Let $(M, g)$ be an dimensional complete Riemannian manifold. In this paper we prove local Li-Yau type gradient estimates for all positive solutions to the following nonlinear parabolic equation \begin{equation*} (\partial_t - Δ_g + \mathcal{R}) u(x, t) = - a u(x, t) \log u(x, t)
\end{equation*} along the generalised geometric flow. Here $ \mathcal{R} = \mathcal{R} (x, t)$ is a smooth potential function and $a$ is a constant. As an application we derived a global estimate and a space-time Harnack inequality.
In this paper, we consider gradient estimates for two type of nonlinear parabolic equations under the Ricci flow: one is the equation $$u_t=Δu+au\log u+bu$$ with $a,b$ two real constants, the other is $$u_t=Δu+λu^α$$ with $λ,α$ two real constants. By a suitable scaling for the above two equations, we obtain Hamilton-Souplet-Zhang type gradient estimates.
In this paper, by maximum principle and cutoff function, we investigate gradient estimates for positive solutions to two nonlinear parabolic equations under Ricci flow. The related Harnack inequalities are deduced. An result about positive solutions on closed manifolds under Ricci flow is abtained. As applications, gradient estimates and Harnack inequalities for positive solutions to the heat equation under Ricci flow are derived. These results in the paper can be regard as generalizing the gradient estimates of Li-Yau, J. Y. Li, Hamilton and Li-Xu to the Ricci flow. Our results also improve t…
We investigate geometric properties of homogeneous parabolic geometries with generalized symmetries. We show that they can be reduced to a simpler geometric structures and interpret them explicitly. For specific types of parabolic geometries, we prove that the reductions correspond to known generalizations of symmetric spaces. In addition, we illustrate our results on an explicit example and provide a complete classification of possible non--trivial cases.
In this paper, we study the nonlinear parabolic equation with two exponents on complete noncompact Riemannian maniflods. The special types of such equation include the Fisher-KPP equation, the parabolic Allen-Cahn equation and the Newell-Whitehead equation. We get the Souplet-Zhang's gradeint estimates for the positive solutions to such equation. We also obtain the Liouville theorem for positive ancient solutions. Our results extend those of Souplet-Zhang (Bull. London. Math. Soc. 38:1045-1053, 2006) and Zhu (Acta Mathematica Scientia 36B(2): 514-526, 2016).
Let $(M^N, g, e^{-f}dv)$ be a complete smooth metric measure space with $\infty$-Bakry-Émery Ricci tensor bounded from below. We derive elliptic gradient estimates for positive solutions of a weighted nonlinear parabolic equation \begin{align*} \displaystyle \Big(Δ_f - \frac{\partial}{\partial t}\Big) u(x,t) +q(x,t)u^α(x,t) = 0, \end{align*} where $(x,t) \in M^N \times (-\infty, \infty)$ and $α$ is an arbitrary constant. As Applications we prove a Liouville-type theorem for positive ancient solutions and Harnack-type inequalities for positive bounded solutions.
We establish local elliptic and parabolic gradient estimates for positive smooth solutions to a nonlinear parabolic equation on a smooth metric measure space. As applications, we determine various conditions on the equation's coefficients and the growth of solutions that guarantee the nonexistence of nontrivial positive smooth solutions to many special cases of the nonlinear equation. In particular, we apply gradient estimates to discuss some Yamabe-type problems of complete Riemannian manifolds and smooth metric measure spaces.
Let $(N, g)$ be a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below. In this paper, we study the gradient estimates of positive solutions to a class of nonlinear elliptic equations $$Δu(x)+a(x)u(x)\log u(x)+b(x)u(x)=0$$ on $N$ where $a(x)$ is $C^{2}$-smooth while $b(x)$ is $C^{1}$ and its parabolic counterparts $$(Δ-\frac{\partial}{\partial t})u(x,t)+a(x,t)u(x,t)\log u(x,t) + b(x,t)u(x,t)=0$$ on $N\times[0, \infty)$ where $a(x,t)$ and $b(x,t)$ are $C^{2} $ with respect to $x\in N$ while are $C^{1}$ with respect to the time $t$. In contrast with lots of similar res…
We develop estimates for the solutions and derive existence and uniqueness results of various local boundary value problems for Dirac equations that improve all relevant results known in the literature. With these estimates at hand, we derive a general existence, uniqueness and regularity theorem for solutions of Dirac equations with such boundary conditions. We also apply these estimates to a new nonlinear elliptic-parabolic problem, the Dirac-harmonic heat flow on Riemannian spin manifolds. This problem is motivated by the supersymmetric nonlinear $σ$-model and combines a harmonic heat flow …
We shed a new light on the $L^1$-Liouville property for positive, superharmonic functions by providing many evidences that its validity relies on geometric conditions localized on large enough portions of the space. We also present examples in any dimension showing that the $L^1$-Liouville property is strictly weaker than the stochastic completeness of the manifold. The main tool in our investigations is represented by the potential theory of a manifold with boundary subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. The paper incorporates, under a unifying viewpoint, some old and new aspects of the th…
Let $(M^{n},g)$ be a complete Riemannian manifold. In this paper, we establish a space-time gradient estimates for positive solutions of nonlinear parabolic equations $$\partial_{t}u(x,t)=Δu(x,t)+a u(x,t)(\log u(x,t))^b + q(x,t)A(u(x,t)),$$ on geodesic balls $B(O,r)$ in $M$ with $0<r\leq r$ for $p>\frac{n}{2}$ when integral Ricci curvature $k(p,1)$ is small enough. By integrating the gradient estimates, we find the corresponding Harnack inequalities.
In this article we derive both Hamilton type and Souplet-Zhang type gradient estimations for a system of semilinear equations along a geometric flow on a weighted Riemannian manifold.
This article is devoted to the study of several estimations for a positive solution to a nonlinear weighted parabolic equation on a weighted Riemannian manifold. We therefore derive new Li-Yau type and Hamilton type gradient estimates yielding several consequences. We also derive Hessian estimate and some corollaries for the same equation. Among the applications of our estimates discussed here are Harnack type inequalities, Liouville type theorems and a local time reversed Harnack inequality.
Let $(M^{n},g,e^{-ϕ}dv)$ be a weighted Riemannian manifold evolving by geometric flow $\frac{\partial g}{\partial t}=2h(t),\,\,\,\frac{\partial ϕ}{\partial t}=Δϕ$. In this paper, we obtain a series of space-time gradient estimates for positive solutions of a parabolic partial equation $$(Δ_ϕ-\partial_{t})u(x,t)=q(x,t)u^{a+1}(x,t)+p(x,t)A(u(x,t))),\,\,\,\,(x,t)\in M\times[0,T]$$ on a weighted Riemannian manifold under geometric flow. By integrating the gradient estimates, we find the corresponding Harnack inequalities.
In this paper, we prove Souplet-Zhang type gradient estimates for a nonlinear parabolic equation on smooth metric measure spaces with the compact boundary under the Dirichlet boundary condition when the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor and the weighted mean curvature are both bounded below. As an application, we obtain a new Liouville type result for some space-time functions on such smooth metric measure spaces. These results generalize previous linear equations to a nonlinear case.
We study the action of a real reductive group $G$ on a real submanifold $X$ of a Kahler manifold $Z$. We suppose that the action of a compact connected Lie group $U$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{u}$ extends holomorphically to an action of the complexified group $U^{\mathbb C}$ and that the $U$-action on $Z$ is Hamiltonian. If $G\subset U^{\mathbb C}$ is compatible there exists a gradient map $μ_{\mathfrak p}:X \longrightarrow \mathfrak p$ where $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak k \oplus \mathfrak p$ is a Cartan decomposition of $\mathfrak g$. In this paper we describe compact orbits of parabolic subgroups…
The paper is mainly devoted to systematic developments and applications of geometric aspects of second-order variational analysis that are revolved around the concept of parabolic regularity of sets. This concept has been known in variational analysis for more than two decades while being largely underinvestigated. We discover here that parabolic regularity is the key to derive new calculus rules and computation formulas for major second-order generalized differential constructions of variational analysis in connection with some properties of sets that go back to classical differential geometr…
We construct explicit geometric models for moduli spaces of semi-stable strongly parabolic Higgs bundles over the Riemann sphere, in the case of rank two, four marked points, arbitrary degree, and arbitrary weights. The mechanism of construction relies on elementary geometric and combinatorial techniques, based on a detailed study of orbit stability of (in general non-reductive) bundle automorphism groups on certain carefully crafted spaces. The aforementioned techniques are not exclusive to the case we examine, and this work elucidates a general approach to construct arbitrary moduli spaces o…
I consider the geometry of the general class of scalar 2nd-order differential equations with parabolic symbol, including non-linear and non-evolutionary parabolic equations. After defining the appropriate $G$-structure to model parabolic equations, I apply Cartan techniques to determine local geometric invariants (quantities invariant up to a generalized change of variables). One family of invariants gives a geometric characterization for parabolic equation of Monge-Ampère type. A second family of invariants determines when a parabolic equation has a local choice of coordinates putting it in e…
In this article we study eternal solutions to the Allen-Cahn equation in the 3-sphere, in view of the connection between the gradient flow of the associated energy functional, and the mean curvature flow. We construct eternal integral Brakke flows that connect Clifford tori to equatorial spheres, and study a family of such flows, in particular their symmetry properties. Our approach is based on the realization of Brakke's motion by mean curvature as a singular limit of Allen-Cahn gradient flows, as studied by Ilmanen, and Tonegawa, and it uses the classification of ancient gradient flows in sp…
A notion of parabolic C-subsolutions is introduced for parabolic equations, extending the theory of C-subsolutions recently developed by B. Guan and more specifically G. Székelyhidi for elliptic equations. The resulting parabolic theory provides a convenient unified approach for the study of many geometric flows.
