-doped NCCO cuprate.

We show that, at weak to intermediate coupling, antiferromagnetic fluctuations enhance d-wave pairing correlations until, as one moves closer to half-filling, the antiferromagnetically-induced pseudogap begins to suppress the tendency to superconductivity. The accuracy of our approach is gauged by detailed comparisons with Quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The negative pressure dependence of Tc and the existence of photoemission hot spots in electron-doped cuprate superconductors find their natural explanation within this approach.
We investigate the occurrence of a two-step spin-flop transition and spin reorientation when a longitudinal magnetic field is applied to lightly hole-doped La(2)CuO(4). We find that for large and strongly frustrating impurities, such as Sr in La(2-x)Sr(x)CuO(4), the huge enhancement of the longitudinal susceptibility suppresses the intermediate flop and the reorientation of spins is smooth and continuous. Contrary, for small and weakly frustrating impurities, such as O in La(2)CuO(4+y), a discontinuous spin reorientation (two-step spin-flop transition) takes place. Furthermore, we show that fo…
The electron-doped cuprates were studied by electronic Raman spectroscopy across the entire region of the superconducting (SC) phase diagram. We determined that the magnitude of the SC order parameter varies between 4.6 and 3.5 k_BT_c, consistent with weak coupling BCS theory. Using a ``Raman conductivity" sum rule, we found that doped carriers divide into coherent quasi-particles (QPs) and carriers that remain incoherent. The coherent QPs mainly reside in the vicinity of (pi/2a, pi/2a) regions of the Brillouin zone. The carriers doped beyond optimal doping remain incoherent. Only coherent QPs…
Zero-field muon-spin-relaxation measurements have been carried out in order to investigate the Zn- and Ni-substitution effects on the Cu-spin dynamics in the electron-doped Pr_0.86_LaCe_0.14_Cu_1-y_(Zn, Ni)_y_O_4+\alpa-δ_ with y = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05 and different values of the reduced oxygen content δ(δ\le 0.09). For the samples with y = 0 and very small δvalues of δ< 0.01, a muon-spin precession due to the formation of a long-range antiferromagnetic order has been observed at low temperatures below \~ 5 K. For the moderately oxygen-reduced samples of 0.01 \le δ\le 0.09, on the contrary, no m…
Intrinsic and symmetry protected topological states have attracted lots of interest in condensed matter physics recently. In particular, time reversal symmetry protected fermion topological insulators have been theoretically predicted and experimentally verified. However despite considerable experimental and theoretical works, definitive evidence for time reversal invariant topological superconductivity is still lacking. Here we propose that upon electron doping the hydrogenated single bilayer Bi, namely BiH, will exhibit time reversal invariant topological superconductivity. If confirmed expe…
We analyze the anomalies of superconducting state (both s- and d-wave pairing) in the model of the pseudogap state induced by Heisenberg spin fluctuations of antiferromagnetic short-range order, and based on the scenario of strong scattering near the "hot spots" on the Fermi surface. We present microscopic derivation of Ginzburg-Landau expansion, taking into account all Feynman graphs of perturbation theory for electron interaction with fluctuations of short-range order and in the "ladder" approximation for electron scattering by normal (nonmagnetic) impurities. We determine the dependence of …
We propose a class of wave functions that provide a unified description of antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity in (doped) Mott insulators. The wave function has a Jastrow form and prohibits double occupancies. In the absence of holes, the wave function describes antiferromagnetism accurately. Off diagonal long range order develops at finite doping and the superconducting order parameter has d-wave symmetry. We also show how nodal quasiparticles and neutral spin excitations can be constructed from this wave function.
We study the electronic instabilities of doped bilayer silicene using the random phase approximation. In contrast to the singlet $d+id'$ superconductivity at the low doping region, we find that the system is an itinerant ferromagnet in the narrow doping regions around the Van Hove singularities, and a triplet $p+ip'$ superconductor in the vicinity of these regions. Adding a weak Kane-Mele spin-orbit coupling to the system further singles out the time-reversal invariant equal-spin helical $p+ip'$ pairing as the leading instability. The triplet pairing identified here is driven by the ferromagne…
I describe the issues of the competing orders in normal state of a parent and Ni-doped iron pnictide superconductor, SrF e 2 As 2 , using LMTO band structure calculation plus multi orbital dynamical mean-field theory. Strong, electronic correlations along with minimal antiferromagnetic instability create a partially gapped Fermi surface, in qualitative agreement with earlier experiments. A good semiquantitative similarity in both normal and ordered state with the earlier experimental transport data is observed along with suppression of magnetic ordering and explained within a correlated, mul- …
Using a dynamical cluster quantum Monte Carlo approximation, we investigate the effect of local disorder on the stability of d-wave superconductivity including the effect of electronic correlations in both particle-particle and particle-hole channels. With increasing impurity potential, we find an initial rise of the critical temperature due to an enhancement of anti-ferromagnetic spin correlations, followed by a decrease of Tc due to scattering from impurity-induced moments and ordinary pairbreaking. We discuss the weak initial dependence of Tc on impurity concentration found in comparison to…
A mechanism of d_{x^2-y^2}-wave superconductivity is proposed for the high-T_c cuprates based on a spin texture with non-zero topological density induced by doped holes through Zhang-Rice singlet formation. The pairing interaction arises from the magnetic Lorentz force like interaction between the holes and the spin textures. The stability of the pairing state against the vortex-vortex interaction and the Coulomb repulsion is examined. The mechanism suggests appearance of a p-wave pairing component by introducing anisotropy in the CuO_2 plane.
We report on the temperature dependence of the impurity-induced resonant state in Zn-doped Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O$_{8+δ}$ by scanning tunneling spectroscopy at 30 mK < T < 52 K. It is known that a Zn impurity induces a sharp resonant peak in tunnel spectrum at an energy close to the Fermi level. We observed that the resonant peak survives up to 52 K. The peak broadens with increasing temperature, which is explained by the thermal effect. This result provides information to understand the origin of the resonant peak.
The quasiparticle states around a nonmagnetic impurity in electron-doped iron-based superconductors with spin-density-wave (SDW) order are investigated as a function of doping and impurity scattering strength. In the undoped sample, where a pure SDW state exists, two impurity-induced resonance peaks are observed around the impurity site and they are shifted to higher (lower) energies as the strength of the positive (negative) scattering potential (SP) is increased. For the doped samples where the SDW order and the superconducting order coexist, the main feature is the existence of sharp in-gap…
