In this paper consensus in second-order multi-agent systems with a non-periodic sampled-data exchange among agents is investigated. The sampling is random with bounded inter-sampling intervals. It is assumed that each agent has exact knowledge of its own state at any time instant. The considered local interaction rule is PD-type. Sufficient conditions for stability of the consensus protocol to a time-invariant value are derived based on LMIs. Such conditions only require the knowledge of the connectivity of the graph modeling the network topology. Numerical simulations are presented to corroborate the theoretical results.
In this paper, we investigate consensus control of fractional-order multi-agent systems with order in (0,1) via sampled-data control. A new scheme to design distributed controllers with rigorous analysis is presented by utilizing the unique properties of fractional-order calculus, namely hereditary and infinite memory. It is established that global boundedness of all closed-loop signals is ensured and asymptotic consensus is realized. Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method and verify the obtained results.
In this article, we update the reference [14] in two aspects. First, we note that in order for the control law (12) in [14] to be equivalent to the control law (3) in [14], we need to assume that the samplings for all subsystems must be synchronous, i.e., we need to assume that $T_{i}=T$ for all $i=1,\cdots,N$. Second, we extend our results from periodic sampling to aperiodic sampling.

In this paper, we investigate the consensus problem of second-order multiagent systems under directed graphs. Simple yet robust consensus algorithms that advance existing achievements in accounting for velocity and input constraints, agent uncertainties, and lack of neighboring velocity measurements are proposed. Furthermore, we show that the proposed method can be applied to the consensus control of uncertain robotic manipulators with velocity and control torque constraints. We rigorously prove that the velocity and control inputs stay within prespecified ranges by tuning design parameters a …
This brief addresses the distributed consensus problem of nonlinear multi-agent systems under a general directed communication topology. Each agent is governed by higher-order dynamics with mismatched uncertainties, multiple completely unknown high-frequency gains, and external disturbances. The main contribution of this brief is to present a new distributed consensus algorithm, enabling the control input of each agent to require minimal information from its neighboring agents, that is, only their output information. To this end, a dynamic system is explicitly constructed for each agent to gen…

The distributed optimal output consensus problem for high-order multi-agent systems has been studied recently. In this paper, we further focus on the same problem for high-order multi-agent systems subject to parametric uncertainties and aim at distributed robust controllers by measurement output feedback. We first develop a dynamic compensator to estimate the expected optimal consensus point and convert the problem into several decentralized robust tracking problems. Then, by combining the integral control technique and dirty derivative observer technique, we constructively propose a distribu…
Some of the issues associated with the practical applications of consensus of multi-agent systems (MAS) include switching topologies, attrition and inclusion of agents from an existing network, and model uncertainties of agents. In this paper, a single distributed dynamic state-feedback protocol referred to as the Robust Attrition-Inclusion Distributed Dynamic (RAIDD) consensus protocol, is synthesized for achieving the consensus of MAS with attrition and inclusion of linear time-invariant higher-order uncertain homogeneous agents and switching topologies. A state consensus problem termed as t…
In bipartite consensus tracking (BCT) tasks for nonlinear multiagent systems, stochastic disturbances and actuator faults are regarded as essential factors that hamper effective controller formulation and tracking precision improvement. To address these difficulties, we design an improved finitetime performance function (FTPF) for a fuzzy fault-tolerant distributed cooperative control scheme to achieve finite-time robust precision BCT tasks for nonlinear multiagent systems. The parameter selection range of the improved FTPF is relaxed, which renders systems to achieve better transient performa…

In this note, the problem of simultaneous leader-following consensus and parameter estimation is studied for a class of multi-agent systems subject to an uncertain leader system. The leader system is described by a sum of sinusoids with unknown amplitudes, frequencies and phases. A distributed adaptive observer is established for each agent to estimate the unknown frequencies of the leader. It is shown that if the signal of the leader is sufficiently rich, the estimation errors of the unknown frequencies converge to zero asymptotically for all the agents. Based on the designed distributed adap…
In this paper, we study the leader-following consensus problem of multiple Euler-Lagrange systems subject to an uncertain leader system. We first establish an adaptive distributed observer for a neutrally stable linear leader system whose system matrix is not known exactly. Under standard assumptions, this adaptive distributed observer can estimate and pass the leader's state to each follower through the communication network of the system without knowing the leader's system matrix exactly. Under the additional assumption that the leader's state is persistently exciting, this adaptive distribu…
This paper investigates the distributed optimal output consensus problem of second-order uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems over weight-unbalanced directed networks. Under the standard assumption that local cost functions are strongly convex with globally Lipschitz gradients, a novel distributed dynamic state feedback controller is developed such that the outputs of all the agents reach the optimal solution to minimize the global cost function which is the sum of all the local cost functions. The controller design is based on a two-layer strategy, where a distributed optimal coordinator a…
This paper investigates the distributed event-based consensus problem of switching networks satisfying the jointly connected condition. Both the state consensus of homogeneous linear networks and output consensus of heterogeneous networks are studied. Two kinds of event-based protocols based on local sampled information are designed, without the need to solve any matrix equation or inequality. Theoretical analysis indicates that the proposed event-based protocols guarantee the achievement of consensus and the exclusion of Zeno behaviors for jointly connected undirected switching graphs. These …
In this note, a novel observer-based output feedback control approach is proposed to address the distributed optimal output consensus problem of uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems in the normal form over unbalanced directed graphs. The main challenges of the concerned problem lie in unbalanced directed graphs and nonlinearities of multi-agent systems with their agent states not available for feedback control. Based on a two-layer controller structure, a distributed optimal coordinator is first designed to convert the considered problem into a reference-tracking problem. Then a decentraliz…
In this paper, we study the robustness of the event-triggered consensus algorithms against frequency-domain uncertainties. It is revealed that the sampling errors resulted by event triggering are essentially images of linear finite-gain $\mathcal{L}_2$-stable operators acting on the consensus errors of the sampled states and the event-triggered mechanism is equivalent to a negative feedback loop introduced additionally to the feedback system. In virtue of this, the robust consensus problem of the event-triggered network systems subject to additive dynamic uncertainties and network multiplicati…
This paper presents a framework for designing provably safe feedback controllers for sampled-data control affine systems with measurement and actuation uncertainties. Based on the interval Taylor model of nonlinear functions, a sampled-data control barrier function (CBF) condition is proposed which ensures the forward invariance of a safe set for sampled-data systems. Reachable set overapproximation and Lasserre's hierarchy of polynomial optimization are used for finding the margin term in the sampled-data CBF condition. Sufficient conditions for a safe controller in the presence of measuremen…
The ubiquitous interdependencies among higher-dimensional states of neighboring agents can be characterized by matrix-weighted networks. This paper examines event-triggered global consensus of matrix-weighted networks subject to actuator saturation. Specifically, a distributed dynamic event-triggered coordination strategy, whose design involves sampled state of agents, saturation constraint and auxiliary systems, is proposed for this category of generalized network to guarantee its global consensus. Under the proposed event-triggered coordination strategy, sufficient conditions are derived to …
The association of weights in a distributed consensus protocol quantify the trust that an agent has on its neighbors in a network. An important problem in such networked systems is the uncertainty in the estimation of trust between neighboring agents, coupled with the losses arising from mistakenly associating wrong amounts of trust with different neighboring agents. We introduce a probabilistic approach which uses the historical data collected in the network, to determine the level of trust between each agent. Specifically, using the finite history of the shared data between neighbors, we obt…
This paper investigates the consensus problem for nonlinear heterogeneous multi-agent systems with limited communication data rate. Each agent is modeled by a higher-order strict-feedback continuous-time system with unknown nonlinearities andexternal disturbance, and only the first state variable being measurable. Extended state observers (ESOs) are used to estimate the unmeasurable agent states and the unknown nonlinear dynamics. An ESO-based distributed output feedback protocol with dynamic encoding and decoding is then presented. It is shown that, for a connected undirected network, the pro…
The mitigation of distribution network (DN) unbalance and the use of single-phase flexibility for congestion mitigation requires accurate phase connection information, which is often not available. For a large DN, the naive phase identification proposed in the majority of the prior works using a single voltage reference does not scale well for a multi-feeder DN. We present a consensus algorithm-based phase identification mechanism which uses multiple three-phase reference points to improve the prediction of phases. Due to the absence of real measurements for a real-suburban German DN, the algo…

This paper considers the distributed robust suboptimal consensus control problem of linear multi-agent systems, with both H2 and H_infty performance requirements. A novel two-step complementary design approach is proposed. In the first step, a distributed control law is designed for the nominal multi-agent system to achieve consensus with a prescribed H2 performance. In the second step, an extra control input, depending on some carefully chosen residual signals indicating the modeling mismatch, is designed to complement the H2 performance by providing robustness guarantee in terms of H_infty r…
This paper is concerned with the quantized consensus problem for uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems under data-rate constraints and Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. The agents are modeled in strict-feedback form with unknown nonlinear dynamics and external disturbance. Extended state observers (ESOs) are leveraged to estimate agents' total uncertainties along with their states. To mitigate the effects of DoS attacks, a novel dynamic quantization with zooming-in and holding capabilities is proposed. The idea is to zoom-in and hold the variable to be quantized if the system is in the absenc…

This paper studies the leader-following consensuses of uncertain and nonlinear multi-agent systems against composite attacks (CAs), including Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and actuation attacks (AAs). A double-layer control framework is formulated, where a digital twin layer (TL) is added beside the traditional cyber-physical layer (CPL), inspired by the recent Digital Twin technology. Consequently, the resilient control task against CAs can be divided into two parts: One is distributed estimation against DoS attacks on the TL and the other is resilient decentralized tracking control against…
This paper addresses novel consensus problems in the presence of adversaries that can move within the network and induce faulty behaviors in the attacked agents. By adopting several mobile adversary models from the computer science literature, we develop protocols which can mitigate the influence of such malicious agents. The algorithms follow the class of mean subsequence reduced (MSR) algorithms, under which agents ignore the suspicious values received from neighbors during their state updates. Different from the static adversary models, even after the adversaries move away, the infected age…
