The large number of $B_c$ mesons observed by LHCb suggests a sizable cross section for producing doubly-heavy baryons in the same experiment. Motivated by this, we estimate masses of the doubly-heavy $J=1/2$ baryons $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bb}$, and $Ξ_{bc}$, and their $J=3/2$ hyperfine partners, using a method which accurately predicts the masses of ground-state baryons with a single heavy quark. We obtain $M(Ξ_{cc}) = 3627 \pm 12$ MeV, $M(Ξ_{cc}^*)= 3690 \pm 12$ MeV, $M(Ξ_{bb}) = 10162 \pm 12$ MeV, $M(Ξ_{bb}^*)= 10184 \pm 12$ MeV, $M(Ξ_{bc}) = 6914 \pm 13$ MeV, $M(Ξ'_{bc}) = 6933 \pm 12$ MeV, and $M(Ξ_{bc}^*) = 6969 \pm 14$ MeV. As a byproduct, we estimate the hyperfine splitting between $B_c^*$ and $B_c$ mesons to be $68 \pm 8$ MeV. We discuss P-wave excitations, production mechanisms, decay modes, lifetimes, and prospects for detection of the doubly heavy baryons.
Mass spectra of heavy baryons are calculated in the heavy-quark--light-diquark picture in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model. The dynamics of light quarks in the diquark as well as the dynamics of the heavy quark and light diquark in the baryon are treated completely relativistically without application of nonrelativistic v/c and heavy quark 1/m_Q expansions. Such approach allows us to get predictions for the heavy baryon masses for rather high orbital and radial excitations. On this basis the Regge trajectories of heavy baryons for orbital and radial excitations are c…
The spectrum of the doubly heavy baryons is estimated with respect to the new observation from the LHCb collaboration [Aaij:2017ueg] by using the chiral partner structure and heavy quark spin-flavor symmetry. The effects of heavy quark flavor symmetry breaking and light quark flavor symmetry are considered. The mass splitting of doubly heavy baryons with the same spin but opposite parity arises from the generalized Goldberger-Treiman relation. The intermultiplet one-pion transition and intramultiplet radiative transitions are also be estimated.
The spectroscopy of the doubly heavy baryons including different heavy quarks is studied based on the heavy quark symmetry of QCD. We point out that, when the two heavy quarks are in $S$-wave, these baryons with a certain spin $j_l$ of the light cloud can be classified into two sets: a heavy quark singlet with total spin of $j=j_l$ and a heavy quark multiplet with $j= (j_l+1) , j_l ,\ldots \vert j_l-1\vert$, all the baryons in these two sets have the same mass and, the baryons with the same quantum numbers in these two sets do not mix with each other. We finally point out that the strong decay…
In the heavy quark limit, a doubly heavy baryon is regarded as composed of a heavy diquark and a light quark. We establish the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) equations for the heavy diquarks and the doubly heavy baryons, respectively, to leading order in a $1/m_{Q}$ expansion. The BS equations are solved numerically under the covariant instantaneous approximation with the kernels containing scalar confinement and one-gluon-exchange terms. The masses for the heavy diquarks and the doubly heavy baryons are obtained and the non-leptonic decay widths for the doubly heavy baryons emitting a pseudo-scalar meso…
Two topics are briefly reviewed in this talk: the decay of flavored hadrons or quarkonium states involving a baryon--antibaryon pair, and the spectroscopy of heavy baryons containing one, two or three heavy quarks. Some prospects for exotic heavy baryons are also discussed.
A pion mean-field approach allows one to investigate light and singly heavy baryons on an equal footing. In the large $N_c$ limit, the light and singly heavy baryons are viewed respectively as $N_c$ and $N_c-1$ valence quarks bound by the pion mean fields created self-consistently, since a heavy quark can be regarded as a static color source in the limit of the infinitely heavy quark mass. The transition magnetic moments of the baryon sextet are determined entirely by using the parameters fixed in the light-baryon sector without any additional parameters introduced. Assuming that the transitio…
In this talk, we briefly review a series of recent works on singly heavy baryons, based on a pion mean-field approach. In the limit of the infinitely heavy quark mass, heavy baryons are governed mainly by the light degress of freedom. Taking the number of colors to be infinity, a heavy baryon arises as a state consisting of $N_c-1$ valence quarks bound by the pion mean fields created self-consistently. Within this framework, we present the results of the mass spectra of the charmed and bottom baryons, and their magnetic moments. The behavior of the electromagnetic form factors will be also men…
We investigate the mass spectra of the lowest-lying singly heavy baryons, based on the self-consistent chiral quark-soliton model. We take into account the rotational $1/N_c$ and strange current quark mass ($m_{\mathrm{s}}$) corrections. Regarding $m_{\mathrm{s}}$ as a small perturbation, we expand the effective chiral action to the second order with respect to $m_{s}$. The mass spectra of heavy baryons are computed and compared with the experimental data. Fitting the classical masses of the heavy baryon to the center mass of each representation, we determine the masses of all the lowest-lying…
Compared with the charmed baryons, the bottom baryons are not very well known, either experimentally or theoretically. In this paper, we investigate the dipion strong decays of the P-wave and D-wave excited bottom baryons in the framework of the QPC model. We also extend the same analysis to the charmed baryons.
Baryons made of three heavy quarks become weakly coupled, when all the quarks are sufficiently heavy such that the typical momentum transfer is much larger than Lambda_QCD. We use variational method to estimate masses of the lowest-lying bcc, ccc, bbb and bbc states by assuming they are Coulomb bound states. Our predictions for these states are systematically lower than those made long ago by Bjorken.
To see whether heavy baryon and anti-baryon can form a bound state, the heavy baryonium, we study the interaction potential between them in terms of heavy baryon perturbation theory. The obtained potential is applied to calculate the heavy baryonium masses by solving Schrödinger equation. We find it is true that the heavy baryonium may exist in a reasonable choice of input parameters. The uncertainties remaining in the potential and their influences on the heavy baryonium mass spectrum are discussed.
We demonstrate in a model independent way that, in the combined heavy quark and large N_c limit, there exists a new contracted U(4) symmetry which connects orbitally excited heavy baryons to the ground states.
The magnetic dipole moments of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly heavy baryons are extracted in the framework of light-cone QCD sum rule. The electromagnetic properties of the doubly heavy baryons encodes important information of their internal structure. The results for the magnetic dipole moments of doubly heavy baryons acquired in this work are compared with the predictions of the other theoretical approaches.
Using the calculated values of the strong coupling constants of the heavy sextet spin-3/2 baryons to sextet and antitriplet heavy spin-1/2 baryons with light mesons within the light cone QCD sum rules method, and vector meson dominance assumption, the radiative decay widths are calculated. These widths are compared with the "direct" radiative decay widths predicted in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules.
In this talk, we give a short review of our recent works on studying the singly heavy baryon, doubly heavy baryon, and triply heavy baryon spectra from QCD sum rules.
We discuss the structure of current-induced bottom baryon to charm baryon transitions, and the structure of pion and photon transitions between heavy charm or bottom baryons in the Heavy Quark Symmetry limit as ${\scriptstyle m_Q\rightarrow \infty}$. Our discussion involves the ground state $s$-wave heavy baryons as well as the excited $p$-wave heavy baryon states.
This paper studies the leading chiral corrections to heavy quark-diquark symmetry predictions for doubly heavy baryon semileptonic decay form factors. We derive the coupling between heavy diquarks and weak current in the limit of heavy quark-diquark symmetry, and construct the chiral Lagrangian for doubly heavy baryons coupled to weak current. We evaluate chiral corrections to doubly heavy baryon zero-recoil semileptonic decay for both unquenched and partially quenched QCD. This theory is used to derive chiral extrapolation expressions for measurements of form factors of doubly heavy baryon ze…
A light baryon is viewed as $N_c$ valence quarks bound by meson mean fields in the large $N_c$ limit. In much the same way a singly heavy baryon is regarded as $N_c-1$ valence quarks bound by the same mean fields, which makes it possible to use the properties of light baryons to investigate those of the heavy baryons. A heavy quark being regarded as a static color source in the limit of the infinitely heavy quark mass, the magnetic moments of the heavy baryon are determined entirely by the chiral soliton consisting of a light-quark pair. The magnetic moments of the baryon sextet are obtained b…
Heavy quark spin symmetry is discussed in the context of single and doubly heavy baryons. A special attention is paid to the constraints/simplifications that this symmetry imposes on the non-relativistic constituent quark model wave functions and on the b->c semileptonic decays of these hadrons.
The SELEX Collaboration has reported a very large isospin splitting of doubly charmed baryons. We show that this effect would imply that the doubly charmed baryons are very compact. One intriguing possibility is that such baryons have a linear geometry Q-q-Q where the light quark q oscillates between the two heavy quarks Q, analogous to a linear molecule such as carbon dioxide. However, using conventional arguments, the size of a heavy-light hadron is expected to be around 0.5 fm, much larger than the size needed to explain the observed large isospin splitting. Assuming the distance between tw…
We show that the masses of the lowest-lying heavy baryons can be very well described in a pion mean-field approach. We consider a heavy baryon as a system consisting of the $N_c-1$ light quarks that induce the pion mean field, and a heavy quark as a static color source under the influence of this mean field. In this approach we derive a number of \textit{model-independent} relations and calculate the heavy baryon masses using those of the lowest-lying light baryons as input. The results are in remarkable agreement with the experimental data. In addition, the mass of the $Ω_b^*$ baryon is predi…
The heavy spin--3/2 baryon--heavy spin--1/2 baryon vertices with light vector mesons are studied within the light cone QCD sum rules method. These vertices are parametrized in terms of three coupling constants. These couplings are calculated for all possible transitions. It is shown that correlation functions for these transitions are described by only one invariant function for every Lorenz structure. The obtained relations between the correlation functions of the different transitions are structure independent while explicit expressions of invariant functions depend on the Lorenz structure.
The 1/m corrections to heavy baryon masses are calculated from the QCD sum rules within the framework of the heavy quark effective theory. Numerical results for the heavy baryons are obtained. The implications of the results are discussed.
We investigate the antitriplet and sextet heavy baryon systems with $J^P= \frac{1}{2}^+, \frac{3}{2}^+$ in the framework of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We first calculate the chiral corrections to the heavy baryon mass from the SU(3) flavor breaking effect up to $O(p^3)$. Then we extend the same formalism to calculate the chiral corrections to the axial charges of the heavy baryons in the isospin symmetry limit.
We study the hyperfine mass differences of heavy hadrons in the heavy quark effect theory (HQET). The effects of one-gluon exchange interaction are considered for the heavy mesons and baryons. Base on the known experimental data, we predict the masses of some heavy baryons in a model-independent way.
In the heavy quark limit a heavy baryon which contains two heavy quarks is believed to be composed of a heavy diquark and a light quark. Based on this picture, we evaluate the weak semileptonic decay rates of such baryons. The transition form factors between two heavy baryons are associated with those between two heavy mesons by applying the superflavor symmetry. The effective vertices of the W-boson and two heavy diquarks are obtained in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Numerical predictions on these semileptonic decay widths are presented and they will be tested in the future experiment…
The theoretical analysis of production, lifetime, and decays of doubly heavy baryons is presented. The lifetime of $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ baryon recently measured by the LHCb Collaboration is used to estimate the lifetimes of other doubly heavy baryons. The production and the possibility of observation of $Ξ_{bc}$ baryon at LHC are discussed.
In this article, we study the ${3\over 2}^+$ heavy and doubly heavy baryon states $Ξ^*_{cc}$, $Ω^*_{cc}$, $Ξ^*_{bb}$, $Ω^*_{bb}$, $Σ_c^*$, $Ξ_c^*$, $Ω_c^*$, $Σ_b^*$, $Ξ_b^*$ and $Ω_b^*$ by subtracting the contributions from the corresponding ${3\over 2}^-$ heavy and doubly heavy baryon states with the QCD sum rules, and make reasonable predictions for their masses.
Starting from the semirelativistic Hamiltonian for a doubly heavy baryon system ($QQq$) with Coulomb and linear confining scalar potentials, and operating the naive Foldy-Wouthuysen-Tani transformation on two heavy quarks, I construct a formulation how to calculate mass spectra and wave functions of doubly heavy baryons. Based on our formulation, their masses and wave functions are expanded in $1/m_Q$ with a heavy quark mass $m_Q$ and the $λ$ mode lowest-order equation is examined carefully to obtain a complete set of eigenfunctions. I claim that the $ρ$ mode wave function should be given by o…
We analytically calculate the total and differential cross sections for the pair production of doubly heavy baryons in the framework of diquark model. The processes of electron-positron and quark-antiquark annihilations are considered. The fractions of doubly heavy baryons in the yields of heavy quarks are evaluated numerically.
L=1 excited heavy baryon masses are analyzed by heavy quark and large N_c expansions. In heavy quark limit, mass is parameterized by Λ-bar and it is expanded further by spin-flavor breaking operators to the zeroth order of 1/N_c. Expanding coefficients will be fixed by more data on the excited baryons in the near future.
The combined large N_c and heavy quark limit for baryons containing a single heavy quark is discussed. The combined large N_c and heavy quark expansion of the heavy quark bilinear operators is obtained. In the combined expansion the corrections proportional to m_N/m_Q are summed to all orders. In particular, the combined expansion can be used to determine semileptonic form factors of heavy baryons in the combined limit.
The relativistic six-quark equations are found in the framework of the dispersion relation technique. The charmed baryonia $B\bar B$ are constructed without the mixing of the quarks and antiquarks. The relativistic six-quark amplitudes of the heavy baryonia are calculated. The poles of these amplitudes determine the masses of baryonia. 8 masses of charmed baryonia are predicted.
Charm and bottom baryons and mesons are studied within the framework of a relativistically covariant 3D reduction of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We carry out an analysis of semileptonic decays of heavy hadrons within this framework using explicit oscillator-type wave functions where we calculate Isgur-Wise functions, decay rates and asymmetry parameters. Within this model we also study the effect of interactions between the light quarks inside the heavy baryon and how they affect the values of the computed heavy baryon observables. We also elaborate on the role of relativistic effects in the …
We discuss the model predictions for antibaryon/baryon production ratios in high energy heavy ion collisions. The role of string junction mechanism of baryon number transfer seems to be very important here and we consider some quantitative results.
Using a geometric model for the study of the structure of hadrons, we study baryons having one, two and three heavy quarks. The study reveals diquark structure in baryons with one and two heavy quarks but not with three heavy identical quarks.
Model independent sum rules are applied to recent measurements of heavy c-baryon and d-baryon masses. The sum rules are generally satisfied to the same degree as for the light (u,d,s) baryons.
This paper reviews the experimental status of heavy baryons. It covers the aspec ts of production, spectroscopy and decay presenting recent results obtained in this fi eld. It closes with an outlook on further work on and with heavy baryons and their po ssible role for other measurements.
We study the semileptonic decays of the lowest lying double heavy baryons using the relativistic three-quark model. We do not employ a heavy quark mass expansion but keep the masses of the heavy quarks and baryons finite. We calculate all relevant form factors and decay rates.
In this article, we study the ${1\over 2}^+$ doubly heavy baryon states $Ω_{QQ}$ and $Ξ_{QQ}$ by subtracting the contributions from the corresponding ${1\over 2}^-$ doubly heavy baryon states with the QCD sum rules, and make reasonable predictions for their masses. Those doubly heavy baryon states maybe observed at the Tevatron, the LHCb and the PANDA.
Transition decay widths by one-pion emissions for excited heavy-baryons with a single heavy (charm and bottom) quark are investigated by following the heavy-quark symmetry and its breaking effects at ${\cal O}(1/M)$ for a heavy-baryon mass $M$. Based on the heavy-baryon effective theory, interaction Lagrangian for the heavy baryons with axial-vector current induced by a pion is constructed. It is presented that the transition decay widths up to ${\cal O}(1/M)$ in several channels are constrained. The results will be useful in experimental study of excited heavy-baryons.
Using the chiral soliton model and heavy quark symmetry we study baryons containing two heavy quarks. If there exists a stable (under strong interactions) meson consisting of two heavy quarks and two light ones, then we find that there always exists a state of this meson bound to a chiral soliton and to a chiral anti-soliton, corresponding to a two heavy quark baryon and a baryon containing two heavy anti-quarks and five light quarks, or a ``heptaquark".
We review the experimental and theoretical status of baryons containing one heavy quark. The charm and bottom baryon states are classified and their mass spectra are listed. The appropriate theoretical framework for the description of heavy baryons is the Heavy Quark Effective Theory, whose general ideas and methods are introduced and illustrated in specific examples. We present simple covariant expressions for the spin wave functions of heavy baryons including p--wave baryons. The covariant spin wave functions are used to determine the Heavy Quark Symmetry structure of flavour--changing curre…
The couplings and interactions of baryons containing a heavy quark are related by light quark spin-flavor symmetry in the large $N$ limit. The single pion coupling constant which determines all heavy quark baryon-pion couplings is equal to the pion coupling constant for light quark baryons. Light quark symmetry relations amongst the baryon couplings are violated at order $1/N^2$. Heavy quark spin-flavor symmetry is used in conjunction with large $N$ light quark spin-flavor symmetry to determine the couplings of the degenerate doublets of heavy quark baryons.
Masses of heavy baryons are calculated in the relativistic quark-diquark picture. Obtained results are in good agreement with available experimental data including recent measurements by the LHCb Collaboration. Possible quantum numbers of excited heavy baryon states are discussed.
The mass spectra of doubly heavy baryons are systematically calculated in the framework of QCD sum rules. With a tentative heavy-diquark--light-quark configuration, the interpolating currents representing the doubly heavy baryons are proposed. Contributions of the operators up to dimension six are included in operator product expansion. The numerical results are compatible with other theoretical predictions, which may support the $(QQ)-(q)$ structure of doubly heavy baryons.
I discuss several recent highly accurate theoretical predictions for masses of baryons containing the b quark, as well as an effective supersymmetry between heavy quark baryons and mesons. I also suggest some possibilities for observing exotic hadrons containing heavy quarks.
We argue that in the large N_c HQET, the masses of the s-wave low-spin heavy baryons equal to the heavy quark mass plus proton mass approximately. To the subleading order, the heavy baryon mass 1/N_c expansion not only has the same form, but also has the same coefficients as that of the light baryon. Based on this, numerical analysis is made.
The magnetic moments of ground state single, double and triple heavy baryons containing charm or bottom quarks are calculated in a relativistic three-quark model, which, in the heavy quark limit, is consistent with Heavy Quark Effective Theory and Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The internal quark structure of baryons is modeled by baryonic three-quark currents with a spin-flavor structure patterned according to standard covariant baryonic wave functions and currents used in QCD sum rule calculations.
We study the semileptonic decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. We present complete results on transition form factors between double-heavy baryons for finite values of the heavy quark/baryon masses and in the heavy quark symmetry limit which is valid at and close to zero recoil. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit.
The triply heavy flavour baryons are studied using the Quark-diquark description of the three-body system. The confinement potential for present study of triply heavy flavour baryons is assumed as coulomb plus power potential with power index $ν$. We have solved Schrodinger equation numerically to calculate the masses of triply heavy flavour baryons. The masses and magnetic moments of triply heavy flavour baryons are computed for different power indices, $ν$, starting from 0.4 to 1.0. The predicted masses and magnetic moments are in good agreement with other theoretical predictions.
In the framework of the path integral approach we develop the velocity component formalism for spin-1/2 and -3/2 baryons coupled with pseudoscalar mesons in the limit of heavy baryons. Starting from the most general chiral meson-baryon lagrangian including the invariance of spin-3/2 fields under point transformation we detail various problems in integrating out the heavy velocity components in the baryon fields and derive the effective lagrangian for the light components up to O(1/M_{baryon}).
We construct the B.S. equation for baryons. The most general form of the B.S. wave function is given. In the heavy quark limit we show clearly that the spin symmetry exists in heavy baryon states.
